ROM Flashing question - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

do i lose the sim unlock when i flash a room into the xperia play?

No. You don't lose sim unlock. Make sure you do a back up in CWM before you do anything though.

a backup for what, just in case the flashing doesn't go well or something about the sim?

In case something doesn't go well. As far as I know, flashing a rom doesn't affect the sim card and bootloader.

How to Unlock SGH-T989 with Unlock Code?

Hi guys, I got my unlock code from Telus, and am trying to unlock my T989. The phone is rooted and running AOKP-M6. The instructions say to simply insert a non-telus Sim and turn on the phone, it should then ask for the unlock code...
I did this, and its not asking me to insert the unlock code.
Do I need to restore back to stock/unroot?
I dont have the stock Nandroid, can I use any other stock rom?
Thanks!

No you dont have to do anything to your phone...i never unrooted or returnck to unlock a phone...it "should" like they said as soon as your phone turns on with a different sim it should ask to enter a code.
If you can try a different sim.
Did you buy your phone from a private seller or did you get it from tellus?
I bought it from Telus 8 months ago, I'm giving to my sister who's on Fido.
I inserted her sim and its not asking me anytihng...just says that its not connected to the network.
I just dled the Stock ICS Rom...maybe its the AOKP thats not making it work?

I just dled a Stock Telus ICS Rom and its installing now...hopefully it'll work!
I'll reply in 10 lol
It Worked!!
Thanks a lot guys
To anyone trying to unlock on AOKP, you need to first restore to a STOCK ROM

[Q] Sim Don't Work With Custom Roms

I purchased an experia play r800at and it came already sim unlocked. I decided I wanted to go further so I use the paid method to have my bootloader unlocked as well. After all is said and done I install a custom rom and my phone does not recognize my sim card as if it's not even there. I tried a few different custom roms and they all did the same thing. When I go back to stock rom though I have no issues at all. I had also purchased a r800i white phone, but with my white phone I went through sony's way to unlock the bootloader instead of the unofficial way I used with my blue one. I now can do what ever I want with the r800i without any problems, but am still stuck with using the stock rom with my r800at. Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix this? The white phone is only a 2G phone so I gave it to someone else to use cause the blue one is 4G and I need that more. I would really like to install an ICS rom on my r800at so if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them and try them out. Thanks:cyclops:
So you want to install a ICS official and you have the bootloader locked?
Yes you are sim unlocked. BUT you need to have your bootloader unlocked as well. They are both clearly 2 different things. In order for you to intall customs rom your bootloader needs to be unlocked not sim.

[Q] Is it possible S3 SIM re-lock itself?

HI,
I rooted an 747M on 4.3, install a 4.3 rom and sim unlock the phone with cellunlocker.net. It worked, other sim worked.
Then, I want to roll back to the stock 4.3 from nandroid backup. =bootloop.
reflash recovery and screw it, get my custom rom back from the second nandroid backup.
It worked. BUT I DIDNT test the phone with an other SIM...
I sent the phone ti my bro in other country and he said that the phone is locked.
I thought that SIM unlock is for ever , no?
thank you
I'm surprised because I didn't think the phone could re-lock.
Is the owner being prompted for a network unlock code or a sim unlock code?

Unlock phone, sim, root, odin, flash cwm, flash twrp, use your "unique key", wtf?

Excuse me. I do this a couple times every year or so and I'm still confused as to what's going on? And why do I have to keep doing it? I just got a new AIO sim card and it requires some code to unlock. Does that mean my phone unrooted itself when I flashed the latest stock rom in here, which btw finally a fully functional ROM, go figure... And what's the difference between using odin and this code sequence from the dialer method I found somewhere where you punch in a long *#blablabla# code which puts you in the matrix where you do a little dance here and there then viola your sim is unlocked? Anyway, if these are all unrelated, what is this unlocking my sim business and when the heck does rooting actually occur within the maze of steps Odin takes you. And why all this after I flashed the stock rom? It's supposed to retain your rooted state still no?

