Total Backup solution needed

I need to do a total backup of my Desire, as I have the Android Market problem, and I have tried everyrthing and I mean everything trying to fix it without having to do a factory reset. So please dont give me tips on how to fix it.
What I do need information on is how I can totaly backup my desire, meaning
contacts
sms
google maps starred loactions
and all downloaded apps with their settign are backed up
I am aware that there are things on the Android market that I can download to backup different bits at a time, but I cant use Android Market app to download anything so I need to get apps that I can put on the desire from my pc.
Any ideas would be very helpful.
My desire is running Android 2.2 and has not been rooted or modded in any way.

Titanium backup is not necessary - after rooting just use Nandroid backup from recovery.

Is there a way of backing up app data without rooting?
i.e. I want to be able to back up Angry Birds data so if I factory reset I can reinstall all my scores

pretty sure the angry birds data is kept on the sd card?

yea, the APK is on the SD, but the data is on the phone - don't want to lose that after the hours I spent getting 3 stars on a lot of it... any suggestions?

Titanium Backup is a more flexible solution.
I don't see how backing up the whole nandroid and restoring it would fix anything, the phone would be in the exact same state.

No way to do that. The data is simply saved in a partition that normal users can't access. So root is actually necessary in this case. Pretty easy and harmless, especially since you can unroot if you want to.

I thought so - I also assume to restore backups you'd need to be rooted too - silly - you'd think that some way to backup app data would be fairly common (to non-rooted bog standard users)...

Actually, I wouldnt call it exactly harmless. Depends on how you've gone about rooting it and what precautions you've taken.
If you're a newbie, ensure the following before you root:
Make a goldcard-Absolutely essential if you have an SLCD Desire, since RUUs are dificult to find for unrooting, if you're branded
Ensure that an RUU for your country is available, or a generic one which is sure to work.

There are apps to backup certain things like SMS and Application Installations (without data), which can work without being rooted. If you want the restoration to mimic the previous state of that app with data, then you need to access the system as root.

I backed up using Titanium backup after using unrevoked to root my device.
I now have a problem doing a OTA update from T-mobile/HTC (update 2.12.110.4)
It downloads then asks me to install to which I cay yes, it reboots and just sits at a screen. when I press the power button its shows the clockworkmod recovery v2.5.0.7
and says verfication signature failed and lets me reboot and doesnt install the update.
What is this?

OTA updates dont (usually) work after rooting. In most Rooted ROMs they wont download. In some they do, and wont update. OTA are like RUUs. They try to upgrade the factory version of the software and should be used only on non-rooted Desires. Anyway I dont see why you need them. In case you're rooted, the latest version of your custom ROMs would be better than OTAs..

If you mean you want to take your phone back to what it was when you first got it..This is called reverting to Stock
If you have rooted since you got the phone, and have not put on a custom ROM like Cyanogen, Aurax or LeeDroid, your phone is now basically Rooted Stock..In this case, if you just want to remove all the custom apps and data, you can do a factory reset..This does not remove the rooting. The app Superuser Manager will still be in your phone menu, and Recovery ROM-Clockworkmod/Amon Ra will still be on the phone. In brief, the rooting process is apparent to service engineers.
If you have put on a custom ROM like Cyanogen, Aurax or LeeDroid after rooting, if you just want to get your phone to the HTC look, you can flash a Stock based ROM-Froyo or Non Froyo (Just search for "Stock rooted ROM"). This will get you the HTC sense interface.
But if your purpose is to take phone back for warranty purpose and don't want them to know you've rooted it, you need to flash an RUU over your current setup. This will remove rooting process and get it back to factory setup.

Speaking of Titanium backup once I do the RUU I'm guessing I wont be able to restore my titanium backup bits, as I wont have root access anymore?

You just got your wish answered! Check out this thread. Apparently Titanium can be run in a Temporary Root mode, thus allowing us to restore items even after unrooting!

[Q] ESPRIMG.zip update in the Bootloader wipes phone?

I'm about to finish this rooting process to put a custom rom on my brothers phone, but I want to be sure he won't lose all of his data if I do the ESPRIMG.zip update...I'm just trying to play it safe before he hates me for losing all his data
If anyone can verify this for me, I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't want to mess this up if I can avoid it.

