I am new to this rooting stuff
I boot unlocked and rooted my Xperia play i flasht with a kernel and then it stucks on the Sony Ericsson logo. what to do?
Well you could try reflashing the kernel, but we need a little more information on what exactly happened leading up to it. Another option is just to use flashtool to reflash your phone. If you havent used flashtool before you can use this tutorial:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/tutorial-how-to-flash-a-firmware-using-flashtool-on-xperia-arc/
Just keep in mind thats for the arc, the steps are the same, you just need to grab a .ftf thats made for the Play. You can find those in the dev section.
*EDIT* Make sure to uncheck "clear user data" unless you have everything backed up. Its generally a good idea to clear user data on a new flash but I'd hate for you to lose your data if its not backed up
I fixed it on my own way. But i will give you a thanks anyway
So I found a custom ROM that would work on the R800x. Its DarkForest ROM, I flashed it and it said it installed successfully. I rebooted it and it sat at the Sony Ericsson screen and didn't move. So I did a battery pull and tried again, still nothing. I then tried to get it back into ClockWorkMod recovery and it won't go anywhere except the SE screen. Can someone please help me because I need my phone
If you need more information let me know and I will post it.
Your phone is bricked. Use flashtool, pc companion or seus to fix it.
I never installed that Rom, but you may need to factory reset or wipe cache in some roms after installing. If it isnt that you may be on wrong baseband or kernel and if not that you would need flashtool to go back & flash another firmware. Good luck.
Ios suckkss.
i dont have any help to offer, but were you able to get a functional backup of the stock rom working? i know pc companion can always fix it as long as it can see the phone, but i wanna keep all my apps and stuff if i decide to do anything like a new rom/kernel and gotta go back. i cant figure out how to boot into clockwork mod even tho i have the Xperia CWM Auto-Installer installed and it said it was successful (i uninstalled the app after. should i have left it?) and rom manager (after leaping through hoops getting it to even allow me to try) just reboots with no recoveries available when i try to make one. i know, more work for you, but you can get far enough to flash roms, so i was hoping you could tell me what i need to do?
UPDATE: finally got CWM to work! lol. it wouldnt work til i used the volume buttons. lol. im gonna keep several copies of my current rom just in case. lol. sorry.
This will happen to you for not unlocking your bootloader if u didn't. Thia happenes.to.me once and.I.reflashed the verizon. Tft fike with flashtool. I will reply with a better explaination later

Hello,
First of all, I did try to look for other topics about this issue. However, working through sometimes a couple of hundred pages in a thread and to sift through all the topics here could mean I missed something. If so, I'm sorry, feel free to point me to a fix, and then I'll try that.
So here's my problem,. While trying to root my SE Arc S I seem to have put it in some kind of situation I can't fix: I'm now stuck at running stock ICS 4.04 (4.1.B.0.431), lost my root (and looks like i also lost CWM recovery), can't flash anything and can't root the phone again.
So, would anoyone know how to fix this? Please, keep any instructions as easy and clear as possible. As you'll probably see in the rest of my post i'm pretty new/noob at this stuf.
Here are the things I did to get to this point (before all this I started out with ICS 4.04 build 4.1.B.0.587)
- First I unlocked my bootloader, that seemed to work. I followed the steps on the sony instruction page
- Second, I rooted the phone, by following a combination of the steps in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957 and on another non xda page (the steps seemed similar, but the non xda page was a little clearer/easier/more noob friendly for me.) That also worked, since I could use Titanium Backup (can't now)
- Third, I installed CWM with RecoverX. That worked, since I could enter CWM.
- Fourth, I tried installing different ROM's (cyanogenmod) by storing it on my sd card and installing it via CWM. That's where the problems started.
First of all I couldn't install any of the ROM's i tried. CWM would start installing it and then gave a status 7 error and aborted the installation. After trying the same process a couple of times my phone got stuck on the Sony screen after rebooting.
To fix this i flashed a stock android thingy (not sure if it's a rom, kernel, or whatever, anyway it's the version i'm running now) That worked and my phone at least functioned again.
However, since I don't wanna run this version I looked for ways to flash/install a different one. That's when I noticed I lost my root (an app i dl'ed that needs superuser privilleges didn't work) I tried rooting the phone again, but found I couldn't even flash anything. If i tried that, flashtool would give an error about not recognising the phone and stopped the flashing process. Then i tried to unlock the bootloader again, to see if that might work. But that didn't work either cause again my pc didn't seem to recognise the phone. I also tried using the doomlord root app. That seemed to work, but somehow after finishing it i didn't end up with root priviliges (again, I checked this by trying to use a root required app)
So, now I can't unlock the bootloader, I can't flash anything and I can't root my phone. All I can do is use it. And thought that's obviously the most important thing, I would like to be able to do more with it.
So, does anyone know how to fix this? It all seems to boil down to my phone not getting recognised while in fastboot/flash mode. But I wouldn't know how to fix that...
A lot of thanks in advance for any help!

