Bloomberg Radio app?? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys,
I am quite new to this system.
I can't believe a simple task in iOS can be such a hassle here.
I am a normal business users that I want to turn on bloomberg radio while I am on the go.
There is the official Bloomberg Radio app in iPhone which works alright. But when I turned to Android. I am stuck at this simple apps is missing out of 500,000+ android apps??
I did my homework before asking.
Tune-in had WBBR AM 1130 . It was the PAST. For some reasons, it stopped working a few days ago. That really pissed me off because their official pages seems still include Bloomberg Radio as part of their marketing info.
And Sirius XM has bloomberg radio too! But damn after 7 days you need to pay at least 10 USD a month to keep this one station available to you.
Question:
IS THERE ANY WAY TO JUST HAVE THIS STATION? Any apps? I could not care less about having all fancy Pops/Hiphop/Rock and Roll stations like all radio apps provide. I just need this one. It is a multi-year habit that you wake up, you want to get this radio on at the back ground.
And no, I don't want to go back to iPhone just for this reason.
Help please.
I love Android. I am sure powerful and helpful users here can give me some suggestions!
Cheers!!

Quick search for bloomberg radio in the android market shows bloomberg doesn't seem to provide an official application for this on android. Might be worth asking bloomberg when they will be releasing this?
As to a short term/immediately solution, there appears to be a 99 cent app released yesterday/today which claims to use the flash player and provide Bloomberg radio - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jay.mybr . In the description it says, "Currently
1. Tune-in Radio's WBBR channel stopped working a few days ago
2. Sirius XM's WBBR channel requires subscription of at least 10 USD/month after 7 days trial.
3. Bloomberg Radio Official Android App is NEVER available , though promised to be coming soon. " Seems to match your situation.
As a side technical note, it mentions uses Bloomberg's Radio web site, perhaps this is accessible through just the web browser bypassing the need to pay 99 cents for this application? One route could be through their mobile site: http://mobile.bloomberg.com/ ?
Seems bloomberg doesnt provide their radio app for Android .. not sure why: http://www.bloomberg.com/mobile/
Hope something in there helps!

Thanks for replying!
Looks like I am really a small user group then since so many glanced at the question but no solutions.
Thanks you pointing to a good choice...
but it is charging 99cents for using bloomberg's flash to play its radio?
hmmm...take as back up then.
But thanks!

Thanks..
Problem using browser is that whenever you screen goes off, the sound will be cut off. And you can't afford to keep screen on just to listen to this thing... even using Razr Maxx...
anyways call me crazy but I decided to bite the bullet and buy that 99 cent app. Anyway it is even less than the tips I pay to the velvet guy to park my car and the dev seems to be quite active in making the thing better. . .

I encountered the same problem. I've found that several stations stream Bloomberg for several hours in the morning (First Word, Surveillance) and afternoon (Taking Stock). Try these on TuneIn: biz 1190, 1070 WTWK, Money 105.5 FM.

How is that app? I'm in the same boat. I went back to my iPhone just so I can use the Bloomberg Radio+ app.

mobi tv unlimited no longer working?

is it just me, or is the mobi tv unlimited cab no longer...unlimited? it now goes to the "Buy me" now page.
Not just you...
my MobiTV goes to the same "buy now" page. Im a little disappointed because I really liked that program. Probably the only TV software worth using (as far as I know). sad thing is, I would buy it for $50 or less, or maybe $5/ month. There is no way I'm gonna pay $10 monthly though. For what? 20 minutes every few days? I checked out Flo TV also...looks nice. Once again, I'm not going to subscribe to overpriced (up to $25/month) TV on my phone. maybe one of these companies will figure out that if they charge a reasonable ($5 or less) monthly price, or a decent flat rate, people will actually buy their software instead of hacking at it. In the mean time, does anyone know of a decent program at a more reasonable price? ...I tried e-mobile TV, but i thought it was terrible. Im definitely not looking for obscure material to watch during my commute... I want the essentials.

