Market apps don't install - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The market will download the programs, but the green download bar will be full, but it always hangs.
I have to cancel the download about 8 times, before it will finally install.
Anyone know whats causing this? It happens on all apps.

Does the download just hang or does it give you an error like "installation unsuccessful"?
If it's the latter then try unmounting the SD card and then installing/updating.
Also, you might want to try clearing the market app's cache in the app manager.
Also, sometimes I'll download an app and then go do something else while it downloads (like check gmail) and then when I go back to the market it'll look like it's frozen as a partial download but actually installs anyway.

I have had the same problem, i think its on the market side so u might try being patient and give it a shot later, worked for me

i get a similar problem. market will show me there are updates for my apps, but most of them will end up with "installation unsuccessful"...if i'm correct ALL of those have been moved to the SD card using app2sd...does that have something to do with it?
its getting very frustrating to not be able to update my programs without having to move them from sd to phone, update, then move back to sd...

Google maps gave me problems but it wasnt on sd

What Rom are you guys using?
I'm using Fresh 3.3 and I'm having similar problems.....but sometimes it works fine.

I was using stock at the time, i remember now i cleared market cache and reboot and it hasnt happened since

I wiped dalvik cache and it solved all my market download problems (wiping market cache didn't do anything).

[Q] "UIDs are inconsistent", most apps are FC'ing -> Can't Download from Market
So yesterday I ran your run-of-the-mill market search for updates, "update all", phone back in pocket while downloading.. when I pull it out, it's frozen up completely. I leave it for half an hour before pulling the battery, but on booting, the updates start again, and sure enough before long the damn thing freezes up. I try this again a couple of times before clearing all data of the Market and Download Manager apps. Woohoo, seems to prevent the downloads automatically starting, and thus in the short term my phone works. I'll sort out the problem app in the morning (ROM Manager seems to want to go to 4.x from 3.0.2.4, and it's by far the most system-nosy app on the update list, so I'm eyeing it with suspicion).
Morning comes, quick check on facebook and xda in the morning, seems fine. Phone in pocket. Next time I take it out, the bastard's frozen and needs a battery pull again. Swearing a bit by now, I see with some anxiety that when it finally boots, it's throwing something about "UIDs are inconsistent. You should wipe /data." Ohhh dear. Interestingly (and adding to my stress levels), it seems to have started the Sense launcher instead of Launcher Pro, and I'm getting "Swype has FC'd" errors every half a minute or so, on top of the fifteen or so FC messages for various apps after dismissing the UID error. Thank god for the hardware keyboard.
Having a look around on the net, there's a few references to a file called 'uiderrors.txt'. I've taken a look in this, and it seems to have every single app (i.e. everything listed in the All tab in Manage Applications) listed with a mismatched UID.
Any ideas? I suppose the next step is formatting the SD card, but I was wondering if anyone knows what's actually gone wrong here before I start down the path of blindly resetting things in the hope that something will work.

Hello... Okay first thing is wipe everything. Then reflash the Rom. If that doesn't work download a different Rom and redownload the Rom you were using. After you flash back try to fix permission. Don't format your SD card yet, let's do that if the wiping and reflashing doesn't work.

Sorry double post.
Thanks for the reply. I first formatted /data with CWM; on rebooting everything was nice and factory-like, but for the fact that nothing could install from market. After trying various fiddling around to make it work, I gave up and re-flashed Virtuous 1.02 (clearing cache and /data) - but still I can't get market installations to work. It eveidently worked for a while, because this time it managed to automatically re-install most apps from my Google account, but now I get "download was unsuccesful" for everything; paid and free. I've tried downloading on both wifi and 3G, uninstalling market upgrades, clearing cache and data for Market, Market Updater, and Download Manager, using ROM Manager to fix permissions, renaming /sdcard/.android_secure, unmouting SD card completely, and rebooting after each of these steps (except the SD card unmount obviously). I only have my primary Google account set up at the moment to try and eliminate any issues with my secondary account (which is a Google Apps email address). Now I'm at a bit of a loss. Does the download manager keep a log of the actual errors encountered?

Well try to download a different rom and flash it, try to download something not sense. I had that annoying issue before... Backup everything on your sd card and format it using clock work or go on the setting and format the sdcard there.