I had the same problem. First of all if you have bootloader unlocked it is still unlocked even if you had flashed another rom.
What rom did you exactly flashed? What OS do you use on your computer? When I started to flash different stock roms and then to root them then I unlocked my bootloader then the same problem appeared on Windows 8 (I could find no way to make my phone recognisable - don't know why). I tried to flash rom again on another one running on Winows 7 and after instaling drivers from flashtools and instaling sony companion phone started to be recognized.
So try to connect your phone to another Pc (if possible) and then flash any stock rom (for example ICS 4.04 build 4.1.B.0.587) and then (if you have unlocked you bootloader) flash any pre-rooted kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159411).

1. Why did you use XParts? Unlocked bootloader means you can flash a stock kernel with CWM in it.
2. CM ROMs use different kernel, that's why you get status 7. Maybe you can Google a bit on CWM status 7 error? To install Cyanogen ROM, use the included kernel or look for a list of recommended kernels.
3. Flashtool should still work. Can you enter flashboot? Connect your cable to the PC, hold down the back button and connect your cable to it. A blue light means it's successfully connected in flash mode.

Thanks both for the different bits of advice. I dunno how, but it finally works now! In the end I installed sony's pc companion, switched off antivirus and then all of a sudden i could flash things again. Then i just followed the steps to rooting the phone for the second time, and it finally worked. Got my root back and also managed to install a ROM from CWM.
Again, not sure how, maybe i should have just turned off my antivirus from the start, or maybe in retrying all the steps I somehow stumbled across the sollution, but at least it works now

What is XParts? I don't think i used that program. The steps i previously followed might have been redundant in part, but I wanted to be on the safe side and just try all options i could find.
I tried googling for the CWM status 7 error, but couldn't really find any sollution i could work with. And anyway, it's fixed now (i hope, didn't try CM again though)
Flashtool didn't work yesterday. Or at least, it did work but i just couldn't flash anything cause it didn't recognise my phone.
Anyway, thanks again. This is fixed now

Well, I did follow the steps in at least one of those guides. And that worked. So the problem wasn't in working out how to root the phone, but in fixing what went wrong afterwards. The first attempt at rooting worked, but then flashing a ROM failed, the phone stopped working and after fixing that i lost the root and couldn't find a way to reroot it (even ater following all the steps in the guides i previously used, it just didn't work)
So, with all do respect to those guides and their usefullness, as far as I can tell my problem/question wasn't answered in them.
Hi!
So i was actually trying to get rid of the upgrade of the operating system i upgraded (from 4.1.2 i think to 4.2.x), because my phone turned into a slow machine, slow as **** sometimes i actually had to wait 10 secs for a respond. And i also wanted to root it.
So what i did is i backed up my phone on Kies, then installed "PhilZ Touch 6", and wiped all its **** in it, you gotta understand i thought its ok to delete everything now because i back up all my things on Kies i thought its safe now to do anything...
Appearently not...
So after that i rebooted, the samsung galaxy grand 'logo' appeared, then tried installing some roms, without success.
Help please?
Additional info: Kies detects my phone when i connect it, even in download mode if that's helpful.
Please show as much examples/information in the things since i am a noob, never actually had a android phone before.
First you decide what u wanna use.. I mean stock rom (wich is laggy) or aosp roms.. Later go through development thread... Choose any rom u like... Then aftr u download.. Wipe your data.. Cache partition.. And dalvik cache too... Den install the zip you downloaded.. Aftr it finishes reboot the system... First reboot will take more time.. So be patience... Any problem feel free to ask

