Did you wipe everything before doing the restore? I would boot to recovery go to advanced and wipe dalvik-cache, then go back to the main menu and go to mounts and storage and format everything except sdcard and emmc. Then restore your backup and see if it works.

if you are using 5.0.2.0 switch back to 3.0.0.8 for cwm. I never had a succesful restore with 5020

Nandroid backups

Hi I have taken a few Nandroid backups, using CWM 2.5.1.3. However wheni restore the backups from within CWM, i just get the white HTC boot screen and it never goes any further.
The backups appear to be there ok, and listed with date and time they were made, and they appear to restore successfully. But the phone just never boots up?
Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

You should wipe everything (data/cache/dalvik cache) before restoring a backup. Try that.
Yes also you can add boot, system and sd-ext (if you use one) before you restore a backup, go to the mounts and storage menu, wipe "boot, system, cache, data, sd-ext, come out of that menu, go to advanced, wipe the dalvik cache too. Also remember if you had alot of apps, 1st boot after the restore can take up to 15 mins, this is because dex-opt and the dalvik vm are busy

Thanks for the replies. Tried all that but still not working for me. Been sat at the white HTC screen for about 30 mins now, doesnt look like the restore has worked again.
Try with usb debugging on

Is your CWM 3.0.0.6? if not, update it

[Q] Boot Loop after restoring

Hello
i have a boot loop after restoring a backup, because after installing 'gapps' to the Cyanogenmod 7, it didn't work anymore
So i went into the Recovery mode to restore the backup.
But after restoring is the splash screen in a booting loop.
What can i do now?
There isn't another backup on my sd card
Is it possible to install another Rom directly from the recovery menu?

brandall, thankyou, I was in a nandroid-restore-boot-loop and your tip about not restoreing 'boot' saved me too (messinga around with my brothers Desire and I don't want him kicking my ass becaused of needing an unwanted full wipe)
but it's strange that an nandroid of a fully working installation fails when restored :S (had the same HBOOT when backup and restore, and the restore was made 15 minutes after creation :S )
Go into recovery, wipe everything and restore backup.

Yes we both did that, but somehow the backup went broken.
I tried wipeing EVERYTHING and restore backup maybe 5 times, but boot loop every time.
So the solution was to wipe and do an advanced restore were you restored ext, system, data and cache.
But NOT restore Boot!

[Q] cant nand restore! HELP!!!

I'm sorry if this has already been covered but I couldn't find anything exactly like my problem..I am running an EVO on mikG with a partitioned SD and a2sd with amonRA recovery.. the other day things started acting funny so I cleared the cache and dalvik and when I rebooted it looked like a factory reset of my phone or like my SD-ext wasn't there anymore.. I tried to do a nandroid restore and it just says oops something went wrong.. can anyone tell me if I have to do anything special to restore with an ext3 or not? When I backed it up I backed up all the available options.. ???????????
OK don't panic what I did (and there is no guarantee) is flash the ROM again, reboot completely, boot back into recovery and then re-apply your back up. it worked for me on MIUI but like I said no guarantees
best of luck.
Actually, flash recovery again. I've had that happen a few times and reflashing recovery worked everytime
Ok.. I upgraded from RA 2.3 to 3.11.. and now I had the options to choose what to restore.. its the sd-ext that is hanging everything up.. if I just check whatever is standard it restores but all of my apps are still gone.. so I went back and added sd-ext and got the error.. then I tried only marking sd-ext and still nothing.. what do I troubleshoot next???

Gnex won't boot, error restoring data cwm 5.5.0.6

After I had put a brand new bootanimation onto my JB Rom I had accidently pressed "Fix permission" in recovery while I was in CWM, but it booted fine. I rebooted to see the animation again and it got stuck at the "Google" splash screen. Okay So I restored my Bone stock ICS rom and forgot it had only the original recovery so Im probably unrooted now lol. I factory reset in stock recovery since it was still boot looping and I finally booted my phone but, What Happened?? I read that the full touch very of CWM or TWRP prevents the error in restoring data from Recorvery backups. should I update my CWM?
Aw man... when you factory reset in the stock recovery. That formats the sdcard. That is probably why?

Yeah, not sure how you're even seeing the nandroid on there.
It should be wiped out...unless you restored it?
But yeah, if your backups are >2 gigs CWM 5 won't restore. It will fail on Data.
Same with TWRP 2.0.2
Both TWRP 2.2.0 and CWM 6 split the images so this isn't a problem.
However, your old backups still can't be restored.
You CAN flash a rom...and restore your user apps with Titanium Backup (Pro only, I think) from your old CWM nandroid.
That's what I'd do to get you back.

Oh no I restored my stock rom that I had backed up prior to flashing superuser via CWM. So after I restored my stock rom and data failed for that restore, I attempted to boot and it just started boot looping. so I had to fastboot into recovery mode again which took me to stock recovery and I wiped Everything from there, then I finally booted. I think I just need to get the newest versions of CWM or TWRP. lol

[Q] nandroid restore stuck on splash screen

Here's the situation, I was on cm nightlies 4.3, made a nandroid of it then I odin'd back to stock 4.1.1 so I could unlock. After that I rooted and flashed cwm touch 6.0.4.3, format /system and /data wiped cache, dalvik and tried to restore my backup, it seems as everything restored correctly but then it gets stuck on splash screen.

you need to go back to the recovery you used to make the nandroid with if you want to use it; also, some times you can't restore a 4.3 backup when you are on 4.1..
