Ok so this is my first post here, so if I drop a clanger, please bear with me.
I've got an HTC Wizard (T Mobile Vario etc) but there is something I'm really missing.
Does anyone know of anybody that makes & sells a wired hands free kit with a built in FM Tuner? I would have preferred a built in FM radio in the phone (yes I know, I should have got an Atom), but I didnt & now I have to live with it.
I know Nokia & Sony Ericsson do external tuners for their phones. It should be easy with an Wizard because the only connections are via jack sockets.
I have turned EBay upside down looking for this type of thing, but all I can find are cheap looking plasticy things from China that run on watch batteries! I was looking for something a bit more up market.
I'm sure I can't be the only person in the world that
wants an FM radio bolt on for their Wizard!?
Or am I???????????????????????????????????????
you can get a fm radio sdio card which would add fm radio to all pda's with a sdio slot
the Wizard uses MiniSD, and as such won't work with any SD I/O cards. Afaik, you can't get an SD I/O > MiniSD converter either?
This is not good news. I too have seen the SDIO cards. I think all they do is bleed power from the device, rateher than being truely integrated. But never seen a mini SD devive
Anyone seen anything combined into a headset?????
Plenty of radios that are basically stuck on a plug and two earbuds;
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002EQXFK.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
But I don't know if they work together with the Wizard for e.g. voice commands (which I personally don't use, so doesn't matter to me)
Yes I am aware of the type of radio that you mention. As I said in my original post "I know Nokia & Sony Ericsson do external tuners for their phones". Problem is they dont have the correct plug to use with a wizard (ie 4 conector, 2.5mm jack plug) which is what you need to listen to MP3 music (for example) then maybe switch to a phone call & then listen to the radio all using the same headset. The Motorola one is close, but the pins on the jack plug are not correct Something like this would be great, ie a headset (with microphone) + a radio. Am I asking for too much?????

I guess you are
Could take some cutters and a soldering iron and work some magic with that :>
Hi, have a look on the following link, it is the one i am using.
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=111492
N I C E !
It almost fits the bill. If only it could use the bluetooth connection to use the MP3 player on your phone (in stereo of course). I think I need one of these N*k*a (sorry I nearly swore) & A2DP. Assuming the T Mobile ROM ever turns up will A2DP work on a wizard?
Why is it that the BIG 3 phone companies look after their phones with good accessories? Come on HTC, your phones are great, but they need to branch out & support the phone range with some add on goodies.

You're right about that. I had an SDIO WiFi card for my magician. Whereas the battery would normally last a few days, it would be dead within an hour with the WiFi card in.
Hello any news on this yet?
Hi,
I have been searching around for something like this too. Unfortunately no luck.
Any of you guys find something interesting?
rohseq
Sadly not. I too am still searching the internet for something, but so far nothing that matches the criteria has popped up. Its becoming more & more annoying :x Every time I see something its a specific product for one of the big phone manufacturers. Clearly they put a value on selling accessories (presumably for a good profit) to enhance their phones, whereas most Windows powered phone owners are left to fend for themselves with stuff off fleabay.
Makes me wonder if its worth going down this route again So far I have had an original SPV, E200, C500, C550 & now a Vario (Wizard). Next time around I might go back to the big "N" & enjoy the benefits of buying something from a fully supported product range.
Saw this on another site, looks good. Might just splash out for this.

Hi!
Have you tried it out yet? I sow some people complaining about software compatibility, that it only let you control Windows Media Player. Does anybody know if this remote let you control the HTC AudioManger application, as this is a much better MP3 player than the old WMP.
Regards,
PK
Dear,
I just take it from this web, and I found It's can used with 2 program
1 is WMP and the other is HTC Audio Manager(but you need install drive that come with package). It's very good smalltalk and remote control but I used p800w It's can't used HTC Audio booster, that made me sad because I like Bass Boost.
Have Any one have Base Boost that can used and work with p800w?
Thanks a lot.

