Whenever I slide my game pad out to play a game my screen blacks out. It is still working but just doesn't show anything to me. Same happens when I slide it down again. If it is turned off and the game pad isn't showing (closed) and I open it it shows the games launcher fine. I'm wondering if this is a hardware problem or the fact that I recently flashed DooMKerneL and tried overclocking to 1.2gHz?
Please help. Thanks
doom kernel and oc should be fine ? possible a slightly loose flex cable but don't think it's that try a reflash or nandriod backup if u have cwm
Yeah I did flash back to my first stock backup and it still did, where can I get a flex cable and how much are they? Worth fixing myself?

Hey guys.
Whenever I slide out my gamepad the screen will blackout, it still lets me touch stuff but I can't see what I'm touching. When I turn the screen off and back on it's ok again. It works when I slide out if the screen is off it shows the games launcher fine without me having to turn it off and on again. Is this due to me flashing DooMKerneL and over clocking to 1.2gHz for about 1 hour or is it actual hardware problem with my phone?
Any help would be appreciated

I can't remember what the safe operating over clock values are but I don't think that's the problem...
Don't do this straight away as I may be wrong but it could possibly be a error in a system file somewhere
I'd suggest going into Clockwork recovery and load a previous Nandroid backup or even revert back to stock and then reflash back to whatever ROM/Kernel you are currently using.
However, it just seems like a minor inconvenience personally. I had a similar issue with my Nokia N95 and just became accustomed to it after a while

I've had my xplay since october and the only issuses I've had are times that I've flashed roms/mods that aren't compatible with it. Big deal, thats what nandroids are for but what about my touch screen not responding?
It started after I DL xreboot and booted in to recovery. An hour after making a backup via xreboot--> and then CWM my touch screen just stopped responging to my fingers. A reboot temperaorly fixes it but then it just stopes sometime later.
Could this be software related or should I look towards getting a new xplay?
Just realized this should probably be in Q&A could a mod move it for me?

You tried flashing back to stock with Flashtool?
Sent from my Xperia Play using xda premium
Yes, now I'm flashing kerian's kernel & playosp to test his rom & hope my screen doesn't stop working.
Mine does the same thing, buy I think it might have top do with all the times I have dropped it, also my digitizer is cracked but at first it didn't affect my touch screen now I'm thinking it might have something to do with it

This is not a ROM-specific issue - it has been an irritating thing for me over the past year. It has happened on CM7/9/10, MIUI, any custom rom actually. Rather irritating when you wanna switch from gaming to texting etc (which is what I often do).
Just wondering if anyone found a fix. Thanks!

I have this issue as well. Whenever I open or close my play, it reboots. If I apply pressure as I slide out the gamepad, it works normally. Most likely a loose hinge or something.

Its not a software issue its a hardware issue for sure because my xperia play reboots when I close the slide on any rom. I'm not very tech savvy nor am I afraid of opening my xperia play I just don't know how the slide on the xperia play ticks. It can be number of things it can be slide, flex, the screen I have no clue. If someoone has a hardware fix on this please share.
Had this problem on stock rom but after flashing cola it's yet to happen.
Maybe I got lucky, IDK, it might be worth a try if it's bothering you too much.
There is a contact problem with your battery and the phone

This is not from your Rom. It is from your battery. Remove the battery use a paper to make it more firm as you put the battery inside the phone. I had the same problem but now I can slide my xperia PLAY open as hard and fast as u want without it rebooting.
HIT THANKS IF THIS HELPED

