Paul O'Brien is going to get a HTC One X, too. Unfortunately, Cotulla - the HD2 god developer - plans to stick with HD2 and WP7.
mike1986 confirmed on twitter his ROMs will come to One X
hamdir, are you a Dev? From what I read on One's mega thread it seems you made a very important tweak on Sense.
If I get the One X, expect ROMs from me
Got experience in kernel development + got a team behind me that knows the thing pretty well
I'm planning to create some tweaking apps too !
And not related to One X but some games are on their way for the droid

i made ultra/super smooth rosie hack, that disabled the 3d widget effect, froze pages during scroll, which ran Rosie (Sense launcher) at locked 60fps for snapdragon 2 and above the idea was adopted in sense 4
my thread has various versions of sense 3.0, 3.5 and 3.6 patched for many devices also has the guide to apply the patch
but no im no dev, i'm more like a modder, obsessed with smoothness i usually provide mods for the ROM i'm using
i also wrote many guides, like DHD camera guide and supercharger guide
so yea i can be useful
I want Dougi and Shnizlon as best 2 themers on Sensation
Seo from DHD scene and Baad from Sensation as devs
hmm just had an idea for an xda developer top trumps game
I'd love to see an AOSP ROM and try that out, though I'm a fan of sense and really like what I've heard about Sense 4.0... I'd therefore also like a nice simple Sense 4.0 ROM which just improves performance maybe strips it back even more to the bare essentials.
Do I also remember reading about being able to duel boot Android phones now? that would be cool if we could do that....
However at the moment I plan on running stock until things settle down.

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a new custom rom for my phone, just rooted it... all gravy but fancy trying something of the things those genius chefs have been cooking!
I was looking for a Gingerbread rom with the HTC Sense style theme, but can't seem to find one; does one exist? I've had a look through the index and the developmnent forums but can only find Froyo Sense Roms. It's not a huge issue but it would be nice as I quite like the Sense layout and apps n' stuff
Also, any recommendations on roms? I think I'm going to try some of the gingerbead ones regardless of the htc sense(I like the sound of some of the enhancements) but wonder if anyones using something they can whole heartedly recommend, froyo or no?
Yeah, I would be interested in this too...
Not gonna happen, would need a complete re-write of Sense

Indeed. Try different roms and see which you like. Also, if you want different "styles" of sense, install a HD rom but it's still 2.2. Or you can just wait for 2.3 to be released for Desire which shouldn't be that long really.

Ya I've gone for a 2.2 for now, I imagine I'll stick with it for a while until I feel a real 'need' to upgrade to 2.3.
Until HTC releases the 2.3 update for the Desire(s), nothing can be done :/

Yes wait for new sense gingerbread. Or honeycomb rom

To be honest, I much prefer Gingerbread ROMs and have found Ultimate Droid 3.0.0 to be the best so far.
On top of this I use Launcherpro, which contains awesome Sense style widgets for calendar/facebook/bookmarks/contacts etc.
See it here:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/launcherpro/com.fede.launcher
I also use Fancy Widgets with the H7 clock theme as this gives me the Sense style clock on my homescreen as well.
See it here:

I love this setup

I've actually seen a photo or 2.3.1 Sense 'running' as it were so it exists but it's on one of the new HTC handsets. Whether we'll see it on the Desire is another matter
was it the new htc desire 2 ? ? cant wait for desire 2 to be released.. im sure it packages gingerbread with sense and full support for honeycomb !
Honeycomb is for tablets only. There will prob be something similar for smartphones later on, maybe 2.4 or 3.0, who knows. But no, Honeycomb is non existant for phones for now.
HTC desire S
with sense and android 2.3.2 and now??
search on the youtube this sentence:
"HTC Desire S Videopreview da Telefonino.net @ MWC 2011"
I have faith it will come out until mid-year has the rom gingerbread-Sense

2.4 has already been released, it's an update release from Google of 2.3 full of BugFixes. The Desire S will be released running 2.4, as will the HTC Desire when the new sense comes to it. Check out the thread I posted covering HTC's confirmation plans to update the HTC Desire range to 2.4. This includes all models of the HTC Desire released at the moment.
Also Honeycomb will be released for phones, just only phones that have Dual Core Processors, so thats every single HTC device at the moment out of that league. Hope I helped guys
Sort of it...
Okay, Here's what you can get if you son't mind it not being an ACTUAL Sense UI
Sense UI Themes for Launcher Pro
It's not perfect, but a quick google of Sense UI Launcher Pro theme brings up quite a bit...

I just bought the SGS2, and my girlfriend is getting my old HTC Desire.
She tried it for a week, with Oxygen ROM and while generally happy with it, she was underwhelmed and annoyed with a few of the more obvious warts of stock android 2.3. The crappy dialer and the crappy keyboard, to name a few.
I then installed a lot of GO apps on it, GO Launcher EX, GO Dialer, GO Widget etc.
While these are in some respects better, they have other issues.
I am now considering if a ROM with Sense would be a good compromise for her. I will not give her the latest stock 2.2 ROM from HTC, I want her to have 2.3. So it would have to be a 2.3 ROM with Sense on it. And I don't even know which version of Sense. I have only really worked with the one in the stock 2.2 ROM from HTC. I think it is Sense 1.9?
So, can you guys recommend a 2.3 ROM with Sense or a 2.3 ROM and some good core apps (dialer, keyboard, sms/texting etc.) that is girlfriend-friendly?
Thanks in advance
I'd recommend one with the Sense 3.0.

