Why the lack of microSD may be a problem. - HTC One X

Right now some might be okay with the lack of a microSD slot, because they don't need that much storage, and they much prefer NAND memory, but here's a few things that I would consider to be critically important for a microSD slot:
1. If the phone dies, how are you going to pull files off of it?
2. When doing anything like flashing PD98IMG.zip files like in the Desire HD, how are you going to be able to get rid of/rename the file on the internal NAND if you cannot access the main Android OS?

That may be enough to put it back on near top of my list. Sure the Galaxy S3 is going to be superb, but I am interested in Tegra 3 phones. The mediocre battery plus lack of SD card did lower its place on my list. Good I feel easier about HTC than going LG 4x HD. The Fujitsu F12arc is hard to top though with being waterproof, Tegra 3, 13mp camera. If it makes it beyond prototype and global.

Galaxy S3 is all about specs, i think. Sense and Htc is far much better on software side, just hope they will release beats and imagechip drivers. ;-) As far as im concerned, hardware doesn't mean much at quadcore phones anymore, more about camera and software.

i think one of the reason one x is not having a micro sd slot is because slow sd cards will affect the camera's instant snap and video +still picture capturing feature.. not to many multishot functions as well..

I have to agree with this point. If the One X had an SD card slot, and someone pops in some old class 1-3 SD Card, into the phone, I can see trouble happening.

So how are we meant to to nandroid backups? Won't flashing just erase all internal memory?

No if you go look in the development section you can see that the One X has an internal virtual sd partition.

Ya, honestly be told, my friend has a Galaxy S II, after he boot up his Galaxy S II still need to wait access to SD card and the reason of not having SD card is because the SD card will actually slow down the phone even it is higher classes, also decrease battery life.
So, actually I'm glad that HTC have done a nice job on it.

So where am I going to store all my music? The 32GB microSD I have is running out already. This phone is useless for me because of that sole reason..

nope, as said: virtual sd-partition.
the touch diamond was the same story.
4GB internal Mem. not efected by flashing, hardreset etc. im not sure at this moment, but i have in mind, that you coukd access the int.mem even in the bootloader.
or just flash a stock rom and youre in.
and if your hardware's dead, then you've got other problems
but in that case you can replace nearly everything on htc-devices.
on the diamon i replaced a broken display and some speakerstuff successfully.
but the inbuild battery could be a pain in the 4$$: what if the system freezes? bsod or some thing? will there be any reset button like the good old WiMobile phones? i don't think so.
THAT is, what i am afraid of. but i will buy it anyway. it'll be a REALY great device, like the HD2 2,5years ago.

ur not gonna be able to listen to 32GB worth of music in a single sitting.. heck, 32GB of music will take more than a year.. unless ur a DJ or something, i dun think there is really a need to put your entire music collection on the phone.
secondly, a phone is used for other functions as well.. filling it up with music means less space for downloading email attachment, camera shots and etc..
that said, if u really need to store that much music, i suggest getting a dedicated music device (aka an ipod )..
hope i dun offend anyone for this blunt post..
(ps, in reality, user available space is 26gb if i am correct.. part of the 32gb is locked for htc as system space)

Shutdown probably. I can't recall, where I read it, sorry. But I am certain that htc has this problem covered.
There is already a thread about this: CLICK

go buy some proper music player with an SD Slot for this, and you got a better audioquality too.. (cowon ftw.)
32gb are more than enough for me. and it was clear that the internal memory is emulated as SD Card. so that all apps are able to function.
I don't care about the lack of the SD Card..
more do i care about the non removable battery.......
not because the reset if it freezes (there will be the 4-secs-instant-poweroff i guess) but because the batterylife itself..
i'm used to have a spare battery.. instantly back to 100%..
this will be a big problem for me. i just hope HTC made some BIG improvements in this case, or this phone will be a fail

[Q] htc hd7 storage

will the new htc hd7 have external memory? (hence micro sd card capable)
No
No WP7 phones will have removable storage, but some of them do support Micro SD cards, these shouldn't be removed or changed though once installed.
My mistake it does have one:
http://wmpoweruser.com/htc-hd7-microsd-slot-exposed/
Actually the answer is HD7 has kind of swappable storage It is possible to change the current memory card. The bad news is this operation involves removing of the backpanel, voiding the warranty and hard resetting to format the new card in appropriate way.

Nope no SD card on it

You can do that on phones without SD slots...it is called USB mass storage, which coincidentally is disabled by ice cream sandwich.
In my experience, especially dealing with verizon, I'd better have an SD slot, because the phone WILL fail and require a replacement and the last thing I need is a bricked phone that I can't recover my files from.
So, I was holding our for the Nexus but now I need to figure out my next device real soon...

Why are you blaming Verizon, or hardware issues for something that could happen that would be entirely your fault? (not backing up your own info)
So, the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have an SD slot. Is it Google?
What I mean is, my understanding of the Nexus S was that it was essentially Google's specs and design and Samsung made it, but they wanted to have their own phone with all their crapware on the market, so the basically made the exact same hardware in a different case and filled it full of Touchwiz. But the Galaxy S had an SD slot!
So is the no SD slot something Google have decided for security/aesthetic reasons, or is just a technical thing and they decided the phone could live without?
I never fire up my laptop anymore so backing up my files would be a problem.
If I wanted to be hooked to a laptop to backup I'd get an iPhone.