First of all you need a stable 4.2.2 stock firmware working on your phone, I guess the MK3 firmware will do the job. Dig in the forums and you can find it. Flash it.
Then flash a recovery, CWM or Philz.
Make a Nandroid Backup.
Install the custom ROM you wish to.
Make sure you go through the forums pretty deep.

Tearing my hair out now, I am a bit of a novice at this, but done a few phones before, it is such a minefield!!! I have googled lots and tried to fix it by following various instructions, but just can't. Can some experts please help me? Thanks!!!
I have an Xperia M, which was behaving very oddly, showing as nearly full with hardly any apps. So decided to put CM12.1 on it to see if that sorted it.
Followed official CM instructions (https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_nicki) to install. Followed the process for official Sony bootload unlock, which said it had worked. Got into Cyanogen Recovery, but get odd messages when trying to do the "wipe/factory reset" step. (Odd messages like described here: http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/112974-wipe-data-does-not-work/).
Tried flashing CM12.1 from SD card in Cyanogen Recovery anyway, but it didn't work. Came up with more errors along the lines of "can't mount /data".
Thought I would try to revert to stock (as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277).
Have installed flashtool (including the drivers), downloaded an .ftf file, but when I try to follow these instructions, I point the firmware selector window at the folder I put that in and it just doesn't see it.
At the end of my tether now, anyone got any suggestions as to how I can either get CM12.1 to work (would be great!) or at least get flashed back to stock?
Thanks a lot in advance, really need some help now, have spent hours trying to do this with the help of Google!!!
I have tried flashing CWM (which worked) and using that to wipe/factory reset, and get the same errors. There seems to be something fundamentally borked that is giving me this error:
"failed to mount /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system"
And I can never mount/format the "/data", which is related?
BUT!!!!! I think I have solved it...
...downloaded Archidroid (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m/development/rom-archidroid-v2-5-0-power-hands-t2806978), flashed the boot image for that in fastboot, that gave me TWRP, and that seemed to have extra options which successfully did a factory reset - had to do an extra "format data" which did the trick. Did the Archidroid ROM flash (what a fantastic user friendly installer!!) and it all seems to have worked - no error messages!!!
Phone restarting now, looks promising.
I hope this has worked, not really sure what I did wrong, or why Cyanogen Recovery and CWM could not fix it and TWRP could?!?!?
What fun!
Good to hear, but please post in Q&A, Help, and Troubleshooting subforum next time for these kinds of posts.
Please help!!!! I'm a noob to Sony smartphones and I did something stupid to my newly acquired C1905 sgl sim Xperia M. I tried to unlock boatloader impatiently using that app (apk) can't remember name. Anyways I've used it before on another Samsung phone and ended up in bootloops but I'm clued up on reviving Sammy's! ! And I tried it on the c1905 restarted and nothing. No LEDs no vibrations.. Nothing! ! I was impatient because I didn't have my laptop with me and seems PCs are the only way to do this on Sony's. Last night I messed and messed and the only progress after loads of forums and windows downloads I've managed to change the device (in device manager) from QHS_DOWNLOAD to the drivers recognising the device as a Sony... Will have to check again on laptop. Still no responses whatsoever from phone at all. Please help
Edit - as per device manager windows is saying "Sony Ericsson sa0101" with ADB interface driver and its working properly.
I did install loads of different driver packages. Some failed some didn't. Thanks
