There are different version of the galaxy s2 I wrote a thorough detailed post on that in this QA section if you search my past posts.
Basically the att S2 is actually a different phone with incompatible CPU, GPU and chipset. Att S2 Roms will NOT work on tmo S2.
T989D is different but not by much don't just flash a skyrocket ROM that had not been modified and listed under the T989 development thread.
If you Google Samsung Galaxy S2 models there is a whole wiki page on the many different versions where they where released and some of the differences.
WARNING IF YOU FLASH ATT S2 ROM TO TMOBILE S2 YOU WILL BRICK (KILL) YOUR PHONE DON'T TRY IT.
ALWAYS RUN NANDROID BACKUPS ALWAYS

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the AT&T (i727) is a different phone yes, but with that being said is rather almost identical in build, all that would really need to be swapped is the drivers, or kernel in this sense..
Also, the SGH-T989 and T989D are actually IDENTICAL devices, with only differences being simply
The carrier information (information in build.prop, CSC folder, CSCFiles.xml, SW_Configuration.xml, CSC_version.xml, carrier bloat, carrier apks, and libs, such as wifi calling for T-Mobile, etc. To say they are "different" persay is a little misleading.. if you wrote a topic regarding these, why didn't you research your data?
Also, its better to post your sources when providing information that is obviously going to be cross checked.
Here ye go:
link to wiki on galaxy family
The galaxy s2 has an awesome boot method where the devices system actually boots similarly to a BIOS on pc, which then loads a kernel, in this stage the phone is actually running debug mode, meaning, unless you flash the rom and forget to flash our kernel and instead flash a i9100 or something n00bish, the galaxy s2x is rather hard to brick, its so easy n00bs can do it (look through the forum..)
If the device does get bricked for whatever reason, wtf is a nandroid gonna do?
Your posts so far have been rather missleading...

Forgive me if this is a ridiculous question. I have been rooting/modding since I got my first Android but I have always had the same carrier. So can someone explain what would happen if we flashed a ROM from the Samsung galaxy s 2 forum on to an eg4t? Is it just hardware differences that keep things like that from being possible or is there some other reason.

Very bad things. There have been reports of people not even being able to get their phones into download mode to ODIN stock .tars (a true brick).
Just don't do it to be safe.

Flashing ROMs from the International SGS2 or a another variant won't work. It's due to a number of reasons but long story short, safe yourself the trouble and don't even try. I doubt you would permanently brick you device (I read the comment above me and looks like there is a chance of BRICKING your device)..
Our Epic Touches have different radios (CDMA vs. GSM), WiMax, etc. so the kernel, ROMs and modems are different..

U.S. Cellular Samsung Galaxy S2

I was just wondering if I am able to root and install a custom rom from this forum. I was told on the SGS2 forum that this forum would be best. Is it true?
Thanks in advance

Short answer - probably not easily if at all.
Even if there are not any technical differences between the devices - which I do not know enough on the US Cellular GS2 to say - it is often difficult to do what you want. I saw this with my previous device, the LG Optimus S (Globally Optimus One).
Now in some cases I have seen devs be able to take a build for one phone and easily port it over to a similar phone (ex. Optimus S/V/C) versus having to start from scratch. It will depend on how much HW/SW differences exist between the two devices.
Hope that helps!

DO NOT FLASH OUR RADIOS. DO NOT FLASH ROM/KERNEL unless you know it is safe.
Epic Touch 4G contains 4G. US Cellular Galaxy S2 doesn't. This is NOT a case of same phone, different branding on the same CDMA type network (Samsung Vitality/Samsung Admire)
However, if you are not rooted, people seems to have figured out how to root it using Epic 4G Touch methods: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526093

hey man here is a stable mod and a few guides to fix a few things.
Get your rom from here
facebook fix here
Yes we can flash their ROMs, hell we have even flashed their modems before! However do a LOT of research before you do so, and don't be afraid to ask for help from another US Cellular user on here. Also to get a few things like MMS, and the carrier branding to be correct the ROMs require a few basic edits.
There is plenty of support for this device

If you are a cyanogenmod user than here are cm9 nightlies for your phone:
http://goo.im/devs/Shabbypenguin/R760-Nightlies
They are exactly the same as the sprint version just with wimax stuff removed and a few us cellular settings.

Can you use a Kernel for i9505 or I337 on M919?

Good day to all,
I am just checking to see the full flexibility of the S4 in terms of development.
I'm looking over the specs on all of the different variations that are out for the S4.. a little more then called for.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S4
From my point of view.. the GT-I9505, SGH-I337, SGH-M919 are basicly the same.. only huge difference is the i9505 LTE bands compared to the M919 and I337.
I know if i flash the wrong kernel or mod, it can, and most likely would brick the phone..
i'm not smoking crack here.. but is it possible.. is there a way to use a I337 mod/kernel and flash over .. i guess the radio for the m919?
Can you? Maybe. Should you? No. Would it involve flashing the modem in any case? No.
People, come on now.it's never smart to run things from other phones.unless you want a fancy paper weight

I run at&t rom's and kernels on my S3 all the time. In fact I run nothing but AT&T versions of slim and kt kernel.
I plan on doing the same thing with my S4 once they get their b/l unlocked.

