HELLO EVERY BODY I was just wondering if it is possible to do a port of benjamingwynn's super awsome .sense rom to the mytouch 3g slide?
It's just a really great rom that might just bring the mt3gs back for one last time.
Just don't want to give up on this phone, I love it to much.
well, i might, but, im more focused on getting WiFi to work in ANY sense 3.5 rom
Well that is important and I thank you for working on it! I
I just wanted to know so I can give porting a rom a try. Want to contribute something instead of just using.
Oh by the love your roms

well, start by setting up either a linux partition, or install cygwin (you need the custom one in the dsixda kitchen thread) and setting up your kitchen, but for the most par, just make sure you are trying to port a non-sense rom with a sense base, or vise-versa
Also, always replace /system/usr and /system/bin/akmd
but you will figure out what else on your own

Dont know if this will help or not. You may or may not be aware of it. I checked out the thread a little, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445517 and development has been suspended. Apparently there were some problems with wifi and cell service on the latest version 3.0 from the little bit I read there. I did notice a few people saying that v2.0.1 was working pretty good for them though.
It also appears that they had it working for the Legend in v2.0.1 so that could be the easiest port if you do decide to tackle it. (The Legend is nearly identical to our Espresso if I am remembering correctly)
v3.0 was available for the Wildfire and the Salsa, and since we have a working port of Salsa, that may help as well (for either the 3.0 or 2.0.1).
Sorry I can't be much more help than this right now. Hopefully this can help give you some ideas.
Note: the download links do not work at all, but i did find them all here.

That is a very good starting point. Once the weekend gets here I will try to get started.
One more question what are the minimum requirements for a PC, I have 4 gigs of ram two hard drives one with 250 gb the other with 1 tb and a pentium core duo processor I think. (Not sure on the processor, been a while since I looked)

I would say that should be plenty. I have not yet attempted compiling or porting myself but i use a much weaker machine for a lot of my android stuff and it has been pretty good for the mods and such ive been working on. Search google or xda for android development min requirements and you should find some info on recommended specs for what u want to do.

one more thing I tried to plug my mt3gs to my pc but neither my wife's laptop or my desktop wont recognize my phone neither htc sync or as a mass storage device, as I am going to start my little project on saturday. So just want to know if there is a solution for this? Can someone please help me your help is very very appreciated.
Have u tried a different cable? Does the phone start charging when u plug it into the PC? if u just want to transfer files u can try an app like SwiFTP from the market. I believe there are also ways to run adb over wifi, but ive never looked into it so not totally sure bout that. Did u check to make sure in settings that its not set to Charge Only?

This all started to happen with the original cord that came with the phone but I will try different cords just too see if I can get it to work. And if not I will look in to that adb through wifi thing, but most likely if a different cord works I will still research that whole process. I thank you for your help and advice.

Hi,
Attached is a build of Honeycomb for DesireHD, I managed to find this by browsing the net and take no credit for creating it whatsoever.
I'm hoping one of our more clever members can do what needs doing with this to make it work on our beloved HD2.
Thanks.
http://www.multiupload.com/DLJ46IG55Q
Nobody is interested? Or is it a fake? Can anybody (with the right skills and tools) check this please.
???
Are you serious ?! someone can verify that build or can you make some screenshots ?
Could be, but dont know if his link is trusted.

Yes that's what i read
but hey
DFT can make it a reality as usual XD
If you check the link in my post, ist already ported and working.
There is a video there to, its a Dutch site though.
Yes its ported to EVO & is working..!!!
PS: - I haven't tried yet though
The LINK
[ROM-DEV] ||Honeycomb on EVO||Alpha||SpyderComb||Honeycomb Android 3.0||2/17/2011||
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957842
It is a genuine link, I haven't tested because I don't have a desire, I have seen video footage of it running from the same source and I have inspected the file which looks about right to me, just needs correct drivers and repackaging I believe. If only I knew how to do the repackaging and which driver files were needed I would do it myself.
Yup this is built for tablets and not phones but there are a few tablets with screens not much bigger than our hd2's. It may not even be practical for daily use but I'd love to have a play. : )

May be we can have a working one on our HD2's, can't say, DFT & the cheifs here ROCK..!!!
I like the lock screen & the home screen, it a really an evolution from the older Android Versions..!!!
So hope we get a working port pretty soon..!!!
here's a video for DesireHD release..

