Greetings!
Past couple of weeks when trying to connect my Arc to the PC it will not pick it up. It charges OK with the green light showing on the side but absolutely no indication from PC or laptop that a phone is connected.. I have 3 different cables and another laptop - having tried all the cables on both machines - still no joy.
No notification in the pull down - nada!
Reinstalled Win7 and factory reset phone half a dozen times - still nothing!
Running Win7 64bit but have never had issues with OS previously up until a few weeks ago!
Service provider was as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike!
Anyone know a solution?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply TheHaso. Should have mentioned I have tried with Companion installed and not installed, updater installed and not installed. With debug on & off, MTP on & off, MSC on & off, storage mounted/unmounted.
Really strange to be honest!
check your 'Device Manager' on your desktop,, it will show you if any hardware connected and not working propely.
right click and try update driver if show caution on portable devices.

Also tried this for a solution buddy.. Thought it was a USB driver had slipped off or something.
Truly baffled! If it's charging fine then why would pc companion not detect it :-S

I'm sure you must have already done that but may be try updating with a different driver and see if it could solve problem. I know because it also happened to me.

Greetings, which other driver would you be referring to? I have literally tried everything but still no detection from PC in MTP or MSC.

Uninstall the driver from device manager, then restart the pc and connect to another usb port
From my sexy LT15i
This will work...
I have almost the same problem on my ARC.
Download MyPhoneExplorer on your PC and install it.
Download MyPhoneExplorer Client from the market and install it on your phone.
Turn on USB debugging and connect your phone with your PC.
This works on my arc and i guess it will work on you phone as well..

Cheers for the reply guys.

i got an S3.. and my computer has xp pro. i had to restore my computer recently from a saved image of my system. before i restored my computer, i was able to connect my S3 to it via USB with no problem. but after i restored it, i'm unable to.
i downloaded and installed the MTP driver, which got my computer to recognize my phone before i restore it. but now its not working and i dont see it listed in Device Manager. whats weird is that when i connect my S3 to my computer, the phone doesnt give any notifications that the phone is connected to USB like it used to before. and it also doesnt give me the 2 options of connecting by either MTP or Camera. all it does is charge my phone. how do i fix this?

Try a different USB cable. I had a similar problem and using another cable fixed it for me.

You also might get the pdanet usb driver and install that in your PC in order to get the usb to recognize an internet access via USB.
You should be able to download the USB driver from PDANet's website.
Just a "maybe" thought. Hope it helps!

Install kies if that doesn't do it then reflash the ROM
I have this strange problem, that I've had for a while. on plugging my xperia s into the computer PC companion doesn't find the phone no matter what I try. However if I select "Install PC companion " in settings, when I plug the phone in and select the option to install the software it does show up and I can use it fine.
But I would rather not have to do this every time I plug my phone in, is there a way to fix this? If I can remember correctly I had the same issue on GB and I flashed to ICS via flashtools which made no difference...
cheers
I have this problem too actually, I googled it and came across that answer of installing PC companion, which does the job but now I am trying to root the phone and reallly need this fixed so it is able to be rooted
thanks
Try add device under task manager, it'll detect a eerror with xperia s driver. Click fix and it will reinstall the phone driver. It should work afterwards.

under devices and printers? I selected add new device and plugged the phone in but it doesn't find it.
But actually it does show up in that window as 'LT26i' see the photo but when I click on it it doesn't really say anything
Is your device recognized by Windows ? I had the same problem until I installed the drivers. Check the device manager.
Not to say the obvious but did you install the driver package found in flashtool? It's not a button, rather in the folder that contains flashtool.exe there's another folder called drivers. Just run the file.

