Weird bug in Market installations - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having a problem with Market installations. When I start download an app from Market...ok ok, from Google Play , in notification bar, there'll be two icons after the download has completed, the one that says app is installed(if I click it, it'll take me to the app), and the other one that says application is being installed(that should be gone after it's downloaded and it should only show the "application has been installed" button).
Why is that happening? Why won't the other icon disappear?
The most interesting thing is, that it is not kernel or rom relative problem, it happens in every single rom/kernel.
This is not a "major bug", but still annoying.

I have that too and thought it was maybe an ics issue, but when I restored a gb rom it was still there. I had it on the previous market too though, and presumed it was because I use Link2SD as after I download an app it can take a few secs to move the data to the sd and fully install.

Market apps don't install

The market will download the programs, but the green download bar will be full, but it always hangs.
I have to cancel the download about 8 times, before it will finally install.
Anyone know whats causing this? It happens on all apps.
Does the download just hang or does it give you an error like "installation unsuccessful"?
If it's the latter then try unmounting the SD card and then installing/updating.
Also, you might want to try clearing the market app's cache in the app manager.
Also, sometimes I'll download an app and then go do something else while it downloads (like check gmail) and then when I go back to the market it'll look like it's frozen as a partial download but actually installs anyway.
I have had the same problem, i think its on the market side so u might try being patient and give it a shot later, worked for me

i get a similar problem. market will show me there are updates for my apps, but most of them will end up with "installation unsuccessful"...if i'm correct ALL of those have been moved to the SD card using app2sd...does that have something to do with it?
its getting very frustrating to not be able to update my programs without having to move them from sd to phone, update, then move back to sd...
Google maps gave me problems but it wasnt on sd

What Rom are you guys using?
I'm using Fresh 3.3 and I'm having similar problems.....but sometimes it works fine.
I was using stock at the time, i remember now i cleared market cache and reboot and it hasnt happened since

I wiped dalvik cache and it solved all my market download problems (wiping market cache didn't do anything).

[Q]CM7 apps Force Close

I have used CM7 on my Incredible for a while now and have had to constantly wipe and reinstall every week or so. When i install, the ROM runs perfectly, with all my apps working and everything. After a few days though, most of my apps force close whenever I open them. Namely, messaging, Gmail, and browser force close, along with my market installed apps.
This has happened to me many times now and I can't figure out how to fix this issue. I have changed different options when installing the ROM and tried Fix Permissions in Rom Manager and nothing fixes it .
My friend's phone as well as my dad's have had this same issue on CM7 as well. Any help would be greatly aprreciated!

Any ideas?
Check and make sure your data/data partition isn't full. If it is, grab a cache cleaner from the market to free up some space.
This actually happened to me earlier tonight.
Had to reinstall to get through the night til I got back home, but I may need to go back to another ROM if this keeps up. Glad to know I'm not the only one though.

That's true, didn't think about that. Will I have to keep doing that more and more if i install more apps though?
This happens to me and all my friends phones with the cm7 final. They keep telling me its user error. We all have to clean wipe about once a week because of force closes. I finally switched it redemption rom

If what Smabbage said is true then hopefully that'd make sense. That way when you consistently install the nightlies, there is no way for the data partition to fill up all the way. Good to know. thanks!
I've been fighting this exact same problem. The only way I can keep it from happening is to do a full wipe and let the Android Market reinstall most of the apps. Then I can use titanium to bring back the missing apps and system settings.
Here's the things I've tried, with no success:
Wipe Cache / Wipe Dalvik Cache
Fix Permissions
Nandroid Backup then Restore (ok so I didn't expect that to do much)
Uninstalling apps, moving apps to SD (using the Android method, not Apps2SD)
Another interesting thing is that I run Watchdog, but instead of force closing, it pops up a message saying "Disk IO Error in Watchdog". That makes me wonder if some partition (Cache, data, I dunno) is out of space or worse, there are physical problems with the internal memory of my Incredible.
I have one question for everyone - How do I see how much space is available on each partition? I mean, I can go to the Android settings and see App Data storage left or SD card space left, but is there an app or tool I can see that will show me each partition with space left?

Had exactly same issue (even same Watchdog error) and Smabbage's answer was spot-on.
To check, open terminal emulator (gives you shell prompt) and do "df -k" - this will list all filesystems and, among other info, how full they are. My "/data/data" partition was full. Cleaned up some cache's and my phone is back in action.
Seems like a lot of games (and Netflix) fill the /data/data partition. Wonder if it is possible to make it larger at the expense of built in memory?
In any case, may be a good add-on to CM to monitor space in /data/data and give a reasonable warning when you close to running out.
I have been using CM7 for a while now and the apps that force close, are usually tied to the SD card. Try moving them to internal and see if it helps.
same here..
I use galnet miui (cm base)
after a few weeks, it shows 'disk io eror in watchdog'
and many programs fc.
never had this problem before.
someone can help me?
how can I fix this..
I know this is an old thread, but ive been searching around to see if other people have this problem.
i have found a temporary solution. open Root Explorer and go to /cache/dalvik-cache....use multi-select to select all items and then delete. reboot (IT WILL TAKE A WHILE TO REBOOT, IT IS REBUILDING, IT CAN TAKE UP TO 15MIN DONT PANIC) yes, this is in fact "wiping dalvik-cache" but ive gotten much better results doing it manually than through CWM.
this will calm your phone down at least for a few days with no force closes/service interruption, but you will have to do it again..........and again, and again. its better than having to do a full wipe though, obviously. hope this helps anyone who is still having this problem.

