My phone suffered mildly from the lines and blobs issue, but it hadn't really bothered me much.
After flashing Faux's 010u Kernel, which contains various display and driver updates from the latest Skyrocket release, my screen looks fantastic! The lines have faded drastically, and the color reproduction and auto-brightness both look closer to the Sprint version.
Since my phone wasnt affected as badly as others' I've seen on here, I'm interested to hear if anyone else experienced similar results.
Best,
AP
gonna have to agree here, i thought it was just my imagination tho.
When I posted in the kernel thread asking if there were screen improvements from flashing it, Faux stated that Samsung basically did what Supercurio does with his voodoo screen hacks with their driver updates.
Yes this is why his kernel should be used in all roms although i am loving darkside too. But yea man his kernel definitely did some magic with dimming and color enhancements. If u go to his thread faux says it is like voodoo but by samsung.

10u is the ultimate version which has the gpu overclocked. Makes it smoother but also worse battery for some users. 10m is the non overclocked gpu version of his kernel.

when i read this i didn't really believe it, but the lines are do seem harder to see now. even if you use screen filter it's not so obvious anymore. screen still has a somewhat greenish tinge when filtered on the lowest settings, but still much improved.
faux 10m.
yeah the faux's new 10u kernel fixed these issues minimally for me as well. I am thinking this hasn't anything to do with defective screens (trust me I know when I see a hardware defect--- came from a mt4g and half those early production units had a bad screen) but rather the GPU drivers. Even if it does turn out to be a defective hardware fault how can I go about getting a warranty exchange? I bought this phone off of craiglist-- BNIB basically. not sure if it was stolen or not since it was rather cheap.
also try *#0*# to run various tests- this should work on custom roms as well. Do the green- red and blue screen tests and see if you guys get any improvements after flashing the faux 10u kernel? I would test it but I don't have much time on my hands.
After kernel flash I still see lines on the Green red and white, but not on the blue or the black. What gives?
Please post your findings so I can investigate this further.

It definitely made sense to me. I mean if I charge my phone to full before I go to sleep and I have my 2 email accounts set to sync at maximum which I believe is 1 hour on stock email app then my Android OS is always going to be at the top until I actually start using the phone and if you are really using your phone then screen is always at the top of usage and if it was such a major battery drainer then when I woke up and my Android OS was at like 60% then I don't think my battery would look like this...

So are you in agreeance there is no bug and the percentages show just the way it should?
I do not believe there is a bug but people will argue there is so it is almost a waste of breath...If you click on Android OS you can actually see how much activity is uses. I am also waiting for someone to post a pic that has a high on screen time but still has a high percentage of Android OS.

Well, if its a bug (which it is acknowledged as and without a real fix) then its not something that's dinging my battery in any major way that's for sure. Edit..once I debloated my phone and got rid of the apps that run on their own, everything has been great here

I have been running Calks Rom 1.5a with Overstews ICS Theme. With this Rom and the Kernel that came with the Rom, I believe the kernel was the Rogue Kernel, I was having only 2% dedicated to the AOS. Two weeks ago I flashed the EG31 modem, which I feel I jumped the gun on that, but was still only running 2% for AOS. I flashed the EK02 kernel today and my AOS has been sitting at 14% and I really dont see any improvement in signal strength. Compared to some of the speed test I have seen in some of the forums, my data speeds seem really slow in comparison. Does anyone know if the jump from 2% to the 14% AOS I'm having will make that big of a difference in battery life? With my previous setup, I was able to run on a full charge for about 2 and a half days with moderate use.
I believe (and I may be wrong) that it was masked in the kernel more than it was an actual fix. Really your best bet is to re-calibrate your battery and give it a few battery cycles/days to settle in and then compare your results to previous setup

Any kernel patched up to .14 reports usage in a way that results in dramatically reduced usage attributed to AOS. Personally, even with the bug, the device is superb in the battery life department. If the ever truly quash this bug, it will leap to ridiculous.

Quick question regarding the Franco Kernel...
Today I flashed to the latest version along with AOKP - seemed to be a good mix till I went to make a call and realized any call I made/received dropped in a matter of 3 seconds lol...
Does that sound like a kernel issue or possibly the rom? I had enabled power saver so wasn't sure if that may have done something...
Are you on a cdma or GSM phone? I have this combo on cdma and I'm fine...