Exactly!
But, i came from the i9300... and it was a no no to run a i9305 on the phone with the hardware issues... but.. are the AT&T and T-Mobile phones the same?? hardware anyways??
T-Mobile and AT&T variants were next to identical on the GS3, i havent looked at specs for the S4, but i would definately NOT flash international S4 stuff to your US S4, no no no no no dont even think about it!

You probably cab but it will probably have bugs. For instance. On my s3 I can flash kernels from any other carriers and if I do sprint I get rotarion issues.

You can flash the ROMs for other models no problem as long as you flash a kernel made specifically for your device. I haven't experimented with kernels for other devices, but I can say that I have made the mistake of flashing both AT&T ROMs and i9505 ROMs and forgot to flash a TMO kernel and all I got was a nice failure to boot after the initial Galaxy S4 splash screen. Can't speak for the other carriers, but I just make it a point to flash KT kernel for the TMO device with each ROM I flash given the problems I've encountered with AT&T and i9505's models.
A brick waiting to happen. You should never flash a kernel that is NOT made for your device. Oh well going to be a good thread to watch a few days. Makes for some good reading, and good lessons for others.
Carry on!
Your welcome
As @lordcheeto03 stated I flashed i9505 rom on ATT and forgot to flash kernel and booted, it displayed a notice on boot that Non-AT&T software is detected, and didn't boot...
I also tested to flash i9505 Modem on i337 and it/ i.e. odin displayed notice, of a failure due to knox [sic] rejecting it...
I booted into recovery manually flashed i337 kernel and it successfully booted without any brick.

Nightly cynogenmod + googy-max kernal

The googy-max kernel says its for cynogenmod 10.2, but do not use on the samsung galaxy s3. It hard bricked my phone. I'm not new to flashing roms and kernels, so this wasn't a mistake on my behalf.

Are you sure you didn't make a mistake? I don't doubt that you're a veteran flasher, but you definitely messed up this time. We only use d2 kernels here.
I only see it as available for the international model S3, which we already know not to flash. Lots of veterans have made the exact same mistake. Just reinforces that no matter how much you think you know, you still should always read the stickied threads. Doesn't matter how much experience you have, every device is different.

No, i read it was ok to use with the dtmo t-mobile version of the cynogenmod nightly, here on this site. I'll try to find the forum again and reference to it.
Please do. I've never heard of any kernel, Rom, mod, or anything from the international S3 that was ok to flash to any US model.

Even if you read it in one place, that is the kind of thing you confirm before flashing. There are lots of rumors and misinformation floating around.
I can tell you that ATT and T-Mobile kernels can be cross flashed but I wouldn't know about others.

Not much Dev support for our device..

So as I surf the other galaxy note 2 forums im starting to realize there is hardly NO dev support for our devices.. I mean other galaxy note 2 forums have tons of new development and custom ROMs and what not, but out TMobile forum is pretty much crickets.. lol.. were are all the devs at...?

I'm guessing it's because the T-Mobile variant isn't as popular, to put it in laymen terms, it's a niche device, even though Samsung has sold millions of T889s. You can always head over to the AT&T or the international forum, flash the rom and flash the t-mobile radio. I haven't personally tried it but it technically should work. Anyone who has the skynote rom on their t889 mind sharing how to do that?
Funny, I was thinking the same thing. I mean you could use some att roms but you have to be careful and flash kernels and even still you'll have data drops and who wants that. I'm just a little pissed at Sammy for the lack of support for our note 2,with so many phones being released you would think they would have worked on 4.3 when it was released from Google and gave it to carriers and told them to not release it until after the note 3 was released, but that's just me I guess. I believe I'll go back to nexus after this phone hopefully by then they will have 64gb and 5000mah battery's inside. :-/ oh and it's not that simple to just flash our modem, there's efs and other technical stuff.
If you flash intl roms make sure they are for the N7105 and not the N7100.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement

As long as the frequencies from the two carriers are the same, it'll work. (I don't recommend it though, bricked my phone, but thank nandroid backup)

I've had sky note on my t889. You flash the rom then reboot. Reboot to recovery and flash devil kernel. Then boot back up and enter tmo apn. Works good if your in an lte area but data drops on 4g.

I'm not a dev, but I've been building from source for the tmobile gs2 and now have the note2. I should be able to build pretty much any stable rom for this device that is built for any other note2. I'm running slimkat right now.