I wouldn't think anything would be wiped until you flash a new rom or do a wipe yourself... but don't quote me on that... I've only rooted 3 devices and the Slide was back in December, haha. D:

This is what I'm wondering. I've rooted a G1, G2, and nook color before (although the NC is completely automated and required no work really, as there was nothing to back up the first time around). On the G1, it was my first device obviously and I lost all my data when wiping and flashing a custom rom. In the G2 process, I was able to get apps like Ti Backup to run on the stock rom, so I was able to back up all my apps and data.
On this one, it's a bit different (at least for now), I want to know if performing that update in the bootloader will put an entirely different image on my phone, meaning I'd lose all the data that's currently on there.
It's not so much the apps, but all the application data that I'm worried about losing without warning him first...I don't want him to have to repeat all his work to get to the same spot he's currently at in angry birds or something

Its going to wipe the phone. How to back up data? Idk.

I just did this myself, so take a noob's word for what it's worth.
Yes it will wipe the phone IF you tell it to do the update. If you want to back up your phone you first need to put ClockworkMod Recovery on your SD card and name it simply update.zip. When you load into the boot loader (Vol down + Power) select "Recovery" then something about "Apply from SD: Update.zip" and you will get into ClockworkMod Recovery where you can then do a Nandroid back up of your phone.

It completely wipes the phone. It REPLACES SPL, radio, recovery, rom, etc with the factory spec so the phone will be exactly as it was when first pulled out of the box.
Contacts, calendar, etc should be backed up to google. Apps can be downloaded again from the market and should be auto restored on sign-in to google.
Personal settings and data like texts, call logs, etc are gone though unless you use a program like Titanium Backup to save them.
The other thing you could do is root the stock rom, make a nandroid backup before flashing a custom rom and then if he wants to go back all he has to do is restore the nandroid backup and unroot with all his data preserved.

All right this is what i was suspecting. Is there any way to run titanium backup on the stock rom without wiping it first?

What do you mean? Titanium Backup requires root. You can use it in your custom rom to backup everything you want, then restore, reroot, then download titanium backup again and restore the data from your sdcard. If that doesn't answer your question please elaborate on what you are trying to accomplish so that I can help.
Where are you now? What steps did you take to get there? Where are you trying to get to and why?
EDIT - I've had an mt3g and an mt4g but never an espresso so i'm slightly out of my element. I reread the first post and it appears you have root but for whatever reason titanium isn't granted root access. Do you have superuser permissions installed? It can be installed from the market as long as you have root access.
Once you have clockwork (or amon ra) recovery installed you can make a nandroid backup of his stock rom without rooting it, but carrying all the data over to the new rom will require an app such as titanium or mybackup (free 30 day trial) from the market.

Yeah, this was the first device I rooted, so I just sorta flew through it. I was glad that it got rooted and I could put a rom on, so the loss of data wasn't TOO big to me.
And I've lost Angry Birds like... 4 times now, haha.

I am aware of all of that.
What I've done is use the exploid method to root until you get to the "#" prompt in the adb shell, after toggling wifi and running ./exploid twice. Then to continue in order to flash a custom rom, I've got to perform the update from the bootloader with ESPRIMG.zip. All I'm asking is that since I do have root through the exploid method, can I run Titanium Backup BEFORE I flash a custom rom, since technically it is possible to gain root access before flashing custom roms. I tried installing the app but it could not properly gain the access it needed. I think this probably has something to do with no superuser app being installed either.
Does it make sense what I'm asking? Thanks guys.

Yeah I think so. I'll take a look at the root guide but if you have # in Terminal then you should have root. Try installing superuser and see what happens. Do you have a custom recovery installed yet? I think you'll need that to install superuser.
Why didn't you just try SuperOneClick? Much easier than all this.

The # in terminal disappears as soon as I try to exit, and whatever work you've done resets upon a reboot.
I don't have clockwork installed as of yet, because the guide says I've got to update the ESPRIMG.zip through the bootloader before I can do that. I'll try flashing clockwork first and installing superuser before I do anything else.
Does a one click root exist for the slide? I thought that it wasn't possible at this time. If that's the case I'm interested as long as it allows me to run Ti Backup and such and flash clockwork with s-off to do some backups before I go ahead and flash cyanogenmod. Thanks.
EDIT: As expected, can't flash clockwork update without flashing the ESPRIMG.zip update. If I can't run Titanium, it'd be nice to get a couple files out of /data/data before doing the wipe. I tried an adb pull which would not work from the /data partition. With the # prompt in terminal, I wanted to copy some of these files, but the "cp" command doesn't seem to work in terminal, but "mv" and "rm" do. Any way to copy files from within the adb shell? If I could move them to the SD card it would be nice.

