At the moment,, I am on CM9, but one thing I really miss from the AOKP rom is the ability to use volume keys to move cursor when editing text. Is there a mod/ app I could install on cm9 to do the same thing?

Simply grab LatinIME.apk from the aokp rom and replace the one in CM9.

Thanks I'll try that. However, where would I enable this option ? As far as I remember, in AOKP it's under ROM Control, so this would not be in CM9 ?
Also, do I need to put the APK file into the CM9 rom zip file and re-apply rom, or can I simply use root explorer to replace the APK and then reboot ?
Hello,
I tried and it's not about LatinIME.apk. It's a framework patch and I'm desperately trying to figure out how to have this option. I mean the system wide volume key cursor control (works with third party kb).
So, if anybody knows what is the files to replace, I'm all ears.
Thanks.
My new app Cursor Control lets you use the volume keys to easily move the cursor in text fields and works without Root.

I am currently using CM7.2 which gives me the option to change what my long-press menu/home keys open, I usually set my menu key to open my Messaging app, I am anxious to switch to CM9 but I have noticed it does not have this option anymore. Does anybody know of a mod or application that can replace this customization option that CM7.2 offered?
Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know which JB roms allow you to remove the soft keys? I'm currently running the final AOKP nightly but am looking to try others. Thanks.
If you remove the soft keys how do you plan on navigating thru the phone... unless there's something I haven't seen, the soft keys are needed

You can add qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 to you build props to remove the onscreen buttons

I've been wondering this too.

For what reason......
The buttons disappear when they need to.
Not like they take up space on the screen. They are needed and available when they are needed and go away when they aren't needed so why try to remove something you will need.
I dont get it.
If you still want to try to remove the buttons I believe I seen this option available in the JB Sourcery ROM for the Nexus. Read about JB Sourcery here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833834
Paranoid Android supports it.

I use LMT Launcher to hide the soft keys, the come up when I command them to. It gives more screen real estate. I use it on top of Nova. YOu can set gestures if you want as well. Once I got rid of them, I couldn't stand having them on my screen anymore. Now if only every app came in full-screen mode, my life would be complete.

Is there a file I can download that allows me to remove the action bar? Or do I need to use a different ROM?

Upload your framework-res.apk and I'll send you a .zip.
You can add this line to your build.prop
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 or let Jubakuba edit your current framework.apk

Good solution...
But the harder solution is "better" in that you'll still get ICS+ optimized menu buttons. (You know, the three dots. If apps see that you "don't have" a NavBar" they don't show the three dots...since that generally means you have a hard menu button).
Decompile framework-res.apk
/res/values/dimens.xml holds three lines in relation to navbar size. Edit all three to 0.0.
Profit.
For this person your edited framework would be best. In my case I use gesture to control back, home, menu & power off/on, so the build.prop is best for me.
How do I do that?

Use a file explorer to copy it from /system/framework/framework-res.apk
To your SD card.
Upload somewhere.

Is possible for non-rooted? Any apk for remove the action bar? I use not any Rom .... any answers is welcome ... I appreciate it! Thanks!

Hi.
I've seen some threads about mods for the menu button but never ending with a flashable zip.
I really like the CM10 feature of customising the long press of the capacitive menu button. I make it show my recent apps and that way I don't have to press the hardware home button.
Has anyone found a zip with this mod? It would be great to be able to use it with any Rom. Right now I'm on WanamLite JB and would like to add this feature to this Rom.
Thanks.
Not possible to use cm10 feature on samsung rom
《swagged from aokp》
I've seen a zip that allows the on screen buttons of the nexus and I tried it. It's not perfect but I though something similar could be done with a zip that tweaks the menu button.
I'm not talking about bringing the CM10 feature to stock Rom, but maybe doing something similar to the on screen buttons could work?

Hi,
It's possible with an alternative launcher like Nova Launcher (and maybe Apex Launcher too)...
But if you don't want use another launcher... Actually there is no mod for this as far as I know.

I AM using Nova Prime. But please explain what a launcher has to do with our hardware menu button?
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9300 mit Tapatalk 2
The nova launcher is not what we are looking for. We need this feature everywhere on the system, not just in the launcher and home screen.
CM10 has this feature enabled. There must be a way to extract it from there and install it on a Samsung rooted rom.
If we can flash a zip to enable on screen home buttons like the nexus then I'm sure it's possible to flash a zip just to mod the long press of the capacitive menu button to act like multitasking.

I'm running Task650 and ktoonsez's AOKP (the 04/23 build) and I'm a bit stumped, if not just missing something.
I'd like to customize the capabilities of my hardware keys, namely the longpress actions. I've been using the Navigation Bar and been loving it for the most part, however I am still curious about the aforementioned.
Anybody aware of a way to customize the hardware key longpress actions on AOKP?

I don't know on AOKP but I do know that Deviant Rom is based on AOKP (Along with many others) and it gives me the option to. Personally I love hardware over the navigation bar, I hate the navigation bar
So in other words you should have the option

update:
tricky to setup (not very clear instructions at least for me) but it works, now i have everything setup as i want.
aokp should REALLY allow you to customize actions on hardware keys, its supposed to be THE most customizable rom flavor
