Issue changing boot animation - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Running TNz Blend 2.6.2 with gunslinger.
I put the bootanimation.zip file in system/media and deleted the old file. I changed permissions. I tried renaming the file to sanim.zip. All I get now is the ANDROID logo.
I also tried the following:
How to replace/add a boot animation
1.Download or extract a bootanimation.zip
2.Place the bootanimation.zip on root of your SD card (or use a cloud app i.e. Dropbox, Minus, Box, etc.)
3.Make a copy of the bootanimation and name it sanim.zip and move that to your SD card as well
4.Open a root manager app (I prefer Root Explorer)
5.Navigate to system/media
6.Select Mount R/W (top right in Root Explorer, on by defauly in ROM Toolbox) then either delete, or move existing bootanimation.zip and sanim.zip
7.Navigate back to sdcard, then copy or move bootanimation.zip to system/media and then repeat with sanim.zip
•Some people replace only the bootanimation.zip and others only the sanim.zip, but I find each of those methods seem to create issues if the kernel you are running does not support custom bootanimations by default. So I replace both zips and it has worked well on multiple ROMs/Kernels. If this doesn't work for you, try replacing each individually. One of the three methods will definitely work for your ROM/Kernel combo.
•User 12MaNy has created a thread with several bootanimations available as well some methods for install
•Boot animation sounds can be found/added at /system/etc/poweron.wav and /system/etc/1_Power_on.ogg (may be listed as /system/etc/poweron.bak and /system/etc/1_Power_on.bak if these have been "muted".)
•Also make sure to check and see if your dev has already moded the boot ani setup as nerys71 discovered here.
How to hack custom bootanimation support (Via chris41g) Only works with source built kernels. Thanks dtm_stretch.
1.Rename /system/bin/samsungani to something else... (eg samsungani.old)
2.Rename /system/bin/bootanimation to /system/bin/samsungani
3.After that it will load whatever bootanimation is at /system/media/sanim.zip
After doing the steps above, I get a black screen during boot.
Any help is appreciated.

All I do is rename the old one to .bak and put the new one in system/media and reboot ...works on cm 9

Apparently that should work, but it hasn't for me. I also tried when I was on the Blazer rom.

Enabling boot animations in FE10 build with sfhub's Plus kernel

Had to post this here instead of the dev thread for sfhub's One-click FE10 because I haven't hit my 10 posts yet, but here goes...
Here's how I a boot animation working on the leaked FE10 build (with sfhubs Plus kernel):
I grabbed one of the animations from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985251 (Make sure it's one of the .zip's and not a flashable one)
I used the "Hack custom bootanimation support" method that I found in the Epic 4g Touch Owner's Toolkit
Basically, is says to do this: (With a root file explorer, so that you can mount the needed system folders as R/W)
1. Rename /system/bin/samsungani to something else... (eg samsungani.old)
2. Rename /system/bin/bootanimation to /system/bin/samsungani
3. After that it will load whatever bootanimation is at /system/media/sanim.zip
Now, on FE07 this worked perfectly with the bootanimation.zip renamed to sanim.zip, but when I upgraded to FE10 and tried it, it didn't work. I took my original bootanimation.zip and put in the /system/media folder (left sanim.zip just in case), rebooted, and voila. A cyan android with spinning particles.
I hope this helps the devs over there.

This was the part that mattered and the only part I did. and THANK YOU
Just glad to help any way I can.

Okay success, to make it work I don't rename bootanimation.zip to sanim.zip I let the original bootanimation.zip and worked.
BTW I founded the same info googleing for it jejejjee
To be honest, I'm not sure which one works. I have them both in there right now. sanim.zip worked for me on FE07, but didn't on FE10...
Going to give it a shot. Thanks for the heads up!