I know that mdeejay or one of the other devs on here could get it working in no time, I just don't have the knowledge, fingers crossed.

the expert cooks should be working to port it to the archos tablets
Booted it on my HD2, but... it lags, nearly nothing works by now etc, and it's hard to hit interface buttons... not sure this will be really useful, but I'll try to work on it
Don't ask for upload please...
Can someone point me in the direction for a tutorial for creating clockwork mod roms please?
this would be probably better suited for viewsonic g tablet
Probably, would still be fun to play with on my phone though.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I haven't had any fun
Nothing really works, sdcard mount, wifi, radio, bluetooth, etc etc, even some buttons are not properly mapped, so i couldn't turn the screen off, i haven't took a closer look though.
Default launcher, and some interface parts lag SO much
But this will really take time, cause everything should be fixed, and cause it's still preview SDK - not really worth it.

Well no bug or something, but I've added the rom on my mirror . here
Good luck with this. It's great to see that there are still some people who believe in a 2.2 sense rom for the hero
when the rom is tested a bit i will add it to my rom database
dude, you built a rom! congrats on being so bleeding edge bonesy!
I'm impressed with your guts
um, don't take this the wrong way, but I'm not about to try it just yet... ;-) It's just because I need my phone and it's camera etc for daily use. I have faith in you - you've been messing with this stuff longer than I have probably dude and your flashing instructions are VERY clear which is comforting.
I'm really impressed that you persevered like this though man!

hi there!
I'm a bit puzzled how to revert to pre-MTD changes state.
I am willing to test this rom, but I would like to have an option to nandroid back without much of a problem. I read through the topic bonesy linked, but haven't found a simple answer/solution.
I hope I could help some more, at least confirm bugs or something.
Cheers!
brat.haneq
EDIT:
Is it as simple, as flashing "remove" zip?
Nearly, you will need to re-flash recovery too, Through fastboot..
Im struggling at the moment as i have 2 different builds on 2 different computers. As soon as i can get to my work computer i can carry on with it all
Call me stupid but is CustomMTD really necessary ? This rom can't work as all roms do? I've flashed it without MTD method and I am stuck on first splash-screen (mine says HERO on black background).
BTW ty for working on a Froyo Sense port for Hero GSM
omg Ninpo is involved, <3 him (nogay)
I will try when it's a little bit better ^^ and can be used for 1 day at school
good work man!

@bonesy. how are you hoping the development of this ROM will be community driven? Would you like us to simply try it and report bugs (no different to most other ROMS I think) or would you like us to get down and dirty with code wherever possible?
Im just a regular user but i'd like to help with the development of this rom. if i was pointed in the right direction I would even be willing to learn about how to develop this rom!
anyway good effort for starting on this (I expect, long) journey

