Lighter alt to Lookout? - G2 and Desire Z Themes and Apps

What do you guys use as a lighter alt to Lookout Mobile Security?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using xda premium

LostAndroid, it is available in the market. Have been VERY surprised at how well it works and its features. http://www.androidlost.com/

Hmm interesting. Ill give it a shot. I like to believe that I'm pretty careful with what I install and been wondering if I even need apps like Lookout Mobile Security. I know its not an anti virus app but I'm running PDroid and feel that it's sufficient enough. What do you guys think?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using xda premium

Samugai, this is Brian from Lookout Support. I'm interested to know more about how Lookout is impacting your device. We have a couple folks using G2s and haven't found a particular performance problem.
I'd be happy to discuss it here or if you want to open a support ticket with us ([email protected]) to deal with it that way, that's fine too.
Brian

Hi Brian, sorry for the late response. I was looking to see if there's a lighter app out there similar to Lookout so that i could free up a little more resources if i can. I have been using Lookout for a while now and it's great but I wanted to see if there's a lighter fare to try out.

Will there be a WP7 XDA app?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I heard its in the works
I hope so
The Android version of the XDA App is pretty good and so the WP7 version will probably be even better.
XDA app.
I too would love a xda app to call my own. Make it so xda. If you could follow Metro UI that would be better.
Yeah the Android app is okay, hopefully they make one that works and is stable

The WP7 version of the Tapatalk app is being developed here and should be on the marketplace soon
To provide a branded XDA version for free to the community, the cost is €999
Wonder if XDA management are considering this?
Bumping this app from the grave..
*After searching for this thread before posting my own*
Is there really anything regarding an app for XDA?
I feel like i cant do anything without that xda app on my phone and thats probably the only +1 android has over WP7 right now..
A lot of people seem to be using Board Express from Wp7 if I'm not mistaken, don't know what's happening in regards to a dedicated XDA app though

any news on a xda wp7 app?
Just buy Board Express, IMO.
I'll prolly get it in a couple weeks after all these extra charges from getting and returning phones fall off my damn bill.

Think that's an understatement... Taking 3 seconds just for the "Loading Forum" label to appear after I click the forum is ridiculous... With that being said, it's made a lot of improvements lately, and I've become a fan of it after despising it... I only see it getting better too, the developers seem very dedicated to a quality product.

No need to spend for it. It also has a free version. That's the one I use. Works perfectly fine for my minimal usage needs.

That's true, but it's too limited. If the free version allowed you to use all features with ONE forum, that would make sense, but I guess that would cut into their $999 fees for customization, right? I think that fee is a bit excessive considering TapaTalk is letting them use their forum plug-in to get the app to work (then again, maybe they're paying TapaTalk?).
The XDA App for Android is full featured, just limited to XDA-Developers' forum.

Microsoft's servers are handling Notifications from everywhere else, so I don't see how that would be an issue. I think just the Messenger by Miyowa probably puts more hurt to their servers than this app would due to how many notifications every user gets.
If they need better servers for notifications, buy it with the cash you make from the app.
And hire a dev to fix these performance issues...

Setcpu is free! Legal!

The app that lets you control your overclocking and changing the governors, is free only to xda members. So if your not, get out haha but it is legal read the OP in the link and the DL works just tried it.

I agree with this. I went ahead and purchased it as well to support the dev and to get updates from the market.
The dev let the users/ members of XDA to be free and exclusive. This by no means cheaping out the dev. He wanted us to have it. Hes the one who let us have it for free. He put it on the android market for people who would be using different sites like Android central, droid tech, etc.

Cerberus - Is it worth it?

Right now, I have two phones, and tablet. I have yet to use the free 25 dollars given to use by Google, and I was wondering if the app was worth the license.
Hell yes. It's like $5 lol
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I got it when they had a free sale, I would've happily paid $10 for it, I never worry about my device being lost because of the features in cerberus
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I dunno. It monitors cookies and browsing habits and system logs. Screw that.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
In my opinion, this is probably the single most important android app to install. Also, one license for work for 5 devices. It's absolutely worth the asking price, and much more.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Imo it's absolutely worth it, and it's really a steal at like $2.50 or whatever it comes out to. Yes the permissions and access the app (and therefore the developer) has can be a bit concerning, but from everything I've seen so far it's nothing to worry about and I personally haven't had any issues whatsoever. The developer seems trustworthy and keeps the app updated, including for JB devices. Honestly you'd have to be pretty paranoid to refuse to install such an essential app onto your valuable devices for this type of reason, and if my phone or Nexus gets stolen I'll have the peace of mind knowing the app is installed and ready to do whatever needs to be done to get it back and keep my information from being accessed.
Personally I think its a little overpriced, given the exchange rate. Maybe as and when they have a sale.
I thought the only way to pay for this was via PayPal? Anyway, I agree, this is now the second app I install on the phone / tablet after flashing. The first remains Tasker.

No it doesn't. It asks for these permissions in order to be able to wipe them (without root) if need be.
I have Cerberus and I recommended it to everyone. I do believe that Cerberus does collect info and sell it. They are upfront about this and keep that info anonymous. Who cares if they see how much porn I watch?
Here it is. In the terms of use and privacy policy.