Hi, it sort of works. When I got the package, there was a sticker over the supported models - the O2 Xda Orbit was "not" supported. As I had changed the ROM to the HTC generic version, I loaded the drivers and plugged it in. The adapter works, and I can use normal headphones BUT none of the buttons on the remote function with the O2 XDA
The Artemis and the XDA may just be that little bit different (more than just the case) which may be why they put a sticker over the supported models info. By the way, it was sold as an Artemis accessory and not an O2 XDA accessory, so I cant really send it back.
Therefore, if anyone in the UK has an Artemis (not an O2 XDA) and wants the adapter, they can buy it off me for £15 plus postage. It is brand new, used once, in its original box with driver disk. If you want to pay by PayPal, it's £2 extra to cover the fees, otherwise NOCHEX or direct bank transfer.

no, they are the same phone, hardware wise. I have the remote and a O2 XDA Orbit and it works. You just need to install the HTC Audo Driver update for the P3300. Otherwise, the remote won't work when the phone switches off to save power. This stupid bug affects all apps, including in the middle of a phone conversation. I think that is mainly the reason for the audio driver update. I don't have the HTC Audio Manager, anyone know how I can get hold of it?
The remote works with WMP. It also works with the FM Radio app, pressing play mutes it (rather than the mute button on the side), volume control (not the main phone volume) works, FF/FR switches between preset stations.
The green/red phone buttons works even when running other apps like TomTom or TCPMP. But non of the other soft buttons can be mapped to functions in TCPMP or any other program for that matter as they don't exist like your average hardware buttons on the phone itself. So as a result, you can't assign a button to activate Voice Dial or Voice Command.
The other problem is more to do with the new ExtMiniUSB port. I cannot charge the phone while I listen to the radio or mp3s for that matter! Compare to older generations of HTC phones which has a mini usb + separate 2.5mm headphone socket, this is quite stupid as I believe many ppl charge their phone via USB at work and also listen to the mp3s.
Ok, i was wondering why HTC was giving such strange answers about the useless power consumption.
HTC > (there will be no update to solve this, because it is not knowing issue.)???
Its strange behavior in my opinion when the phone wakes up completely after touching one of the buttons and never goes to sleep again. Not even switches the screen off. It uses more energy that way.
I’ve made a application for this problem just to switch the screen completely off after using the buttons on the remote. It runs in the background and waits for a change in the SystemPowerState. When the backlight dims it will switch of the screen after 1 second.
I can’t prevent the device from waking up but this works good enough.
Next step is to hook in to the remote interface driver and make the buttons act like normal devicebuttons so it would be possible to use another MP3 player. But I ‘m afraid my knowledge about this is not enough. Maybe someone can help me with that.

Oh well, sorry to hear that didn't help. I received my remote on the 17th, noticed it didn't work too well even after installing the driver that came with the remote. Then found the news that Audio Driver Update was release on the 16th so I got the download and it worked from then on.
it tries to you works in stereo
Works fine
I'm been using the rc for 2 weeks now and one must say it's working exactly the way I expected it to. The only lil hitch is the missing "stand-by" so you waste some amount of battery.
Maybe it's possible to check with a small service whether Audio Manager is running in playback mode and react e.g. with turning of background lights.
I'll give it a try next week in office (need my VS).
Anybody with experience?
wold you recommend one then?