[Q] Problems downloading some apps on CM7

I recently upgraded to CM7. I love this version of Cyanogen but I have one problem with downloading several apps from the market. For example Firefox. When I want to download this app, I get the download icon in the top left corner for about 0.5 seconds.
I wiped my phone before
Offcourse I searched the interweb for a solution, but wiping market cache and logging in to Google Talk didn't help. Anyone know about this issue? I can't stand it that I cannot download apps from the market.
No one knows any solution?
Reinstalling the Market sometimes resolves the issue
Google for market.apk
I tried to install the market APK file but my phone tells me that the app isn't installed.
Install s2e from the market. Open it, select download cache and confirm the operation. The device will reboot and afterward you will be fine

Hi I'm new to XDA and had the problem mentioned above. Also, some apps such as Angry Birds (the horror!) will not appear in the market, however Angry Birds Rio does. Even after trying your method of s2e the problem still occurs. The when trying to download the Rio version, it pops up with "Starting Download /-/-/-/-/-/-/-/" for 1 second, then goes away again.
On the desktop market it says "Angry Birds is not available to your device because of content filters" or something-does this mean anything to you?
(It's not just Angry Birds, it's other applications too, but I can't remember which other ones)
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Try formatting and partitioning your SD card using ROM manager (it's built into the CM7 ROM)
Worked for me!

Ooh it worked! Thank you!
Hi, me again.
I was fine, and the problem has just come back, same scenario before (except all apps appear in the market), however more apps do that 0.5 "Starting Download /-/-/-/-/-/-/ " thing again.
I tried formatting the SD card, and re-partitioning, although when I press "format sd card" it reboots in recovery and says "installation unsuccessful" -then there is no option for partition in recovery.
I am completely bewildered and would appreciate any help (again!)
Thank you in advance!
(same Desire, CM7, 3(UK), haven't changed a thing since last time)

Install S2E from the App Market, open the app and check move download/cache to SD card.
Reboot your Desire and try downloading your apps again!

About Notification bar: is this a bug?

Hi guys, since I downloaded several wallpapers via chrome yesterday, I noticed that no matter how many times I cleared the "download complete" notifications, they would still appear again. Even just after I rebooted the device; and moreover, I also cleared the data of "download" and "chrome", they still appears anyhow!
Anyone has any idea what the problem is? Thanks in advanced.

I may just find the solution: I should clear the data of "download manager", not the "download". It seems ok now.

or you could just clear notifications and it will clear that
I had this same problem twice, but thought it was bug of ROM and installed another one :silly:
i had the same problem on 4.2. force stop and clear data of download manager in all apps did the job until i dloaded more files. turns out it was because i frooze download manager from starting up in system tuner app. i allowed it to start and problem was fixed.
however, touching the dloaded file from the notification bar does nothing. going into the download app and selecting the file leads me to ":/downloads/all_downloads does not exist" error. you actually have to go into root explorer or your file manager to open the file.
i do not like 4.2, at all. it's buggy as hell. i about to restore my 4.1.2 rom.

[Q] Programs keep disappearing / corrupting

Hi!
I bought a used HTC Desire. The person selling it had rooted the phone, installed a new ROM (miui, as far as I can tell, since there's at least the miui camera. He said he had wanted an ICS rom) and the phone is using the SD card for increasing its memory. Titanium Backup, LauncherPro, AC!D SoundMOD, Dolby Mobile, ES File Explorer, Firewall, Fancy Widgets, Pimp My Rom, QuickPic, SuperSU, two instances of Superuser, Task Manager and Theme Manager have been installed. LauncherPRO is used as the "desktop environment".
Some things from the "About Phone" dialogue:
Model number: HTC Desire
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version: 2.6.38.8-cayniarb-ics-stock-022612-00844-ge004de8
Build number marius.a v.2.5(Temporary version)
The problem is, reboots keep causing programs to disappear or get corrupt. There are several ways in which this happens:
* Some programs launch, but don't show anything. For example Firefox ends up showing only a white screen with some basic OS-wide UI elements visible.
* Most programs simply say "Unfortunately, <programname> has stopped", where <programname> of course varies according to program.
* Some programs launch for a while, but fall to the "unfortunately, <foo> has stopped" after a second or a minute.
* Some programs completely disappear, leaving at best a picture of a green robot on the home screen. Touching the picture with my finger, I get: "Could not launch the requested activity."
* There is one program still working flawlessly: Andropas, a PT route planner for my city and Maverick, a GPS/maps program.
Also the Play store is now broken, although it survived many earlier program mass deaths.
I've fixed Firefox several times by uninstalling it using ES File Explorer and then digging it from the Downloads folder (I've installed a beta from an .apk file) and installing it again.
A reboot doesn't always break programs: My previous two reboots left FF intact. I once rebooted choosing Reboot from the menu you get by pulling the panel on the upper side of the screen downwards and then choosing TOGGLES and once choosing Shutdown from the same menu, waiting for the phone to shut down and then starting it again.
I am therefore not completely sure if the problem is reboot-related, but it has by now only appeared when I've rebooted my phone.
For adjusting yourself: This is my first Android phone, but I would call myself generally tech savvy and am able to grasp new OSes very quickly. A power user for sure, but not a developer on any platform whatsoever.
So... Any idea of what I should fix in order to get the phone functioning correctly?
If I have to go for installing another ROM, is there something about using the SD Card as memory extension that I should take into account in order not to brick my phone?
You have an old version of the Marius.a ICS Rom, and it has bugs. You should flash the newest one.
If that doesn't solve it, then repartition your sd-card. Check the guide in my sig.