[Q] Wierdest thing ever. regarding Superuser

So, I need some help here.
I installed Superuser.apk prior to rooting my phone, and since I was having some issues getting it done, I did a factory reset.
Superuser is now a SYSTEM APP
I know it doesn't come pre-installed, and Factory reset is suppose to wipe everything off my phone.
So, why is Superuser still on, and now a system app??
(It didn't influence rooting at all, it still worked, but i'm just wondering wtf,m?)

Superuser is meant to be a system application... Otherwise you'd lose root every time you wipe data. Given that one of the uses of root is to restore app backups, it's not too interesting to have to root again every time you want to restore them.
Factory reset wipes the data partition, not the system one.

I rooted my jelly bean moto razr M and downloaded the software through the RSD lite and superuser finally disappeared, anyway the storage keeps reading USB disk/sotrage/usbdisk1.1.1-1.7 and I never noticed that before is that from the root or is it just something I just didn't pay enough attention to before?

If I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 2 that is rooted and have CWM and have some apps installed on it, How can I update it's official firmware while keeping it rooted and keeping all of my apps the way it was before?

rooting or unrooting doesn't modify your apps, but if you're worried, while you're still rooted, I would backup all your apps using Titanium Backup. Then if something does happen you can restore it back. That is of course, once you unroot, update, and reroot again.

Download full rom here http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=SGH-T889&pcode=0&os=1&type=1#firmware then use mobile odin to install it, injecting root at the same time.

I have no problem retaining ALL data after updated with Kies. Regaining root is no sweat as well.
But remember to use Triangle Away to reset flash counter.

I would like to try doing this will mobile odin. Could you provide a little more detail. Did you put file the internal sdcard? Also did you do a wipe of any partition? Does wiping data and cache option also wipe internal sdcard.

In mobile odin you have the option of wiping dalvik and cache, it wont wipe anything else. I had an external sd card that I always put it on. Very easy to do and it works perfectly. Just make sure you check mark to install ever root, super su and mobile odin.

Used mobile odin pro. Worked like a charm! Recovered root, all downloaded apps and settings were intact via Titanium Backup. One thing, if you want to restore the state of a rom specific app (like the calendar), Titanium will warn you that you could have errors because you have a different rom. For this case I restored data and then calander showed all appointments so good to go here. Also, I had used the xposed installer to modify multiview such that I could run all apps in multiview. Worked fine with this rom. One curious thing, if I now check for device software updates I no longer get the message that my device is "modified" and am ineligible for updates. This is nice! had thought that you couldn't avoid this even if you used triangle away. Thanks again!

How do I re-root my Tmo Note 2 using heimdall? I was rooted, then updated to 4.3 via Kies. I lost root, and do not know if I am supposed to follow the same steps when I rooted my Note 2 while it was running 4.1.2. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm aware of 2 different root methods for R800x on 2.3.4. This post should point you in the right direction:

Cool man... Glad to hear you got it rooted. After you get the phone setup how you like it (including Superuser/SuperSU and busybox already installed ), then make a Nandroid backup in CWM. Keep a copy of that backup somewhere safe (like on your external sd card and an additional one on your computer), then you can always restore that Nandroid backup after wiping cache, wiping dalvik, and doing a factory reset in CWM. (Also.... If you mess the phone up really bad when tinkering with it, you can always use Androxyde's Flashtool to restore the phone to Stock.... then root it again /reinstall CWM, and restore that Nandroid backup. I can't tell you how many times I've had to do that when experimenting with different things on the phone).
I don't know of any other way to restore with a Superuser app and busybox already installed.... (other than to flash a ROM/Kernel that already includes these... but you will have to unlock your bootloader-- if not done already-- in order to flash custom kernels).

No. You have to install the Clockwork Mod Recovery separately.

Another way to install CWM Recovery is to use the Xparts app, (also called the CWM Auto Installer)... but you have to use an older version (v.5) for the R800x. If you'd rather use the Xparts app, then go to this thread:

Scroll to the bottom of the first post to find several versions of the app. Download and install ("CWM Installer-v5.apk").... then use the app to install CWM. I've not used this method, but others report that it works.
