First off, yes I know there are a bagillion threads on not being able to root, and I have spent hours looking through them and my issue isn't resolved, so hear me out.
I just got a Droid Incredible (has Froyo and an AMOLED screen) after my Droid 1 cracked its screen (easily rooted, btw), and tried rooting this with unrevoked 3.32 (newest from his site). I followed this explicit guide verbatim (here).
Unrevoked fails to root, install recovery, or turn off security, giving me the ERROR "Backup CID is Missing" that is mentioned in the guide, so I follow the linked instructions on how to manually flash a recovery image to the device (here)
After booting into hboot with the PC36IMG.zip file on my SD card, hboot scans and says no image or wrong image found for all four checks.
SUMMARY: I cannot flash a custom recovery, so cannot flash a ROM, so no root, and security is still enabled.
I tried using ADB to flash it manually following this, but I get the following error in cmd prompt
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
sending 'recovery' (4200 KB)... OKAY [ 0.606s]
writing 'recovery'... INFOsignature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 1.183s
Some notes that people said to try:
- I have tried three SD cards that all work in my Droid 1
- I reformatted all of them to FAT32 to be sure
- I have tried two windows 7 computers with ADB and unrevoked
- I do not have HTC sync, but I tried installing it and uninstalling like the guide suggests
- I have removed all drivers and reinstalled the unrevoked once again
- I uninstalled Dropbox
- Debugging is enabled, as is everything else in the first guide
- I tried many PC36IMG.zip files (clockwork, RA, stock, different versions) (named them .zip, extracted .img, PC31, etc)
Help would be much appreciated because I am too used to root on my Droid 1!
You mention PC36IMG.zip more than once in your posting, so I assume it isn't a typo.
OTOH, no such file has anything to do with the Incredible. That's a filename for the EVO.
On the Incredible we have files called (or renamed to) PB31IMG.zip,
True, I was following an Incredible guide that sent me there. My bad, not used to dealing with this from my old phone. Thanks for pointing that out.
Well I tried the correct PB31IMG.zip files and the same thing happens in hboot. It says loading...all the zip files... checking... then goes away. Like this one for instance, I took the clockwork PB31IMG.zip. I never get prompted to install the zip.
If I go to recovery, I see a phone with a red triangle on it and the phone is frozen.
I'm in the same boat with my incredible replaement i just got, idk wtf is up with it. i wish i had a old unrevoke version before 3.2 cause i only flashed my last replacement a month ago without a hitch. can anyone pleasssssee upload the version before the one thats currently out for unrevoked so i can try it? It might just cure both of our issues.
do you have the correct modified hboot driver from unrevoked installed? you need to boot your phone into hboot and connect the usb cable let it install driver then go into device manager and maually change the driver to the one they provide... I have rooted 5 SLCD fresh out of box incredibles in the past 2 weeks with unrevoked with 0 issues...

My droid shows up fine, the entire process runs, my phone reboots into Hboot starts the rooting process it gets to the final step of flashing clockwork recovery and bam i get the error unable to validate :: Cid is missing, along those lines like was mentioned above.
I think the issue is on Unrevokeds side. i flashed my replacement before this not more then a month ago but deleted that version of unrevoked. if you have the older jan 8th version id love if you could upload it or upload your current version if its different please.
Hey Guys,
Right I've been up all night trying to fix this but now I'm at the stage where I need your wisdom!
Problem:
Got a rooted, s-off'd HTC desire (originally on 3 UK running a 3 branded rom, rooted via goldcard method)
It was running Redux and the hboot I was using was CM7. I decided to change back to Oxygen, and proceeded to flash the Oxygen Hboot. I also flashed the latest version of Clockwork Mod Recovery. All was done through terminal in ubuntu using fastboot. I also erased cache, system and boot, before rebooting into recovery and flashing Oxygen. Seemed to install fine so I rebooted into Oxygen and it loaded up. During the setup process my phone informed me that it couldn't find a SIM card. Rebooted into recovery and wiped everything (including dalvik) and still the same problem persisted.
It was at this time I found out that I couldn't mount my SD card either (either in Oxygen or in recovery).
Followed the usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed method to resolve the SD card problem.
I used the OP's zip file attached, missed out step 1 and carried on from step 2 (used my Blackberry to get the update file on the SD card).
Anyway it all seemed fixed and Oxygen was booting up fine, sim card was being read, but I found that most of the time my laptop would not discover my phone when attached in storage mode.
Then I decided to start from scratch and restore my desire to a stock htc rom. After preparing my goldcard and getting the RUU I ran the update. The ROM I installed was: RUU_Bravo_H3G_UK_1.22.771.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.0 6.00.02_2_release_127568_signed.exe
(I tried installing a stock froyo RUU before that one and I couldn't. It came up with an error that said invalid vendor ID or something similar)
The restore seemed to go fine until the update utility told me everything was done and rebooted my phone. End result was that the phone's LCD is now not working at all. I've checked the back of my phone's box and all that is written in there is:
Display - 3.7-inch touch-sensitive screen.
The phone boots (it's making all the noises etc). I can get it into fastboot as well and get fastboot oem bootloader info etc. But ADB is not working and I've got a feeling the wrong RUU has been flashed hence screen death.
To make things worse, when I plug the desire into my laptop (with a fresh install of htc sync to flash new rom etc) device manager sees it as: qualcomm cdma technologies msm.
It won't recogize it as a htc desire at all. Tried a different laptop with new htc sync install etc but still the same issue.
Spent like 5/6 hours last night trying to figure this out but now I'm stuck.
Seems like the only access I have to the phone is via fastboot. Is there anything I can do to recover this phone?
Any help would be appreciated.

