The full restore contains a kernel. If you want to add a custom recovery, use the autoroot package as it says in all of sfhub's one-click root posts.

Can the EL29 OTA be upgraded with sfhub's root.

Okay guys, my phone has EK02 and rooted with stock Rom. I don't mind losing the root, if I can get it back using that same method, will sfhub method work after I do the OTA update.

Will titanium backup affect the phone in any way?
You cant root EL29 or any EL with the Auto Root. Since the phones rooted you might be able to option C EL29+CWM (on the latest version) but im not 100% on that and it wont flash the modem for you.
But what I will point you to is something that does work also from sfhub - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
There are 2 versions in there a full and a no data. This will flash the modem for you which otherwise would not be done. But to get CWM you still need to use the E4GT Auto option C and EL29+CWM. But with these you will have a stock rooted EL29 and upon the last step custom recovery.
I am sure someone else, sfhub of course included can comment on just using e4gt auto to copy the EL29+CWM rom over.

So it would probably safer for a noob like me to go the long route, ie.. Perform OTA update>>>reRoot using option A>>>Then running option C after A is completed.
The only reason I say this because I've been reading and noticing that people are losing their WIFI or 3G antenna after installing CMW.
So i've been kinda skeptical about running CMW.

You shouldn't lose WIFI or 3G if you use the option 'c' in the auto-root package. Its a stock kernel with only CWM added, I believe.
You can't use the auto-root anymore after EK02. They plugged that exploit from EL13 and up. You have to use sfhubs pre-rooted odin one click packages. You only use the auto root to either unroot or add CWM. If you want EL29 + stock, use the pre-rooted odin package (no data version, if you want to retain your stuff). Its simple to do. CMW is optional after that if you want to flash custom mods or roms.
As i said beforeyou cant use auto root on el29 . The zerg exploit is patched. If you OTA update the only way to get root back is ODIN which is going to overwrite anything previously done anyways.
If the phone passes the ek02 to el29 check under the d option on the latest auto root you CAN ota update to EL29 and you LOSE root. At which point you will need to use ODIN or sfhubs One Click ODIN for EL29 to have root.
All you need todo to go straight to a stock rooted EL29 is run sfhubs one click odin for el29 and he has a no data option that wont delete your apps and info.
If you pass the check you can alternatively use sfhubs ota style update he has posted. But the odin is one and done. Very simple.
I am using cwm via proper methods personally nothing to report. 3g 4g and wifi all good on my end.

Yup, simple as it can get. I just did this about 2 Weeks ago. Took about 10 mins to do. Just follow sfhub's clear instructions on the thread. Also came from just stock ek02 + root and wanted to update to el29 with only root.

Guys rooting and CWM worked with no problem, thanks for the help.
One question, I performed a NANDROID backup, where is this backup stored?

Stock FC07 Kernel?

Where is it? I can't find a .zip file for the true stock not repacked??? frusutrating me lol defiantly need .zip not .tar
You need to install it first and use auto root package to remove the root access. Then it purely becomes the 'Stock'.

huh? im just asking for a flashable .zip that would no longer give me recovery but pure stock kernel.. i don't want to lose root access... lol I use mobile odin to flash back to repacked CWM kernel's when i plan on flashing again... but i can't find a stock .zip kernel for FC07

Ahh!
FC07 stock kernel is in here -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539581 Check out the second post and download the kernel b2) odin file. You can mobile odin this file and your kernel goes back to stock.

[Q] Remove root from custom ROM?

So here is my scenario: My work makes us use a security app on our phone in order to be able to sync Exchange data from our servers. If it detects your phone as rooted, you can't get data to sync.
I realize there are apps such as "Temp Root Remover" and such, but do they work on E4GT Roms? Otherwise, if I get my ROM setup how I like and then delete the SU libs from /system/xbin will that remove root?
Thanks...
flash a stock kernel of whatever ROM you're on.

So root is baked into the kernel, not the ROM?
The easiest way to unroot is using sfhub's auto root package tool at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
Option B.

It can be both/either depending on what you installed.
Most of the latest stuff will have "superuser" in the ROM.
Some of the earlier stuff put it in the kernel.
If you install custom recovery, they will commonly have adb handing out shells logged in as root, which si different than having the Superuser app.

So what do you think is the best way to deal with my issue in the OP? Stock rooted EL29 and then just run Temp Root Remover all the time?
BTW...thanks for the info in the other thread as well...

