I honestly cannot find the cause of this. I Have tried everything in my power to try to fix this problem but absolutely nothing seems to work. When using my phone regularly (only on froyo) my phone will get very very hot and then start a reboot loop where it keeps rebooting and rebooting and rebooting. I have the official 2.2 update. Currently not rooted but S-OFF. I wanted to see if the root was causing any problems but im still getting the reboots. I Love my Inc. and i love the AMOLED screen. I want to be able to fix this problem so i dont get stuck with a ****ty replacement. PLEEZ HELP MEEZ
first thing would be to tell everyone what ROM you're on and if you're running setCPU.

I get this problem all of the time and I will tell you it has nothing to do with root. In fact, I'm not sure it is even a software issue. I have done multiple factory resets to try to troubleshoot the problem.
There is a thread at AndroidForums about it that I am currently running, but I can't link to it evidently. Look in the Support section for the Incredible.
How did you update? You're running a 2.xx radio, right?
If your problems are surviving a full wipe + RUU, the most likely culprit is that your hardware is failing.
It's a full wipe stock 2.2 and yes I have the newest radio
I was having the same issue with my phone on Stock 2.1, Stock 2.2, custom ROMs, etc. No software updates/configurations would make the random reboots stop. Anything that taxed the CPU seemed to cause my reboots. The easiest way to reproduce was to just start GPS'ing somewhere. Within minutes, the phone would go into a reboot loop that would usually only stop after a battery pull.
I took the phone into VZW while it was doing a reboot loop, showed it to them, and they put in a replacement order for me. The replacement (yes, it's a refurb) has been rock solid over a few days of heavy use. I read that if you had an AMOLED screen, then you're replacement will also be AMOLED.
tl;dr; - random reboots on stock ROM with no mods is probably a hardware failure. Go with a refurb.
Decided to go to VZW and order a replacement. They told me it would be a new phone and not a refurb but I don't trust them. Anyways it comes Thursday. I shall report back my friends. I still find this problem to be so odd

I'm running CM 6.1 RC1 currently, but I have had random reboots ever since I started using CM 6.0 nightly. (stock kernel)
I havent been able to get any responses in the CM threads since there are so many people posting in there.
At first my reboots were only happening when I had my phone docked in the car and navigation/other video was playing. Now I seem to be getting more reboots with just web browsing or playing games.
I tried to wipe my phone and put only a few apps back on it, but that still doesnt seem to help.
Is there anyway I can figure out what is causing the reboots? Will a logcat show the problem?
Thanks
I've been having a similar issue after attempting to upgrade from fresh 3.2 to 3.3/3.4, especially when trying to connect to a wifi hotspot for the first time. This also happened to me a few months back with the cause of the issue being the gps. I was able to solve that issue by reverting back to unrooted stock and performing a master reset. I'm going to try this method again and see if it helps. I'll post whether it fixed it or not. Can you narrow down the cause of your reboots at all?
I thought originally it was app related. I flashed a new rom, and had almost no apps on there. Still had the same results. Only thing I can try is a complete wipe, and install no apps. I would need a few days where I dont need my phone to do that. That's why I was hoping there was a way to debug from logs.
I've been dealing with the same issue for about a week now. My phone started rebooting just a few times a day, but the last few days it reboots every few minutes during use (not sure if it reboots while not in use). I wiped a thousand times, flashed and reflashed a half a dozen different ROM, went from Amon to Clock and back to Amon, but nothing works. I reformatted my SD card a dozen times as well. I called Sprint last night, and they're sending me a new phone in the mail. But I want to understand/fix the problem for hubris sake.
I just ran the latest RUU and rerooted and it's still randomly rebooting.
My phone would reboot every minute on any rom but rooted stock called sprint got a replacement. Rerooted

We have gone over hhis a thousand times, and it seems (as Eric cartman would say) we are fed in the a. It is a hardware related problem that mostly occurs on rooted phones. Unrooting does bubcus. Go to sprint store, spend from cristmas to new years in line, show them the problem, and get a replacement. There have been no other solutions found.
Exactly what I would have done. Here's hoping I won't have to.

can anyone post a logcat or DDMS log?
That happened to me. Other than the android process media thing. If you go into terminal emulator and type
Su
Fix_permissions
. And let it run through it fixed any rebooting problems I had. I found it happens when running new apps. So I just run it after every app I install.

