Hi, Im new to the forums
I have an at&t xperia play r800at that im using outside the US the phone is unlocked with a code that i dont have anymore, i want to remove the bloatware, free up space and make my phone run faster, i want to install the generic r800a rom to get 2.3.4 on the phone, the question is this:
if i flash the phone to r800a rom, it will lock back to at&t?, or if at anytime i want to restore it back to stock it will lock back to at&t?
Thanks in advance for any help that you guys can supply
I'm pretty sure that onces it's unlocked its unlocked no matter if you flash another rom or not. I need to find another sim so I can unlock mine (got the code the other day) and I could test that for you.
i would really appreciate if you let me know how it worked out for you, thanks

Hi guys, I got my unlock code from Telus, and am trying to unlock my T989. The phone is rooted and running AOKP-M6. The instructions say to simply insert a non-telus Sim and turn on the phone, it should then ask for the unlock code...
I did this, and its not asking me to insert the unlock code.
Do I need to restore back to stock/unroot?
I dont have the stock Nandroid, can I use any other stock rom?
Thanks!

No you dont have to do anything to your phone...i never unrooted or returnck to unlock a phone...it "should" like they said as soon as your phone turns on with a different sim it should ask to enter a code.
If you can try a different sim.
Did you buy your phone from a private seller or did you get it from tellus?
I bought it from Telus 8 months ago, I'm giving to my sister who's on Fido.
I inserted her sim and its not asking me anytihng...just says that its not connected to the network.
I just dled the Stock ICS Rom...maybe its the AOKP thats not making it work?

I just dled a Stock Telus ICS Rom and its installing now...hopefully it'll work!
I'll reply in 10 lol
It Worked!!
Thanks a lot guys
To anyone trying to unlock on AOKP, you need to first restore to a STOCK ROM

Call Verizon global support and tell them you're going overseas and need your phone unlocked so you can use a local sim card over there. If you've been a customer for (60?) days in good standing, they'll give you the code to unlock the phone.
If that doesn't work, you can buy one off ebay for like $5 (that's what I did for mine). Like this
Thank for replay but I want to use this phone only in Europe and I make a factory reset on this phone and I can't to actived the phone now. What must to do root and s-off or to flash the phone with new software and work like a GSM. Thank you

Hey guys, im from Lebanon and my friend asked me if i can fix here slow Galaxy S3...I told her that i can try to flash a custom Rom (witch basically are made for making mobile phones faster)....the confusion is, we live in Lebanon, and her phone model number is SGH-T999V, so its a Canada variant...i have no ideas about carrier, but i just wanna know if i flash a custom Rom (lets say CarbonROM):
first, the zip file is the one that ends with d2lte?
and second, will the phone be locked to a specific carrier or i can use it with, in my case, a Lebanese Sim card normally without further action?
tnx in advance, and sorry for my bad english

Yes, D2LTE is the one you are looking for. If the phone has never been SIM unlocked then the phone shall ask for an unlock code as soon as you put a SIM card from another carrier that's not the one that came with the phone.

thank you for your reply, she already used it with a Lebanese sim for about 2 years with no problem, does it means that the phone is SIM unlocked for use in Lebanon and will stay like this after flashing custom ROM? OTA official android updates also work normally btw, and after the flash she will use the same sim

Everything should work the same as usual after the flash. You may just have to change the APN after flashing. So, you may want to write down or screen cap the current APN settings before flashing.
okay guys thank you very much...ill update this post after flashing, sry for bothering
Hi all, I've been reading tons of threads and I am still having some difficulties with this phone. I am not in the US, I got this phone from a coworker that was going to throw it away and brought it with me to south america to give it to my friends mom who has no money, its and old phone but the one she has is even crappier ,I thought I would be able to just pop the SIM and get it going but nope.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it, I have a few more days before I go back home and I would love to be able to leave this working for her.
Let me put you up to speed:
-Phone is running Android 4.3
-Phone was rooted using Odin, has SU and CWM
-Followed thread here to SIm unlock: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2023709 but #4 option is not present on 4.3
-I tried downgrading to 4.1.2 custom root666 to see if I could get #4 but to no avail since you cannot from this 4.3 version
-About to follow this thread :https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48012926&postcount=8
but not sure if correct for what I want to do.
No more ideas, please help!
The phone can only be unlocked used an unlock code. Try contacting T-Mobile for a free unlock code or buy a code from eBay.
i'm with the same problem. i bought an sgh-i747 and after two months it bricked, so i replace the logical card (i don't remember how to say it in English, lol.) and boom!!! now i have a t999 and it doesn't work with movistar. (i'm from Venezuela)
but well, i've been reading posts about unlocking the phone and every one of them only works in JB 4.1.x. i don't know if i could unlock it by the downgrade process and i'm scared of getting the phone bricked again.