I would recommend a ROM with Sense 2.1/3.0 (Hybrid) because the Sense 3.5/3.0 ROMs are a bit too much sometimes for the Desire as I read and heard (in case of lags and so).
But Runnymede is recommended very often.
So I would go with Revolution or InsertCoin which I self am using since a few months and i'm quite happy with it.

And I really dont get the point why you always have to bash the other Roms except Supernova's. Supernovas Rom sure is great but there also other good ROMs (even with Sense 3.0/3.5). They are maybe that not stable and so on but the Users also have different preferences. For some eye-candy is the most important feature, for other it is stability and speed.

Not that I don't bash just supernova, I don't bash either of the Sense 1.9 roms, aosp roms, or even roms which are broken and are advertised as such.
And I have no beef with roms or their developers, but with idiots that turn every rom recommendation thread into this. OK, you're free to do whatever you want, but you can't come and write "Sense 3.5/ICS , this, this, this and this doesn't work, but it's perfect".
As far as I'm concerned, the scale goes like this: unusable - bad - average - good - perfect. I hope meaning of perfect is self explanatory?
If the op states that he is giving away his phone, Sense 3.5 roms don't have nothing to look for here. Giving away phone with some of it's features severely limited is insanity.
It is you Sense 3.5 users who mixed up priorities here, not I. If the thread was titled "most eyecandy" rom I'd be silent.

I wasn't giving the OP a recommendation for a Sense 3.0/3.5-ROM, I was recommending him a Hybrid (2.1/3.0). And this I can do with pure conscience because the ROM I'm using right now (InsertCoin) is way faster than the Stock-ROM that was originally on the Desire and i havent experienced anything thats not working yet (no reboots, no failures, ... everything is working fine).
Yeah, maybe the Sense-ROMs you are not bashing are a bit faster than the ISC and Revolution Hybrids but there you have an uglier ui, so you have to balance.
Maybe you should testing a Hybrid for yourself because now you are just assuming things.

I want her to have 2.3, and there is no good official 2.3 ROM from HTC. So I guess I might as well try a girlfriend-friendly 2.3 ROM, preferably one that "just works" and that I don't have to help her with a million times. If you can recommend such a ROM, it would be great.
I agree with you that eye candy is not the most important thing here. Usability and stability is. Unfortunately, stock android have usability issues with simple things such as the dialer and the keyboard. And Android 2.3 is a must.
I will never buy her an iPhone, so that's not an option.
What do you recommend?

Why would you want sense with ICS?
I used to love sense as it was an improvement over froyo and gingerbread apart from being ugly they were lacking some functions which sense added.
ICS even in its various beta incarnations is better than any of the sense roms (in my opinion) that I have tried.

I also don't like Sense, but the announced today entry-level HTC One V has almost identical parameters as our old desire and will be running ICS 4.0.3 + Sense 3.6.
Probably the port would be possible after applying the proper kernel modules for QSD8250.
The other phones from the HTC One series will run Sense 4.0, which I doubt will run smoothly on the old Desire's hardware.

Is it not more like the Desire S? 4GB ROM instead of 512MB - but I bet the CPU/Graphics etc. are far different than we have now
I think ICS looks much better without any HTC Sense.
The internal storage is already a resolved issue using a good SD card.
About the CPU/Graphics I believe it will be the 2nd generation Snapdragon + Adreno 205 combination, which is not a lot different.
It's perfect option to sell the last of them. Same as they do with the Legend and Wildfire 2 years ago.
Don't forget also that we got 64 Mb more RAM and probably most of us better IMHO AMOLED display

well, on paper this statement shouldn't be entirely correct. htc got rid of the 3d widgets when you scroll between home screens in sense 4.0 but kept the 3-dimensional workspace, so that should give us some plenty of more performance. if you had a sense 3.0/3.5 rom and had disabled the 3d widgets you'd see the BIG improvement in performance i am talking about...and in my opinion that's because of the comaparitively weak adreno 200 performance compared to the new phone gpus...
i think MIUI interfase most better then any sense
No sense please
When the Desire came out, Sense had a lot of cool functions that left stocking in the dust. Cool widgets, good dialer, good alarm and good integration with fb/twitter. Now all of these things are in stock ICS or available through lightweight apps from the market. Once you have tried the speed of stock builds, I just don't see how you could ever go back to sense.

Since HTC have revealed the HTC One V for Q2 of this year. Do you reckon some devs will be able to port the RUU over to the HTC Desire?

a) even if it has 1GHz single core cpu, it for sure is not one from 2008
b) Sense 3.5 doesn't work smoothly, so mine (possibly broken) logic says that it probably won't.
c) I for one couldn't care less if it gets ported or not. I know that software version is one part of the coin, where no number of updates will change the fact what Desire fundamentally is - a two year old with archaic architecture.