I think what may be going on is that one of the kernels may not have bootanimation support (I see multiple versions of kernels floating around) and that is why using the default animation file is working on one version and the bootanimation is working the way it should on the other. (Sorry, can't remember which way it went LOL)
Well I did this:
1. Rename /system/bin/samsungani to something else... (eg samsungani.old)
2. Rename /system/bin/bootanimation to /system/bin/samsungani
Then grabbed a boot animation zip file and made two copies of that.
Named one: sanim.zip
Named the other: bootanimation.zip
Copied both of those zips to the
/system/media/
folder,
set permissions and it worked.
I am using sfhub's plus kernel.
if you can get the animations in .qmg format, you can just overwrite the original files in /system/media. i pulled bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg from calk's rom and used those.
quick and easy.
I've been using the particles Boot Animation for a while on GB.
I am running Calks 1.5, ICS 4.0.3 at the moment. Would a few of you mind checking out the attached flashable zip for me. Just the one color for now. Thanks.
Edit: I'm still on FD26, please test this on the latest kernel releases as well.

Custom Boots

Have a nandroid backup just in case something goes wrong, Ive softbricked before many times actually just for trying to change a bootanimation. It can happen.
If you already have been using data/local for install location and its working for you great. I just noticed that i used my steps below but left out changing installation directory, so ive been installing to my data/local and my changes have been taking effect. After installing bootanimations i noticed my location was data/local then i went to change it to system/media and install a animation and nothing changes. So i am using data/local now as my target, im guessing if i were just to delete the boot zip from data/local my system/media bootzip will play only because i have a bootanimation.zip already installed to that directory as well, im not going to try it yet but maybe on a rainy day with downtime on my hands ill try it. But after all said the locations of install are working just fine, in the OP instructions are just one way of setting a valid default installation. Im guessing which ever location you started using first is the location you should continue to use.
Btw im on kuban2.1, stock FI27 , init.d support enabled

you can download xxxxxxxxxxGIF.zip and rename the extension to .gif and then use RomToolBox to Automate the install. You need help just ask ill do my best.
INSTRUCTIONS BELOW
NOTE:"Before using romtoolbox"Open romtoolbox go to bootanimations, press your menu softkey, press install location, change common locatioms value to /system/media/ select ok. Now If you are using a stock rom but a kernel that supports boot animation (and you are rooted), using rootexplorer or a similiar app go into system/bin. Find samsungani and rename it to samsungani.bak. Now find bootanimation in system/bin and rename bootanimation to samsungani. Thats it. Now all bootanimations correctly placed in the system/media will work upon boot... "
After the above has been setup on your device you can now navigate to your gif file in a file explorer app. Once you click the gif file window pops up and use gif to bootanimation, then choose to install..
or
ONLY IF YOU ALREADY COMPLETED THE STEPS ABOVE;
If you already completed the above steps with naming samsungai to samsungani.bak, and bootanimation to samsungani in the /system/bin, and changed location install to /system/media/ then you can download the bootanimation.zip and manually copy paste it into /system/media/ via root explorer or you could even open romtoolbox goto bootanimations then choose local tab then find the bootanimation.zip click it then choose install, then reboot your phone.
Because this site has bugs when uploading i have to name bootanimations over and over again (they get overwritten) so you have to rename the bootanimation after downloading to bootanimation.zip

Stock boot animations QMG files anyone?

Dear All,
I just bought a 32gb i9300 originally on swisscom (no restrictions) . The most annoying thing is the boot and shutdown animations and sounds. I tried available options on my phone but most of them are bootanimation.zip file where my phone being stock uses qmg files. installed one available from one of the threads but now the startup is messed (see attachements).
the one was downloaded from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984035
Is there any brother out there who can provide me with 100% original boot qmg files? i.e.bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg with original boot and shutdown sounds since the ones installed are of an annoying lady singing lalalala???
I will be grateful...
Thanks
Boot qmg only .

Try Perkas file stash for the others or extract from a stock rom .
Boot zip only work with modified rom or kernel .

