Hello
i have a boot loop after restoring a backup, because after installing 'gapps' to the Cyanogenmod 7, it didn't work anymore
So i went into the Recovery mode to restore the backup.
But after restoring is the splash screen in a booting loop.
What can i do now?
There isn't another backup on my sd card
Is it possible to install another Rom directly from the recovery menu?

brandall, thankyou, I was in a nandroid-restore-boot-loop and your tip about not restoreing 'boot' saved me too (messinga around with my brothers Desire and I don't want him kicking my ass becaused of needing an unwanted full wipe)
but it's strange that an nandroid of a fully working installation fails when restored :S (had the same HBOOT when backup and restore, and the restore was made 15 minutes after creation :S )
Go into recovery, wipe everything and restore backup.

Yes we both did that, but somehow the backup went broken.
I tried wipeing EVERYTHING and restore backup maybe 5 times, but boot loop every time.
So the solution was to wipe and do an advanced restore were you restored ext, system, data and cache.
But NOT restore Boot!

First off sorry if this is answered in another post, lease kindly direct me to the post if it is =)
I just tried to install a second ROM from ROM Manager. I was running DCU and created a back-up in ClockworkMod before I started then installed the new Fresh ROM successfully. When I tried to go back to my first ROM via the restore point I set up it gets stuck in a boot loop. The 2nd restore point from the Fresh ROM loads up just fine.
Is there anyway to fix the older restore point and get back to DCU or should I just wipe everything and reinstall DCU...
Thanks in advanced!
do a data wipe, clear cache and dalvick
Then restore your backup. Clockwork does not seem to like certain roms.

thanks, i was able to wipe everything from the original android recovery mode and upload an old nandroid back up but from Clockwork it didnt seem to clear the dalvik cache, when i clicked clear it just went back to the last menu it never said anything in the log and when i loaded up the Clockwork backup it still didnt work :/
Well i wiped dalvik cache and cache only and now stuck on sasmung logo?? How much time davlik need for rebuilding or I need to restore all backup (waited 15min and nothing)? The all backup restore didnt work too...So factory reset is next right?
The factory reset worked but when restoreing backup its the same thing. Pls help where could be the problem in backup (system,boot,data...)

Really no idea, maybe some file corrupted.
You can use odin pc to install stock rom. After successfully reboot then root it and do restore again.
Good luck.

What do you want to restore? Did you already have Perseus kernel when you did the nandroid backup?
How did you made backup?

Yes the persus kernel was instaled when i did nandroid, I used cwm backup to external card, tried to restore one by one but when restoring data i get stuck. I whant to restore everything, thats way I did backup before wipeing dalvik. So only left is flash stock root and try again?
Which error message do you have? Did you move or rename your backup?
Try to go to advanced settings and restore data only.
No error just stuck at boot logo, I tried every combination with system, boot, data restore but nothing, then I restored eariler backup without persus kernel in it and it worked (reverted back to stock kernel) then instaled persus again and its all fine now :good: Do you think there is some problem with backuping when persus kernel is installed?
I didnt now that factory reset with cwm doesnt erase sd internal so I have everthing back in place. Tnx everyone
Nice :good:
I know that we can have some issues when we try to restore a nandroid created from another kernel but nothing special but the Perseus kernel.
But AFAIK there is less problems with TWRP than CWM so it's possible that your problem is a recovery one and your custom kernel doesn't matter. Just try TWRP and let me know
EDIT
Factory reset only erases /data and /cache folders
I tried with TWRP and no problem with backup or restore :good: tnx
Here's the situation, I was on cm nightlies 4.3, made a nandroid of it then I odin'd back to stock 4.1.1 so I could unlock. After that I rooted and flashed cwm touch 6.0.4.3, format /system and /data wiped cache, dalvik and tried to restore my backup, it seems as everything restored correctly but then it gets stuck on splash screen.

you need to go back to the recovery you used to make the nandroid with if you want to use it; also, some times you can't restore a 4.3 backup when you are on 4.1..

I knew about that already thanks but still didn't work, and I i even flashed the cm rom then tried to restore backup but didn't work either. I just restored my phone data via sms/call log restore and tib but would like to know how to fix this in the future.
Hey guys, Im having a huge issue. When I restore my TWRP nandroid backup, the device is stuck in boot, forever. Ive tried multiple twrp backups and it happens with each one. And if i restore only data, i get a bootloop. Lmfao. Not funny thought. I need my phone back!
When i restore, I clear dalvik and cache, via the advanced option of twrp wipe. What else are you supposed to do? before this was all I needed to do! Is that not the case with new samsungs? Please help!
EDIT:
If I reflash the firmware with odin, after restoring with twrp, all my data is lost. So the twrp backup is useless and we are back where we started, if i restore tha backup with twrp, it doesnt boot its stuck on boot screen. I dont see any option in odin to not erase the data, there is a ”nand erase” option, but its not ticked.
HELP!
Thanks in advance!
So I made a backup through OrangeFox of my A13 AOSP rom (checked every option). Now I tried to restore the backup and the restore goes normally but when I reboot to system it shows Poco logo for couple seconds then reboots to recovery and internal memory is messed up. I formatted data and tried installing the rom then restoring data alone, then data and super system, Ans the result was the same which is the rom animation starts and "starting Android" loading screen appears but never goes away. Any idea on how to get it working?
Thanks in advance
Are you trying to restore the Backup after you formated data/reflashed ROM ?
I trusted TWRP backups twice, and both times it failed.
I think to backup /data, you also have to backup /metadata, because /metadata stores the encryption-key for /data.
I also recommend the app "Swift Backup" from Play Store, it's the best app for backing up apps + appdata, messages, and call history. Requires Root to backup app-data of course.

Yeah seems like is a tough (or impossible) mission to recover a backup in alioth.
I've done twice too, and both didn't booted too.
And this in twrp skkk, so I guess it's the same thing in all recoveries.

Okay so I figured it out. You basically need to flash the same backed-up rom first and fully boot it to system. This will take care of encryption, then reboot to recovery, then restore your backup (boot/data/super). At this point reboot won't work yet. You need to go back to recovery and reflash the rom again then boot into system. For me it booted once but the status bar was missing. I did a restart and voila! It worked.

Thanks for sharing your solution!
Sounds a bit quirky but I'm glad someone got TWRP Backup Restores working!
Man the bloody forced encryption.. i hate it.