had a look at that, however thing is I can't access adb at all..and i got a feeling my goldcard didn't work so I can't create a new one as i cannot find out the CID..
The only thing I can do is use fastboot to reboot into rebootRUU and try to flash the ROM manually. It keeps failing and giving the following error:
c:\android-sdk-windows\tools>fastboot flash zip rom.zip

Tried flashing a h3G rom and it flashes but still no screen...I can only find two h3g roms. anyone come across any other [uk] three network RUU?
Fixed!!!!
After much google searching/reading over here at XDA and modaco I finally figured it out
1) Made a new gold card, flashed a froyo RUU via fastboot which brought the SLCD back to life and gave me a working froyo unrooted rom (still with no adb/usb access)
2) Created a new misc partition img file using various guides available.
3) Used quanchi's guide to use rageagainstthecage exploit, to allow the misc partition to be flashed.
Laptop is correctly recognizing the desire now
Quitly Brilliant .. ;-) I guess 1st thing you need to do is create a goldcard while your mobile is working
Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my HTC desire.
I was running Leedroid for more than 6 months and everything was fine.
Yesterday morning, my phone went battery-dead and then when I started it plugin-in to the power socket it turned on and got stuck at the HTC screen.
I can enter bootloader (I guess ?) by pressing power + back but then I don't know what to do (I have a white screen with several menus I can browse with vol up/down) ?
I also tried going with a RUU (RUU MoDaCo Version: 1.15.405.4) and it does detect my phone but won't finish.
Is there anything I can do ?

Why won't it finish?
No idea, it doesn't say.
I believe my phone is soft bricked, I can access hboot and fastbood so i'm pretty sure I can do something about it.
I read something about a unbrick thing you could launch from fastboot ? But can't find it.

Try to flash this ruu:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
Boot phone in fastboot mode and follow instructions on the screen. Does it give you any errors?
Everything goes well, it does the sending part then gets stuck at signature update:
ERROR [132]: SIGNATURE ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android Phone.
Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.
Click 'Exit' to quit.

FYI I tried to create a gold card but adb devices doesn't return anything so I don't know if I can create a goldcard.
fastbood devices does return something though.

Adb will run only if adb debugging is allowed, so Booted state or recovery state. In fastboot mode, only Fastboot will run. Have you overwritten recovery yet? If not, you flash another rom. If yes, are you S-Off? If so, you can flash an Hboot/recovery in Fastboot mode

You cant flash custom roms from fastboot
You can flash recovery, and each of the .img files included in the Clockworkmod backup folder, but only if you're S-off. Apparently you're S-On (Security on. For S-off, Alpharev should have been used)..
Were you foresighted enough to make a gold card? If you hadnt, you have to find the RUU you successfully flashed last, or the RUU corresponding to the region of your device and brand.
You can read more on two of the threads I started. Click on my userid, and choose "Threads started by DZ". Look for "How to unbrick an SLCD Desire (which works for AMOLED too)" and "How to unroot" both of which should give you a comprehensive idea of how to approach your problem. Any queries pertaining to those threads can be asked there, or after reading it, here.

I don't have a goldcard
I read on your posts that I can take my sdcard to another DESIRE phone and make it a goldcard so I'll try that tomorrow.
Any other idea ?