If nothing works, uninstall the drivers and PC companion. Reboot the PC. Connect the Phone to the PC and let it install PC companion again.
Here is something that worked for me:
go to settings-----storage----seetings----mtp on
after that my computer recognized the phone
I managed to fix the issue, by installing the .55 firmware with full wipe. I had ruled this out as the problem was there when I upgraded from GB to ICS.
But to the OP, if you are still having this issue I would recommend doing that as well. or try @memphis77's suggestion
cheers
Try to reinstall latest version PC Companion again ,and check in Devices and Printers.
HI:
I have my friend phone and it's Xperia S , i just want to root it but the problem is all rootkits can't detect my phone , just still on "wait for device".
Flashtool can detect it fine and the Sony PC Companion can.
I am trying to root using DooMLoRD Toolkit v18.
1) Are the Drivers installed?
a.Is USB debugging on?
2) Turn on Unknown Sources because it doesn't hurt to
3) Check the Cable
4) Try another computer

I had tried both , but the problem is from the drivers on my Windows 8.1 and i don't know how to fix it.
I recently acquired a Sony Xperia C6506 (ZL LTE). Before I start playing around with this phone, i need to offload some photos. I'm trying to connect the phone to my laptop running Windows 7 via the USB. My system does not recognize the phone. I'm assuming it's because I don't have the correct driver on my windows system . (I've also tried "PC Companion but had no luck there either). I searched the Sony web site for a driver but did not see a specific one for the C6506. Does anyone know where I can find the correct driver for the USB on Windows 7? Or does anyone have any other ideas why this might not be working?
Thanks
I have the same phone and windows 7 recoginzed it and installed the driver by itself. Didn't remember if it downloaded it or found it from the system. Perhaps you can try the PC companion software from Sony.

What happens when you connect the phone to your PC? Anything? Do you see any messages popping up? Any errors? Do you see it in device manager? Also, do you see any messages on your phone when you plug it in? What USB connection mode is set in your phone's settings? In general, MTP should be the most universal method.
I have the same phone, and it is recognized perfectly by Windows 7 (at work) and Windows 8.1 (at home). When you install Sony PC Companion, it includes the proper drivers, so you don't need to do anything extra (you do need additional drivers for flash mode and ADB, but that's a different topic). I would suggest trying another PC, to see if it makes any difference. If it still doesn't work, it might be something with your phone...
As an alternative, you can use a WiFi connection to access your files on the phone. I often use either ES File Explorer or Software Data Cable - they both provide an FTP service that you can connect to from your PC over WiFi.
Have you tried with another cable? My Xperia is recognized perfectly out-of-the-box on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, as soon as I connect it, PC starts to search and download drivers, no PC Companion installed nor Flashtool drivers. :/

Yeah, that would be a good option to start, forgot to mention it. I've seen bad USB cables quite a few times, more often than I'd expect...
Thanks again for the quick replies and the suggestions cause they worked - it was the cable. The cable I was using was capable of charging the phone but did not allow Windows to recognize it. I used a different cable and it worked fine. Tharnks again. Now the fun begins changing the phone into a media playing device. If you have any suggestions on this I'm all ears.
Thanks
Someone with more knowledge please help me.
I can not, for the life of me, get my computer to recognize my watch.
I've tried everything, I've tried installing the driver package another user posted.
I've enable usb debugging in dev settings.
I have adb working correctly but when I type adb devices it's blank.
The only glimmer of hope is I successfully connected my watch via bluetooth debugging and got a debugging dialog on my watch.
I've tried on two computers as well
I really need a detailed guide on how to get my computer to recognize this damn thing
Thanks - A very frustrated novice
Me too. Exact same situation. It was like i read my problem. Also i manage to unlock the device in fastboot mode. Adb in that mode is comunicating with the watch. Please help us. I dont know what to do anymore.

Does your PC react at all when you plug in the USB cable? (Sorry if this is too basic.) Just wondering if its a bad charging cable.

Yes, my pc makes a noise and in my device manager the watch is identified as a Marshall London device. I think that's due to one of the many drivers I attempted to install. Thanks for your help by the way

Any ideas?
I have some problem how to solve??Any one have solve?
Thx
I've posted this many times in the various Huawei forums and it has worked for everyone so far.
First, remove all other drivers using USBDeview.
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
Then use this tutorial to manually install the Google USB driver.
http://visualgdb.com/KB/usbdebug-manual/
Good luck!
