Volume Bug?! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello,
I have Gnex GSM version, bought from Amazon.de.
I have the latest official firmware 4.0.2, received it promptly.
Today i was at the hospital, to see a person dear to me, and i put the phone on silent. The phone would increase the volume by itself.
It did not go crazy or sumth, however it would not stay silent.
I tried turning off the data network (3g/2g) as the [repeating] change between all data speeds seemed to trigger it (though i cannot tell for sure).
This did not fix things.
What eventually SEEM to have fixed the problem was quiting from the app i have running called LLama (this is an app which according to your location/signal [NOT GPS] performs certain actions and events such as profile changes.).
Conclusion? is this the volume bug? why is it still there if that is the case?!
I am annoyed and looking for help as i know there are a lot of experts here.
Thanks
Regards,

Llama has an option to disable volume buttons, which is useful to prevent profile changes when you press a volume button. You can manually choose another profile (silent) or disable that feature in Llama settings - Disable volume buttons.

[Q] Where did my Silent go!

Ok so I know my way around a phone or too so I think this should be obvious but please if you can help me out here. I recently purchased the HTC Surround which I am beyond happy about, fantastic phone. However this seems to be an OS question more than phone.
I haven't found a simple way to have the Silent mode on without going to settings and disabling the Vibrate function. With Vibrate turned on if you hold down the volume key until 0 it switches to vibrate and there is no way of getting to full Silent mode. Can anyone help me with this if I am just missing something obvious here.
Thank you in advance
i don't think there is a silent mode as of yet. also, when you hit volume, you don't have to bring it all the way to 0, you can merely tap the icon on the right and it will flick between ring and viberate. though the problem with doing this i've found is that when you go into a game, the game still utilises the sound which i found a bit strange.

It's a bit annoying, but you'll have to go into ringtones and sounds in the settings and turn vibrate OFF. Then, when you go down to 0 it will be silent. You'll have to change vibrate back to ON when you want it back.
is there a way to set text messages and emails to vibrate? i haven't seen this in the emulator.

if you set the phone's profile to viberate, it quiets all the OS' built in notifications and typing and that. it does not however quiet apps/games sounds. only way to do that is drop the volume itself.
what i mean is on the normal volume profile can i sent a ring tone for calls, and vibrate for texts and emails?
not at present. it's still very simple on/off stuff for most, hopefully MS really goes through each section of the OS and brings it to the level of what is expected in high end phones.
Not an answer to the ops question, but if you press the down volume button, you can then click the "ring" icon and it will cycle between ring and vibrate (I would have expected silent there too)

[Q] Inadvertently decreased ringer volume and missed calls

Sometimes I accidently turn ringer volume down low (not mute) and miss an important call.
I’ve found apps such as Ringer Volume (Android-Lab) to reset it at given times, however they all wants ‘full Internet access’ don’t know if I like that with an app that will be constantly running and with my limited data allowance?
Another option would be a taskbar icon showing my volume level; however I cannot find any such widget.
It’s not mute that give me the problem it’s when I decrease the Ring Volume sometimes by accident when holding my Desire HD, with CyanogenMod 7.
Anyone got any suggestions on this?
there's an app called Settings Profile that u can set rules to do stuff, so u can set a rule to keep invoking a certain profile at whatever interval you want. The Lite version can only set 1 rule so I am not sure if that's good enough for you or not.
Hi Lukesky, thanks for taking the time to help.

I think I had looked at Setting Profiles before but just had another look and my concern with it is that it takes Full Internet Access, perhaps I’m being paranoid but I only have 20Mb of data per day and then the price per Mb goes up dramatically, let alone when I’m roaming, OK I know I could turn Data off if I wanted. So do you think the Lite App will be using data via its internet access?
here u go buddy...its simple quick and fast.... i use it all the time and place as widget
Thanks Lalitehgal, I appreciate your help however unless I’m mistaken this widget has no option for an auto timed volume increase, and my problem is I sometimes do not realize I have decreased the volume while holding the phone.
@richardsoffice: in my opinion you should definitely not be required to adjust ringtone or notification volume manually. Because once - in office - you are satisfied, but then - on the street - you just don't hear anything. The phone should adjust the ringtone volume automatically based on ambient noise and phone position (pocket/out of pocket/table/...). Check out an app called IntelliRing.
Manually adjusting ringtone volume does not do any harm if your ringtone volume is managed by IntelliRing. So you can accidentally adjust volume as you want

[Q] Missing Silent Mode on Jelly Bean?

