[Q] How do i reinstall BootAnimation on CM7 Nightly? - HTC Wildfire S

I managed to make a mess..
While flashing the new "Beats" mod today on my WFS, i thought id go one beter and change the boot animation. The result being, i have no boot animation at all now; I made a mistake in root manager when swapping & renaming files.
Can anyone help? Ideally on how to install any bootanimation at all...i tried to reverse what i did, to re do what what suggested, but all i have is black screen boot animation!! Thats no fun :-(

It's in /system/media and maybe also /data/local. It's named bootanimation.zip. ideally u can swap it out with any mpdi bootanimation.zip. change permissions to rw- r- r-. There are also cwm flashable zip files out there or u can make one in uot kitchen

Yea tried to swap, but one thing I didn't do was look at permissions. I "think", they are in either /system/media or /data/local, and I put it in wrong place! A flashable one would be real handy, but would it work after my tampering with root manager?
Its all good...Much thanks for taking the time..

It should work
Download beatsbootanimation.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531999
1.Rename beatsbootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip (or beatsbootanimation to bootanimation if the extension is hidden)
2.Copy bootanimation.zip to sdcard
3.Open root explorer and browse to where you copied bootanimation.zip and select "Copy"
4.Browse to system/media -> Press Mount R/W(upper right corner) and select "Paste", if it ask to overwrite select "Yes"
5.Reboot your phone.

I usually leave the original where it is but rename it to bootanimation.old then paste the new one in there. Then if you want the original back you just delete the new one and rename the original back to bootanimation.zip.

I usually use Root Explorer (found on market) to copy/paste the bootanimation. Couple thing you may want to check:
Is the bootanimation.zip compressed? If so the extract the files and re-zip using "store" as the compression setting.
Is the animation meant to be flashed or put in manually? Check this by opening the zip... if you see two folders: System, META-INF then its meant to be flashed... check the path to be sure its going to the right location. If you see 1or2 folders named part0, part1 etc accompanied by a TXT file called desc.txt, that is meant to be put in manually
Try the animations listed in my thread and if that doesnt work then post the animation your trying to load on my thread and ill look at it and see what i can do
This should come in handy. Thx!

I met same prob with new 2.3.4 KPB asia rom. Is there anybody know how to solve it?
1. download bootanimation from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538
change the name to bootanimation.zip
2.copy the file bootanimation.zip with root explorer to
/system/media/
3.change the files in /system/media/ that ends with *qmg to *.qmg.bak
4.again copy bootanimation.zip to
/data/local/
*delete the old file from there.
5. copy samsungani from download link and paste it in
/system/bin
http://98abdc58.yyv.co
*overwrite the old file.
6. change the name of the file bootanimation in /system/bin
to bootanimation.bak
if u have samsungloop file u can change his name to samsungloop*.bak
7. reboot your phone.
that all.
that what i am doing and not work
why no one wont to help me i used all thing and nothing work anyone help me plz
5. copy samsungani from download link and paste it in
/system/bin
http://98abdc58.yyv.
you dont need to use this step in CF kernel
And don't forget to set permissions to rw-r-r for bootanimation.zip file in /system/media.
Cheers

