Hey, I just had to gripe about something really quick.
Long story, short....
My 15 yo daughter's Evo 4G somehow slips out of her pocket and drops 5 stories from her friend's mom's apartment balcony. Needles to say...the phone was utterly destroyed. She was able to find the device (well...like half of it anyway), so I was able to make a damaged equipment claim. I call Asurion and they do their thing. Next thing I know, a replacement is being sent out (cool...right?). A couple days later (Friday) the device arrives. Unfortunately, the screen is defective and the top half of it is unresponsive. I tried everything to get it working and nothing works. So, I call Asurion this morning....
I get transferred to a lady who tells me that I need the device in hand, so I tell her that my daughter (and her phone) are with her mother until Wednesday, so I'll call back then. She then tells me that if I can get the ESN/MEID and some other info off the device, she'll issue another replacement. I then call my daughter and get the ESN/MEID (and every other # from under the battery). After that I call Asurion back and I get transferred to their tech support department. Here's where it takes a complete 180°...
First off....this guy is hilarious. He speaks English like old people **** and he's defensive right from the get-go. I tell him that I think I got transferred to wrong department. I'm just getting a replacement device and I don't need tech support. He raises his voice (all tough guy like) and says "Sir! I need to trouble shoot the device so that we can figure out what's the problem"....or at least that's what I think he said. Lol Anyway...I say "Can you please just transfer me back to the claims department?". He says "No! I need to troubleshoot the device first". (I'm starting to think this guy REALLY wants to troubleshoot my daughter's phone). I tell him that the problem is hardware related and you can't troubleshoot a defective screen. He then says "Sir! can you please remove the battery". I then try to explain to him that my daughter and her phone wont be back in town until Wednesday, so I'll just call back when I have the phone in hand. He then say's "Sir! I am just trying to help you and I need you to remove the battery. Holy ****.....I hang up on the angry little bastard . I call back, and sat "Look...I have all the device's info I just need a replacement and this lady tells me that standard procedure is to try to trouble shoot the device first. I tell her it's a hardware problem and you can't troubleshoot a defective screen. So, she says "Ok I'll transfer you to someone who can help you". I'm thinking "Sweet...Finally!". But noooooo...........I get transferred to the same damn tech support department and this guy speaks even worse English than "Omar the Angry CS Rep". I mean, can't make out a word this guy is saying. I just hang up....**** it, I'll wait til' Wednesday.
Moral of the story: If Asurion screws up and sends you a defective repalcement, you better that sucker in your hand when you call and try to get it replaced. Otherwise....you'll feel the wrath of "Omar the Angry CS Rep".
I understand your frustration. In that case, I would have just ok and acted like I did what they want just to get that part out of the way. That way your replacement is on the way back to you faster.

that or I would of walked into a sprint store (which he can't right now since the phone is not there) And talked to a manager and gotten a phone replacement there in the store. I try to never deal with Asurion I had to once with T-Mobile and I hated them from the start.
I love customer service horror stories, they're always so entertaining. Or maybe I'm just glad it's not me.
Never had an issue with assurion they ship replacements immediately which is crucial for most working people.
I would have gone through the troubleshooting that's what I usually do. Like unplugging and battery removals are really going to fix the problem, but there's a lot of dumb people out there.

Didn't have the phone in my hand....guess I'm too honest for my own good. Lol
Sprint service centers cover everything that Asurion sends out. We hate to do it, but it's a lot better than dealing with Asurion.
Always ask for the Warranty Department when you need it swapped.

I filed a claim today dropped phone on asphalt. Hit on upper right corner and cracked all the way down.
I am starting to wonder what sprint repair actually does.
Asurion fed ex a refurb to me told me keep the battery and charger for extras.
On a side note I removed the tpu case yesterday to clean. Forgot to put back on lol.