Bundle of thanks brother....:victory:
stock boot animation and manual debloat
I don't remember where I got my qmg files but I attached them to this post.they work. there are only two files bootsamsungloop.qmg and bootsamsung.qmg.. I followed the instructions given but they failed to instruct me to open the files with a script executor. these are the steps that worked for me.
1. copy files to sdcard. I used internal or phone.
2. using a file explorer , I used root explorer mount system/media r/w then delete bootsamsung.qmg ,. bootsamsungloop.qmg and also delete the file in the video folder called shutdown.qmg.
3 go back to sdcard and copy the two files bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg paste both files to directory system/media.
4. change permissions to rw-r--r-- for both files, change ownership to 0-root for both files also I changed the group to1023
-media-rw you might also be able to change group to 0-root not sure if that would work though.
5.finally I opened each file with Linux script handler and executed both,
6, reboot and watched the stock animation boot . I don't remember there being any shutdown animation on the unbranded rom.
I couldn't flash this through odin and I don't use custom recoveries or kernels . It took me about two days to figure out how to get back to stock animation..
also I found this link very useful to manually debloat my GT-I9300, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqTvctlW89DtdC1qVUlLeVFTV3ZOdUtDclpBdVRQOUE&pli=1#gid=0 . have fun! EDIT UNABLE TO UPLOAD QMG FILES. first try it said server busy second try it said invalid files. maybe because qmg is not listed under valid file extensions. sorry for that.

S3 Matrix Boot animation for STOCK ROM

I've searched and searched but could never find a Matirx code rain boot animation made for the Samsung Galaxy S3 for a STOCK ROM. Bootanimation.zip files don't work on a stock ROM for the S3 so I took some of the better ones I found in zip files and converted them to the .qmg files that the S3 wants. I've included the boot animation as well as the shutdown animation and the Matrix sounds for them also.
You do need to have ROOT to install these and ROOT Explorer is recommended to copy them into the right folders and change permissions. If you aren't rooted I highly recommend 'towelroot' and it doesn't get any easier than that app for rooting.
Download my zip file then:
- rename your existing files (the ones that have the same names as I have included in the Zip file) in the folders listed below to something else you will remember like bootsamsung.bak and do this for each file you will be replacing with ones I have included in the Zip file.
- I suggest a complete backup with TWRP in case anything goes wrong. If you don't have TWRP get it - best thing going and I also use an app called 'Quickboot' which lets you get into TWRP recovery without having to do the 3 finger grip on the buttons you normally need to do to get into recovery.
- copy bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg to your system/media folder with Root Explorer
- use Root explorer change permissions on them to rw-rr
- copy the *.ogg (sound) files to system/media/audio/ui folder
- copy shutdown.qmg to system/media/video/shutdown folder
- use Root explorer change permissions on them to rw-rr
Reboot and enjoy a reminder of one of the best movies ever made !
I wish I could recall where all the parts for the above animations came from but I am not sure. Some probably came from xda forum so if any of these were from something you created I'll gladly give credit. I did have to resize exactly 100 pictures to make them the correct size for the Galaxy S3. However the shutdown animation came from somewhere else and did not need to be resized or rebuilt. I used Samsung's Theme Designer to convert the files to the needed qmg format for Galaxy's. There is about 3 pages of instructions on how to do that Here
The .ogg files were from my own collection of Matrix sound files and ringtones and used another program to convert them from MP3's to OGG files.
BTW if I am wrong about not being able to use bootanimation.zip files on a Galaxy S3 please let me know. I tried every way to Sunday to try using them but had no luck. I don't mind flashing a good ROM but I don't trust flashing a bootanimation file and I'm not even sure you can do that on a stock S3 ROM. If anyone has more info on that please post here. I've still got a lot to learn

Backup - just copy your current/default boot animation that is located on /system/media to any location in your SD card.
Permission - After copying over your boot animation hold all of the files and and tap on permission and tick them like this
rwx rw- rw- or 766. If you find it confusing just look at the screenshot below.
Random boot animation... Not sure? :silly:
