Just bought NOVA 2 on Google Play for its promo of $0.49 which is very good. Now the game recognizes in its control options that its a XP design. The Dpad and buttons work.. however the analog sticks arent working and the only way I can move the view camera around is by the touch screen, seems odd. I know the analog sticks work since minecraft and onlive use it fine. (Granted.. those analog sticks I am still not impressed with) but yea, just wondering is this one of those fail XP optimized games by gameloft?
If you read the comments, many people complain that the PLAY controls don't work correctly. One of them said they contacted Gameloft and got a working copy. I have to say though, Nova 2's touchpad controls sucked even when they did work :/
Yea.. so far havent been impressed with its analog control. I mean its still a nice gamepad tho. But yea, not like $0.49 kills me hehe, since I can use on my tablet too.
The version I got from their WAP shop works fine (albeit the controls aren't great but functional). The google market version doesn't work on the R800x (which I have) for some dumb reason. I would contact gameloft they will likely send you their WAP shop version for free and that will probably work fine.
well that's really odd.. because, remember that time when Gameloft went on sale for $0.99 on the now defunct ANDROID MARKET? I bought NOVA2 that time, and the version they gave me supports the entire gamepad of the Xperia PLAY.. i suggest you put up a complain...
PS: Shadowgun is really short, even with the expansion blah blah
They worked fine for me. Did you make sure you had the control pad open before you started the game?
Sent from my R800a using Tapatalk
whether it's closed or open prior or during the game is opened, it worked fine

Im quite a big playstation fan and seeing new things like Onlive and the playstation suite which is upcoming I was looking to get me a xperia play and was wondering whether you would reccomend me to get one.
What is the phone like? is the gaming any good?
Battery any good and if theres any bad points could you please tell me.
Thank you
If you are actually serious about being able to play games properly on your phone, then buy the play, its honestly that simple, ...you could buy a slider keyboard for emulators, but then what about consoles with shoulder buttons, what about n64 that requires the an analog stick? what about all those fantastic games on the market that support hard keys for the play and not other slider keyboard phones?
the play makes a pretty decent phone, however i would recommend you root the phone to bypass the internal storage memory limit which is quite handicapped.
Apart from not being the hottest hardware available, the xplay is decent in pretty much every respect, and it excels at games. the battery life is usually quite good, you should easily be able to get a day out of it including a couple of hours of gaming. If thinness isnt an issue you can get an extended battery to really give you some serious runtime.
also remember your not limited to ps1, or n64 as a mentioned above, you have virtually every console up to the n64 as well, and most of them play amazingly.
Do you get any lag in any games like GTA 3 or any ps1 roms etc?
theres a tiny amount of lag in gta3 when theres lots of stuff onscreen when my phone is overclocked to 1.5ghz, gta3 is optimized for dual core, its probably the only game which is actually a bit slower on the play that i have found.
however it works with hw controls for the most part and is more than playable.
ps1 roms usually dont have any lag, although certain roms may, i cant remember playing any that had lag recently. FPSE has had very good dev support and has come a long way since i first downloaded it, it usually runs everything flawlessly.
If you want a portable device dedicated for gaming , id suggest you get psp or psp vita...