Your insurance covers in store warranty work. No insurance you mail it back to the manufacturer for warranty work.
Your insurance gets you another phone when YOU break, lose or get it wet. You break it, lose it or get it wet and pay your deductible--you get another one.
No insurance you got a $500 problem...
I cracked my screen the second week I had it--was more than happy to pay $100 to get a $500 phone Fedex overnighted to me...
This is why I stick with Best Buy's Geek Squad Black Tie. It may not be the best but at least I deal with someone face to face and not a rep who can barely speak english.

Ouch that sucks dude :/ At least you are getting it replaced with no problems which is a good thing. Thankfully I've only dropped mine once (The Day I got the phone a few hours before I was able to get to a Sprint store and get a case) About the only thing that happened was I got a nice little mark on the lower part of the bezel which I was amazed that's all that happened. Knock on wood I won't be dropping it again but when it dropped I was sure something bad was going to happen lol.
I dropped my phone from 10ft high roof and didn't even shatter my screen, only got a dent on metal casing! I had only one of those back covers that barely cover the edges. Either I was lucky or I got super E4GT. Almost crapped myself!

Other than the obvious ways is there some sort of hidden non-erasable call timer or counter on this device? If you call T-Mobile and give them the ESN will they tell you when (if) it was first activated?
Tmobile works with imei. Although i dont think they track that as well as sprint does. When you out a sim card in a new phone and it registers to the network it allows you to get a warranty for that phone meaning its new. If it has been used or another sim has been used to activate prior, their system will show no warranty. You take a gamble buying from non retail sources.

were there 2 little blue stickers covering the sd card slot and the sim card slot? and to answer your question, besides those 2 blue stickers, yes, you can call tmobile and ask them, though they may or may not know for sure how to find out. it depends on the experience of the rep you get.

I don't know if it has or had stickers, I don't have one yet. Other than the obvious ways (blue stickers etc) are you saying there is no "hidden" lifetime call timer menu that requires a dialer code like so many "dumbphones" used to have that can't be reset to 0?

I also have the sticker still on mine. The only way you can tell is by calling T-Mobile and asking them to send you a warranty replacement because you have software issues (I know you don't have any software issues). If T-Mobile sends a new unit then the phone has never been used!

It depends on where you buy it from. An actual T-Mobile store cannot sell a returned phone as new. They must send it back to the manufacturer. It's a strict policy they have, and can be fined if not followed. If you buy online then it's a gamble, but the best way to tell is if the box is still sealed with the stickers on the sides. That is even iffy with the GSII. I saw all the new boxes in the T-Mobile store I got mine from, and all of them only had one sticker on one side, so if you were careful you could open it without removing the sticker, and then put it back, and no one would know. Other boxes usually have a sticker on each side of the box, so you can easily tell if it was opened. If you get a replacement from Samsung themselves then you could get a refurb, but if it's because of a defect you can demand (nicely) a "new" phone under the BBB act.
Sort of a silly question if you ask me. You want to know how to discern if a phone which hasn't been available for but a few weeks, is used or new. And you haven't yet bought one.
If it comes with an unused magenta gba sim card not yet punched out of its credit card sized card, it is likely new.
what is the reason you want to know? are you buying it off of someone on craigslist or something? if its been used, im sure you will be able to tell in some way shape or form..i doubt the guy covered all the bases

Had you read the actual question carefully you would have seen it said "OTHER THAN THE OBVIOUS." Besides, the SIM would prove nothing. I never use the "enclosed" SIM in a device and when I resell it the original unpunched SIM goes with it.
Reason the question was asked is I am going to buy a supposedly new & unused phone from a seller and before handing over the cash I wanted to confirm it was indeed new and unused as it was described. I don't care if the box was opened and if there is a SIM in the box or not, the issue was I wanted to be able to punch in (whatever dialer code) and confirm there were zero minutes used on the phone. Many "dumbphone" devices have a "lifetime timer" that cannot be reset without major programming or at all.
Once again, my question was and still is: Other than the OBVIOUS ways (which would be obvious ), is there any way to tell if a T-989 device has been used or not? USED obviously refers to making calls or using data. I'm not questioning warranty which isn't an issue, only to confirm if it has not been USED for making calls or surfing the web.