I doubt it'll get fixed.
As above, even though its a 1ghz processor, the desires technology is now outdated. Its possible we may get some sense 4.0 with ICS but who knows.
Will just have to wait and see what we get
If hwa is delt with I'm sure we might get sense 4.0 but won't let my hopes go up just yet. Although One V has a newer cpu/gpu so do Sensation/Evo3D/Amaze which run sense 3.0/5 (custom) much like I run it on my desire. There's not that much multitasking in comparison but it's running stable and very, very fast. Comparable to the best sense 1/2.0 roms out here. And it seems that sense 4.0 is lighter on ram since V has just 512mb compared with desires 576. My 2c.

Well, there's "smooth" and and there's "sense 3.5 smooth". I've tried most 3.0+ roms but I don't think that people here truly understand what smooth is. I was one of those people. Then I tried oxygen (Mildwild's version to be precise) and it utterly ruined sense for me. I just can't go back.
Although I do miss sense from time to time
Wasn't talking about aosp, miui or cm7. Imho, sense will never be as fast. But that's not the topic of this thread anyway.
-. typewrited .-
I thought AceS 3D port of Sense 3.0 was smooth - but then I went to ICS 0.3.x beta's and was amazed how quick and responsive it was even as a beta.
I do like Sense a lot- especially the camera and people apps but it's days are numbered where ICS is concerned... still wouldn't want to go to stock Gingerbread to be honest but it's probably heaps smoother still
AceS smooth?
It was very, very slow and huge in ram.
I wasn't able to open tweet deck when playing music!

If aosp roms I've only tried mildwild and my current sense rom is at least as fast, if not faster... Not bragging or something. It's an objective opinion. I was really disappointed, since everyone here seems to think otherwise.
One V uses a S2 CPU. The Desire has a S1.
Although, interestingly, the V has slightly less RAM than the Desire.
If ROMs get ported, I don't think there will be RAM issues, but there will be a lot of lag issues etc.

Could not agree more.
I'm all up for this an am infact waiting for this to be ported over to the desire. This new Sense sounds like it'll be less on an issue to run on our devices than Sense 3 and 3.5. Plus I'm looking forward to Android 4 on a Sense phone.
Hopefully this starts happening soon!
With a Sense 4a/ICS Sense ROM, this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598865), my Limited Edition Spiderman Beats By Dre headphones, some theming of my own, and a white case, I am going to transform my DINC2 into what I call an "HTC One Incredible S"
ok?
Beats already comes with Sense 4 by default. You don't need to flash anything else unless you want to mess it up.

Yea the great thing I like about sense 4 is that beats is integrated throughout. So it works on YouTube and Pandora

I thought I read on here somewhere that when we get ics we will still never get true sense 4 only 3.6? I know very little about the sense roms so I am just trying to educate myself a little.
Jayydude glad you got you a dinc 2. I ended up sending the guy that gave you his blackberry for free the batteries and charger I had offered to you for your x2 when you had problems. Him and his son was happy. You should love this phone over the x2. I am running the M5.01 ext4 and really like it. Also flashed the 3.0 patch to get the sick lockscreen. Some sick widgets and awesome battery life.

Just to clarify, last season's HTC devices get an ICS update in the form of Android 4.0.3/Sense 3.6. This applies to the Sensation (all models), Vivid, Amaze, Incredible 2/S and even the Desire S/HD, along with a couple of others.
You won't see Sense 4.0 on any of these 'older' devices officially. It was the One series' drawcard, and it won't be officially ported backwards. That's what XDA is for
That said, I'm really impressed with performance increases on the Sensation, Vivid and Amaze from the ICS update. Usability of Sense 3.6, especially the Launcher, is greatly improved. You should get a good little boost out of the official ICS when it arrives.

fwiw, it looks like msm7x30 devices (ds/dhd/inc s/inc2/is4g, etc) will get 4.0.4/sense 3.6 as thats what the desire s leak was
and typically the updates are all very similar to each other

Well I learned something today Justin, thanks mate!
Why do you think the older devices are getting the 0.0.1 difference? RAM?
EDIT: MSM8x55?

most likely they started working on the older devices later, and by then 4.0.4 was in aosp id guess
given that htc updates on the same os version so frequently, id imagine the evo 3d/sensation/rezound will move up as well
some of the msm7x30 devices on gb at points had 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.5, and 2.3.6 (dont think any of that chipset ever saw 2.3.7)

I just got it and hr ago, sadly they just sent the extended battery ( free ) today so I can't use it until tomorrow. But that's true no Sense 4.0 just 3.6 :/ But hey any add on to ICS is amazing to me. I love sense But I'm going to flash sense 3.6 + ics rom, beats audio + xloud patch, capacitive button fix, touch recovery, and etc. I wish I could get the on - screen htc version of the ics softkeys and disable the capacitive buttons + lights that would really be cool ^_^