not real tv but at least multiple video sources to stream and also wiki
try vtap it is nice and works great on ppc by 3g or wifi
I totally agree, developing these apps should be lucrative for developers, their time is money; but the price point for the majority of these apps are strangely rediculous. 15 dollars for a twenty year old pong game, 10 dollars a month for bite size low quality t.v. snippets? Not to mention 40 dollars for an IM plus app. Would aol IM be as popular as it is if everyone had to shell out 40 smackers? Makes me wonder how much apple's gonna charge for apps that decade old phones have had all along
Dunno if these devs smoke...
Like Dave Chappelle said, "that's crack prices''!!
Anyone with an answer to the original question? I know we can't go into to much detail here but, anyone?????????? If you do not want to post the answer here, how about referring us some where else.

one word for you: slingbox
I just reinstalled the MobiTV v2 cab again, and it is working, ... but I'm not sure if it's going to keep going after the 3-day trail version is over?
Radio...Hmmmmm
Since the last time I tried i upgraded my ROM to "Dutty's Hybrid 6.1 WWE lite" and Radio 1.65.14.06. I just installed the .cab it it does seem to be working again, but wreckerdude is right. lets see if it continues to work after 3 days!
I think it might...because before i flashed my rom / radio, i tried to reinstall several versions with no luck at all. No matter what i got the "buy me" screen. If it does work again, my question is this. How does changing the radio effect MobiTV at all? anyone know? lets wait a few days and discuss.

Desire -> Win Mo 6.1

Good Afternoon,
My contract was up for renewal couple of days ago and I had my sights on getting and HD2 but my provider discontinued it and wont let me have it any more. They only WinMo phone they had was the HD Mini which I don't like so I have been forced over to Google Android.
Now while I have seen Google Andoid and do like the UI and what I have seen of it I am a VB.NET Programmer and make custom apps for my mobile that I rely on So I am a bit stuck when I get my new phone.
Has anyone has any sucess with gettin WinMo 6.1 onto the Desire, I know spec wise it can easily handle it (alot better then my current HD1) as ultimately thats what I think I want to do...
Regards,
Max
I doubt you will ever see windows on the desire.
It's like buying a state of the art tv and changing the settings to black and white and watching a movie from a video cassette player through a scart lead with a pair of headphones on.
lol not quite the same is it!
I was just wondering because in the last couple of years I have seen Google Android installed on many WinMo phones sucessfully so thought it must be possible the other way round.
Its not because I am a huge MS fan (ok I probably am) but mainly for being able to put my apps on the device. I run my own company and have my own customised tools like job timing and invoice generation all from my mobile (communicating with my backend sql server) and returning an invoice (which I then print out with my in car printer )
Try looking at this thread.
It gets asked almost weekly, and is getting exceedingly irritating for many because if you'd searched for "Windows Mobile", you'd have found it, and others like it, yourself!
My suggestion to you is that if you want a WinMo phone, sell or trade your Desire for an HD2.
Regards,
Dave
Sorry for asking such a frequent question. I normally do make use of search...
I suppose its going to be impossible to get a .net program working on android as well because if that was possible i would be happy lol

I believe there has been some work done on getting Mono (the *nix port of .Net) running on Android - Google seems to kind of agree (I searched)
John
You'd need to get someone to completely rewrite the boot system, and even then you wouldn't get all the hardware working, nevermind the fact that there's a completely different cache/memory structure.
Well, Novell will supposedly support Mono on Android at some point this year, which may at least get you partially there (see here)
Regards,
Dave
Can buy my old HD2 if you want, Max? 4 months old, completely stock and unlocked/unbranded. Got it as an upgrade but now got a Desire so it's sat in the box doing sweet FA...
MonoDroid is entering public beta it seems.

