I was looking on ebay to see if the prices for the Atrix dropped and I found this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorola-At...ell_Phones&hash=item43ae2a51a1#ht_1726wt_1344
This is a great conditioned Atrix that is softbricked, I know this because in the picture & he lists that he can get it into fastboot mode by holding down some buttons... This is an easy fix for those who search and read... Good deal, should get it if you have the change...
I already have 2 atrixs so I don't need another... IM NOT THE ONE WHO IS SELLING THIS...
Thanks,
I bought it, i'll take a risk... seems like an easy fix
Np, now you can fix it and sell it for retail...
Maybe/maybe not I'll re-sell it; I want to try CM9 but I have my Atrix setup the way I want and dont feel like backing up and trying it. I'll try it on this one...
I got the phone yesterday and it was soft bricked. No os was found...
I unlocked the boot loader using fastboot OEM unlock and flashed recovery and it came to life. I flashed cm9 and works like a champ.

So you got it for 120$? That's an epic deal. Congratz.
However, with ebay it is a dangerous game sometimes. I looked through the Atrix phones listed as "for parts" yesterday. There was one which shows "Failed to boot" message and shuts off immiediately <-- that's a hard brick. But the seller listed it as an "easy software fix".
Another one was also described as easy fix with the "failed to start modem" message, which is a sign of hardware water damage.
So yeah, deal hunting is fun, but precautions should be taken first.

And indeed its risk to buy off eBay...

Hi,
About 1,5 months ago I received my first Android phone, a Galaxy Nexus.
I have unlocked the bootloader, rooted it en eventually installed Clockwork Mod Recovery following guides on this excellent forum! Everything went perfectly and it ran very smoothly in that state for about half a month up until yesterday.
I didn't have any custom roms installed, so I received the notification for the Android 4.0.2 update, it failed because of Clockwork Mod which I later found out. So I set about to manually install it, I downloaded the image from the google site and placed it in my home directory on my Phone, when I then wanted to restart to start in recovery mode it didn't do anything.
I tried getting the battery out and in, sim card out and in, recharging it,...
It does nothing, not even a small vibration signaling the phone is trying to start.
Anyone has any ideas to fix it, or might it be possible to send it back to the shop ( even though it is rooted etc. ?)
Thanks in advance,
Exatto
You need to get the stock images and flash using Odin or the ADB/Fastboot method. After which the phone will return to stock. Then you can root and do what you like. Lots of guieds on here on how to do it. Good luck.
---------- Post added at 05:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:26 PM ----------
By the way if you send back a rooted phone they will tell you to take a jump. Rooting voids the warranty.
No response at all? A real brick?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Can you get into download mode? If you can you can use any of the methods above to sort it.
I don't think there is a real brick. There are restore images. Extremely hard to brick a nexus...borderline impossible.
Yeah I have never heard of a "real" bricked Nexus.

No, that's the point. I can't get in any modes. It does't react at all. I think it might be a hardware fault, a friend suggested it might be due to a short circuit battery.
I just followed this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419170) to update, using method 1, having clockwork mod installed. And when I shut it down to restart in recovery mode it suddenly stopped reacting. I have had this before, but then taking the battery in and out fixed everything. Now it doesn't anymore.
Cool, well if removing the battery for a few minutes doesnt sort it then you should be able to return it because the carrier won't be able to tell if it is rooted if they can't turn it on.
When you charge it do you get the charging battery icon when you press the power button?

But I can't do anything with a restore image when I can't even get it started, let alone be recognized by my computer?
P.S.: Sorry for the late reply, but apparently I still have to wait 5 minutes in between posts.
Can you see the charging battery icon when the phone is off and plugged into the wall?

No, not a charging sign. I hope I can return it, but what if the battery is faulty and they just pop a new one in and then see that it is rooted?
Thanks for the help.
Could well be a dead battery dude, if you have a mate with a Nexus you could try yourself first. I know what you mean about the guy in the shop seeing the unlocked bootloader if he tried a different battery but you may be lucky in that he might not know what it is or you could just grab the phone and leg it ha ha
I hope it gets sorted and be sure to post here what happens. Take it easy.

As promised the followup:
Luckily they didn't notice my GN was rooted etc. as today I received a brand new one after I sent the broken one in to an official Samsung repair center
I did test some things before I sent it in though, a friend just bought a new one and we tested if my battery worked in his phone (it didn't) and we tested his working battery in my phone (it didn't work either), so something was definitely very screwed up.
Haven't got any idea of what went wrong eventually as the repair service didn't offer any details, although I am off course glad I got a brand new one.
So I recently ****ed my gnex 6 ways from sunday. Im talkin no screen no dl mode no fastboot. NOTHIN, ZILTCH. When plugged into comp i get the noise over and over again as if im removing and repluggin the cord repeatedly. sometimes after 20 minutes of that it will finally show up in device manager as unknown device or OMAP440. but thats rarely and it dont stay long. Im no noob and this seems a clear cut case of a Hard Brick. But I beg of you, PLease prove me wrong. Thanks all.
Got the jig. Yup, this thing is ****ed. Probly gna send it to the big S jus to see what they gotta say. Thanks to all those who helped.
I'm pretty sure there is a usb jig that will force odin mode. If that doesn't work I think you'd be screwed. Here's a video on how to make your own jig. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKRrTZayRxU
Or you can buy one already made for $5.50 US at http://usbjig.com/
What were you flashing when this happened?
a little info on how this happened can help.
Are you unlocked and rooted?
Did you drop the phone?
If you call the phone, does it ring?
In other words, is it your screen that's broken? I recently returned a rooted HTC thunderbolt with a non functioning screen back to stock to take advantage of factory warranty.
Sorry to be vauge. to clear things up;
No, Never Dropped, still looks brand new. Definately not the screen. This things a brick. And I was running a linux installer last i'd seen the phone but i had left it unattended for probably 15 mins or so. Also, heard the jig dont work on these, can anyone elaborate? Thanks

and this is why we can't have nice things....
this is one of the reasons why phone companies are so against unlocking bootloaders. people screw up their rooted, unlocked phones and then send it back to vzw or the manufacturer to cover the bill.
if you're going to root your phone and mod it, then man up and accept the consequences when you derp it.
not saying the op isn't going to accept full responsibility, but your advice is what's wrong w/ some in this rooted community.
Since the linux installer is only using chroot then one would think that it is simply adding its distro to the system partition then chrooting to start. How this bricked you is puzzling. There's no flashing operation here...
I'm guessing hardware failure. The coincidence is hard to ignore though. However, you weren't there when it actually died so who knows what happened.
i was flashing stock ICS 4.0.4 with Odin and then half way through an error came up. so i removed closed Odin from the PC and tried redoing it. and then it was saying analyzing files.
and so i closed it again and restarted the phone. and what came on the screen was a sign, with a phone dots an exclamation mark dots and a monitor. i think thats when the phones bricked rite? any help?

not bricked at all mine did it
happened to me do you have version 1.85 of odin and do you have a propper version of 4.0.4
odin 1.85 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394051&highlight=odin+stock
the 4.0.4 version i used here http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html
i had the same thing on my screen and it all worked fine the second time round.. i tried for a total of 8 hours doing different things but this worked with the latest odin.
make sure you load via the pda Make sure in the ODIN program "Re-Partition", "Phone EFS Clear", and "Phone Bootloader Update" are NOT checked.
hope that works. im a total novice but worked a dream

Sorry your post is so retarded I have to double reply.
Do you really think the tiny amount of repairs coming from botched hacks is the reason most companies are locking bootloaders? Like really..
My advice is what's wrong? Hmm..
Maybe the OP should "man up" and go buy a new handset instead of Samsung hiring some monkey for $12 an hour to hook his phone up to a jig.

My phone is stuck in bootloop, and My Volume down button does not work, so im unable to remove the battery and boot it into CWM for a restore..
is there anyway to get into cwm without volume down or booting into the os as im stuck in bootloop?
Using adb maybe although I don't know if you would be able to.
Try adb devices in command prompt with the phone connected to the computer.
If it shows up then type adb reboot recovery and it'll boot into recovery but since you are in a bootloop that may not work.
yeah it doesn't boot into the os so my pc won't recognize it
i could fix this if my freaking volume down button would work?? does anyone thing this will be covered under my samsung 1 yr manufacturers warranty??? has anyone delt with them on something like this??
Any way you can persuade the volume button to work?
Well I have never had dealings with them so really can answer that question bit you could tell them you had a defective volume button and corrupted memory.
I think that is kinda common for these, it would be a good excuse for the bootloop.
thing is it's sporting the Franco kernel boot animation
any tricks for making this button work????
i've tried to poke inside with a screw driver, it's not obstructed at all it's just not responding..
I had the same problem. You need to put your phone into stock and start over again. It's pain and time consuming but it's better than having a paper weight. Remember our phone is hard to brick so have that positive note and for the future reference what not to do. Cheers!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Ah I see...
Hmmmm, the only way is to play around with it, press it down and move it around. Push it left and right" that kinda thing. Trial and error.
Maybe before you bring it to the shop let the battery go completely dead so they don't see the boot animation.

So basically because i can't reset the flash counter on the phone there's no way i can send it in the state that it's in as i've flashed several roms on it, i ordered one of those usb jigs off of ebay to hopefully put it into odin mode so i can restore it..

exactly some phones will boot into download mode or boot looping and possibly not hard bricked and recoverable thru dwnld or recovery. this is a situation that has been happening on many sg3's called sudden death. happens on a lot of s3's mostly 16 gig. your phone will not boot in any way BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH!. if your is out or you dont want to wait for 14 days for a fix, this guy, as well as others JTAG your system back up with partitions, and reloads you latest OTA or rom basically to sock and you are back in business. my old backups even returned me normal after using odin to get back to root...it is very simple to also flash the wrong rom on your device which also causes a complete shutdown where even a JIG wont bring it into download mode. Point is not spending 60$. 1004 in total of fast fix and return. this guy is straight up and does an incredible job...nik

I dunno, there's a "happy story" from a guy who used MobileTechVideos posted recently, too. I've heard several people on here who have been happy with this dude on eBay so I wouldn't discount it just for that. Anyone who is going to use any JTAG service should do their research - but if it's true that JTAG can "cure" the sudden death problem that would be pretty great - and it doesn't seem completely unbelievable to me so it would be a hypothesis worth investigating, I think.