if the phone is literally brand new and unused the battery would be in a sealed bag...i bought my phone off of someone from craigslist...he said it was brand new..when i checked it, everything was in its original seal and the phone had the manufacturer screen protector on it (with text outlining the buttons)..so i believed him

also, when you are buying something from someone on craigslist/ebay there are ways you can get a feel if the guy is legit..ask him for proof of purchase (perhaps a receipt or something)...you can most likely tell if someone is lying to you or if they are shady...i was originally going to buy it from someone else, he responded immediately to all my calls and texts.. when i asked him to show me a receipt he flaked..thus confirming he probably stole it or something

that actually sounds more likely than what he is proposing, he seems to be very fixated on making sure it is 100% fool proof...if its new, its new (you can tell)...just ask the guy if its literally brand new and unused or if its been used for a few days...if it has all the seals, its new...if not, then just ask him how long hes had it and his reason for selling...theres really no point of him lying to you...i am an avid seller on both CL/ebay..i wouldnt lie to someone for something so meaningless...i am as honest as i can be because i dont want phone calls at 2am saying he wants a refund cause i lied
Android for whatever reason in this regard sucks. Windows Mobile had call-tracking, etc, which you could only reset through extreme lengths or if you had the know-how (something which is not allowed to be discussed here, thank God).
For whatever reason, Android, or even webOS does not seem to carry this feature.
It's unfortunate but it's the risk you take buying it from a non-retail/corporate store.
A lot on people on the XDA Marketplace do not understand the term "BRAND NEW". Most of these jokers will have descriptions like "BRAND NEW OMGWTFBBQ OPENED JUST TO SEE IF EVERYTHING IS WORKING, BOOTED TO MAKE SURE RADIO WORKS ETC".
How the hell is that brand new? They could have "opened" it once for 36 hours and it would still count as a technical one-time boot.
This is why if you can avoid it, buy it locally on Craigslist and not on the XDA marketplace (know that XDA provides very little support if you're f**ked in the marketplace; one other reason to only buy from there if it's your last option). Do what others have said, typically, in many instances, if the guy is lying to you, your gut will probably give you a "fishy" feeling. Trust your gut in that case and back out of it. If it is too good to be true, IT MOST LIKELY IS.
Besides the obvious, there is NO WAY TO TELL CONCRETELY that the phone has not been used. The only thing I can think of is to bring a jeweler's magnifying glass with you and look between the bezel and the frame. It's very hard to clean dust out of those areas and the moment you've removed the factory screen protector, stuff is going to get in there very quickly. This is the only way I know how to tell if a phone is used despite having a PERFECT looking factory seal on there. Even a can of air can't properly clean those little nooks and crannies. Also, use the jeweler's magnifying glass to look inside the earpiece for lint, etc. New phones should not have this.
That's the answer, with android, there's simply no way to tell.

I'm sorry but you asked if you could dial a code to see if there was a counter or minutes used? I don't think that's possible since you all the data is stored/transferred via the Sim card. If someone gives you a phone that has been used, but completely factory reset it. You could not dial anything to get that kind of data because it goes away with that persons Sim card Your question is hard to answer if you are asking in those terms. That is why I mentioned sprint or non gsm phones that do allow that kind of tracking.

the call minutes, as far as i know is like the CAR's odometer, and it stays in the phone, and not the SIM
but it can be wiped with a new ROM
that's why we have the ROM flash counter, to see how many times you have flashed your ROM
Actually the warranty has everything to do with if it was used or not.. if you're phone shows up in the system without warranty then it means it was USED. if it has warranty when you first use it its NEW and NEVER USED
If there is no warranty it means it was registered with someones sim card as used for CALLS or DATA.
No matter where you purchase a phone if it is NEW you will have a valid warranty in tmobiles system

I bought one from a guy off eBay for a "below market" price who says it's "Brand New" and I told him I would return it if it wasn't. I need a way to check it and prove it one way or the other when I got it. It's supposed to arrive Monday. I don't care how he got it, only that it was new. I called T-Mobile and they told me they would NOT give me any info even if I provide the IMEI.
Thought I'd create this topic to raise awareness if anyone is sending their phone to HTC for a repair of a gap on their phone. My phone has a gap on the left hand side that dust and dirt collects in. I sent this phone back on the 10th of May to get this fixed, it was classified as an 'assembly gap', the phone was returned with a list saying everything that was replaced (motherboard/sound chip/vibrating motor), but the gap wasn't fixed. I sent the phone in again on the 25th of May being reassured it would be sorted this time (especially after my confusion as to why motherboards/motors/ect were being replaced for an assembly gap), and to my shock HTC emailed me a quote for repair this morning

Waiting for a response from CS now. HTC Chat told me the repair centre hadn't given enough reason as to why there was a quote, so it had to be investigated further. Sounds like repair trying to pull a fly one on an unsuspecting customer. Angry to say the least.
Phone is locked btw, I didn't even take it out the house/really use it at all when it came back because of the gap still being there (other than turning it on and sending 1~2 texts), so the phone is in the EXACT same condition as it was when repair sent it back.
As I said I want people to know about this for their own sake, and on a personal level I'd like to raise awareness and share with everyone what happens next.

Dude, I had the same issue and my carrier is swapping my phone. HTC had to confirm that there was a fault but only did this via phone.
You spoke to the seller you bought it from? They're responsible under the sales of goods act, assuming you live in the UK.

I've returned directly to HTC myself, didn't go through my seller.
Depending on where you got it from you should not have had this issue.
If it's under 28 days, ANY company in the UK has to provide you with new handset. That's basic consumer law (so I've been told, so I'm open for correction) I've had a few One X's with manufacturer defaults, all were replaced by The Carphone Warehouse on the same day I went in with the problem.
I've not had the best experience with HTC and customer support. I sent a Desire off for repair around this time last year, after a month and a half I didn't have my device back.. eventually they sent a brand new one, but still
Just maybe OT: but how big is the gap? I mean I have a gap along the whole screen on both sides of the ring. So gap next to screen , the black ring (or how should I call it) again gap and then there is the PolyCarbonate or how its called.
The gap is as thick as paper I guess maybe little more and yeah dust gets in it. It doesn't bother me as much. Just wanna know how big is your gap that you returned the device?
And also why it should bother me. As I had next to my device a SGS II which had also gaps next to the screen as big as this and other phones as well.
Can the dust there be dangerous to the device itself?

HTC chat told me the gap shouldn't be there, I explained it wasn't that large but allowed dust/dirt to get in. I explained the seal on the right of the phone didn't have any gap.
Btw there was also a bit of dirt trapped under the screen top right.

Consumer law is not quite as clear as that, but to all intents and purposes, you can assume that to be the case. Within 28 days you should never send for repair. Always insist on a replacement.
Just FYI, if you buy a new car and it has a fault, you cannot demand a new car within 28 days
Also, as said, the responsibility even after 28 days lies primarily with the seller and NOT the manufacturer. Many websites, including Amazon suggest that after 28-30 days, they wash their hands of anything to do with a problem. That is not the case at all.
That sucks, my brother had a similar problem too with his desire hd, it went on for months back and forth untill he decide to turn to the dark side and bought a 4s instead!
So HTC are asking their customers to pay to fix problems on the assembly line and their lack of quality control? Nice!
Sounds like we dont havent warranty, no matter is the bootloader unlocked, re-locked or locked ... nice HTC. That will be my last HTC for sure ...

Same here. Trying to get my yellow spots fixed, but customer care is keeping me in the dark for the second time ( first ticket was closed without any reply/reason, second one is still open with no further response after almost 3 weeks). I had enough of this bs, this is not the way to treat your customers.