For me it's working without drivers with HTC Audiomanager, WMP and with the FM radio and it's fine to use my own headphones.
HTC's stupid headphone/power socket combo & ultimatum
Dear HTC,
Please, if your are not the appropriate person to be considering my email, pass it on to someone who can adequately able to address my concerns.
Briefly, I am a huge fan of HTC handsets, having been a the proud owner of no less than 5 different models in the last 3 years.
My particular issue is with the HTC TYTN and TYTN II (or Kaiser) models. I am far from alone in this concern, as a simple Google search will reveal, so I am not going to waste time justifying myself. I'll launch immediately into the criticism and the request for an explanation, etc...
2 years ago, my first TYTN had to be replaced after 3 months because the ill-conceived combo-headphone-power mini USB socket became faulty. After 13 months it became faulty again. Since it was out of guarantee, i had to repair it myself. A month later however, when the socket once again broke, I installed a separate headphone socket in the side of the case myself, it was easy... TOO easy...
Since then my original TYTN has been fine.
A few weeks ago, I purchased the new TYTN II or Kaiser. I knew beforehand that the headphone and power sockets were once again the same. However, I assumed that they would have been strengthened due to the bad pres the previous model had received over this issue.
I was sadly mistaken. Within 3 weeks I have had to replace my TYTN II after the headphones started crackling when I moved the headphone cable. After examination, the mini-USB socket is IDENTICAL to the original TYTN,and bending in the same way. I have now stopped recommending this phone to people due to this. Either you don't intent users of this handset to use headphones, or you dont care that the socket isn't up to the job!
Considering that I influence thousands of people through my website in their choice of hanset upgrades, I am sure that HTC will feel the financial blow of my decision, at least slightly.
My questions are as follows:
1.) Why, after all the bad press the initial single connector design got, did HTC decide to do exactly the same stupid thing with the Kaiser (TYTN II)?
2.) Are you prepared to issue me, free of charge, with a a
brand new model, with a SEPARATE headphone socket, for which I will write an article in the magazine I work for singing your praises and recommending your improved Kaiser II, with the separate stereo headphone socket?
I formally give you 7 days to reply to my satisfaction, considering I have spent nearly £1000 with you. Failing to do so will result in a loss of revenue to yourselves totaling at least many hundreds of thousands of dollars/pounds.
Sincerely
Lawrence Bowen
Those with the remote who want to save power when using it as an mp3 player, use MortSaver. basicall you can set it to turn screen off after a predetimend time. Therfore every time you use your remote, it normally turns on the sreen, and never turns off wasting battery whlle its sitting in your pocket.
Mort saver turns if off again after each use of the remote, so you can leave it in your pocket with the knowledge you are not draining you battery.
now Ill I need is some equalizer I can use with Mediaplayer!

Hello everyone, I am thinking of getting a bluetooth gps reciever. I only want it for emergencys when im snowboarding, give me a latitude and longitude so i wouldnt really need any maps. And I woudl just keep the unit in my pocket and off until i had to use it.
Has anyone used any of these devices with the htcs620 if so please let me know wich model, software and your experience.
Thanks.
I currently own the Holux M1200 that I bought online for about 70 dollars. It is very small and durable, about the size of a usb flash drive. It even has a very solid loop that could be used to tie the unit to your jacket or keychain.
The device came with a very small piece of software that gives you your long/lat. It also came with smart2go, though I couldn't get the application to install via the dvd and had to download it from their website.
You can read more about the product here.
Rebuttle
Thanks, great info i've found the Holux GPSlim 240 looks like the next version a bit slimmer for $70.00 seems worth it.
Can live search be used with it ?
Can you use bluetooth headset and have the gps connected to the phone at the same time ?
I chose the M1200 b/c it can connect to 32 satellites vs. 20 satellites with the slim 240

I had never used the mini gps program until today and I'd like to add that it does NOT work on smartphones.
Geeks.com have a bunch all about $40-$50. (The one I got was cheaper still but they don't have it any more!) They are all based on a very few chipsets, so don't worry about going with a no name brand. The key is really finding software that does what you want. If you just want to check your position then there's a few packages knocking about that will read the datastream. I don't have it with me but there was one I found that gave you all the details - VITO I think. I wouldn't use Live/G Maps though except if you stop and check. If you have them running continuous you will have an active datastream and bluetooth datastream running at the same time which is a large power drain. That's fine in a car with a charger, but with no access to power.....

I have been reading about this car stereo since CES and cant wait to purchase it. Though I can't find any information on whether the Galaxy Nexus will be compatible with the app. It was announced that the SGIII would receive it but has anyone heard about the G Nex getting it? Double din comes out later this year.