Issue changing boot animation

Running TNz Blend 2.6.2 with gunslinger.
I put the bootanimation.zip file in system/media and deleted the old file. I changed permissions. I tried renaming the file to sanim.zip. All I get now is the ANDROID logo.
I also tried the following:
How to replace/add a boot animation
1.Download or extract a bootanimation.zip
2.Place the bootanimation.zip on root of your SD card (or use a cloud app i.e. Dropbox, Minus, Box, etc.)
3.Make a copy of the bootanimation and name it sanim.zip and move that to your SD card as well
4.Open a root manager app (I prefer Root Explorer)
5.Navigate to system/media
6.Select Mount R/W (top right in Root Explorer, on by defauly in ROM Toolbox) then either delete, or move existing bootanimation.zip and sanim.zip
7.Navigate back to sdcard, then copy or move bootanimation.zip to system/media and then repeat with sanim.zip
•Some people replace only the bootanimation.zip and others only the sanim.zip, but I find each of those methods seem to create issues if the kernel you are running does not support custom bootanimations by default. So I replace both zips and it has worked well on multiple ROMs/Kernels. If this doesn't work for you, try replacing each individually. One of the three methods will definitely work for your ROM/Kernel combo.
•User 12MaNy has created a thread with several bootanimations available as well some methods for install
•Boot animation sounds can be found/added at /system/etc/poweron.wav and /system/etc/1_Power_on.ogg (may be listed as /system/etc/poweron.bak and /system/etc/1_Power_on.bak if these have been "muted".)
•Also make sure to check and see if your dev has already moded the boot ani setup as nerys71 discovered here.
How to hack custom bootanimation support (Via chris41g) Only works with source built kernels. Thanks dtm_stretch.
1.Rename /system/bin/samsungani to something else... (eg samsungani.old)
2.Rename /system/bin/bootanimation to /system/bin/samsungani
3.After that it will load whatever bootanimation is at /system/media/sanim.zip
After doing the steps above, I get a black screen during boot.
Any help is appreciated.
All I do is rename the old one to .bak and put the new one in system/media and reboot ...works on cm 9

Apparently that should work, but it hasn't for me. I also tried when I was on the Blazer rom.

Download the attachments and extract the two files out then put them under /system/bin (replace the original two files there)
Get bootanimation.zip from ROMtoolbox and rename the zip into sanim.zip. Put sanim.zip under /system/media
DONE.
Awesome

Custom Boots

Have a nandroid backup just in case something goes wrong, Ive softbricked before many times actually just for trying to change a bootanimation. It can happen.
If you already have been using data/local for install location and its working for you great. I just noticed that i used my steps below but left out changing installation directory, so ive been installing to my data/local and my changes have been taking effect. After installing bootanimations i noticed my location was data/local then i went to change it to system/media and install a animation and nothing changes. So i am using data/local now as my target, im guessing if i were just to delete the boot zip from data/local my system/media bootzip will play only because i have a bootanimation.zip already installed to that directory as well, im not going to try it yet but maybe on a rainy day with downtime on my hands ill try it. But after all said the locations of install are working just fine, in the OP instructions are just one way of setting a valid default installation. Im guessing which ever location you started using first is the location you should continue to use.
Btw im on kuban2.1, stock FI27 , init.d support enabled

you can download xxxxxxxxxxGIF.zip and rename the extension to .gif and then use RomToolBox to Automate the install. You need help just ask ill do my best.
INSTRUCTIONS BELOW
NOTE:"Before using romtoolbox"Open romtoolbox go to bootanimations, press your menu softkey, press install location, change common locatioms value to /system/media/ select ok. Now If you are using a stock rom but a kernel that supports boot animation (and you are rooted), using rootexplorer or a similiar app go into system/bin. Find samsungani and rename it to samsungani.bak. Now find bootanimation in system/bin and rename bootanimation to samsungani. Thats it. Now all bootanimations correctly placed in the system/media will work upon boot... "
After the above has been setup on your device you can now navigate to your gif file in a file explorer app. Once you click the gif file window pops up and use gif to bootanimation, then choose to install..
or
ONLY IF YOU ALREADY COMPLETED THE STEPS ABOVE;
If you already completed the above steps with naming samsungai to samsungani.bak, and bootanimation to samsungani in the /system/bin, and changed location install to /system/media/ then you can download the bootanimation.zip and manually copy paste it into /system/media/ via root explorer or you could even open romtoolbox goto bootanimations then choose local tab then find the bootanimation.zip click it then choose install, then reboot your phone.
Because this site has bugs when uploading i have to name bootanimations over and over again (they get overwritten) so you have to rename the bootanimation after downloading to bootanimation.zip