Making a goldcard is the solution. And you can get the CID from any Android phone.
You definitely need to create a gold card. To create a goldcard see this: http://www.nazriawang.com/2010/04/ho...th-ubuntu.html
It is in unbutu, but maybe you can sort it out. Have a look.
OK I now have a goldcard: took a friends phone (same phone, same carrier) and put my sdcard in there and used modaco's tool.
Now the next step is to install a valid RUU for my region, right ?
If I do so it seems to go past the last error but gets stuck at
ERROR [140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
Thanks
Hello ! I tried using a different RUU (the one suggested bu MatDroid: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed) and it has -almost- worked !
The update went until the end but now my phone boots and reboots after a couple of seconds (not fixed: sometimes I can go to unlock my simcard, sometimes a bit longer ...)
I'm getting desperate everytime I think I'm making advance there something new.
Now what ? I'm gone back to the original state: frozen on HTC screen
I tried re-running the RUU (this time the latest I could find: RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe)
Everything goes well, it says it is successful but then it reboots and gets stuck with HTC screen
Hey guys, went to the bootloader and erased all data. This time for some reason it rebooted fine and now the phone seems to be working.
Now I would like to have some advice:
- What can I do so in the future I have all I need for recovering ?
- I already have a goldcard
- what about the recovery ? Should I install something ?
- I liked leedroid, so thinking of going back to 2.5 what do you think?
Thanks for your help you re the best !
EDIT: well I thought it was working but here I am again. Reboot after reboot. This time the first one happened after 15 solid minutes and now it reboots every 30 seconds I barely have the time to enter my pincode ...
Anyone has an idea ?
I've found a way to stabilize my phone, which is by not putting my SIMcard in, but not sure how long it's gonna take before the next reboot.
I don't know what to do. Was thinking in downgrading using teppic74 tool but everytime I download it I get an error: corrupted file.
Can't see the end of it.
Guys, in the end I re-did the whole process: use RUU then delite data in the recovery and it seems to work.
I guess those RUU don't always work fine the first time.
Thanks to you all for your help

So ur phone dont boot, no recovery, s-on so cant flash recovery so the only option would be to flash the correct ruu for ur phone or the 2.3 gb upgrade from htc dev. About the 7 vibrations, that usually means hardware issue. Try a ruu, its ur only option really coz of s-on.
Thanks for that. How do I do that?
I downloaded something called Revolution, but that didn't see the phone when in fastboot.
I also downloaded something called AlphaRev, but that didn't see the phone either.
A link to the latest ruu would be helpful, too.
[Later] Found the ruu on HTC website at http://www.htcdev.com/process/legal_download/152, and am downloading it.

ruu is official software from htc (rom upgrade utility)
2.3 gb upgrade from HTCDev as exe
2.3 gb upgrade as PB99IMG
The "exe" version u must run from ur computer while in bootloader
The "PB99IMG" version u must put on ur sdcard (not in a folder) then boot into bootloader and bootloader will find PB99IMG and ask to update? press volume up for yes.
Make sure u have atleast 50% ish on ur battery and do NOT interrupt the process. Both files do the same, its just 2 different ways of flashing the ruu. Good luck
PS: just make sure this does'nt apply to u (im guessing u read this part before downloading the 2.3 gb upgrade)
Exclusions: The following regional variants are not-compatible with this upgrade: Germany (Deutsch Telekom), North America, South America, South Korea, Japan, Turkey, and Arabic language speaking countries in the Middle East
OK, I've downloaded it, and extracted the rar file. This contains some apk files, and HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade.zip. If I unzip the latter, it contains a pdf and an exe. I have run the exe, and it does not recognise the phone.
What now?
[Sorry, that crossed in the post]
I am now trying the PB99IMG.

No idea. I did download some drivers, but they wouldn't install on Windows 8. Plus, AndroidFlasher didn;t seem to need any.
Anyhow, I have installed the PB99IMG, and now the behaviour is very slightly different - instead of just showing a red circle, it now just shows a white page with an HTC logo, then buzzes 7 times.
Looks like I have a hardware problem?