Well took a quick look at this. Will try to devout some more time over the next few days and see if it'll get me anywhere.
What I got for now is:
a) There is quite a lot of "junk" on the system partition here, after a short cleanup it fits very nicely without the MTD patch .
b) libwebcore.so fixes the browser crashes and most likely the markets too.
If I have time tomorrow I'll try to give the microphone a shot, cause this is the most critical problem at this point - whats the point of having a telephone you even talk to...
Hopefully I'll also release something for testing tomorrow...
Thanks Erasmux, i would have gtalked you today but been at work and the boss was in...so no devvin on the work pc lol.Got market and browser fixed as you say and also rotate and i think light sensor.I removed nabservice.apk as it only FC'd.Would be great if we can arrange a time over the W/end to talk
Opened a new thread for "my" version of this port:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026699
Please note, that the amount of effort I will be able on such a (closed source) ROM is limited. I mainly what to see how far I can get this, especially in terms of hardware support, with my past experience.
So its up to you if you want to continue to keep your version going in parallel. If you do (or anyone else), please feel free to reuse anything from "my" ROM....
I assume this is the correct forum otherwise please move this.
What is the best article(s) to read if you want to start learning how to port roms from other android phones to the Evo? I've been searching on here and on google and it seems most articles are either outdated or only talk about editing existing cooked roms so I finally broke down and posted this. Yes I do use Linux and I do program in Java and .NET and do have a bachelors in software development but I have just never looked into doing this type of work until now.
Thank you, any direction I'm pointed in is appreciated.
I'll direct to you the Q&A forum.
Side Note:This goes in General, but im nice so ill answer you question.
There is no real BOOK to read, a java book is a good start, but you say you know java, so you can probably skip that.
Basically, this is all you have to do.
Download "Dsixda's Kitchen" to your linux distro(amazing software)
Grab a rom from another device.
Grab one of our(evo)stock roms(deodexed Stock 3.70 is good for froyo port,4.12 for gingerbread)
Open the kitchen, and find the option(#19 i think it is), and follow the steps to port it(hold on, your not done yet)
From there you will need do some manual work by tinkering with libs, tinkering with the boot.img, bascally just tinkering with everything related to booting(libs,ramdisk,hw-libs,etc.) untill you can get it to boot or bootloop.
If it boots, thats great, if it bootloops, youlle need to logcat it then debug it.
If you need help with something, pm me, other than that, thats basically(*note: i said basic, more complexed roms like sense 3.0 and non-htc device rom may require extra work)(*note2:alot of times, its going to be a no-booter, but just keep trying.)

Don't forget some of the most important stuff is in the build.prop and update-script.
Word of advice, look at a sense 2.1 and check out the base that was used. You can also use beyond compare and basically skip Linux all together. Using kitchen to deodex the ruu is a good first step. Choose option 11 in the menu.
Personally, I would start off with a working port and changing apps and moving stuff around. Also get a good list at which libs are associated with what. But use stock bins, etc, xbin, hw libs, and ported apks, framework, and software associated libs. Stock boot.img and a good updater-script. Also know key
Things like the EVO density is 160, vold_stab is usb, amkd is rotation, gsl hw accel stuff like that.
But first things first, Google is ur friend and use the q&a section.

ah yes, forgot about build.prop, and i think the kitchen takes care of updater script(unless the device has specific mount pointsor you want text or to clear cache and system). i was just getting the basics to boot, from ther he can debug the errors out of the log.
What about something A LOT simpler like adding the CRT animations to a ROM? any pointers? Any TUT you can point me to?

I'm actually glad this thread is still here we don't get to learn much from the devs here. I mean its mostly do it yourself but a getting started guide isn't a bad thing. Mods are quick to move and people are quick to flame but I say leave it, where else is the knowledge pool? Can you really learn this stuff in Q and A seems like it would be mostly help my phone doesn't boot...

Check out the APKTool, APKManager threads. Lots of great valuable information in there.
I sometimes wish XDA focused more on the "HOW TO" and less on the delivery aspect. The more folks developing, the further we will be along
Another great way to get started is to mentor with another established developer.

Well said. People love to flame anyways and XDA is famous among other Android forums for being so harsh. This thread helped me out big time, and it's especially nice to see Leoisright and myn in here giving up a few pointers, because I too was curious about porting. I never worked up the confidence to ask, just too worried about it being passed over or getting flamed because I'm young and curious.

This is an alpha build, very little is working, and it may have SOD issues. Putting it here both for further testing and to ask for help, getting a error from RIL about not connecting to the socket, if anybody has any info on that, please post or PM it to me.
What works:
Touchscreen

Apps
USB

SD Card
What doesn't:

Good for you mate! Can't wait to see how this turns out.
Our Samsung Epic forums has an outstanding CM7 crew. They got it from alpha to official in like 3 months. Uberpenguin, noobnl, and decad3ence to be specific.
Keep it up! Will definitely be using this,
I have a Samsung Intercept .... been playing with different ROM's and config's as it takes the 'perfect combo' to have everything you want on this phone. But I don't have another phone to use when I play with this one...... I would be willing to test when the ROM has less 'not working' componnents..... Let me know and GOOD LUCK as us Samsung Intercept users and being left behind with different options...THX
Do you have an svn and would you like help developing the ROM? I have an old intercept lying around. I upgraded a while back so it doesn't matter if I mess with it.