Why would formatting the SD card work if downloading fails even if the card is unmounted? Thanks for the reply though

Because sometimes the sd card can be corrupted and when you download stuff from the android market you will get an unsuccessful or your app says its downloading but never installs. When you restore the sdcard to its original factory it should work again. Well thats just me i guess. but i hope everything goes well my friend

i am having the same problem, i am about to lose my mind.
same issue here cant install anything on any rom
I just ran into this issue today. Anyone know if formatting the sd card actually worked? Backing up 7 gigs of whatever is on my phone is just gonna take too long. I don't wanna do it unless I really have to.
I've wiped multiple times and tried several roms, and I've even checked the rils on my radio and fixed permissions. The whole 9 yards.
Edit:i give up ._. im gonna try formatting it. are any folders on the sd card necessary to keep in order for the phone to function or keep it's root? if not, im only going to keep my music and clockworkmod folders.
had same problem, but a full wipe and clean install helped.

[Q] Problems downloading some apps on CM7

I recently upgraded to CM7. I love this version of Cyanogen but I have one problem with downloading several apps from the market. For example Firefox. When I want to download this app, I get the download icon in the top left corner for about 0.5 seconds.
I wiped my phone before
Offcourse I searched the interweb for a solution, but wiping market cache and logging in to Google Talk didn't help. Anyone know about this issue? I can't stand it that I cannot download apps from the market.
No one knows any solution?
Reinstalling the Market sometimes resolves the issue
Google for market.apk
I tried to install the market APK file but my phone tells me that the app isn't installed.
Install s2e from the market. Open it, select download cache and confirm the operation. The device will reboot and afterward you will be fine

Hi I'm new to XDA and had the problem mentioned above. Also, some apps such as Angry Birds (the horror!) will not appear in the market, however Angry Birds Rio does. Even after trying your method of s2e the problem still occurs. The when trying to download the Rio version, it pops up with "Starting Download /-/-/-/-/-/-/-/" for 1 second, then goes away again.
On the desktop market it says "Angry Birds is not available to your device because of content filters" or something-does this mean anything to you?
(It's not just Angry Birds, it's other applications too, but I can't remember which other ones)
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
HTC Desire, CM7, 3(UK).
Try formatting and partitioning your SD card using ROM manager (it's built into the CM7 ROM)
Worked for me!

Ooh it worked! Thank you!
Hi, me again.
I was fine, and the problem has just come back, same scenario before (except all apps appear in the market), however more apps do that 0.5 "Starting Download /-/-/-/-/-/-/ " thing again.
I tried formatting the SD card, and re-partitioning, although when I press "format sd card" it reboots in recovery and says "installation unsuccessful" -then there is no option for partition in recovery.
I am completely bewildered and would appreciate any help (again!)
Thank you in advance!
(same Desire, CM7, 3(UK), haven't changed a thing since last time)

Install S2E from the App Market, open the app and check move download/cache to SD card.
Reboot your Desire and try downloading your apps again!

[Q] Unable to install Apps from market

I am unable to install apps from the market. I can access the market and select the apps but all I get is starting downloads which doesn't change even if I leave for hours. I have WI-FI enabled and can access the web with no problems. Here is what I have tried already.
Clear Data in Downloader,
Clear Data and Cache in market
Factory reset
Flashed to CyanogenMod 7
and I still cannot download any apps.
If you have s-off you could try deleting the market.apk file and then reinstalling from a non market source? If you search xda I'm sure I remember several threads about this.
I had this problem a few times. Have you recently changed your Gmail (If you use Gmail) address from @googlemail to @gmail? This is what caused the problem for me and many others...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I never did work out what was causing the problem. I installed CyanogenMod 7 and all is work again.
Yea, sometimes just a reflash fixes the problem. I also found that, sometimes, the download would just finish but never actually install - almost as if the .apk downloaded but the Market Process just never actioned the new .apk to open, so it just sat in /cache until the next reboot, doing nothing.
log in to google talk...i think that should solve the issue.

