FC14 Modem = big improvement - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I have tried all previous modems for this phone, they all disconnected from 4g network a few times an hour when I'm in my apartment. I have been running FC14 for 3 days now and haven't had a single disconnect.
This link is from Calkulin:
http://www.buildarom.com/E4GT/Modems/E4GT_Modem_FC14.tar

Duly noted. I'll check this out.

i would get .30kb down and NEVER get a gps lock until i started using the fc series modems........now im getting 1.5mb down and an instantaneous gps lock!

Agreed. FC14 has been really good to me. Im going to try FC15 later today.

Is that blazer 4.0? What else are you doing to get that battery life?

Can you use the fc 14 modem on gb as well?
I think you can just want to be sure.

yeah, I'm using a GB rom with it

FC14 was really that good? Dang, looks like I'll flash it now. lol

When changing ROMs I like to flash my modem while still in GB before ICS to just avoid any hassles and it seems to work fine in 2.3.x.

I can confirm better gps reception on fc14 modem vs el29. GPS locked in about 5 seconds vs the minute it used to take.

Yea it is. Auto brightness. No undervolt. Using Setcpu similar to Calks battery script, except I have mine running at 1.2ghz for 10% more. 1.2ghz (100-70%), 1ghz (69-35%), 800mhz (34-0%). And thats about it. Just used my phone regularly. I was on WIFI the entire time. Though, STILL VERY IMPRESSIVE. I use to hit 3-3 1/2 hrs on screen time with wifi on 100% of the time.

Same place, same test - diferent results

Both rom with 4G (calkulin and UNleashed-Ultra_R2) but results difference is huge. Tested Koni rom and have great results just like with UNleashed-Ultra_R2.Why is that? (looks like calkulin 4G is 3G please prove me wrong) Flashed both rom several time back and fourth and here are my results. Just to add Calkulin its my favorite ROM, at least it was until now.

I am in the hinterlands so I do not know what 4G would be like, but I am skeptical it's not simply a result of traffic on your node.
If you are flashing back and forth, how much time was between tests? Even if that gap was limited to 3 or 4 minutes, it seems hard to compare without like devices next to each other.
How consistently was that spike produced?
Although it's over 3G, I produce fluctuations of 30 to 40 percent with the same device/ROM in back to back Speedtests.
I am fairly consistent over 3G comparing the stock ROM to SalvageMod 1.0.
I think the issue is generally Sprint.
Doesn't meter because at end I tried with 2 phones at same time and results are staying same. Calkulin give me almost same result on 3G and 4G, and that is same result I had on Unleashed with 3G. That should be enough. So to confirm:
Tried same phone
tried different phones same time
Both way results are same
Question is.. why are your results on both 3G and 4G while using Calkulin rom?

I believe you're having an isolated incident, no difference between my phone running v1.8 and my wife's stock, unrooted phone. Download/upload speeds are nearly identical with 3G and 4G.

[Q] android OS

in the battery usage graph what does the android OS include? and i've noticed on this phone it takes up ALOT of battery, why is that? is there a way to "cool its jets"?
i dont know if this matters but im rooted and running the STARBURST ROM.
thanks for any and all info that you could give me
HAHA it's Android. Things that are required for Android to run. The way to fix it would be to buy a dumb phone without Android.
Im having this problem as well with cm7. Android OS being the top consumer killing by battery.
I have been having this problem for about a week now (stock ROM). This is after a full charge the night before and I took the screenshot in the morning.

You will always have high Android OS until you start using the phone. After a full day's use, it should read 20-25% if your setup is dialed in. It will show less with Rogue kernels. They have it masked somewhat

But the phone was down to 85% power just sitting overnight.
Is that normal? (Serious question, not being a smart-ass.)

Not for me it wasn't lol, way slower than stock, and i was out performing quadrant and linpack tests on stock.
Going down %15 overnight sounds typical. Are talking like 8-10 hours?
It"s "typical," but it is NOT what this device is capable of.
The Android OS usage is not supposed to happen. It's a bug, albeit an omnipresent and seemingly unkillable one. There is nothing you can do about it except reboot and hope it doesn't re-trigger.
Without triggering the bug, I was able to sleep for eight to ten hours and drop about 2% in that time frame. THAT is what this device is ACTUALLY capable of.

Ics battery life is kinda poor

Is anyone else having poor battery life with there current ics roms? Just took it off the charger and about an hour later I'm at 86 percent

Is this another April Fools joke?
They are LEAKS you're never gonna have the best battery life on a leak till the devs can get the source code for the OFFICIAL release.

Hmm running Calkulins v1.2, with light to medium use (never turning mobile data off, wifi on and off all day, moderate web use), I get between 3.5-5.5%/hr. Better than the CM7 alpha, not quite as good as First run of Venum's modified stock..
I've actually been impressed on how good the batt life is considering a Leak.
That being said, I know a kid that flashed Calkulins and consumes like 20%/hr... Every phone is different.

ICS Benchmark results

Hey just wanted to make a thread for people to post their benchmark screens and maybe we can compare them to GB ROMS and see the difference.
Here are a few screens from the antutu benchmark app

Here's from quadrant

I tried out Raver's blackedition ICS port, I would score 3600~ish(1.5Ghz stock) on Quadrant. I flashed back to GB though due to how glitchy the ROM felt to me and lack of wifi calling and flash.
On GB I score around 2800~ stock speeds.
Can't wait for a stable release of ICS. haha
I got around 3800-3900 quadrant on Easydoesit ICS around 3200 on Tuesday GB (my DD).
Scores mean nothing.....don't know why this is even cared about

A fixed version has been out for a few days already man, with the patch already applied to the ROM. I'm running it now and getting 4000's easy.
The ICS ROM updated from stock after 2hours when purchased and switched on.
Here is the benchmark screen seconds after installation:
Second screen is after ~month with lots of apps, games etc installed (but still on Factory Rom)

Nexus battery issue

Hi all. I have a gnex that has horrible battery life. I have tried using the stock battery and the OEM extended battery however I will only get about eight hours of use. I am running cm10 with lean kernel. I have overclocked, under clocked, and undervolted but has made no difference. I am including some screenshots so someone can try to help me or at least tell me I'm not alone lol.

How much screen time? Press screen in the battery option.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
1. Don't overclock
2. Don't use LTE
3. Keep your screen as dim as possible
4. CM isn't really known as a battery saver rom. Its more of a performance with stability type rom
5. Test out other kernels.
6. Check your apps to make sure you don't have one that's killing your battery
7. GPS should be off
8. Turning sync off will help too
Oh ya and questions go in the Q and A forum

If you're constantly in areas with low signal and data on, your battery will drain from trying to get a signal.

Well it seems like you're using the phone pretty hard on LTE with a 1.6ghz overclock... Sounds about right.

Yes, way overclocked. Is your phone actually using that frequency and is it stable. Lean exp. 5 can under clock on the low side to 180. Try that.
Actually your battery life seems quite normal.
Some folks are saying that Diet kernel gives great battery life. I haven't tried it yet. I'm wondering if it will slow my phone down too much. I'm loving the speed and stability of Lean kernel.