Where is the DDMS log stored?
Will the logs retain the information say 10 minutes after the reboot? I usually get the reboots in my car.
The random reboots that happened to me were from using siedio 1750, when I switched back to the stock battery and now the HTC 2600mAh battery, the problem has since now been solved.

I'd update everything you can, and try a different kernel :\. I think your phone may just be VERY picky with kernels. A friend of mine has a phone that ONLY likes one of the older HTC kernels. Anything else gives him reboots constantly. Hope that helps

ive done all of that, and now i notice massive battery drain ever since i updated wimax and radio, so iw ent back to an older kernal so i could flash myns rom rsl4 or w/e and the ophone is restaryting every time i try to set restrictions in afirewall, half the time i text it restarts, it gets warmer to the touch. i dont even try running games now. its bull****, i need to go back to stock evo rom and unroot and bring it in for some new ****.
my phone does that too on almost all kernels. so does that mean my phone is bad? should i get it replaced?

I also have this issue. It seems to happen with heavy usage when the battery starts to warm up. I have been on Damage Control, Fresh, Virus, MikFroyo....It doesn't matter what I run. I am just living with it for now. Kinda afraid to make it stock and get a new one. I had a friend root mine so I am not sure if I could do it myself. Just never tried. Anyways ....know what you are going through.

Hello xda community. I have a pretty large issue that affects my Epic. I recently had my Epic broken by blunt impact to the screen. So I sent it in and they sent a replacement in less than a day. I had Frozen 1.2 on my old Epic, and I had zero issues. But since I got my replacement, its been nothing but a hassle.
It doesnt get nearly as good battery life, it randomly reboots to the ACS logo, then endlessly cycles until the battery is pulled. Then when its turned back on, everything force closes, rendering the phone un-usable. The only remedy is to go to Clockwork and repair permissions. This will fix it for half the day.
Any advice?

The force closing is probably due to not having Journaling on.
I believe in the SRF 1.2 OP, there is a JournalingOn.zip, flash that (no wipes) and that should stop the force closing.
If it still is unstable for you, I recommend just reflashing the ROM.
Hope this helps.
Follow Acer's directions. If for some reason you still have an issue, then I'd recommend redownloading the rom.
You may also want to try a different kernel.

I had friend who had the same issue. He went back to SFR1.1.1
then installed ACS updater and flashed SFR 1.2. That fixed his problem. I did it that way too and have not had any issues. Calibrate battery after flashing.

That sort of worked. It made it take longer for things to get hosed over again. So I tried resetting it to stock then flashing EG22, but each time I flash EG22, it doesnt do anything. The version stays at 2.2.1. What am I doing wrong?
What did you flash that is EG22?

In order to better assist you, can you give us a step-by-step listing of everything you are doing? The files you are using with version #'s and your computer OS (with bit version).
I would recommend a full wipe of the phone, to remove any corrupted data
then do a clean install of SRF 1.2
then install the zip to turn on journaling
note: DO NOT use the reboot option until AFTER you have turned on journaling
What I did last night was returned it to factory stock EC05.
Im working with Windows 7 Home x64 on a Mac Pro, because for some reason neither Epic I've ever had will work with my custom built computer.
I flashed the EG22modem.bin with Odin 1.61. That didnt seem to do anything.
So later today, I am going to try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184134
The modem only changes the baseband..
regardless, imo it sounds like the problems you are having are due to restoring backups.. is that the case?

and everything is hunky dory in the hood. Thanks for all the help
I had the Photon so random reboots aren't to surprising to me. Hell even on my old T-Mobile htcs I flashed so much random reboots were the name of the game. But with my phone rebooting at least 6 times in the past 24 hours, I'm not too thrilled. It happens doing the most random tasks. Stumble upon, trying to open Gmail once, internet browsing. I'm wondering if this is because of root or just the phone. Anyone else experience this?