Hi all, How are you?
I updated my Galaxy Nexus to Jelly Bean, and It seems that silent mode options were removed from Settings?
I have spent some time searching for the silent mode options on Settings and I could not figure out where they are now.
Please, May someone confirm that Silent mode options were removed from stock Jelly Bean (4.1.1 Build JR003C)?
thanks in advance,
Roger

Hi Roger,
I am new but thought maybe I could help. If you hold the power button for a second a menu will appear. Just touch the speaker with the / through it or just hit volume down until the speaker has a strike through it from the main menu. Does that help?

Use volume rocker down key till it goes to silent mode
Hi all,
thanks a lot for helping.
So, Were the silent options really removed from settings on Android 4.1 stock?Or are they somewhere else?
I could't find it...
Both work around posted works, but it is huge drawback as I can`t switch between Silent mode profiles easily anymore
(normal, only vibrate and mute all profiles) =(
On ICS, I could easily switch between normal profile, vibrate and mute all on Settings as those options where all on the same place.
Is there any Settings menu where I can do the same on Jelly Bean?

Well, using the power button I can switch from normal to vibrate, but I couldn`t find a option to switch it to mute all(I mean, also to silent vibrate). Did I miss something?

It works only to put the phone on vibrate, and It is not efficient/practical hit the volume rocker all the time when You switch among those profiles very often...
thanks a lot,

I am not sure what is missing because I always use the volume rocker or the power switch to change profiles. If you hold down the power button there should be 3 options on the bottom of the screen. 1. The speaker with a / through it (silent mode) 2. A vibrating phone (vibrate only mode) 3. A regular speaker (all on). If you are not seeing 3 options I am not sure how to solve your problem. Also if you are thankful, please hit the thanks button instead of saying thanks. Cheers and good luck Roger.

Hi NexUsandThem,
thanks a lot for helping again (this time I used the thanks button )
Those options were also available on Settings->Sound on ICS.
I have looked on Android 2.3 and 4.0.4 and those options are present there.
Therefore, I think they were removed from Jelly Bean =/
i have silent mode?

Well you are definitely missing something as the picture above shows the power-menu on jb with all the 3 actions you have requested? Mine looks like this as well.
Sound Menu API changed with Jellybean update V4.1.1.1
Why did Google change the Mute and Vibrate controls in update V4.1.1.1 ? I have been using two profile managment programs, 1 is automatic and 1 is a set of manual presets of the user's own design.
Changes that messed me up:
-Mute had been removed from the sound menu.
-Vibrate is on automatically on all rings and notifications when you turn the volume down to zero.
My profile programs cannot access the manual controls available when you hold the power button.
Because of the demands of my job, I have become a phone "user", rather than a phone hobbyist who has hours to tinker with a phone. I wish Google wouldn't just scramble controls around between versions, breaking the functionality of profile APPS bought on Google Market.
I am just sort of pissed because of the time lost to this problem and my phone is still vibrating when I don't want it too.

Ringer volume turns-up, from vibrate to the lowest sound level, when receiving a call

Hello,
I'm having precisely the issue described at https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/1417846 (there is no answer there).
... when I have the volume mode set to Vibrate, whenever a call is incoming, the ringer volume is turned up automatically! The volume slider looks to be moved about two notches up from Vibrate. This is a deal-breaker! Due to this behavior, I can no longer silence my phone during a meeting, in a movie theater, or anywhere else that demands silence. Now, I must power-off my phone in such scenarios, which is getting old incredibly quickly.

This all started on March 24, when I accepted Verizon's OTA to MRA589K (Software Version is VS98625A).
I have not yet tried a factory reset, as it's such a PITA without root and the ability to use Titanium Backup.
Is anybody else experiencing this issue?
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks!
A factory reset did fix the ringer and notification issues. Thanks... for nothing, Verizon!
It's obnoxious that an OTA breaks the phone in such a way that a factory reset is necessary just to continue use.
At least the LG Backup tool is useful and works well.

Phone keeps lowering volume every few mins help!

So out of no where my phone has just been lowering randomly every 5 to 10 mins and it's definitely not a faulty volume button it sets it to an exact level every single time. Also when connected to Bluetooth in my car instead of lowering volume it changes to only the left channel speakers working till I reset Bluetooth. So idk how to fix this
Some crazy app?