Here in India it seems better. Got my phone yesterday and noticed screen creaking when i got it home. I went to the HTC service center and they inspected it for 5 mins and gave me a DOA slip. Took that and my faulty phone back to the shop and they replaced it within 5 hours.
The customer care told me this is the procedure.
To add a bit more to my story (as funnily enough HTC started out 'okay'), I got my first handset from affordablemobiles.co.uk for release. It was a serial #23, very bad screen flex and screen ripple.
AM don't do straight up exchanges, they take the phone back for inspection. At this stage right after release the screen flex/distortion scenario while starting to get 'fame' on XDA, wasn't as widespread in media yet. AM sent my phone back saying nothing was wrong with it. That angered me and someone suggested telling HTC to give them a kick up the arse and to exchange.
HTC however just asked me to send to them if my retailer was refusing an exchange. I did, and HTC actually sent me a new handset (although it COULD of been a refurb). It was a #24 serial.
This one had the gap at the side, and a misaligned camera ring. I sent it back to repair on the 10th as my comment in the first post in this topic. It came back unfixed yet with a nice list of all this other stuff repair supposedly changed (motherboard/motors/sound chips/ect).
I noticed this time as well dirt trapped under the screen at the top right, I assume this dirt was there when the handset initially was sent to me the first time but I had just missed it. My assumption for this is the repair note didn't say anything about repairing the screen, and the gap was still there, something that needs the screen repaired to fix. Therefore no one had done anything to the screen, quite clearly the issue I had sent the phone in for which was described clear as day on my repair note.
And now I'm left with a bill when HTC repair finally decide to repair the gap on the screen. What confuses me most is how I sent the phone in the first time for the gap and they'll happily exchange all the innards and send it back, but now they've changed their mind and have decided the gap they can now see is my fault, or not covered.
what confuses me is that they did not say the reason why the warranty is not covering it for you

Must be scrambling to make up the best reason possible to charge me £169 Unfortunately for them they'll find that their bootloader is in it's precious "locked" state. It would be ridiculous anyway if they tried to say an unlocked bootloader caused an assembly gap.

well you better hope they do not come up with an excuse that it was you who caused that gap and get you to pay for it. you never know with these companies. i feel for you mate cause like me you just want a phone that is perfect and that you can enjoy.
should be getting my one tomorrow. will let you know how i get on. but in your situation i would keep at them and not leave them alone till you get an answer...let me know how you get on bro
I am considering to sue HTC once I have the sam problem with my 3 days old phone. I bought from Expansys.ca and soon I opened it I saw a little gap between the glass and the body. I contacted HTC and they asked to send the phone to a service shop to be fixed. Hey its is a brand new phone, nothing to be fixed here. It is just a Quality Control issue and needs to be replaced under their own warranty statement. The phones come with a defective assemble. I want a new phoe at no extra cost or my money back. If they don't want give me that I am just getting it to court and I am sure I will win.

I can definitely understand your being concerned about there being a gap between the top of the screen and the body of the phone. I’ll be glad to help you, Anderson. I would be extremely concerned about the gap in your phone. If you can actually see inside the phone, it’s very possible that humidity, sweat, and dirt can enter and damage the phone, even in the short term. I would first suggest contacting the retailer you purchased your One X from and see if they can exchange yours for a different one. If for some reason they cannot replace the device for you, we have a repair department that can service your device. You can contact them by calling 1-888-617-1113. They’re available from 06:00 am – 01:00 am EST, 7 days a week. Make sure you have your One X with you if you call, as they will need its serial number to process the repair.