Just a question that came up in rom threads. To get more insight into things. How many of use really use the xperia play for its gaming ability. Meaning, you REALLY want the gamepad used correctly. Some people use just the touch screen more and dont care about the gamepad as much. So just thought I would make a poll for devs to use later to get insight on how people use their xperia.
The gamepad is the only reason I chose this phone over the other Android phones offered by Verizon. And so far, it hasn't let me down. Of course, I'm a retro gamer, I couldn't really care less about the touchpads.
I use it often. At the mo playing Zelda on the Gameboy Advance emulator and loving it
brought to you by the XDA app on my badass Android toy
I use it for every emulator , every game. The gamepad is the sole purpose of buying this phone.
Yea I am all about the emulators myself. However I think the issue comes up on non stock roms with android based games that "optimize for xperia play" and how some roms may not work right on a gamepad. I just know I love the gamepad. Too bad GTA3 isnt working right.
YES... i had been hunting down this phone since i heard rumors of it, 2 years before its release, so i started to save up cash, i waited a while for it to drop price, when i finally had enough money , i got the white one, because everyone here would have the black one, anyways as soon as i got the phone the works, Boot loader on locking, Rooting, Custom Rom, Emulators/ROMS, im an old school gamer, so all the Pokemons, all the Marios, etc etc.
What i loved about the phone is that my younger brother got a Iphone 3gs and he did not wanted to buy the Xperia Play because " it looks so cheap" and to be honest it does, it took him 30 seconds of playing my Play to Regret getting the Iphone 3gs, as like me he is also a hardcore gamer.
So Gaming pad.. hell Freaking yeah... its the only thing i can bark at work,"hey my phone has this much processor","mine has this much screen", etc then i go "well how many of you have gaming buttons?" and i just laugh.
My last two phones I had purchased the GameGripper for both. Bit when I saw the xplay I jumped for it and haven't looked back. Now version where the hell is the info on the ics update?

The gamepad is great for playing fighting games
The gamepad is one mayor thing that brought me to buy the phone.
As I consider myself a hardcore and casually retro gamer.
Many other reasons:
Decent screen size
Incredibly loud stereo speakers
Supports epileptic led mode (32hz/2000bpm)
Autofocus camera
Awesome processor and GPU (overclockeable to 2GHz!!!1!11one)
512 MBs of RAM
Easy rooting and bootloader unlocking
Comes with the best OS in the world
Built-in integration with Facebook
Some drawbacks:
SEMC skin kinda sucks compared to cooler ones
Comes with lots of bloatware
Brightness is NULL in the outsides of a sunny day
Battery does not last more than three days under default settings
SEMC launcher only has 5 homescreen slots
Built-in theme chooser doesn't do much
Front camera only works in outsides and is a 1.3 MP one
But overall, much better phone than any of those I have found people using on the streets (at least in my country).
I mainly use the phone with Onlive. Ever since it got support I've been wasting my money on games my computer can handle, but it's on my phone <3.
Emulators work rather well, it's just say I'm playing Majora's Mask I have to keep the virtual keys on screen for the c-buttons due to lack of mapping.
I just don't use the touchpads

Thats the whole bloody reason why I got the Xperia Play because of the gamepad !
It stands out from the crowd.
Just cannot wait for ICS on the Xperia Play !
Anybody else excited ?

ICS is good but miui is better in my opinion.. I still use the gamepad just don't play any games that use touch pads

I use my Xperia Play only as a gaming device. I don't use it as a phone (no sim card). I got it used super cheap. Onlive, FPse, etc.

of course...bought it because of the game pad..i have a lot of time to play games...even at work...
i don't use the touchpad because i haven't game where i need it (only in mupen64 i need them, but i'm not an hardcore player)
Do some of you still use a BT Gamepad on your XP? Was thinking of getting the onlive universal gamepad. Still having a full set of trigger buttons would be nice.
I thougt the game pad was cool but i actully don't use it so much and actully have another android phone.
That's the main reason I got it and it's great for my retro gaming needs. I use emulators mainly and only use the pads when I need to, like with Mupen64.
I can say I'm a little disappointed in the r800x model (stupid Verizon). My parents still pay my phone bill so I can't complain too much.
I'm moving to Canada this summer and I plan on getting one from whatever carrier I end up with (not CDMA though, I'm done with that mess). They are free with most contracts which makes it even tastier.
BTW any recommendations for cell carriers in Canada? PM me
I'm mobile.. and I'm a gamer.. so, I bought Xplay because it's a Gaming Mobile Phone which had "gamepad" on it..
If I don't use the gamepad, I would prefer Arc S or Ray than this..
Anybody notice that N64oid runs slightly laggy on the One X? It was smoother on my Desire HD
I'm playing Zelda on my phone, and its running very smooth.
Don't get me wrong the games work pretty much full speed but every few seconds the game will jerk and slowdown slightly, I've noticed this on both Mario 64 and Goldeneye. I shall have to try some other games too
I can confirm that games such as Mario Kart and Mario 64 have slight lag spikes, but I really have no other material to compare this to. So I can't say if performance is worse or better than, say, an SII.
Ah that's ok, I thought it was me. Must be a Tegra 3 thing, hopefully they'll fix it soon enough. Both Mario games were fine on my old Desire HD. Ah well at least the emulator works haha