Yh im affraid so. The ruu worked coz u get the htc splash screen but because of the 7 vibrations u had before i kind thought that it still wouldnt boot. That 7 vibrations is a well known problem with the desire. The only fix is a new motherboard. A shop could prob fix it but they would charge a good 100 euro. Try ebay n find a desire with broken screen etc, they go for cheap and u could change motherboard urself, its fairly easy.
Hi everybody, first of all many thanks for a great forum. I have found it very useful in the past and never needed to seek help, but this time I am stumped and although I read pretty well all the threads on the subject I have not been able to solve my problem and I fear I have a paper weight on my hands.
My Desire does not boot up and stays on the HTC logo on a white screen for ever. This happened after a stupid and unresearched attempt to downgrade my Hboot from 1.03 to earlier ones with RUU_Bravo_H3G_UK_1.20.771.3_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_124822.exe.
The process worked fine but my Desire never managed to reboot and got stuck on the opening logo.
I can go into HBOOT USB PLUG and I can charge the battery (the led comes on and eventually goes green). The HBoot screen reads:
LOCKED (00W)
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT - 1.03.0003
TOUCH PANEL - SYNT0101
RADIO - 4.05.00.11
Date 21 2011 - 20:44:09
I can do FASTBOOT DEVICES and get
HT06XPL00452 fastboot
but any other operation with fastboot always gives me:
FAILED (status malformed (1 bytes)
Does anybody know what this means?
I also tried:
** to rerun the official RUU but I get a clearly wrong message saying that the battery is below 30% charge and the program stops.
** several other RUUs with same result except RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2_29_405_5_Radio_32_49_00_32U_5_11_05_27_release_159811_signed.exe which leads to ERROR [170]: USB CONNECTION ERROR. I know the USB Hboot drivers are ok and are those I downloaded from XDA. Device manager shows "Android composire interface"
** select RECOVERY but it goes immediately into the white screen aith HTC logo and gets stuck
** select CLEAN STORAGE . When I answer "Yes to Delete all user data?" it confirms "clear..." and then gets stuck on the log screen
** select SIMLOCK and get
FAT32 init OK
Open MCCMNC file fail
Open CID file fail
Has anybody got any other ideas? Should I just give up and use it as paperweight?

Many thanks eddiehk. The RUUs I had tried before came from shippedroms.com too but I cannot find any for the Desire (nor for the Bravo) with 2.3.3 nor WWW in their name. Do you have a specific link? I have just tried yet another one for luck but got the same result as before "battery less then 30%" which is not!:crying:
The PB88IMG.zip method cannot work for me as I cannot get to write to the system nor the sdcard as the phone does not boot up. I have read a bortak's guide, but it seem to be only for S-OFF setups and it also seems to be only for rooted phones. Mine is not rooted and it has S-ON.
Any other ides anybody?

The PB88IMG.zip method cannot work for me as I cannot get to write to the system nor the sdcard as the phone does not boot up. I have read a bortak's guide, but it seem to be only for S-OFF setups and it also seems to be only for rooted phones. Mine is not rooted and it has S-ON.
Any other ides anybody?

I meant "PB99IMG.zip" method sorry. It should and will work. It does not require the phone to be booted up. It only requires you to copy it to the root of the sdcard (use a card reader). Then boot into bootloader (volume down + power), wait a few seconds, then accept. All in the guide
Or search how to downgrade hboot 1.03 in these forums, I've seen it successfully done on a few occasions.

Many thanks again. Unfortunately I got no further. I downloaded the PB99IMG_Bravo_Froyo_HTCCN_CHS_CU_2.35.1402.5_Radio_32.54.00.32U_5.14.05.17_release_163341_signed.zip file from the url you indicated. There were several PB99IMG... and picked one at random. None had the same radio as what was indicated on my Hboot screen by the way. Anyway given the lack of success I suspect it wouldn't have made any difference which one I picked. I then copied it to the root of the sd card using my PC and kept my fingers firmly crossed when I went into bootloader. After a brief moment I saw a subliminal message about checking something but could not read the rest. It then went back to the now very boring Hboot screen with the normal commands "fastboot;recovery;clear storage and simlock".:crying:
Then I tried to use the Universal Android AIO flasher and could see some messages. Trying to flash something in fastboot mode always gave this message:
"(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)"
It does look like something is very screwed up on the internal card and might need a total reformatting. Is it possible or am I barking at the wrong tree?
LATEST UPDATE
OK, I am officially an idiot.
The reason why the .zip file did not work was that I had not changed its name to PB99IMG.ZIP. I did that and hey presto got it to reload the firmware,
As I ended up with a Chinese carrier version I would now like to change it again to a European version preferably a no carrier version. How can I find out which version to pick and which one is the latest version on the ShippedRom site?
In the meantime many many many thanks for all the help. It is so great to have this forum to help all the newbies like me.
@marco_bruzzone
You got a Chinese ROM version because you ignored my advice......
You get the "European version preferably no carrier version" by actually reading my previous post..................
I even quoted the name and location of the correct RUU to use..............

I am sorry for being dim, I reread your earlier posting and finally understood it. I will now try the correct .zip file. Thanks again
