[Q] Phone bootcycling randomly - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hi guys, I'm running this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485722 and I'm having one major issue....recurrent bootloops from no where. I'll often check my phone after it having been in my pocket, and it will be bootlooping. Or I'll be using an application and it will happen...phone freezes, starts bootlooping.
A battery pull fixes the loop, but it happens time and time again. I tried fixing permissions in CWM but that didn't fix it. I love the rom and want to use it, but its unreliability is such a flaw that I simply cannot.
Tl;dr: I like the rom, want to fix random bootloops. If this is not possible, do you have any suggestions on either similar roms, or straight up better ones with reliability?
Thanks

There's mikrunny over on the mikmik forums and there's magnolia here. I have uses mikrunny and I like it. Did you wipe everything before flashing your rom? Always do that...

Unexplained Random Reboots On Froyo

I honestly cannot find the cause of this. I Have tried everything in my power to try to fix this problem but absolutely nothing seems to work. When using my phone regularly (only on froyo) my phone will get very very hot and then start a reboot loop where it keeps rebooting and rebooting and rebooting. I have the official 2.2 update. Currently not rooted but S-OFF. I wanted to see if the root was causing any problems but im still getting the reboots. I Love my Inc. and i love the AMOLED screen. I want to be able to fix this problem so i dont get stuck with a ****ty replacement. PLEEZ HELP MEEZ
first thing would be to tell everyone what ROM you're on and if you're running setCPU.

I get this problem all of the time and I will tell you it has nothing to do with root. In fact, I'm not sure it is even a software issue. I have done multiple factory resets to try to troubleshoot the problem.
There is a thread at AndroidForums about it that I am currently running, but I can't link to it evidently. Look in the Support section for the Incredible.
How did you update? You're running a 2.xx radio, right?
If your problems are surviving a full wipe + RUU, the most likely culprit is that your hardware is failing.
It's a full wipe stock 2.2 and yes I have the newest radio
I was having the same issue with my phone on Stock 2.1, Stock 2.2, custom ROMs, etc. No software updates/configurations would make the random reboots stop. Anything that taxed the CPU seemed to cause my reboots. The easiest way to reproduce was to just start GPS'ing somewhere. Within minutes, the phone would go into a reboot loop that would usually only stop after a battery pull.
I took the phone into VZW while it was doing a reboot loop, showed it to them, and they put in a replacement order for me. The replacement (yes, it's a refurb) has been rock solid over a few days of heavy use. I read that if you had an AMOLED screen, then you're replacement will also be AMOLED.
tl;dr; - random reboots on stock ROM with no mods is probably a hardware failure. Go with a refurb.
Decided to go to VZW and order a replacement. They told me it would be a new phone and not a refurb but I don't trust them. Anyways it comes Thursday. I shall report back my friends. I still find this problem to be so odd

ACS Frozen 1.2 instability.

Hello xda community. I have a pretty large issue that affects my Epic. I recently had my Epic broken by blunt impact to the screen. So I sent it in and they sent a replacement in less than a day. I had Frozen 1.2 on my old Epic, and I had zero issues. But since I got my replacement, its been nothing but a hassle.
It doesnt get nearly as good battery life, it randomly reboots to the ACS logo, then endlessly cycles until the battery is pulled. Then when its turned back on, everything force closes, rendering the phone un-usable. The only remedy is to go to Clockwork and repair permissions. This will fix it for half the day.
Any advice?

The force closing is probably due to not having Journaling on.
I believe in the SRF 1.2 OP, there is a JournalingOn.zip, flash that (no wipes) and that should stop the force closing.
If it still is unstable for you, I recommend just reflashing the ROM.
Hope this helps.
Follow Acer's directions. If for some reason you still have an issue, then I'd recommend redownloading the rom.
You may also want to try a different kernel.

I had friend who had the same issue. He went back to SFR1.1.1
then installed ACS updater and flashed SFR 1.2. That fixed his problem. I did it that way too and have not had any issues. Calibrate battery after flashing.

That sort of worked. It made it take longer for things to get hosed over again. So I tried resetting it to stock then flashing EG22, but each time I flash EG22, it doesnt do anything. The version stays at 2.2.1. What am I doing wrong?
What did you flash that is EG22?

In order to better assist you, can you give us a step-by-step listing of everything you are doing? The files you are using with version #'s and your computer OS (with bit version).
I would recommend a full wipe of the phone, to remove any corrupted data
then do a clean install of SRF 1.2
then install the zip to turn on journaling
note: DO NOT use the reboot option until AFTER you have turned on journaling
What I did last night was returned it to factory stock EC05.
Im working with Windows 7 Home x64 on a Mac Pro, because for some reason neither Epic I've ever had will work with my custom built computer.
I flashed the EG22modem.bin with Odin 1.61. That didnt seem to do anything.
So later today, I am going to try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184134
The modem only changes the baseband..
regardless, imo it sounds like the problems you are having are due to restoring backups.. is that the case?
I installed this

and everything is hunky dory in the hood. Thanks for all the help

[Q] Does your phone randomly reboots?