I recommended this app to a friend who had his phone stolen and he's been very happy with it. I haven't bought it myself, but I'm thinking I will very shortly as it's one thing to lose a phone, but another all together to lose my N7.
Avast Antivirus does more and is free... just saying

+1 for Avast
Avast = 4.7 rating = free
Cerberus = 4.6 rating = lunch
It is worth ... I think this is one of the most amazing app for Android. All those features. Great app!
So how good would Cerberus be on the N7 though? Seems like the power lies in it being able to accept SMS commands, right? Since the N7 isn't a phone, would it still be worth it, or am I not understanding how it works?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Good Q... I'm using it, but clearly only works if the N7 is connected to the thief's WiFi so not quite as powerful on a phone I guess..

Definitely better than many galaxy nexus I'm on eco mode as well I'm getting about three hours of on screen time per charge. With it being this fast,I'm not complaining.
For what its worth of you look at the battery stats it looks like android os is killing alot of battery which is an ice cream sandwich bug. Dont know if it actually does kill as much as it states but. it could indicate something isnt allowing the phone to sleep properly. Hoping an os update will squeeze some more juicr outta this thing also hopng itll kill the overheating issue but well see

Sup people, Im Brian D, just got this phone Wednesday. Came from a HTC Evo4G that was way overdue for upgrade. I absolutely love this phone so far. As stated, the only thing that's not excellent, is the camera, which is decent...but far from awesome.
As far as speed, the phone seems like it knows what I'm gonna do before I even do it...it's so fast it's just crazy. I rooted on the first day, tweeked it a lil bit and did a quadrant test just out of curiosity and got this 7736...mind BLOWN! That is unreal, especially when the max I ever got outta my Evo was around 1200.
Also, my battery life has been excellent so far. Don't know what some of you guys are having issues with. On Eco-mode, and with moderate use aka not TRYING to burn my battery, here is where I am now...with battery left to spare. Overall, I'm loving this phone. It was between the Samsung GS3 and this phone for my upgrade and went with this because of future potential. I'm sure the bootloader will be unlocked soon...too many smart people out there are already trying to make it happen. And once it is unlocked...imagine the possibilities with this monsterous piece of hardware!!

I am on the Sprint Employee plan (the wireless advantage club) and I want to get this phone and have an upgrade but it won't let me purchase. They say my account isn't allowed to get it yet. But I see that you guys are actual employees and have it. Did you buy it unlocked or something? Thanks.
I'm Tony from Ohio. I've been a lurker here for a few years now. This is only my second Android smartphone and I absolutely love it. Can't wait to see the bootloader unlocked and a big thanks to everyone working towards it!

To be honest that means somebody on your plan has an outstanding balance or balance that needs to be paid, I had prob 10 people at one point and no one paid there bills on time , some people didn't understand how the program worked and way over spent it was just a nightmare, so now its me and the wife that's it. I got mine through my outside account and then swapped it on to my line NP as I wasn't able to upgrade but it says it is available through swac accounts. Did the person that your under order it for you or send you the swac link to shop or are you just trying to upgrade on sprint.com ?

Hm, well I do have an outstanding balance for my monthly bill due on the 27th that I was going to pay this weekend. I found out today that the Employee I'm under has to order it for me so he's going to check soon. I have an upgrade, so if I pay my bill will he be able to order it for me? Some people say employees can't get it yet.
My whole story: Ordered HTC Evo 4G LTE on Nov 2. Got it a week after (hit by Sandy :/). Sense is slow and buggy and I love the hardware, hating the software. But since I still was in 14 days and I really really wanted this phone, decided to cancel. Waiting for my return kit for this phone but I need a phone to hold me over when that comes since no one would let me order the Optimus G. So basically, I have the EVO now, and I'm waiting till the G is available. I'll be returning this EVO by Thanksgiving so I really wanted the G by then. If not, I may be phoneless for a couple days since I have no previous Sprint phone as this is my first time with them. Ah well.
I appreciate the insight.
Yea even tho its a lil cheaper advantage lines become a pain in the butt , its easier and almost as cheap to just send friends a link to the referral program

Cerberus...Is it worth buying

Hello people
I was looking for an anti-theft app and did some research and found out that Cerburus is a pretty decent app. Is it worth buying..??
I have installed it and will try the features provided by it. but are there any other app which provide similar feature and is free...??
I know i should just go ahead and buy it but its like 2.99$ which is 200 bucks in my currency. So just wanted to get a clear picture before buying
Thanks
I bought it awhile ago and I think it has been pretty useful. There are some apps that will do some of what it will for free though.

I paid for Cerberus more than a year ago and I love it. It's genius.
Just got my Nexus 4 back, JUST because i had a number and simcard-id, which cerberus sent me after i was drunk enough to lose it/forget it.
400€ more or less is a big difference, so i'll say cerberus is worth every cent.
Can anyone tell me what it does better than a free one like lookout?

Personally, I think it's better (for me) than Lookout because I don't yet believe in anti-virus software for mobile devices. Any of them. It will be needed eventually, probably, but right now, to me it's just wasted CPU cycles and wasted memory blocks.
Cerberus is just what I need. And it does it well. Installed it for the rest of my family too! All paid for. And I'd pay again!
