Hello,
First of all, I did try to look for other topics about this issue. However, working through sometimes a couple of hundred pages in a thread and to sift through all the topics here could mean I missed something. If so, I'm sorry, feel free to point me to a fix, and then I'll try that.
So here's my problem,. While trying to root my SE Arc S I seem to have put it in some kind of situation I can't fix: I'm now stuck at running stock ICS 4.04 (4.1.B.0.431), lost my root (and looks like i also lost CWM recovery), can't flash anything and can't root the phone again.
So, would anoyone know how to fix this? Please, keep any instructions as easy and clear as possible. As you'll probably see in the rest of my post i'm pretty new/noob at this stuf.
Here are the things I did to get to this point (before all this I started out with ICS 4.04 build 4.1.B.0.587)
- First I unlocked my bootloader, that seemed to work. I followed the steps on the sony instruction page
- Second, I rooted the phone, by following a combination of the steps in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957 and on another non xda page (the steps seemed similar, but the non xda page was a little clearer/easier/more noob friendly for me.) That also worked, since I could use Titanium Backup (can't now)
- Third, I installed CWM with RecoverX. That worked, since I could enter CWM.
- Fourth, I tried installing different ROM's (cyanogenmod) by storing it on my sd card and installing it via CWM. That's where the problems started.
First of all I couldn't install any of the ROM's i tried. CWM would start installing it and then gave a status 7 error and aborted the installation. After trying the same process a couple of times my phone got stuck on the Sony screen after rebooting.
To fix this i flashed a stock android thingy (not sure if it's a rom, kernel, or whatever, anyway it's the version i'm running now) That worked and my phone at least functioned again.
However, since I don't wanna run this version I looked for ways to flash/install a different one. That's when I noticed I lost my root (an app i dl'ed that needs superuser privilleges didn't work) I tried rooting the phone again, but found I couldn't even flash anything. If i tried that, flashtool would give an error about not recognising the phone and stopped the flashing process. Then i tried to unlock the bootloader again, to see if that might work. But that didn't work either cause again my pc didn't seem to recognise the phone. I also tried using the doomlord root app. That seemed to work, but somehow after finishing it i didn't end up with root priviliges (again, I checked this by trying to use a root required app)
So, now I can't unlock the bootloader, I can't flash anything and I can't root my phone. All I can do is use it. And thought that's obviously the most important thing, I would like to be able to do more with it.
So, does anyone know how to fix this? It all seems to boil down to my phone not getting recognised while in fastboot/flash mode. But I wouldn't know how to fix that...
A lot of thanks in advance for any help!

I had the same problem. First of all if you have bootloader unlocked it is still unlocked even if you had flashed another rom.
What rom did you exactly flashed? What OS do you use on your computer? When I started to flash different stock roms and then to root them then I unlocked my bootloader then the same problem appeared on Windows 8 (I could find no way to make my phone recognisable - don't know why). I tried to flash rom again on another one running on Winows 7 and after instaling drivers from flashtools and instaling sony companion phone started to be recognized.
So try to connect your phone to another Pc (if possible) and then flash any stock rom (for example ICS 4.04 build 4.1.B.0.587) and then (if you have unlocked you bootloader) flash any pre-rooted kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159411).

1. Why did you use XParts? Unlocked bootloader means you can flash a stock kernel with CWM in it.
2. CM ROMs use different kernel, that's why you get status 7. Maybe you can Google a bit on CWM status 7 error? To install Cyanogen ROM, use the included kernel or look for a list of recommended kernels.
3. Flashtool should still work. Can you enter flashboot? Connect your cable to the PC, hold down the back button and connect your cable to it. A blue light means it's successfully connected in flash mode.