Was staying in a hotel last night and didn't have a charger with me. Battery was about 80% charged but since it was late and I wasn't expecting any calls I went ahead and turned it off.
Got up this morning, hit the power button and.... Nothing. Pulled the battery, popped it back in and.. Nothing. No lights, nothing on the screen, just completely "dead"
Plugged it into the car charger for a few hours, but still got nothing. Saw a friend that has a GN2, tried his battery, but it still won't power on.
I bought the phone on release day (paid full retail), and have had zero problems with it until today. The phone has never been dropped or exposed to moisture in any way.
What I'd like to know is:
A) Has anyone else experienced this? If the phone seems completely "dead" (I.e. no leds, nothing on the screen) Is there anything at all worth trying to get it to power on?
B) The device is rooted running the stock rom and has been since shortly after I bought it. Since it's completely dead I have no way of unrooting it - I've read tons of threads on the whole "warranty void" issue but didn't find many firsthand reports of warranty experiences with Samsung. Am I probably screwed here or do they typically deny warranty service only for people who brick their devices while flashing them?
I already obtained an RMA number from them so I guess I'll find out soon enough but would appreciate any suggestions.

Have you tried to boot to recovery? A different battery would have been the next step. Hopefully, if you can't turn it on, neither can they.

Can't boot to anything. Tried every button combination imaginable but have yet to see any response at all. It behaves exactly like Note 2 that is unplugged with the battery pulled (i.e. dead)
Tried 2 other batteries, still nothing.
No idea how it could just "die" like this. It worked perfectly until I powered it off last night.
I had a Galaxy S3 that done the same thing. But i caused the issue by flashing a wrong kernel on the phone. Anyway mine was replaced with a new one. So hopefully they will not catch that it was rooted. I don't think they spend a whole lot of time trying to find out why the phone will not boot. Good luck.

Was it replaced by the carrier or replaced by Samsung? The only thing Sprint would do for me is give me Samsung's phone number... Samsung told me that the device I send in will be the same device I get back.
It was replaced by Samsung. The in store warranty was expired. So hopefully you will squeeze by and get it replaced or fixed.

and that is a matter of manager discretion....the policy doesn't really state that from what I recall. Like you said, not really a way to prove it didnt just fail let alone that it was rooted.
take it to a corporate repair store, if you don't have insurance call in and add it as this month is an open enrollment month....or pay the $50 for in store service so they can order you a replacememt.

Sprint referred me to Samsung, I called them and they issued me an RMA# (I'm shipping the phone to them today)
While I know Samsung has the right to deny warranty service for issues that arise from modifications to the device (which is completely understandable), I'll be very disappointed if they rely upon that as an excuse not to service my phone. The phone worked perfectly for months rooted w/stock ROM before it decided to no longer turn on.
It should arrive at their Plano, TX facility tomorrow and turnaround is supposed to be ~7 days. I'll update this thread with the outcome in case anyone else runs into this issue.

Wow, I had the same exact experience yesterday night .. with baout 15% battery left.. it just died.. nothing brought it up .. Finally pulled the battery and putting it back somehow brought it back to life.. wonder what was the issue.. I am really wary with these super expensive phones .. and rooting and modifying them with absolutely no support form the manufacturing.

Its not the managers discrection it is the law. Check out the magnusun moss warranty act of 1975... car dealers have been fined millions for not honoring warranties because of aftermarket parts

I had an issue kinda like this. I tried to install the aosp carbon 1.5 rom last night and once the screen timed out or I put the phone to sleep is wouldnt come back up. No lights or anything. I got lucky though. A battery pull fixed it but I noticed the phone was really hot. It probably just about fried the cpu. I rebooted and it seemed to work again untill i tried to put the phone to sleep. This time the screen didnt even shut off it just locked up. I pulled the battery again and then I was able to wipe and install a TW rom and havent had the issue since.
It got hot really quick on that aosp rom. Is it possible that you were OCed any and burnt it out?

Definitely not OCed - device was basically stock w/root. I don't recall the device rarely ever getting "warm" really, and it definitely never got "hot".
Primary reason I needed root was for a modded app I use for day trading equities that I wanted to run it in multi-window mode alongside another app.
Only other thing worth mentioning is that it had been nagging me about the 4.1.2 OTA update (a lot), which i had been repeatedly ignoring. I know once or twice it tried to install and rebooted into TWRP, and each time I'd just hit reboot and the phone would come right back up. This may have been the first time I actually "powered down / turned off" the device since it had been giving me the update prompts. Not sure if that makes a difference?
Phone will arrive at Samsung tomorrow - should hear something later this week.