If you are running stock rooted EL29 installed using the pre-rooted EL29 ODIN OneClick, then just run Option B in the Auto Root package and it will unroot you and return you to stock. Before doing that, while you still have root, install the stock kernel (if you want the stock kernel) using Option C.
If you installed EL29 some other way, you can prob ably just ODIN the kernel and ROM from the pre-rooted EL29 OneClick thread, 2nd post, reference section.

So after running the pre-rooted EL29 Odin OneClick, then unrooting using Option B of your amazing Auto Root package, what is the best way to regain root without losing all my stuff? Would it be to just re-run the EL29 Odin OneClick that preserves data, or is there an even easier way to just add root access back into my setup?

You could run the nodata version, it'll preserve your user data. I suspect you are making changes to you /system though. Does the root detector from work consider cwm to be root? If not, then install something like el29+cwm-rogue and then you can use option A to root and option B to unroot as many times as you want and it won't
Reset your rom

It does not consider CWM to be root. I thought in the Auto Root that it would only add root to builds up to EL13...and EL29 is newer so it wouldn't add root to it. Did I misunderstand that???

If you have stock everything, including kernel and rom, then the root exploit Option A only works up to and including ek02.
If you have a cwm installed (like rogue) which gives the # prompt in adb shell, then the exploit itself still fails, but option A is able to chug along and install persistent root for you.
I don't publicize this because so few people are in your situation and it would probably be confusing for the general user.

Thanks for all the info. I can see how most some people would get that messed up. I appreciate all your info on this topic, and of course for the Auto Root package...

Updating to ICS roms

Hey everyone,
About 4 months ago when I got my new Epic 4g touch I rooted the phone with autoroot and installed calkulins rom which I now have at version 2.6. I am also using an ICS theme. What do I now have to do in order to get the newest modem and custom ICS roms installed on my phone? Since autoroot is no longer functional I have heard that I will have to install the stock rom and modem on my phone and then use odin to install new modems.... Is this the case? Does anyone have links to stock roms and modems I should use before I proceed into using Odin?
Thanks!

You have few options:
1. If you want latest stock rooted rom just flash sfhubs one click FF18 rooted rom from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721229
2. If you want any of the custom TW (stock based) roms read thru threads, see which one you like most download the rom and copy to your sd card.
Boot to recovery. Wipe/factory reset (you're on GB rom and you're not risking to brick your phone) and apply zip in recovery.
Rom will flash kernel as well and you will have rooted ICS rom on your phone.
Download CWM modem zip file from sfhub's thread and flash it in recovery as well.
3. If you want AOSP/AOKP/CM rom just read the installation instructions in OP and follow them.
If you have more questions, ask....
Thanks!!
So sprint plugged the autoroot feature but I am still able to download any ICS rom on my current setup (after full wipe) and install through my CWM and it will work? I am on the EK02 modem, I am able to upgrade to ICS modems without using Odin?
if you have custom recovery you can flash CWM modem zip from sfhubs tread in recovery.
If you don't have custom recovery use sfhubs autoroot package to flash EK02 kernel with CWM recovery and than flash rom and modem in recovery.
Sprint din't include anything for us. It's all done by a great developer sfhub.
With Sasmung devices and their ODIN support, you aren't really required to have root to flash anything. In other devices(HTC), you need to have a exploit to root them so that you have Read/write access to certain partitions that you wouldn't normally, thus allowing you to flash.

ICS flashing down to GB rom

If i'm stock w/ the latest ICS update, can i root, install cwm, and flash a GB rom?

No you will have to root install EL29 with SFHubs one click method here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1429243

Thanks for the help people.
It took a few hours of trial and error but for those who want to know, here's how you install a GB ROM (in my case Calk v2.9.2) from a stock unrooted ICS ff18:
- download the el29 Odin file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101 (make sure all drivers are downloaded and installed)
- Run Odin el29 (this will get our ICS ff18 back to GB el29 BUT your phone will be glitchy. Do a factory reset and the phone should start up and function correctly).
- Now, install CWM for el29.
- In CWM install your ROM. In my case I installed Calks v2.9.2 so i had to download and run his "wipe all", (I forgot to do this the first time and it I got stuck on the galaxy boot logo), then install ROM.

Thank you for the info..
With all the crappy ICS FF18 bugs/battery/scroll issues, I'm on edge about going back to GB.... I would get a day and 1/2 easy with Calk 3.0.. even with ICS Blu Kuban i dont get a whole day.. (yes using RC1 kernel)...
Only thing I really like about ICS, is I can install S-Voice Other than that, GB did all i need.....