Thanks both for the different bits of advice. I dunno how, but it finally works now! In the end I installed sony's pc companion, switched off antivirus and then all of a sudden i could flash things again. Then i just followed the steps to rooting the phone for the second time, and it finally worked. Got my root back and also managed to install a ROM from CWM.
Again, not sure how, maybe i should have just turned off my antivirus from the start, or maybe in retrying all the steps I somehow stumbled across the sollution, but at least it works now

What is XParts? I don't think i used that program. The steps i previously followed might have been redundant in part, but I wanted to be on the safe side and just try all options i could find.
I tried googling for the CWM status 7 error, but couldn't really find any sollution i could work with. And anyway, it's fixed now (i hope, didn't try CM again though)
Flashtool didn't work yesterday. Or at least, it did work but i just couldn't flash anything cause it didn't recognise my phone.
Anyway, thanks again. This is fixed now

Well, I did follow the steps in at least one of those guides. And that worked. So the problem wasn't in working out how to root the phone, but in fixing what went wrong afterwards. The first attempt at rooting worked, but then flashing a ROM failed, the phone stopped working and after fixing that i lost the root and couldn't find a way to reroot it (even ater following all the steps in the guides i previously used, it just didn't work)
So, with all do respect to those guides and their usefullness, as far as I can tell my problem/question wasn't answered in them.

Hi
I am really thankful for the all the developers involved in the development of Jelly sandwich ROM (latest release), which is one of the most awesome custom ROM (I believe).
However, I've personally tried to install the ROM but failed several times, as my arc just gets stuck at SONY LOGO
I have also tried browsing different threads on this forum to locate a similar issue however could not find one stating the above issues with ROM installation. I am very sure there is something that I missing or failing to do right, therefore seek some help from the right team,
Unfortunately there is no list / screenshot made available by the developers to help understand the best option to select in the AROMA installer.
I am creating this thread here assuming some helping hand would be provided with the above issue.
Thank you.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc - Stock kernel (.587) .. Stock ICS 4.0.4 rom
I wanted to install the new 6.1 jelly sandwich. Followed instructions for people coming from older JB - just update via CWM but after doomkernel logo screen goes, and remains black.
Then i wiped everything and tried to install as I would be coming from other rom - the same result.
Then i went for the "if something goes wrong" option, again with the same result.
Now im restoring my previous 5.0 JS hoping it will work normally
Anyone else having similar issues?
Im running Lt15i on doomkernel, jelly sandwich 5.0 from maxio1998
thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836993
Same problem here with JS, Remix and Pureness. Tried each one several time.
Every time get stuck on Sony logo and then I have to restart the long process for restoring 587 with root.
I carefully followed procedure for each ROM.

Bootloader unlocked with s1tool and testpoint: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551494&highlight=bootloader
... SimUnlocked with purchase code from cellunlocker (Rogers phone).
Was never able to boot in fastboot (tried a lot!!! no blue light except when cwm is installed with flashtool), so no custom kernel
And in Service info it says Bootloader unlock allowed : no (flashtool says its already unlock when I try to do it)
I'm discouraged
Jelly Sandwich
I had exactly the same issue as well. I was on locked bootloader. Tried several times. Got fed up trying because everytime i would flash the rom, CWM would get wiped off. So i decided to unlock the bootloader, root and flash kernel and rom. And VOILA! Success! But......The only issue im facing is that the Data network doesn't seem to be working. But i think its a kernel issue, not rom related. If anyone can help with my issue there then that would be great. Other than that the rom works Great!

Looks like I will have to unlock my bootloader after hearing your story
I think mount system and even format system solved the exact same issue you are having thou I'm now back to GB because of the extra ram it can offer and more games support without fc.
Hello everyone,
I've always rooted my Xperia Arc, but beceause that little icon that is screaming out, UPDATE ME, I updated en rooted again. And beceause I was searching for how to root 4.1.B.0.587, I saw some things about custom roms, and I was trying to install one. After I succeeded I wasn't tottaly happy with the rom, so I found MooDed ICS, and now I want to try that rom. But the problem is, the installation of the rom failes.
1.First I wanted to install DooMKernel, so I tried using fastboot tool, (The one you type in flashboot fast boot boot.img), but that didn't work. It kept saying Waiting For Device (Unlocked Bootloader, ADB Drivers, USB Drivers, Unknown Resources, USB Debugging, Tried both on Windows 8 as on Windows Vista) So once I gave up on that one, I tried it with flash tool, and it succeeded (At least it said it did) (Attachment 1, the one with a picture of flashtool doing his thing) (Can't upload photos cause this is a new account so need to attach)
2. Then I Booted up my phone, and it gave errors like, proces, android stopped, just the ones you get when you are going to root your phone (First put the 4.1.B firmware on it, then an unstable one which is giving errors then you root but after that you put a stable kernel back) That was weird but I was still hoping the MooDed ICS was going to work.
3. But then when I choose the zip file from the DooMKernel recovery, it gave an error like this, and my phone didn't get past the DoomLord booting logo. (Second attachment, the photo of my phone)
So I dont know what to do now, my only guess is that DoomKernel doesnt want to work on 4.1.B, but that would be strange cause on youtube videos of that kernel with that version are working.
(Third attachment, Flashtool menu)
These are the kernels I use (First flash the full version, then downgrade to root, after that flash the working kernel back)
[KERNEL][ARC/ARC S] DooMKernel {ICS} [Rel:v5][Dt:18/MAY][FW:ICSBeta/.562(LEAK)]
It's an old kernel, use something else or find an old ROM to work with it.