Nothing showing up in My Apps in market

When I go into the market and go to the 'My Apps' section, nothing shows up. Not one app. This started happening a couple of days ago. I tried flashing the new market from the front page, but that didn't help either. Ti Backup's market doctor didn't work either.
Any ideas??
CM 7.1 stock kernel
Do you have multiple google accounts setup on your phone? If so, make sure that the market is set to the correct account. I had that happen before where for some reason the market kept switching to my other google account that I had setup. Goto: menu>accounts and check in the market.
I do have multiple accounts, and it is setup for the correct one. Still nothing. This has been going on since about 8pm CDT yesterday.
Anybody??
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
When I switch to a different account, it only shows rom manager and super user. My main account that should have all the apps shows nothing. Not one app.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Just to specify, you opened those accounts and checked? Because my apps switch between accounts for some reason.
Try wiping data for the Market, then download an app. After the app has installed, do you see it in "my apps"? Or still nothing?
Have you tried logging into the web Market and checking your apps there? I have multiple phones listed when I try to install an app from the website, even though I only have one - maybe there's something hinky there. Maybe pushing an app to your phone from the Market website will trigger something.
You can also try reflashing your rom.
Last idea that I have is to contact Google/Market support. I'm all out of ideas other than those. Hopefully they'll just show back up on their own.
Edit: Didn't see your last post, disregard the first paragraph.
You can also try linking tot he market, using titanium backup, though only available in the pro version.
I'm pretty much out of ideas. I tried going back to an older version of the market, and get the same thing. NOTHING showing for my apps. However, when i search the market for an app that I have installed, it shows as installed. No idea what's going on.

Have you tried installing an app? I've had the same problem, usually after the Market updates, and installing an app would bring all of the apps back to the list.
I know you said you tried the Market on the front page, but I'm not sure which one that is. Have you tried 3.3.1?

Yep. Installing an app from the market on the phone or web has no affect. The version I tried is 3.3.11 from the xda main page. This started happening before installing 3.3.11 though, and continues to happen on the new version.
Fixed it!
Settings > Storage > un-mount SD card
Wait a min
Mount SD card
EDIT: Nevermind that, only worked for like 10 min. Back to square 1

That would lead me to think you may have a problem with the SD card in one form or another. Strange stuff!
I'm no expert but I would copy everything from your sd card to your computer, reformat the sd card and copy everything back.

Have you tried wiping cache and dalvik cache? I know it's a dumb suggestion, but it's a lot quicker than formatting your SD card.
Sometimes simple stuff works. I've tried a million things to fix certain problems & it's always been the simple stuff that fixes it - wiping caches, fixing permissions, reflashing, or changing back to the default theme.

Tried formatting the card, no dice. Still only shows my apps when the card is un-mounted.
I'm going to try a different card to try to figure out if the problem is with the card itself or something else.
Anybody have suggestions for a new 16GB Card? I think mine's class 2 (might be 4, not sure), but the speed is TERRIBLE. I'm seeing average of 700 KB/s transferring from my PC to the phone.

[Q] Problem installing / uninstalling apps

Hi,
I tried to install Angry Birds Space last week, the download and installation seemed to complete normally, however once the installation was complete the app wasn't present and the memory the game uses (~24mb) was gone. I tried again the day after and the same thing happened. So I'm now down 48mb of RAM and my phone has started to freeze as there's only ~ 1mb of RAM free. I tried to uninstall the apps in the Manage Applications section but they don't seem to be listed there. Is there anyway I can find where these files are stored and delete them? I've already had to do a factory reset on my Desire twice in the 21 months I have it, I don't particularly want to do it again.
Thanks!
it happened to me too, are still with stock 2.3 (or 2.2) rom?
Best thing I could do was root and flash another rom, and it's really worthed
I'm still on 2.2. Did the same thing happen to you with Angry Birds Space or just in general?
No, I cannot rememeber what I was triyng to install (it was in dec!), and surely, that time, I had just applied the 2.3 offical update for desire (which btw is really awful).
Another thing you can do of course is uninstalling most of your app so that you sort of "clean" your memory, checking if any folder related to these app is really deleted from your sd (you can check in the system directory too, but I don't think you can delete folders without superuser permission). Then try to re-install everything.
Anyway, the suggestion is still the same: try a new rom
You probably just have to clear the cache of the market app, or you can use something like this to clear the cache of all apps
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.cache
If that doesn't work you can try to clear /data/local/download, that's where the market stores its downloads IIRC (don't know if you can clear it without root though)
Had the same problem. (Not with the same app as you have) but clearing the market cache did the trick for me