I hardly ever remove sd card from the phone and to be honest unless you store loads of music/videos 16GB of build in memory is way more than I need...
I got GN on VZW, unfortunately no SD card, which would typically annoy me, but with Google Music/Spotify, Calandar, Gmail, Contacts, G+/Picasa Web, and Dropbox (which can be used to transfer files too) there really is no need to worry about having to back up/transfer or need more storage anymore.
No slot=no sale.... Why would they make that decision. Unless the phone had 32gb internal.
No expandable memory? WTF, thought only Apple did that.
nope, no memory slot. That's why Galaxy 2 is a better phone. Just my .02
cloud services and managing your drive space should help keep it from filling too fast, it is terrible that they didn't include the sdcard slot option

Are you formatting the card with the phone or in your computer? Have you tried you phone with a different card? Maybe you have a damaged phone, same goes for the card. I got a 64 GB card for my phone, and had to format it with the phone before being able to use it, after that I haven't had any trouble. The only thing is that every time that I connect my phone through USB to my PC (Win7), it tells me the card is damaged and gives me the option of scanning and fixing it or ignore it. I choose ignore, but it a bit annoying to do it every time.

Could just be the card. I've had bad ones from the start, had good ones go bad, etc..
I have a generic card that would not work at all unless it was put in to an adapter, and then only sometimes. I've since put it into my Zoom H2 recorder where it seems it's the only place it wants to work full time.
I personally won't buy any off brand SD cards anymore, Sandisk only for me, have yet to have one of these crap out yet.

Probably is the card though, I've had similar issues in the past, none with Ion though. Sdcards can be rather fickle and hidden files can get stuck on there much like on a flash drive. I have a box full of flash drives that are irreparable.
Try replacing the card first. Also I usually let Windows repair mine when it asks. Seems to help. eb

[Q] my 64gb card = 2tb?

So I have a 64gb sandisc u1 card, in partition magic it shows the usable space as a partition in between a small set of unpartitioned space and a large set.
All space = 2tb
Thoughts?

Exploits?
Sent from my SGH-T889
sounds like you might have picked up a fake card chinese formatted.. i'd backup anything you have on it, delete all partitions and redo it. see what it comes up with then..
No, its from best buy. I dont buy transflash off ebay. Its 59gb in compasity currently. I didnt do any mods. Im asking about possable mods, or as I have infered, that theirs nothing. It shows 59gb in windows. Only partition magic shows 2tb full withh all the rest of the area being unpartitioned and unformated space

His post above yours says what he's using. Partition magic. Either way, I'm guessing the issue is the software if Windows shows the true value. If you want a safe piece of mind, back up the data, and exchange it best buy. If the new one reads the same issue, then it's the software. Cause no way 2TB would fit a microsd.

I dont belive its the software because other trans flash didnt have this issue.
Yes pc
I dont need help formatic the card its working just fine at stock settings currently.

Have you tried using the software to read other 64GB cards? Either way, if everything is working fine, and you download other software and everything but Partition magic reads it at 64GB, then just keep it.

It's not a 2TB card. As people have answered you, either the hardware is borked, or the software is confused with that card (make, model, when it was made, etc). Just because other cards have worked fine doesn't mean the software isn't confused. Just because you bought it from BestBuy doesn't mean the card is good.
People asked about eBay because many of us have been burned buying a card that is formatted wrong so it looks like it has a higher capacity than it really has. Either the software you are using (that exact edition, set up, installation) is giving you possible options to make computers think it is higher capacity (which will not do you any good), or that card could be flawed which is confusing the software into being unsure of it's total capacity.
The only exploit you could do is try using the 2TB formatting and showing people your super cool 2TB card (which would destroy files that were placed in non existent sectors). I don't recommend doing that, as it wastes the card.
I haven't really said anything that anyone else hasn't been talking about, but these seem to answer anything you may have been asking (since technically you never formed a full question). So I think your question was answered, you may have just not asked what you meant to.
Correct, but I do not belive the card is flawed. I agree with the rest though. And if my question dosent seem fully developed I appologise

my DHD is a killing SDCards machine... what to do?

ok guys im sick of this.
My Desire HD is killing all of my SDCards till now.
every once in a time (like 2 months, 3 months)
my DHD just kills the sdcard that is inserted..
I try to plug the SD to other devices but it shows it doesnt work and it is demaged..
So everytime i go and buy a new SDCard and everything is working fine for 2 3 months.
2 days ago my DHD killed another SDCard and im preety much sick of this.. i forget to backup like a moron and it freaks me out.
I will go and buy a new SDCard, but I just wanted to know how to fix it. how to prevent my DHD kill another SD Card..
Formatting really doesn't matter, its something with the system..
I have wondered if there any thing i can do? for example buy a new SDCARD reader suitable for my dhd and replace it with the one i have now or something?
is there anything like that or something?
My DHD killed like 4 SDCards till now..
Thanks.
Well what brand SD cards are you using?
Also do you have any apps that constantly write to SD? Reason being is that flash memory has a limited amount of reads and writes. If you have some random app that is using your SD as its sandbox then that would explain it.
As for the brand, better brands tend to make cards that last longer.
Finally by formatting, I assume your referring to formatting the card after it dies, to see if it will still work. If not try that.