I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone else..
However, this seems to be an ongoing issue with me and Android.
I've had the X10a and Nexus One .. both after only rooting it and using a different rom. While making phone calls and charging.. my phone would reboot..
Or playing a game on the phone.. it would reboot. I basically couldn't do anything without the phone rebooting. Which was sad.
Now with the Galaxy S2X.. This very same issue just happened to me moments ago.
Should I have never rooted it or changed the rom in the first place?
It was running very well before I decided to do so.. even while charging and talking on the phone.
Its funny because it just happened while charging.... I'm not even on the phone myself.
Does anyone seem to have any problem with this when using custom ROMs?
Because if this is true.. then I guess I'll flash the stock kernel and stuff back on the phone just to HOPE it doesn't occur then. :/
I've only experienced this after trying different roms and kernels. I flashed the stock kernel and the deodex rooted stock rom back at the same time and have had no such things happen again.
Imo, stock always runs better than any other rom. I always get better battery too.
My sensation was/is the same way, reboots, dropped signals and all until I put it back to stock rooted. Now it's fine.

Deebo took your bike too?
Yes I have had it more often on this phone though but it has been fixed by wiping the proper things first then flashing. If not then you might need to redownload the file.
If that doesnt work then you need to make sure that the kernel you are using is compatible with the rom
Also make sure that you are using the proper cpu software for the kernel.. Setcpu seems to work good for most but on Juggernauts new kernel they highly recommend Fauxclock .
I've run roms and kernels since we got root. Never had a random reboot or any other problem for that matter.

The only thing I'm worried about is if I continue to wipe and reinstall these customs ROM's that this issue could worsen, but you said that Fauxclock was highly recommended for Jug's Rom? I should try that out myself.
I've always done exactly what was written on the Instructions themselves.
But as for now. . I did a full wipe.. including my SD and the USB data and did a practice call for roughly an hour with me playing games and surfing. So far, there has been any problems. I hope this is perm!
I'd hate to waste another $500 phone D:
As far as the problem kernel with rom etc..
I am running Jug's rom straight. No different kernel's nothing.
I just had it happen to me last night. First time on this phone it has happened. It its stock, rooted. Happened while I was paying music in the car. My other phones with custom roms used to do it all the time.
I wonder if this has happened to anyone without ANY mods on their phone? =X
Fix Permissions
What exactly does that do?

Are you overclocking?
I am running jugs rom. Before I cleaned everything I did move a lot of apps to SD. Maybe that cause it but as for now I have no.problem. definitely report in the future should there be anymore.

Reviving old thread... I have a completely stock S2X running 4.0.3 and it randomly reboots or shuts itself off.
I'm trying to figure out if it's a wayward app or a hardware problem. Thinking of rooting and removing the bloatware.
I also saw that it could be a faulty power button, but it also happens by itself, sitting on a desk.

Have you tried updating to jellybean? Mu phone used to randomly reboot on 4.0.4 probably once a day, and hasn't done it since I did. I am on stock rom.

Hang and reboot

I've been having issues lately with my Inc. Seems like its on sense ROMs, even stock. My phone will just freeze then reboot. Timing varies. What app I'm using varies. Flashed several ROMs, with full wipes. Even formated everything and started over fresh with a stock ROM. Still having freezes and reboots. It's getting very frustrating. Does anyone have any ideas? Please.

freeze/reboot
Same here. Usually freezes and reboots at least once a day. Started probably about a week ago. Worked fine with the ROM/Kernel below for a good month prior. Only thing I can think of is I downloaded a bad update at some point.
Original Incredible
ROM - Wildstang 2.3.4
Kernel - 2.6.35.13 gingertiny-v2
Well,i has the same sort of problem...I took it back to the store to show the customer service reps and it never rebooted. About halfway home, it started rebooting again. Now I have to go back to the store.

Try installing incredicontrol and over-bolting a little bit. The chips in these phones like a little extra push in their "old age".

Yeah, I've been tinkering, and I'm seeing that my phone doesn't like the lower voltages in Tiny's kernels. I am running Jermaine's stock+ right know and things have stabilized. So yeah, must be voltages. Just threw me off because I've been running Tiny's since he started. I haven't had a reboot yet on stock+ kernel. Thank you everyone for your input.

Why does my phone always crash....

Every time I root my phone install custom ROMS or Kernels it will always Crash or reboot it self every time. I have tried unrooting the device several times I also tried Tried very popular ROMs like AOKP & CM and still they end up crashing within a day of use. I don't know what I am doing wrong here... I assumed it was the phone so I called Verizon to send me a replacement one but if anyone knows why this is only happening to me and not all the rest of my friends even Fiance then please let me know....
At the moment I am on stock ROM and Stock Kernel and still rebooting and crashing every time and its rooted so if anyone has any idea please let me know i am about to give me on this Phone....
P.S. If you have recommendations on ROMS or Kernels I can try besides Franco or Trinity that will be great, I also tried them and also the same problem
My gnex has recently started to do this as well. I think its an overheating issue because it'll "crash" when it feels really hot.