But shouldnt it work with the normal kernel(the last one I flashed using flashtoo) then, cause I get the same.error?
That doesn't look like MoodedICS, you're trying to install.
And search on the forum, these errors have been discussed so many times.

Of course I've searched but I couldn't find it....
I have rooted my Telus LG Optimus LTE (P935) successfully.
It is just the CyanogenMod 10.1 recovery image that isn't working for me.
I get the
Code:
---------------
Secure booting Error!
Cause : boot certification verify
-------------------------
------------------------------
Enter the fastboot...
Enter the fastboot...
Long time no see!

message when I boot to recovery.
Is there a simple fix for this i.e. use an different Cyanogen Mod, or my phone isn't really rooted at all and I think it is, or...?
The phone boots into the Telus ICS just fine, works ok and all, but if I want the thing to be upgradeable over time, I think I don't want to just rely on Telus to keep it up to date, do I?

You have to unbrick; final answer. No other way around it. Just pick one of the numerous guides here in the general section and follow it.

Thanks for that, but I just want to confirm that even though I have superuser installed and working, and ClockWorkMod is installed and working, and when I boot the device normally it loads up into Ice Cream Sandwich just fine, and everything works great, I STILL have to follow a full "Unbrick" procedure just to get a "proper" recovery.img onto the device?
I'm not afraid of ADB / command line, but if you say "do the unbrick", well, OK, but could you recommend a SPECIFIC guide? The one I used to get where I am is this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554255
as recommended in this post:
Root Telus P935? post #13
So could you advise if I should retry that method or if I should try a different method, which one might be most likely to leave me with a LG Optimus LTE with a more-current version of Android than 4.0.4, AND leave the device with the ability to update to subsequent Android releases (either stock or Cyanogen?)
I am just trying to avoid a lot of fruitless trial and error if there's a known "best way" to do what I'm trying to do.

I haven't asked and I am only assuming that you are on an official version of ICS, right? If that is the case, it is fully possible to have root privs yet fail to flash a working recovery.
The thing is; if you are trying for a custom recovery, such as TWRP or CWM, then most assuredly you must unbrick. On the official ICS releases, having root privs means nothing as far as flashing a custom recovery is concerned.
Flashing a custom recovery+ROM will not hinder your ability to update either your custom ROM or upgrade to any (unlikely) future LG update.
As for which method is best, I personally say that ANY of them work as I have tried each one listed on this board and have encountered not one single problem. My personal recommendation is Hereric's guide, but in general, they all do just about the same thing. Other members do not share my "luck" as problems have been experienced with each method. The most important thing is to read through the guide a few times before starting it. One thing I will recommend is that since you have a P935, whichever method you choose, make sure you use a P93x .kdz instead of the Korean SU640 .kdz. I mean, it will work with either one, but there are a few minor gremlins that can pop up if you use the SU640 .kdz to unbrick.

Thanks very much for this detailed response... I'll get to it this evening and post back when I've done it.
Cyanogenmod 10.1 now stuck at boot screen
I have got Cyanogen 10.1 installed, now it's stuck on the cyan (I just got that!) boot logo (the circle with the hexagon screen with the moving spokes) and left it in that state far longer than should have been necessary for first boot... should I not have used 10.1?