I think you may have already shipped the phone so I'm probably too late anyway. Were you able to see the phone in adb from your pc? I've had issues similar to yours (no display) and doing an adb reboot recovery got me into recovery.

For future reference, TEP (Sprint's insurance) does not take effect until you make a call with the line that it was applied to. If your phone is broken, but can still make a call, you can add TEP. If your phone will not make a call, then it won't be enrolled.

lol...Sprint didn't manufacturer it. beyond the posted return policy they are under no obligation to handle Samsungs warranty claims

All that is needed to add TEP is a valid ESN. It's effective the date the rep selects...next billing cycle or same day.
anyway...not trying to argue...just curious why Sprint stores are turning away folks rather than charging the $50 and taking care of it. 3rd party maybe?
op....they typically have repaired then reflashed phones in the past at samsung with no questions asked....you will most likely be fine

This is why I love my N4. No BS to get an unbloated phone and if something goes it's easily solved as well.
Update:
I received my phone back from the Samsung repair facility.
They replaced the motherboard and didn't give me any hassles about the device being rooted/modified. Total turnaround time from the day I shipped it was 11 days.
When I received the device it kept failing to activate on Sprint's network. In About device the network was listed as "Samsung" and the serial# was listed as "00000000000". After doing a factory reset it worked and the serial# is no longer displayed in about phone.
Overall I'm grateful to Samsung for taking good care of me under warranty and I'm glad to say I'm as pleased with their service as I am with their products.

Hey guys,
Just bought a brand C6502 and the display is all messed up after not using the phone for more than 15 minutes.
The displays gets all garbled and then either display some lines or just stays a dark grey color. It then sometimes comes back to normal and then gets corrupted again. I managed to do the software update hoping it would fix it, but same issue. I also tried resetting the phone to no avail. I am now trying to see if the seller will do an exchange... not a good feeling.
Word of warning for those of you considering buying this phone from ShopBLT or a place like that which doesn't allow exchange.
Here is a pic of the screen... any recommendations would be appreciated.

Found it... have to open SIM/SD Slot... there is a little "power" button that must be held until device vibrates 3 times.
Screen is still DEAD.
Is there a way to wipe the phone w/o the screen being visible?

Nope Your best bet is to contact the seller and hope they allow an exchange. That sucks.

I'm hoping something positive comes of this... at the moment I'm out the money and the phone is a paperweight.

Why did you go to eBay? Negrielectronics is cheaper than ebay or was cheaper than ebay not sure how much you paid.
If all else fails File a Claim on PayPal and say it arrived like that and send in pictures.

MSRP response to emails a bit late as they get lots of orders but their service has been good for the last two time I dealt with them. once I had a defective phone and they helped very much.
Its possible if you hear back from them after mid-night.

I have dealt with them for other big ticket items and their customer service is why i went back to them for this purchase.

Maybe bad connection between screen and morherboard inside the phone.

Spoke to Jessica on Saturday and today. She only deals with shipping so she was unable to help with my issue but marked my messages as urgent which didn't seem to do much. Finally heard back just now, they want me to send them the unit so they can check it and I suppose go from there. Its progress, but I wish I would have been able to ship it back since Saturday to speed this up.
Twice now I've restarted my phone and its stayed like this until the next restart. Anybody else seen this issue or have any ideas?
The full touch screen still worked so it's just the display part acting up.
This is a sprint model by the way.

I have a friend with similar issue, but hers is maybe a quarter of the screen, sprint also.
Yup i have that problem it comes and goes when it wants..Sprint is aware of it from what a Tech told me I'm waiting for a replacement

No remedies, you'll have to get a replacement, contact Sprint if your device is still under warranty.
An update in case anyone else comes across this issue.
I don't have Sprint insurance but took it to their store anyway. They recognized the problem as a warranty issue right away. Without Sprint insurance they said it would cost me $75 for them to act as a liaison between myself and LG warranty.
Instead I chose to fill out the LG Warranty claim online and ship them my phone. I'm using my old One M8 now and their prepaid FedEx label is carrying the G4 back as we speak.

the thing with sending the phone in yourself is that they repair your actual device, while paying 75 dollars at sprint they give you a brand new device.