I considered that one before the Sony one was announced. I like that I would possibly be able to control Rdio on a large screen and it connect to my steering wheel controls (with an added accessory) and not have to fumble with my phone. Plus the option of my passengers being able to watch DVD's and Netflix is pretty cool.
Ya that would be nice for em. As far as the release and the features of the double din I'm not positive but its in the works. I work at a car audio shop and we had a webinar with them and said it was gonna be bahdass. Also the pioneer aporadio 2 has HDMI output and has optional MHL cable for android
... also it would be sick if it were possible to root and develop a custom from for a radio. Seems interesting not sure if source would be available though lol. I know they had updates on there sight but don't remember seeing code. They gotta give us something though
Sent from my Maguro
Ah yeah it would be amazing to have a custom rom on a car stereo.
I just need a stereo that I can control Rdio and a few other music apps from so I can get over not needing/wanting the pogo car dock...
Not sure about the Sony you are talking about since the company I work for doesn't carry it but anything with Bluetooth a2dp is the way to go as far as android goes the USB interface sucks for android devices reads ringtones and pretty much every audio file there is as well as shows every folder you have. Not to mention I can't connect to a single deck through USB because of mtp . So yeah. I would highly recconend actually testing the head unit you are interested in and make sure it works the way you want it to because car audio is pretty depressing when it comes to android compatability

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up. I will wait for a local car audio store here in Houston to have one on display first.

Awesome, Houston here too. I have been looking for more info on Mirrorlink as well. I started this thread trying to gather some, but not much headway has been made. I cancelled my EVO 4G LTE because it was not advertised with Mirrorlink compatibility. Waiting for Sprint to get the SIII next month hopefully.

I am very interested in this myself and since Nokia is the most supported brand I am hoping that we will see some Windows Phone compatibility in the near future. I did think it was pretty funny that all the phones supported except one were Symbian though, I thought Symbian was on the outs.
FYI the XAV-601BT is out now.
But nobody reviewed that device yet
Has anyone tried pairing a mirrorlink enabled phone to the head unit and test it out? Im planning to buy this head unit in the next quarter so i'd like some advices.

HI, just as an alternative, i bought the Alpine ICS X8 with mirror link, as yet it doesnt support my galaxy s3...
The Sony XAV-601BT just received a firmware update (get it at the Sony support site) that adds support for the Galaxy S3. I can't tell you much about it as I have the Nexus. Hopefully some ROM devs start to incorporate MirrorLink into their OS builds. From what I read in another thread, it isn't as easy as just getting the APK from the S3.
Hi,
I have already purchased the newer xtrons android 6 with 2gig mem and newer proces one!!
the reason that I have purchased the newer xtrons hu again is very simpl;
xtrons said to me (via email) that I could send / I may return the old android 5.1 one back and I got what I paid for back, so that was a super super cheapst deal, no other company wanting to do that yet because mine xrtons hu is or was over 4 months old!!!,
so I had to pay only +/- 100 euro for everything.. that's incl. sending the old hu one and receiving (shipping) of the newer xtrons hu one plus 60 euro for the more expensive of the newer xtrons android 6 one, so the totally payment is 100 euros = super super cheapst deal ofcourse !!
Why do I have chosen an xtrons hu again?
1- the offer was "extremly cheap" and it's cost me almost nothings for what I gonna get back: a super brand newer hu one with the most newer components likes newer proces and newer and more ram and more rom onboard and with the most newer software for only 60 euro more.. come on mate is that not a very very very cheap deal or not!?!
2- xtrons is the only hu which it fits 100% without any problems into my Audi!
3- the price + quality + options like dvd player + canbus of the xtrons hu is very very good to mention compare with other companies!
4- The support has become much better after having sent enough emails and explained!
5- the only small issue I have had with the old xtrons hu one was the one way canbus radio station info on my car lcd, the canbus it is not decent made in terms of software and options but not hardware from the company who sold it to xtrons, it is a one click system one and that was it, so the reprograming of the swc button is not possible because it's a cheap made driver was the problem, so all of those emails was for that reason, but nothing else!
6- I found it a very nice look and especially very good working hu for or with my Audi car.. and that is very important!
7- for this very good price + quality + options there is no compatition at the moment for xtrons so that's why I purchased again.
Do I working for xtrons company? huhuhu .. absolutely not, otherwise I don't need to pay 400 euro for buying it.. right !?!
I just wanted to share this cheapst deal ever with you guys