Was looking about £300 ono - phone is like new and I'd buy a new oem pouch for it too as the original one is a bit stretched
None of the accessories have been opened as I've had HTC phones before so not needed to use them. Only thing that wouldn't be with it is the CoPilot trial as I formatted the SD card so the mapping isn't there...whether you can download the maps from somewhere I don't know
Yeh I was looking at Mono before I read all of these posts. I don't quite fully understand how it works etc I am purley a Windows Engineer so never really touched Linux and the likes.
So with Mono can you still develop .net apps in Visual Studio and then run them using this 'Mono' and if it is that simple are there limitations. I need to do some more reading up on this and learn some more. Still got about 8 Days until T-Mobile deliver my Desire then got 7 days to send it back if I don't like it (which I am sure I will as I do like Android it was just the fact that my custom built software that was the issue)
I would take you up on that offer if I had the money
£300 is quite far out of my price range so sadly I won't be able to buy it off you. If I can have patients I can buy and HD2 fully working at some point during the next 14 months but prob nearer the end of that time and I can't wait that long lol.
Sending you PM. Im interested.

Yeh thanks for the offer if I had the money I would deff take it up or even shop around for one but got to rely on my contract and T-mobile for my phones :-(
At least they let me negotiate contracts with them. They normally give in to what I want. Probably the fact I have been a loyal customer with them for 7 years and brought quite a few customers to them

I don't know any professional programmers that would only know one language and not be able to migrate within a few days/weeks. Let WinMo 6 die, finally.
I am not a 'Professional' programmer still 'upcoming' programmer. VB.NET and ASP.NET are the two languages (although asp use vb.net) I know and still learning. I only recently (~3 years) started to fiddle with programming and all self taught my main job is Network Admin at the company I am employeed at which I am just developing them a mobile app but also registered as a sole trader and I have a couple of really useful apps that I programmed to help me run my business (like when I am out on jobs)
At the moment I have nowhere near enough time to learn another language.

What are some thing that will sell me on keeping my Nexus (Bell)

I am currently on my 14 day trial for my Galaxy Nexus from Bell (Canada). I did a lot of research before I bought the phone and these last few days I've been testing things and trying to find stuff to make me say "this is my phone". I've been an iPhone user for 2.5 years but my crappy old 3g couldn't handle things anymore. I needed a business phone for browsing , email, etc. I'm sure there'll be an iPhone 5 so I'm not sure if its worth getting into a contract extension on this phone.
Furthermore it seems like a lot of people keep saying gs2 > gn. I've noticed a few disappointing things (camera and speaker) on the gn so far but nothing that screams get the older phone. As of now though I also haven't found any "I need an android/nexus for this" reasons to keep this phone. Mostly I've been finding workarounds for stuff like text notifications. What are some real user things to make me love this phone (I already like it just not sure its worth the contract).
Tl;dr : what's some cool apps/things you can do with a Droid/nexus that makes you say "I need it".
Also side question: I currently have a seven dollar a month warranty for smashing it, can I root then unroot and still cash in on that warranty? Might not be easy if I destroy it lol.
Manually flash 4.0.4 and experience the power.
bow chicka wow wow.

Its all about your personal preference, really. If you don't like using the phone or you don't see yourself using it for 1, 2, 3 years... then don't get it. Obviously people here in the GNex forum will be biased towards telling you that the GNex is best and wouldn't dare recommend an iPhone or even another Android phone.

Accidental damage warranties don't care if you've rooted. You're paying monthly and a deductible. Considering you just hit it with a hammer, they won't care if you rooted it.

