[Q] Internet Pass-through for Custom Roms Please !!!! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using different Roms, but I finally settled on HTC sense ones, just because they have this
"Internet Pass-through"
feature, which lets a person use the DSL line internet connection from PC TO Phone for internet....
I can't now use other roms at all, because all of them lack this feature
Can anyone please somehow extract this Internet pass through feature from HTC sense roms and make it available for ALL ROMS. I am sure a lot of people need this .....
Regards....

It worked for me so hopefully it will work for you. It's not perfect but its better than nothing.

Yeah, you have to go through alot to get connected, and once you are,
you can't even download an app from Market....
Can't anyone just port this feature from Sense ROms to custom Roms??
Can't post in Developers' forum, they say I am too noob to ask in Developers' forum

There is nothing wrong in sense roms but I saw some aosp rom with that but I can't remember it's name.....a year back I think...

Internet pass-through shouldn't be restricted.

Thanks for the reply shubhamchamaria
In fact I have been using your runny rom for quite a while now, I would appreciate your ingenious design.. Ran very well until I updated it to 5.5, and ran into some issues...
Internet pass-through is such a HUGE feature, it shouldn't be restricted to a particular set of ROMS, it's unjust with it...
Can any real developer just strip it off Sense ROms for custom roms ???

Android with HTC Sense from Bravo

I've just been playing with Android with HTC Sense from the Bravo on my TP2 - how come nobody's trying to get this working fully? It boots and works ok but there's no data conection but HTC Sense is really good!
Anyone working on this HTC Sense build of Android?
are you cdma or gsm? I think the cdma version works but I haven't had any luck with mine, but it does run brilliantly on my tp2!
it does crash on opening a number of programs and isn't able to establish a connection, if the developers could sort this out then it would be amazing!

There are people working on this, yes. However a data connection is pretty important on a Smartphone, almost useless without it. So we stay with 2.01 for now. LOL

im not developer but it makes sense to me for work to be done on the most up to date version available, otherwise in the future the efforts will just be doubled? but i guess if those developers are happy with an outdated android that's cool for them (i get my desire in a few days so it doesn't bother me!)
Im a sense android by klinux user...
maybe its because Im in USA now and I cant use all the same data connection (cause of cost) but I prefer the sense version without data than the normal one...
anyway...keep up on working on fully data connection and I will be the king of happy mans!!!

Having said that, it's as useful as 2.01 to me - a Smartphone without sound is pointless too, IMHO.

Android guy here. Is there any possibility that the APNs list used in the 2.1 versions you guys are testing aren't the same as those in 2.0.1? Other than that and the ril, there's nothing else in android that changes between versions that would prevent a data connection.

Touche, to each their own. I have to keep my phone on silent at work, so for me thats not as big of an issue. I did just recently get a JVC deck with BT support, and I feel like a traitor switching back to WinMo so I can listen to music.

anybody get wifi working??
Just tried it. Really nice after everything is done loading. The data, wifi, and even the wireless settings don't work. Tried the fm radio with no luck. But overall with just data working would make this far better than 2.1 or 2.0.1, i dunno which one they're on. Also the ram after load was around 36-40 and then after closing everything it was 56. Not horrible, but could be improved. Ummm i don't think power off works either, but i just reset after waiting 2 minutes. This is amazing though, i've been waiting for sense on rhodium ever since i got the phone and finally i get to try it. Sweet stuff guys keep up the great work.

Are you on a sense rom? It may only be messed up on aosp roms. Almost every rom page I go to on xda will say "not working: 4G & HDMI"
It is only AOSP roms that it doesn't work. This is because the hdmi code isn't open source so it can't be incorporated into anything other sense based roms.

Yes I use sense, you are correct no HDMI in AOSP ROMs. Sorry if you said AOSP I didn't see that. Need to start reading all the words. I think once they iron out the 4G issues they may focus on HDMI. I think just getting 4G working was using up all their resources.
HDMI isn't in AOSP ROMs because HTC has not released the source code, and only one dev is working on reverse-engineering it. However, his biggest problem is that the EVO's GPU is a POS and overheats whenever he enables mirroring (showing on the TV everything that's on the phone's screen).

actually i wasn´t able to look in dev forums, due to my lack of messages, and if I don't have the experence i thought it might be helpfull to ask for suggestions
and my lack of messages is only because i was able to view the dev forums before, and i've been flashing roms for a while, and didn't had the need to be asking around

so this doesn't make any sense ... anyways ... everyone can view dev forums you just can't post in them. Read up on bug list, known issues, what works, and make an educated guess. Flashing a rom isn't serious business, however, that being said if you can't read a change log and test roms out for yourself you probably don't need to be flashing or messing with your phone anyways.
... and on that note..
cool story bro.
I tried all sense 4 roms here, they are all the same and the camera doesnt work....
Its simple, there is no Best rom. This is a development site. Roms made here are not made to be perfect. They are made to learn how to do it and to mess with. If you are not here to learn about development then you are in the wrong place. Oh and you can view the Development threads you just cant replay in them.