Hey guys,
I'm wondering if any of you can help me out. I have a HTC Wildfire S but I'm getting quite fed up with always running out space and not being able to move some of the preinstalled things to my SD card. So... I read up a little and believe I need to root it to gain admin so I can start moving things around. To do that I need to turn S-off(?) but the problem i'm having is HTCDev don't seem to be emailing me whatever I'm supposed to get after pasting my identifier code. Is there anyway to get it S-off without the identifier thingy?
Thanks.

If you follow instructions from HTC DEV it will make your phone S-ON...To do S- OFF you need XTC clip...So you can try couple of more times pasting the identifier token or try using xtc clip...If nothing works try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131264

Well I don't fancy paying £33 to get the job done just yet so I shall try the link and if no joy, keep pasting my identifier and pray I get a response, thanks.
That link was very helpfull, I downloaded the utility, followed the instructions and got the phone unlocked in s-on... I have no idea what that means but i'm going to look it up now and see what to do next

Try Jelly King if you want a taste of jelly bean. If you want ICS, CM9.1 Alpha 9. If you want sense based ROMs, I would recommend wildchild or crossfire 77's modified stock ROMs if you want the default looks.

If im totally honest I have no idea the differences between them, I was told try CM9.1/CM10, I checked out their wiki, seems pretty good but doesnt actually say if it supports Wildfire S or not, then I found out theres like 3 types of wildfire S. Also I read about some bugs in the video/camera for CM, dunno how dated the posts where though or if they are fixed now.
I assume Sense based roms are based on Htc Sense?
Forgive the n00bness but I am but a humble n00b, research, trial and error all the way.

CM9.1 has the infamous camcorder bug. CM10 has working camera, but the video records at a very low frame rate. Yes, sense based ROMs are based on HTC sense. In Wildchild, sense stuff is stripped out, only essential files are kept. It makes the phone faster.
N00bness, well, even I was once that way. But I have to appreciate the fact that you are at least researching. People just blindly come and ask questions to which answers are literally one search away.
If you have any more doubts, feel free to ask again and use my help thread in the Q&A section.

Loss of camcorder... I dunno man, what happens if the Mrs wants to make some *home movies* ahem.
Wildchild sounds good then. Basically my issue was the lack of space, which I fixed last night with the something2sd app (forgot first part of the name), which also sorted out problem of getting rid of rubbish like twatter and friend stream. Right now i'm not really after anything life changing, stripping it down to the bare essentials and being able to put a few apps on would be great, overall speed improvement and battery life would be awesome as im sick of charging it all the time but I dont want it at the cost of other things not working. Oh and being able to do themes would be really nerdy but cool. Any suggestions?
I actually quite enjoy the research side of things, I like understanding things, granted im not the most technically minded but I can figure out the basics... sometimes.

If you want themes on Wildchild, its pretty much DIY. Visit uot kitchen and make it yourself. And if you want the personalize option to work in Settings, you need to flash the stock Rosie. Its in addons section.
Or you could use CM7.2, based on GB, everything works except USB tethering (which I forgot to mention is a known bug on all CM Roms). Themes are widely spread on play store, xda, and a bunch of other sites. If tethering isn't of concern, you can go for CM7.

After a quick googling I found out usb tethering is using your phone as a modem, not something Ive ever used or ever plan to use, so that puts me smack bang in the middle of wildchild and cm7.2. Any other pros and cons?

That's pretty much it.
Cm7 looks kinda bad, so I would recommend either LunarUI or MattedBlues. Top themes and I've tried out both.
If you like blue, you're gonna like Wildchild. But if you can't handle everything blue, cm7 is for you.
Good luck, and ask away if you still have doubts.

Crunch time, so much pressure. So it's safe to assume both are pretty similar and do the same things, both are better than what I have now and both are simple to customize?

Yes, yes and yes. Only CM7 is easier to customize. Because finally, its CM.