I have used Mobiletechvideos.com on my S3 when I flashed an international ROM to my T-999. He does great work. I think it was only 5-7 days from shipping it off to when I got it back and I used standard shipping. I also ordered a JIG from him just in case I do a number on myself again. haha.

I have a question though. When I sent my T-999 in, I also ordered a JIG just in case I brick it again. I read somewhere that if you use the JIG to get into download mode and then pull out the JIG, that it will reset your flash counter. Anyone know if that is correct?

I have a question though. When I sent my T-999 in, I also ordered a JIG just in case I brick it again. I read somewhere that if you use the JIG to get into download mode and then pull out the JIG, that it will reset your flash counter. Anyone know if that is correct?

supposedly correct or stated on several post or web pages. mainly you need that to get a bticked phone back into dwnld mode when there is no other option, or you cant use dwn key, home, and pwr . this allow you to be in mode to use Odin to reflash stock or current rome. very handy tool. just google and find out the benefits. have a great day guys
Any links on eBay for $1.99, I'm finding it for $29.99.

Never mind I see them all but my concern is that jigs are not meant for hard brick as stating in the description of the item. If can't get the screen to come on the jig will not help. If I can get the screen to come on might be able to Odin myself, so what's the point of the jig.

Hello,
Recently my Nexus 7 (2013) battery ran out because I forgot to charge it. Since then, it won't boot back into Android when it's turned on - all I get is the black screen with "Google" written on it. I have searched all over the internet for the past few days, but I'm unable to find a solution. I'm hoping that someone here can help me, because the tablet's warranty has expired and I'm completely out of ideas. Here are the things I've tried or noticed:
I can't boot into Android. The tablet gets stuck on the black screen with "Google" written on it.
I can access the bootloader and interact with the tablet via fastboot.
The bootloader is locked. Trying to unlock it via fastboot oem unlock displays the "Unlock bootloader?" screen on the tablet. After I select "Yes", the command line output on the computer shows the following output, but doesn't get any further:
Code:
...
(bootloader) Unlocking bootloader...
(bootloader) erasing userdata...
Trying to boot into recovery mode from the bootloader results in the tablet being stuck on that black screen with "Google" written on it.
I have removed the back cover from the tablet and reconnected every exposed connector. I couldn't take the battery out because I don't have the appropriate screwdriver. Doing this changed nothing.
Any help would be sincerely appreciated. At this point I'm worried that it is a hardware issue, but I'd like to exhaust all options before declaring it as such, as it would essentially mean the tablet is going in the garbage bin.
How long did you let it sit at "erasing userdata"?
I don't recall specifically on my N7 but I know when I unlocked the bootloader on my 2013 Moto X it seemed like an eternity, which was mostly because there is no progress indicator, it just said "erasing userdata" and sat there for a while. Probably like 5-10 minutes.

Well that is surely too long. Not sure what else to suggest. Someone else with more experience might able to help.. It sounds like your partitions may have been messed up somehow, which I have seen others post about recently with the updates. I'm not sure what causes this or if there are any fixes, but I know there are threads about people being stuck on the Google screen and having issues after the update to 5.0/.1/.2.

Hi,
i had exactly the same problem. I tried everything to fix it and no luck. I had to resort in sending it to Asus for repair. Unfortunately my warranty has expired. I just got a quote from them saying the motherboard has gone and it will cost me £250 to repair!!!!! I almost fell off my chair. A brand new 32gb tablet will cost be around £180. This is surely a joke? I will be giving them a call tomorrow to complain!
I hope yours is still under warranty because it is most likely your motherboard that has gone. I've read a few others having the same issue and its been the motherboard.

Thank you for your response.
I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you. I've been reading around and guessed it's probably a hardware problem based on other people's similar experiences. Unfortunately my tablet is out of warranty as well, and I'm definitely not going to spend more on the repairs than I would on a brand new tablet. I regret purchasing the tablet in the first place, I really expected it to last longer than a year.
If you can, please let me know what ASUS says about this, if you intend to call them. They don't have a subsidiary in my country, but if you get lucky, I might press my chances as well and perhaps I can get this repaired for a reasonable price.
Mine has lasted 5 years more but my Nexus 7 has ended its days the same way as yours. Stuck at google when switched on, and stuck at bootloader when triying to flash it.
Time to go, it seems.