[q] just wondering if possible to port .sense to mt3gs

well, start by setting up either a linux partition, or install cygwin (you need the custom one in the dsixda kitchen thread) and setting up your kitchen, but for the most par, just make sure you are trying to port a non-sense rom with a sense base, or vise-versa
Also, always replace /system/usr and /system/bin/akmd
but you will figure out what else on your own

Dont know if this will help or not. You may or may not be aware of it. I checked out the thread a little, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445517 and development has been suspended. Apparently there were some problems with wifi and cell service on the latest version 3.0 from the little bit I read there. I did notice a few people saying that v2.0.1 was working pretty good for them though.
It also appears that they had it working for the Legend in v2.0.1 so that could be the easiest port if you do decide to tackle it. (The Legend is nearly identical to our Espresso if I am remembering correctly)
v3.0 was available for the Wildfire and the Salsa, and since we have a working port of Salsa, that may help as well (for either the 3.0 or 2.0.1).
Sorry I can't be much more help than this right now. Hopefully this can help give you some ideas.
Note: the download links do not work at all, but i did find them all here.

I would say that should be plenty. I have not yet attempted compiling or porting myself but i use a much weaker machine for a lot of my android stuff and it has been pretty good for the mods and such ive been working on. Search google or xda for android development min requirements and you should find some info on recommended specs for what u want to do.

one more thing I tried to plug my mt3gs to my pc but neither my wife's laptop or my desktop wont recognize my phone neither htc sync or as a mass storage device, as I am going to start my little project on saturday. So just want to know if there is a solution for this? Can someone please help me your help is very very appreciated.
Have u tried a different cable? Does the phone start charging when u plug it into the PC? if u just want to transfer files u can try an app like SwiFTP from the market. I believe there are also ways to run adb over wifi, but ive never looked into it so not totally sure bout that. Did u check to make sure in settings that its not set to Charge Only?

This all started to happen with the original cord that came with the phone but I will try different cords just too see if I can get it to work. And if not I will look in to that adb through wifi thing, but most likely if a different cord works I will still research that whole process. I thank you for your help and advice.

[Q] S-off without identifier tag

Hey guys,
I'm wondering if any of you can help me out. I have a HTC Wildfire S but I'm getting quite fed up with always running out space and not being able to move some of the preinstalled things to my SD card. So... I read up a little and believe I need to root it to gain admin so I can start moving things around. To do that I need to turn S-off(?) but the problem i'm having is HTCDev don't seem to be emailing me whatever I'm supposed to get after pasting my identifier code. Is there anyway to get it S-off without the identifier thingy?
Thanks.

If you follow instructions from HTC DEV it will make your phone S-ON...To do S- OFF you need XTC clip...So you can try couple of more times pasting the identifier token or try using xtc clip...If nothing works try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131264

If im totally honest I have no idea the differences between them, I was told try CM9.1/CM10, I checked out their wiki, seems pretty good but doesnt actually say if it supports Wildfire S or not, then I found out theres like 3 types of wildfire S. Also I read about some bugs in the video/camera for CM, dunno how dated the posts where though or if they are fixed now.
I assume Sense based roms are based on Htc Sense?
Forgive the n00bness but I am but a humble n00b, research, trial and error all the way.

CM9.1 has the infamous camcorder bug. CM10 has working camera, but the video records at a very low frame rate. Yes, sense based ROMs are based on HTC sense. In Wildchild, sense stuff is stripped out, only essential files are kept. It makes the phone faster.
N00bness, well, even I was once that way. But I have to appreciate the fact that you are at least researching. People just blindly come and ask questions to which answers are literally one search away.

Loss of camcorder... I dunno man, what happens if the Mrs wants to make some *home movies* ahem.
Wildchild sounds good then. Basically my issue was the lack of space, which I fixed last night with the something2sd app (forgot first part of the name), which also sorted out problem of getting rid of rubbish like twatter and friend stream. Right now i'm not really after anything life changing, stripping it down to the bare essentials and being able to put a few apps on would be great, overall speed improvement and battery life would be awesome as im sick of charging it all the time but I dont want it at the cost of other things not working. Oh and being able to do themes would be really nerdy but cool. Any suggestions?
I actually quite enjoy the research side of things, I like understanding things, granted im not the most technically minded but I can figure out the basics... sometimes.

If you want themes on Wildchild, its pretty much DIY. Visit uot kitchen and make it yourself. And if you want the personalize option to work in Settings, you need to flash the stock Rosie. Its in addons section.
Or you could use CM7.2, based on GB, everything works except USB tethering (which I forgot to mention is a known bug on all CM Roms). Themes are widely spread on play store, xda, and a bunch of other sites. If tethering isn't of concern, you can go for CM7.

That's pretty much it.
Cm7 looks kinda bad, so I would recommend either LunarUI or MattedBlues. Top themes and I've tried out both.
If you like blue, you're gonna like Wildchild. But if you can't handle everything blue, cm7 is for you.
Good luck, and ask away if you still have doubts.
