Nexus battery issue - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi all. I have a gnex that has horrible battery life. I have tried using the stock battery and the OEM extended battery however I will only get about eight hours of use. I am running cm10 with lean kernel. I have overclocked, under clocked, and undervolted but has made no difference. I am including some screenshots so someone can try to help me or at least tell me I'm not alone lol.

How much screen time? Press screen in the battery option.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app

1. Don't overclock
2. Don't use LTE
3. Keep your screen as dim as possible
4. CM isn't really known as a battery saver rom. Its more of a performance with stability type rom
5. Test out other kernels.
6. Check your apps to make sure you don't have one that's killing your battery
7. GPS should be off
8. Turning sync off will help too
Oh ya and questions go in the Q and A forum

If you're constantly in areas with low signal and data on, your battery will drain from trying to get a signal.

Well it seems like you're using the phone pretty hard on LTE with a 1.6ghz overclock... Sounds about right.

Yes, way overclocked. Is your phone actually using that frequency and is it stable. Lean exp. 5 can under clock on the low side to 180. Try that.
Actually your battery life seems quite normal.
Some folks are saying that Diet kernel gives great battery life. I haven't tried it yet. I'm wondering if it will slow my phone down too much. I'm loving the speed and stability of Lean kernel.

[Q] What the hell is this dip in my battery life?

So, at some point I turned off my phone and I -think- the sudden spike down in battery life is around that time.
Anyone got any explanations?

Mine has done that as well a couple of times. One time I had a charge of around 75%...rebooted my phone, and the battery was down to 15% percent.
Maybe it's just another bug we'll have to deal with until they come out with a fix.
thats strange mine doesnt have that much of a dip
every samsung product I have does this, gt 7, gt 10.1, droid charge, and this one. I don't recall my og droid, evo 4g or 3d doing this.
All phones show a dip when there is a battery pull while the phone is on....

Wasn't a pull, just a shutdown and reboot.

Stock battery stats lol
**** didn't notice that graph at the top.

well if your phone was rebooted then that bald would have been reset because it displays monitors since last power-on.
there seems to be a bug where the cpu fails to underclock after a certain amount of usage and/or load. rebooting after intensive apps and/or before leaving the phone idle for extended periods of time seems to solve the problem for me. yes i get that too.

[Q] android OS

in the battery usage graph what does the android OS include? and i've noticed on this phone it takes up ALOT of battery, why is that? is there a way to "cool its jets"?
i dont know if this matters but im rooted and running the STARBURST ROM.
thanks for any and all info that you could give me
HAHA it's Android. Things that are required for Android to run. The way to fix it would be to buy a dumb phone without Android.
Im having this problem as well with cm7. Android OS being the top consumer killing by battery.
I have been having this problem for about a week now (stock ROM). This is after a full charge the night before and I took the screenshot in the morning.

You will always have high Android OS until you start using the phone. After a full day's use, it should read 20-25% if your setup is dialed in. It will show less with Rogue kernels. They have it masked somewhat

But the phone was down to 85% power just sitting overnight.
Is that normal? (Serious question, not being a smart-ass.)

Not for me it wasn't lol, way slower than stock, and i was out performing quadrant and linpack tests on stock.
Going down %15 overnight sounds typical. Are talking like 8-10 hours?
It"s "typical," but it is NOT what this device is capable of.
The Android OS usage is not supposed to happen. It's a bug, albeit an omnipresent and seemingly unkillable one. There is nothing you can do about it except reboot and hope it doesn't re-trigger.
Without triggering the bug, I was able to sleep for eight to ten hours and drop about 2% in that time frame. THAT is what this device is ACTUALLY capable of.

Battery Drain because of Screen

I'm running FB17 and the battery is draining pretty quick and it seems the screen is the culprit....

The screen has been turned off for most of the 5+ hours its been up....any ideas??
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Samsung probably hasn't calibrated the battery stats yet on these new builds, so a lot of those values are probably off from their "true" values. When I tried to run FB17 as my daily, I had to give up after less than a day because of battery drain, even with underclocking and configuring the governor to be more conservative. The SoC's power saving features probably haven't been implemented yet.
The screen has always been a problem for battery drain. I'm on 2.3.6 gingerbread EK02 and its still a factor for the bad battery life.
Are you using autobrightness? If not, what is your brightness set at?

I ran Blazer for months and never had an issue with battery life....Phantom and Calk's ROMs always seem to produce better battery life than stock.

Ya...always use autobright. The thing that's baffling is the phone was sleeping for 5 of the 5+ hours. I just don't get how the screen was 50% of the battery drain when it was off.

No....it fluctuates depending on use.

I need battery life!

Alright I have grown beyond angry at how crapy my battery life is...... I go into school with 100 percent battery and everything off except texting and calling (which I send like 5 texts all day) and I come out with less than 70 percent. I have low signal in the building though, and my phone is set to the lowest speed on power save and I hardly ever turn the screen on. I would like for you guys to share your battery life's here with screen shots if you have them and your whole setup. Thanks beforehand!

And If I use my phone it drains very quickly too.

try out different kernels and find one that works for you, also try out a black themed rom, will use much less screen on time
Why is this in themes and apps? This is a question.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Xparent White Tapatalk 2
Oops sorry can a mod move it?

Whats your ROM/Kernel combination? any OC ? And UV? I normally underclock to 1Ghz to save juice.
Signal strength makes all the difference in the world. Turn on airplane mode when in very low signal areas or at least disable network data. There isn't really any other way around low signal battery drain.

Stick with Trinity, So far it works the best with me. Go with interactive/cfq for governor/scheduler or interactive/deadline.
I go to school with 70%, Listen to music on the way, then to work later, and after a solid 12 hrs. I come home with roughly around 40%. And yes, I text more than you do, 5 texts? Try 400 atleast a day, and I have 3G on the whole day..Most cases I just turn it off when I don't need it.

I also recommend lowering your minimum clock, since the device uses it quite often.

[Q] Best rom for battery life?

Please my phone litterally died in 3 hours from full charge with 1hour screen on time
Running FINAL SOurcery and Faux 29u kernel underclocked at 1000 mhz with intelli demand
First things first, don't ask "best" type questions on xda. Everybody has different experiences.:good:
That being said, I am personally always running the latest AOSPA (Paranoid Android) and latest AK kernel. Great ROM, and absolutely perfect kernel. I usually get around 3 hours on screen time with that combo.
Of course, you have to remember that there are many many factors that impact battery life. For example, if you have data turned on (either 3g or 4g), gps on, or brightness high, your battery will suffer. Search the forums for various ways to improve battery life.
I always have the best results running stock for battery life.

Maybe you should look into purchasing a new battery.

^^^This. If you are having that crappy of battery life, its most likely the battery itself. No ROM or kernel is going to help you.
Mine too and i have baked +Franco.

Buy extended, cost me 5$ with case! XD
This is heavy use (3G only, no WiFi) also I'm with wind so having a crappy network signal kills it even more, yours will most likely look better.
Running latest CM 10.1 nightly and Franco kernel r378