So let me see if I understand your statement. You flashed another ROM... and then got a new SIM for your phone, but when you turned it on it will ask you for an unlock code? Rooting and unlocking are two different things, you can be rooted and not unlocked... so what you need to do is follow the unlocking method. Or... I don't seem to understand what you mean, can you be a little more specific?
Sorry. It's confusing. I'm stuck at the sim unlocking part, where you can put in a code from the dialer as shown here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024514
Unless you know your unique code to unlock your sim whatever that means. So I should still be rooted but now somehow still locked or something? Or is it just the sim that is locked? I'm fine with my old tmobile sim/account in place as in as I'm writing this, but as soon as I pop in my aio sim, back to that thread but id need to install uvle1 but b4 I do all that I just want to know what and why I am doing. Should I continue? What exactly will I be doing? Thanks

Sounds like right now your phone is carrier-locked; i.e. your phone will not work with a sim card for a network other than T-mobile's. Rooting will not unlock your phone for use with another carrier's sim card, however, the instructions in the thread you linked in your post will. If you really want to use that AIO sim card without paying for an unlock code from T-mobile or some other source, then the instructions in that thread are probably the best way to make it work. UVLE1 identifies particular modem/radio firmware and stock ROM that needs to be installed on the T989 in order to have access to the menu items required for the unlocking process. You can switch to the most recent radio or any ROM of your choice afterward without losing the ability of an unlocked phone.
My friend, you have a lot of studying to do....I'm sorry, but you seem awfully confused. No insults intended.
Please read all the stickies and then some.... before you attempt anything on your device. Very bad things can happen if you don't understand what you are doing and exactly how to do it.
Good luck!

Okay in up to speed now on all this. I've known this stuff at different points in my PDA phone assisted life but due to my own RAM deficiency i easily forget this stuff. Especially since I only learn it over a few days of the year.
Anyway, I forgot I never unlocked my phone because I never even needed to till now. My phone had always been rooted as I've been swapping ROMs for a while now. Well I'll go work on that solution now. Thanks for the replies

Network Unlock on a D852

Hey there,
I am having some issues with unlocking my D852. The phone is locked to Rogers, and I'm trying to get it over to Telus. I'm in the stock ROM, with the Telus Sim card in it, everything appears to go smoothly after I enter the unlock code. To verify I go into 2945#*852# and check all the menus, the phone is not personalized, and I'm successfully connected to the Telus network. Afterwards I try to restore from a backup, CloudySix, the phone boots. In the status bar its saying that my SIM Card is Perso Locked, and is prompting me for a SIM Network Unlock PIN. I tried entering a few codes, NCK and SIMCK without any luck. I dont want to enter any more codes in case I lock myself out completely.
I have unlocked before, its been a few years, but I have never run into this. Shouldn't the phone be unlocked permanently, no matter what ROM you flash. Maybe I have to flash a new ROM from scratch? I tried restoring CandySIX CM13 edition and the new AOSP based so far.
***EDIT: I forgot to mention, I reverted back to stock, and I get a prompt for the unlock code again.
I just got a Galaxy S6 from Telus and I'm really not happy with it, it feels like a downgrade to me. Hoping you guys can help me out
When you restore your backup are you restoring the EFS partition as well? I think that is where the unlock is stored (at least that's how it is on some phones).

Yeah, I was doing a full restore, EFS and Modem. I tried flashing a ROM from scratch just now and that worked for me. The only problem after that was that my WIFI wasn't working afterwards. I might have to continue messing around with it, making progress though!
Thanks for the help

Got it all up and running, after an hour of troubleshooting I discovered that the WIFI wasn't working because the AP needed a reboot lol. Through all this though, I discovered the importance of the EFS partition, it stores alot more than your unlock data, its best not to touch it
How were you able to unlock the network sim.