That doesn't work for me. I had to open my xperia play and replace the flex cable and now no reboots. The flex cable on my xperia play has alot of wear and tear in it.
I gave my R800at to my brother and today it begin to reboot when sliding in or out, it was a little lose, but not much.
I opened it, the flex cable seemed to be secure so I don't know specifically what caused it to reboot. But I tried to secure all the connections and tighten all the screws in the phone and it fixed the problem. No doubt I feel the problem will reoccur again in the future. I does seem sliding out the gamepad slowly and with some pressure down help.
To open the phone you need to use a Torque screw driver with the size "T5", you can get it at Lowe or Home Depot.
Ok, I have posted on this before and no one seems to bother even replying. But I'm trying again because this problem is really @#$!$# me off!
At random my phone will act like the back button is being presses. But it doesn't happen to all programs or all the time. Programs that are included that it usually happends with: XDA forum app, Play Store, K9 Mail, MobileBiz Pro.
It actually acts like the back button is being pressed. So if I try to open XDA, the loading screen comes up, then BACK to the homescreen. If I go into K9 Mail and am fast enough to open an email, after a second or so, it goes back to the K9 main mail screen, I press the email again, it opens, then BACK to the main screen, then if I wait anothe second or so, it goes BACK again to the homescreen.
But it doesn't do this with all programs. The other thing is, I tried posting this on my phone. I was almost done and tried to think if I was missing anything. My screen times out and turned off, I hit the power button to turn the screen on again, then as soon as it turned on, it BACKED out of my message to the Q&A forum, then BACK to the main xperia play forum, then BACK to the homescreen.
PLEASE HELP. I have no idea how to fix this. I thought it could be not enough memory, so I used supercharger to set the memory settings low so it wouldn't close things unless it was almost out of memory, and no effect. I have no idea what to do and I need help!
I'm hoping this time someone can!
PLEASE!
Have you tried flashing stock FTf files again?

I've tried multiple roms. But I'm not sure if it can be a HW problem since it doesnt do it in all programs, only certain ones.
I mean flashing the stock Rom via flashtool again?
It will give u a clear system

Yes I have.
It's weird, I can use a program called "My OC Transpo" A timetable app for city busses. No problems, but the Gallery app and other programs get the problem.
That is very weird and I bet very annoying it may be a hardware problem then but I'm just guessing :/
I know it seems like it is a HW issue. But why does it do it for some programs and not others?
I used to use K9 Mail, it didnt even do it at first, the problem happend with other programs, then after time it happend to K9. So I switched to MailDroid, and no problems.
Heres the REALLY weird thing. If I WAIT a little bit with the screen on, the problem doesnt happen. Say for 20-30 seconds.
Anyone?
Does the screen have moisture on it when it happens? When the screen is cold and you breathe on it moisture can form. At least it does for me, especially in the morning.
If not, does pressing the back button stop it happening?
Sent from my Ascend G300 using xda app-developers app
Nope no moisture.
It also happens in this situation: i'm using it fine, then the screen turns off from the timeout, it comes back up, and the problem happends. I have to wait about 30 seconds or so for it to start working again.
Well you can view a log cat and see what happened at the exact time of the "random back"

I've never used logcats, is there a guide somewhere?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
No need to logcat HW problems. If you have a warranty maybe they'll fix it. If not buy a broke play on eBay and use its parts to fix yours.

My guess is that you've got a hardware problem :/
Flash stock ftf, if BL is unlocked then flash the relock ftf, and send it off to Sony aslong as you still have Warranty

No warrenty. It's a few year old.
I dont think it is HW. I mean it works FINE for programs like my bus app, titanium backup, etc. but for other programs, K9 Mail, MobileBiz, Google Play Store, it doesnt.
well the apps may just be incompatible and unstable on your rom
Hi,
Suddenly my xperia play's screen blacked out when I tried to slide open my play. It happens everytime I try to slide open it.
My Xperia Play is about 1.5 yrs old now.
Anyone else have that type of problem? And if anyone have, pls help me out.
Thanks.

No problems here, try installing a fresh rom and see if that fixes your problem

Sorry, but i have tried everything including reinstalling the rom and kernel (ICS, GB, JB). But nothing works. I think that its not a software issue but a hardware issue, i tried searching on the internet and i think that it would be a problem of the sliding flex cable?
If you have any clues please let me know soon. I want my good old PLAY back.
Thanks.

It is most likely flex cable. Not still broken, but in specific position is losing contact. I wouldn't be suprised if your screen goes black and stay thay way (worst case scenario).
Try to find repair center or place where you can buy it before it tottaly broke.
You can minimize damage but not sliding gamepad some time.
Again, it's my opinion, so i might be wrong,..
That and TV Static-like display are classic signs of slider flex problem. Trust me, I had 3 broken slider flexes already.
Ok,
Thanks for the help. Now i got it, i just have to buy a new flex cable and replace it.
Thanks again.
I had the same problem with mine and it was the flex cable