Hi,
(((excuse me)))
I have not previously responded to your "review" between these 2 hu because I felt it unfair to compare them both like the way you already did.. is not an honestly comparing -and maybe you knew it?- mate!!
Prove it.. you gonna or I hear you say.. right?
Ok here we go..
How it is possible in the Xtrons name that you compare both hu while you did not even have updated your old 5.1 hu at all?
Your 5.1 hu with an very old fw and mcu version while the newer 6.1 hu one is with the most newer fw and mcu come? now is that comparing you called fair
I don't know why you did it that? But maybe.. I may have my own thought of kind of conspiracy but I will keep it for myself and I don't tell it ofcourse
If you are really wanted to comparing both of them honestly then you should first of all update your old hu one first and then compare it with the newer one.. right?

Hi,
The big boy is already arrived, am extremely happy with it, compared with the old 5.1 one the difference is between heaven and earth, really is worth every penny I payed for.. literally every penny is worth it, what a nice and decent device and the new ui is wow..
The new firmware is much better then the old one (but it have some childhood disease) so it needs some improvement, Radio + BT.. lost them saved or connection things, is not a big deal but still needs a better firmware, ofcouse for a brand new hu schould men give it some times!
Its fast and clean and ofcourse a beautiful car head unit.
As I already said, i'm extremly happy with the new xtrons hu one, especially with such an cheapest deal ever: + €60 !
Unfortunately, it comes with the same -old- canbus so no newer firmware update!
Ps: indeed, the Radio sound and receive is much better now compared with the old one = new chips!?!

Especially since you bought it only -1M- ago within the exchange warranty period.. so just keep hammering mate.. If he/she a real good dealer -?- is, he/she gonna exchange it for you just like the very kind lady from xtrons did it / arrange it for me!!
I speak via email with a wonderful and really lovely lady and she is the one who's making this -super- deal happens, I really "love" that lovely (N) lady.. very kind lady from xtrons company!!
I don't have permission from her to mention her name (N) in the forum!
Ps: say to the shop where you bought from (or Ebay) I will pay the difference of the newer one ofcourse!
I wish you many success mate :fingers-crossed:
Edit:
Otherwise, just ask your money back and then you can buy the newer one!
Again it is your right within the one month period!

Hey @Madyen, I was wondering if you could post the .APK for the Vehicle Information app that includes data on fuel use and tire pressure from your new Xtrons PX5 headunit. I would like to test the new app on my older MTCD RK3188 headunit. You can extract the apk with "App Backup Restore - Transfer" from the google play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.appbackup&hl=en
Thank you!

Try using "ES File Explorer" to extract the Vehicle.apk. It is a system app so you may have to search for it under system apps in ES File Explorer. Here is a guide how to: http://thetechgears.com/backup-android-apps-apk-files-using-es-file-explorer/
Thanks!

Hi Marchnz,
I can't pull my hu out to take some internal pictures.. for the following reason:
1- no one especially a clever guy will avoid his head unit warranty by broken the warranty seal, especially for a brand new hu, to take some pictures!
2- is pain in the a.. to pull the hu out an Audi A4 car because the quadlock cables harness they are exactly behind the antenne of the hu, xtrons should put the antenna on the right site!
so man need to pull this quadlock cables harness as far as possible down and as fast as possible pushing / putting the hu in the dash because the quadlock cables harness come quickly back.. like a spring, spring back!
I hope you understanding my honesty reason.
Success :good:

Are you happy with your purchase so far?
Is the octa core faster? or feel smoother than de quad core?
What about the heat? I see the hu has an active cooling system, gotta keep it clean though, and as u said it may be tough to pull off the hu.