No random reboots here. Did you flash any kernels or are you stock?
I got my phone Friday 9-16, still 100% stock no root and I have not had one random reboot. If you are on stock without root you should return your phone, sounds like it is defective to me. When I saw random reboots in the title I thought I was in the Old Epic section
random reboot = probably a dud
manufacturers manufacture thousands of these devices a day, and flaws unfortunately occur

I am rooted. I first rooted with the Zedomax method, and then tried v5 of the ACS method two days ago, which is when I started getting the random reboots. I now switched to the Zedomax Overclocked Kernel (not using the overclock) to see if that fixes anything. If not maybe they'll release the stock kernel soon, and find a way to reset both flash counters.
Im completely stock and have had 2 reboots today. At first I thought maybe my hip case was pressing buttons but I had it out on my desk and then I hear it reboot. Im like WTF? I remember it did this on day one a couple of times and maybe a couple since then now I get 2 today damn near back to back. When the update comes out to fix known issues, hopefully this is one of them!

I've had 2 random reboots tonight. One was while uploading photos to facebook, the other was while it was just sitting in my cupholder in the car. The cupholder one was weird though, the screen was on, and it made the reboot noise. It was like it lagged on it, but the phone was still semi usable for about a minute, then it finally shut off and came back. Another thing is random keyboard freezes, and again tonight, my settings menu wouldn't come up until after I restarted it.
So far in the week of having this phone it has rebooted twice

Well, it's been 4 days now without a reboot. I'm guessing stopping services makes this thing go crazy. I thought stopping maps, turning off background data, etc would make battery life better (like it did on the Epic)...well, it doesn't, and like I said earlier, freaks this thing out. So, don't stop anything, and it'll be fine.

Anyhow, no problems here phone is running solid, no reboots or anything.
I had to do manually restart yesterday in order to get the camera working again. Went into the camera, and it was just a black screen with the controls around it. I love Android, but I hate that it isn't as stable as BBOS, or even iOS.

Hi all,
I have a fairly frequent issue with my Glide Captivate. Unfortunately too frequently, when I turn it on, the network is disabled (O with slash through it), most widgets say "Loading Widget..." the slide down status menu shows nothing (well except the Wifi / BT / GPS toggles.) and "USB Connected" if it is. Nothing else. The phone gets incredibly hot, and near as I can tell sucks the battery. The screen often won't unlock - it will just light up the 4 soft buttons on the bottom (menu, home, etc). When I CAN get on it, I get frequent "Sorry! Process system is not respoding"
Attempting to go through System / Manage Applications - usually about a minute in the screen will blank for a minute then go back to the lock screen.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hey i had the same issue for months with my glide. I bought it outright from rogers and was just running it stock. Drove me nuts exchanged the phone 3 times. Finally narrowed it down to the media scanner/sd card issue. The scanner would run a few times and then reboot the phone. I tried booting it without the sd card in and booted up fine. Tried a dew diff sd cards and seem to have found one that works, but it would happen once every few weeks for me. Ive looked it up on the forums its that common problem with samsung phones. Pain in the butt. Cant remember if you said you were rooted id recommend trying that im too chicken myself. Happens on my sgs2 also.

I have also this issue once in a while, its very annoying, I think that if we could have a AOSP rom that would fix it since samsung polluted their rom so much. Maybe if we get lucky, with the ICS/JB update that issue will be gone. I have also another issue, the phone randomly turns "off" and becomes really hot, it depends on how long it takes for me to realize, but most of the time, it has drained my battery to near death. I don't think those are hardware related issues, but more on the software side since its not AOSP.
Does the temperature rise when it's charging? Because that happens to my phone too. If you have the voltage control, try lowering the max cpu use to lower the temperature a little bit.