Yes, battery life is bad now but slowly improving.. I've posted several methods to help the bleeding battery issue... Keeping 4G up (If not using it) will make your battery disappear faster then a cupcake at a jenny craig convention. So here's some helpful things to make it a little bareable..
Juice defender- Use this app to manage data. I've got mine set Data off with screen off. It'll automatically kick it on when you put the screen on.
Notifications- Turn off Notification light, Limit notifications from App sycn (Facebook and such)
Sync times- Add a longer duration between syncs. do you need email to check every 15 min? It can be set to every 6 hours, ever 12 hours, or everyday, open app to sync at that moment. (not saying this is how your's is set)
Screen brightness- Turn off Auto bright, Set to a level where you can see it.
GTalk- This is an auto sign in program, Turn off, sign out.. disable whatever you prefer to do with this.
Screen time out- 15 Secs (or so) if your not using it.. it'll go off and save battery. (Works well with the dimness being lower)
Try these methods.. Your life will improve some.. (as always YMMV)

Nice smart ass response that truly shows your level of ignorance. The kernel used in both cm10 and aosp jb is built from source, both the Samsung released ff18 kernel source and open source bits to patch up the kernel to support jb. You fail at reading.

Read what the other guy said, don't think she/he was trying to be to much of a smartass. This what gets some of the noobs and other folks confused and asking about other kernels yea its built from source as you explained but its a different source other then the jb source that Samsung would to release. There's lots of confusing leading to the word built from source and have some folks thinking maybe its jb source which we haven't gotten yet and maybe that's why they wonder why the bad battery and start to asking about other kernels.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
The point is its not JB source for our phone. If we had a JB kernel source, we'd see a lot more kernels than just his. It takes a certain amount of skill to take ICS source and make it work with another OS version, and it takes time to work out all the issues.
I've run just about all the JB ROMs to date, but had to finally give in and go back to ICS for my daily because JB battery life just couldn't get me through the day with my normal usage pattern. It'll get there though. Just give it time.

Exactly!
"Samsung released ff18 kernel source and open source bits to patch up the kernel to support jb."
That is not considered "Samsung source"- I don't care how you slice it. That is Samsung ICS Source and patches from our Dev's to make JB work- not from Samsung. Besides that... your rude.
Jb battery life has been fine for me. I get about 2-2:30 hrs screen on time which typically includes playing music for about an hour each day, wifi or 3g on 24/7, along with 10-60 texts and a few quick phone calls. It's not as good as gingerbread but I would say it is better than early ics leaks, and maybe even better than ff18. As always ymmv. :good: BTW I'm running codename android with everything stock.

Perhaps you weren't aware, but "Samsung source" has sucked and sucks in the ff18 source release. It's incomplete, it doesn't boot if built as intended, and requires changes just to compile properly. Try actually learning and educating yourself instead of making lame arguments like this one.

If you are talking about this post... this is about Mutliboot (Allows you to temporarily reboot into a completely stock TW Rom to update PRL, Profile, and things like that) Once you reboot, it will restore your original rom. (Quite the handy tool)
If there is a true JB kernel developed, I stand corrected. But to my knowledge as of this morning, there isn't. (Devs feel free to chime in on this if you will)
No other JB kernels except for sbrissens, which technically is a custom kernel since there isn't a stock kernel for the et4g his had to be written from scratch on top of the ICS source

Not in my experience. It's not absolutely awful on the JB ROMs, but it's not equal to CM9 in my opinion. Also, there is no battery calibration on this phone, other than using it and letting the fuel gauge converge to accuracy.

Meh, battery life isn't really an issue... I have my phone tethered directly to a motorcycle battery in my backpack.. I can get atleast an hour and a half screen on time before it dies running JB.... But honestly, i'm always trying them to see how things go. But I use the typical conservation methods.. (Juice Defender(Data on screen on), Screen dim, 15 sec timeout, and all the other goodies to help make the juice last), If all else fails.. I do internet support for a cable company, i'm sitting at a computer all day so i've got power to recharge if needed LOL..

Hey guys, first post here but been lurking for months.
I'm running Liquidsmooth 2.10 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2346973)
It's great and all but the battery life isn't satisfying me because I'm used to using KT747's kernel.
I'm not too experienced with Androids so if there's a better way to get more battery life (kernel wise) let me know, but I tried installing the kernel for Jellybean 4.3 and it made my startup screen go from blue to orange and the screen itself is all green with the text magnified tenfold.
As of right now I'm running it with the default kernel it came with but I don't feel like experimenting again just to spend another 45 minutes getting all my apps and everything back.
What did I do wrong?
Thanks in advance.

I've tried DKP before, but it cause the same thing you described, it zoomed to only the upper right hand corner with messed up colors. AS always, make a Nandroid and read the OP and any related comments thoroughly.

That's weird, what kernel comes with LS?

You need a kernel built around the same time as liquid smooth. Cm merged graphic driver updates that are not compatible with older ROMs

Instead I just decided to use the newest AOKP, KT747 works fine with it.
And @ Phoenix, yeah.
I found out that the newest kernels only work with the newest roms / updates.
If I'm wrong then it's something of that nature, but the liquidsmooth I was trying to use is almost a month old now.
No more problems, thanks for the help and suggestions though. :good:

Oh I think that whatever kernel you use has to be built same day or before the ROM was built, if it's not, there's not usually any issues, but in this case, it's best to abide by the rule.