Yep I thought about doing an ESN swap, adding insurance to the line, then doing an ESN swap back to the G4. No idea if that would work but it was a thought.

mine just had this happen. I've had my phone for a few months on Sprint and no issues. when I went into my Arlo app to view my wifi cameras at home, I used the pinch and zoom function to zoom in and that's when my half my screen went to a rainbow snow pattern. I took out the battery, rebooted, and no luck. I left it alone for a minute and hit the back power button to light the screen and I had my full screen back. Did my pattern unlock and half the screen went to rainbow snow.
I don't know how that app broke my phone, but it wasn't until I tried to zoom in that this happened. Now I get a full screen sometimes for a minute or two, but then it goes half rainbow snow.
I plan on filling out a support request with LG tonight if this keeps happening. Any thoughts? similar experiences? I do not have insurance through sprint.
I received my T-Mobile warranty repair phone today after my 1st LGG4 died last week. Now I have this crazy flashing poltergeist thing going on!! [emoji35]

Sounds like I'm about 1 week ahead of you. Don't bother taking it to the Sprint store unless you want to shell out $75. Fill out the LG warranty claim online, wait for a FedEx return label, and ship it off. Mine is scheduled to arrive back in my hands tomorrow so I'm hoping I have no further issues.
I too have been having the same issue but I have a small quarter of the screen flicker with that rainbow effect no reboot needed but it gets me a little worried.

I started the ticket and got this response this morning:
"We have received your web support service request online and we would like to inform you that we have not get the correct issue about your unit. If I could reply to the email I'd send them half a dozen links to either pictures are posts of people with the same problem. I'm going to call now and straighten this out. I thought I explained my issue like a handful of others have, but I see this requires some further action.

Has anyone tried flashing these stock KDZ files to fix this issue? I'd go that route if that's all LG will do anyway to try to fix my problem. Just curious if anyone's tried this:

I have a Verizon G4 and have been experiencing this exact issue since day one! At the start, it would only flash on the right half of the screen once in a while, but over the past couple months, it's been getting progressively worse. Yesterday, it became permanent and no amount of restarts or anything I've tried can fix it.
If all else fails, I'll send it in to LG, but I feel like there has to be an easier way. I'm assuming it's a software issue caused by Sprint/Verizon's OS modifications (the H815 never had any problem like this for me), but couldn't it also be a hardware defect, like a loose connection to the screen? If so, it'd probably be relatively easy to fix ourselves, since the G4 is so simple to disassemble.
I'm going to try booting into safe mode and freezing suspicious pre-installed apps first to try to narrow down the cause. I encourage all of you to do the same and post your results so we can get to the bottom of this! It's a more widespread problem than it seems, my friend who got a Verizon G4 around the same time as me has also been having this problem since she got it.
Edit: Can confirm booting into safe mode didn't fix anything. A hardware issue is seeming more and more likely.
I had the same issue recently. Mine was the left side. Nothing fixes the issue. I'm with sprint as well. Got mine replaced. They were on backorder. Took a week. But did get a brand new one. It's working great

Thanks everyone. I just shipped mine off today. I guess I assumed the free label included a box, but I'll eat that if my damn phone is fixed.
I'm not sure what caused the weird screen issue but, I'm very appreciative that T-Mobile replaced my phone immediately without any hassle and on their dime.

i've had this once, except the half was just black, not like the picture showed there.. it went after another reboot, and never came back, but it sure is quite weird. I thought software was at fault though rather than hardware when it happened.. how could half a screen just stop working without software being at fault?
So I just had the half screen issue again for the first time since getting it back from LG nearly 2 months ago