So this isn't like PSP modification where older is better haha? Still on 4.0.1 because I noticed people saying they reverted from 4.0.4. I should mention that a few of the cool features I was looking forward to (Google wallet and Google voice) aren't officially available in canada, which I'm sure you guys know. This spurred my deeper research because they were cool points for me.

there are ways around it. just gotta search. but seriously, flash .4 before you make your decision. there is a radio issue on .4 but not everybody is affected and there are easy workarounds.
Hello there,
the best way to answer your own question " What are some thing that will sell me on keeping my Nexus (Bell) " is :
to write down a list of your daily tasks and why you will need this phone for.. and go from there > see how the Galaxy Nexus is handling your needs !
You may not even need to root or anything ...
Good Luck !
So if I flash it (is that rooms?) I can unflash it and take it back no problem with my trial period?
@martonikaj:
I read the link for your go prepaid thing in your sig. It has me intrigued. Do you know if that's possible in Canada? I know the compete rate is a lot lower in Canada than the US between different providers. If possible Id just pick up a nexus from somewhere and do the same stuff?

Largely I like a good portion of simplicity (why I liked iOS) though I enjoy customization. I am a computer science student so the prospects of modding and development are cool to me but I'm not too far into my program. After my last two PC's had hardware failures I bought a mac for reliability while I build a new one this summer so it feels weird to ditch the apple connectivity.
you flash roms and yes you can revert it back to stock if you wish.
I don't think we should have to sell the phone to you, if you're not impressed with it take it back. I'm happy to find and implement hacks and mods to tailor my phone to the way I want it, I must have ten unique kernel mods alone.
I've been flashing ROMs for years now, I don't know what I'd do if I ever got a phone out of the box that didn't need modding. The world would be a more boring place to me, that's for sure.

I would recommend that you just save your 20 dollars and wait till the new E-Pebble watch is released in the market. You can pre-order the watch right now as i have. I have a live view and it is extremely poor with ice cream sandwich. No plug-ins work at the moment. The only good use i can see with this is to connect it to your phone at the time of a test and send yourself all the answers to the test and you'll be able to view the answers on the little liveview.
the best it can do for me is control your music player whiles using my expensive headphones connected to the phone, other features are slow, and takes time connecting.

Everywhere if you use Google.
I ordered one. Should be here next week. Just wanted to try it out.
i was wondering if the firmware is hackable? does it run some version of android or a custom firmware?
I also just bought one because it's cheap. I searched online for ways to make it work with ICS and I found this. I didn't write this howto, just passing it along.
1) Install ADW Launcher
2) Open ADW Launcher, longpress on the homescreen and create a "Custom Shortcut"
3) when selecting the shortcut target select "Activity"
4) Search the Plugin within the list and select the "****Preference" subnode
5) Press OK
6) Click on the new shortcut so that the preferences of the plugin will open
7) check the "Enabled" checkbox of the plugin
8) you are done the plugin should work now... but you need to restart LiveView-App to see them!
9) revert back to your launcher of choice.
Also install liveviewcharm app from the market, and that will solve the connection issues.
So I also got this watch, but there is one thing that really annoys me, the watch never reconnects by him self, the phone always asks to confirm the bluetooh passkey, can I overtake this issues ?
Thanks
I just wanted to say that I bought one figuring "for $20, how bad could it be?". The answer is, REALLY bad. The fact that someone ever thought this was a commercially sellable product is absurd. It's borderline unusably bad at the things it's supposed to do, and sure, there's a bit of third party development going on for it, but what I really wasn't prepared for is how cheap and shoddy the thing is. It's just not worth owning at any price point. Save your $20 and buy yourself some beers or something. You'll thank me later.

Jawbone UP or other????