Shouldn't matter which ROM you install. I'd wipe everything and try it again; or try a different ROM. You should be good to go once you've unbricked.
first boot with cm 10.1 will take about 10 minutes if i remember right, its probly not stuck on logo, just wait and let it install., if u leave it on logo for 30 min and its not booted redownload/flash it again.

I had to flash / boot a few times... another tip is that in order for the "boot to recovery" to work, you first have to do a full wipe: once I realized that I was able to get various cyanogenmod firmwares onto the device and if I had problems, had to do a wipe then I could use the recovery firmware to try another.
So I'm not a complete and utter n00b here, as I've been rooting and installing CM for at least three years now on several different phones. But this problem vexes me...
Patient: SIII, formerly rooted and running CM10.1 just fine. A few weeks ago, I tried to install a 10.2 stable build, and it somehow took my root away. I tried every trick I knew how - installing the root files via Odin (many versions), via ADB, via Kingo Root...nothing. Absolutely nothing I try will get this thing to give me my root back, and the ads are starting to really get on my nerves.
My ticker says 15 attempted installs, but I don't think it's blocking me from rooting...is it? All the phones I've rooted I've never had a problem like this, where absolutely nothing will allow root to "take", such as it is.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks!
Wow, nothing? I figured someone would at least sigh heavily, berate me for not reading the forums completely, then point me to a thread where this has been discussed ad nauseum
Last night, I tried rooting with TWRP, CWM, every variant and trick I could find to get this thing to root for me, and while these things all seem to load fine, none of them give me my root access back. No one has any ideas?
Thanks!
help
im using rooted 4.3 stock rom in t999..
everytime i boot into recovery it says "fixed root"
any solve for this?????
Did you dirty flash CM10.2 over CM10.1? if so, it might have failed to write the partition completely/correctly. I would suggest to backup everything that you can (adb backup or similar) and then wipe everything then reflash fresh CM10.2.0 + GApps + SuperSU or Koush's Superuser flashable zip.
Hi all
Hopefully someone will be able to help me here as have spent all day going round in circles and finally decided I need to stop stabbing in the dark and ask for help from people who know what there doing.
My son has a Sony Xperia M (C1905). He's always running out of space with all the games he likes to play on it so I thought I would move them to a removable 8GB SD card for him. After downloading and installing a app that should have allowed me to move them I was still unable to so I did a Google and found out that its not possible with this phone with out rooting it.
At this point I started looking into how to do it and found out I needed to unlock my boot loader. I used this site (developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader) to get the code required and used the code in "Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde V0.9.18.1" to unlock it with out any problems. When I restarted the phone it would get stuck on the operator logo (Three UK) no matter how many times i restarted it or pulled the battery out.
Since then I have tried various different ROMS for the Xperia M, both installed via the CWM (zip file) and via the flash program (ftf file), also I have tried a few different versions of the CWM. All of this has got me no closer to getting the phone working again. I either get errors while trying to install the ROM or it installed fine and just goes into a boot loop.
I don't believe I have bricked the phone as I can still do everything on it (flash more, fastboot mode, format etc in CWM) i just cant get the phone to boot up correctly. Also drivers are installed on my pc fine so dont think its a problem with that either. I do think it cold just be not using the correct ROM, CWM, KERNEL?
Would someone please be able to help me out here and give me a step by step guide of what I need to do (in simple terms) along with what files to use. I'm not after the latest Android version as long as its a recent version, the only thing it has to be able to do is move apps to the SD card.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi,
You will need to flash the phone with the stock firmware.
Here is the topic that explains how to do it using Flashtool and also contains links to the firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277
Once your phone is unlocked, you can follow this topic to install CM11 on your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584956
and lastly, this tutorial will help you use your SD card as an internal storage: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711280&page=2
Thank you so much for your reply.
I was just coming to say that I had somehow managed to get CyanogenMod 11 rom installed and working fine (all be it with a lot of apps like play store etc missing. Do i have to install them after?)
ill have a look at the links you provided as well. thanks

If everything is working properly then you just apply the topic on the swap (last point of my first post), there are several method for each variant (which is on stock rom or CM11)