Ive been looking for a good workout app + workout monitor. Jawbone seems to be pretty cool but ive checked all my local stores and no one sells it. Anyone use this personally or any other measuring device that syncs with your phone? Suggestions? Reviews?
Thanks!
I got a new one off CL for <$100. I like it. They sell them at Apple stores of all places and this guy worked there so was just making a little extra money on the side with his discount.
There aren't a whole lot of choices out there for Android users in this area. I think the Fidbit is the only other option. The Fidbit uses bluetooth to sync which a lot of people seem to like but I think it's a negative as you are forced to use unnecessary battery power from your phone. The upside is you can sync to your laptop or computer. The UP syncs with your phone via the headphone jack.
You've probably read about all the features so I won't list them again. It is not a heart beat monitor; it uses motionX technology, 3-axis accelerometer I believe, to monitor your "steps". It's best to wear on your non-dominant arm so you don't register as many fake steps. I really like the sleep mode as it tells you how long it took you to fall asleep, how many hours of light sleep, deep sleep, how many times you woke up, and it has a vibrating smart alarm that will wake you up at your alarm time +/- a certain number of minutes you set so it can try to wake you up during light sleep instead of deep sleep.
The app is well made and looks good with many graphing options to see trends in your steps, calorie intake, mood, sleep, etc. It also allows you to add your food for the day and add nutritional information if you can't find your food in their database. However, after using the myfitnesspal app for quite a while I find it is easier to use, better laid out, and has a much bigger database of foods, mostly because so many users have uploaded nutritional information for so many different foods. I find myself still using myfitnesspal instead of the built in UP food logging, but maybe I'm resisting change and haven't given it a fair chance.
The battery really does last a long time, 8-10 days per charge.
I'm happy with it, will continue to use it and hope they will improve their food logging database. I'm not sure I'd pay $130+ tax for it but maybe I'm cheap. Take a look on your local CL.

Ive been looking for a good workout app + workout monitor. Jawbone seems to be pretty cool but ive checked all my local stores and no one sells it. Anyone use this personally or any other measuring device that syncs with your phone? Suggestions? Reviews?
Thanks!

Bought mine off CL for $65 (REALLY good deal). Liking it so far. Went for the UP because it tracks sleep as well as steps, eating, mood, etc. And the android app was a must. Had this for a week and a half and am really liking the data provided.
Now my UP band is telling me it's time to MOVE again; gotta go. Good luck!
Just bought mines from best buy today. I had some stuff that I needed to return so I figured I would just exchange the stuff for the UP. I was really considering the fitbit flex but best buy was out of stock everywhere in my area so I figured I would try the UP and exchange for the flex later on once they are in stock and if I'm not happy with the UP. I'm really looking to be more conscious of my physical activities that's why I decided to go with one of these bands.

How's the jawbone quality? I saw tons of posting in Amazon that said the DOA rate for it is really high...

I've seen several posts saying the same thing in the UP forums. For me, with a used band, it's been working flawlessly for over two months.
Based on what I've read, I would try to buy from an Authorized retailer, or Jawbone itself. It appears as though they will immediately exchange any defective band if you do so. HTH
I am searching Jawbone site and it said that it is compatible with SELECT phones only. Not sure what makes it so, but I have a Galaxy Note and since the Jawbone Up does not have Bluetooth (Galaxy Note only have Bluetooth 3.0, not 4.0), what is it that will make this thing NOT working for other phone like the Galaxy Note?

It syncs through the audio jack, not Bluetooth. There are some older phones that it won't sync with for some reason and at one point it was having trouble with the HTC One - but I think that was fixed in an update. I would download the app and have it on my phone when I went shopping - that way you could test to make sure it would sync before you plopped down your hard-earned cash.
Also, FWIW, I found the app and sideloaded it onto my Galaxy Tab 8.9. (Google Play said it wasn't compatible.) Works okay, but some of the graphics are a little off.
I have a Bodymedia Link that works great. It syncs via Bluetooth and you can upload the data via your phone to their website. Mine was $99 and came with a six month subscription to the website. (The subscription thing kept me away from this device, but depending on where you buy it (like Costco), you can get up to a year's subscription free.)
Here's a link to their site, but I purchased my BM via eBay:

I also have a FitBit and the numbers seem pretty consistent between the two - but I prefer the BodyMedia. I think Jawbone recently purchased BodyMedia.
Here's a recent comparison article on activity trackers:

LG is supposed to come out with a pretty impressive tracker. Waiting to hear if it tracks sleep as well.