I suspect the emulator isn't even multi-threaded, so there is a big room for improvement.
I hope the developer implements it, Goldeneye would be perfect with a slight speed increase
Cheers for testing anyway guys, I'm glad it wasn't just me
I don't know what you were running on your DHD, but when I had the Galaxy Nexus it would do the same thing, so I'm thinking it might have something to do with ICS. Then again, if you're playing in full screen mode and such, there are many more pixels to push when emulating as well.
Same little lags here. Strange because it ran perfectly smoothly on my Prime on ICS (video demo at my youtube channel). Runs worse than the SGSII or Galaxy Note.
On my DHD I was running virtuous affinity (gingerbread)
I am guessing its caused either by ICS or the emu being optimized for single core (most likely)

Can I ask you guys how you connect to play you N64oids? Virtual keys i guess some use but there must be a way to connect via USB or bluetooth, imagine having all that set-up via Media Link HD
Thats one thing I wanna do, play Zelda on my screen with a remote via the HTC on the TV
I use the touchscreen personally, it works ok I guess. I believe you can get a bluetooth game controller for android though or use a Wii remote

Cool, reason I ask is because it would be really cool to play N64oid and use a remote via Bluetooth or USB OTG while having Media Link connected to a nice HD TV
Its the games themselves which cause the issue remember emulation is not always 100 %
U can grab a ps3 controller and use that

I haven't had any problems with n64oid except one rom I downloaded.

must be the screen resolution which is around double that of the desire.
Sorry to break it to you guys, but I'm pretty sure it's the phone. I'm using the exact same ROMs, which run perfectly on my Prime, and my Note. That suggests it is neither the ROMs, nor the resolution. A bit baffling considering the hardware in the Prime is near identical. Others are noticing gaming performance doesn't appear to be living up to expectations, so makes me think it is something in HTCs implementation (I recall similar problems with the Sensation at release).
In relation to the gaming setup you're talking about above, it's sweet - here are some demos of me running a similar setup with other devices:
Probably ICS, many apps need configuring.
If you experience some annoying hiccups during emulation, just go to engine settings and set the maximum frame skip to 0, it's 3 by default.
I've been using the Moga Pro controller on my Galaxy S4 for a few weeks now, and have fallen in love with it. Especially for shooters such as N.O.V.A 3 and Modern Combat. I picked up my N7 2 on Friday and also have fallen in love with it!
I downloaded N.O.V.A and Shadowgun, and the Moga Pivot app. I go through the setup, everything pairs correctly and seems to work fine. However, after it asks me to download my "free version of Pac-man," I will click no, and it will hang on a black screen. It says in the notification bar that it is connected however. Usually it takes me to the Moga Pivot application main screen where I can see all of the compatible games. I tried running N.O.V.A. and the game seems to not recognize that the controller is attached; I think it has to do with the application hanging up. It is only allowing me the use the touch controls.
I emailed the develops of Moga, and haven't heard anything back yet. I was wondering if anyone else has this controller or has maybe heard of this issue.
I know there will always be hiccups with new devices, and that's all fine and dandy - I'm sure it'll get straightened out soon.
Thanks!
Everything working for me. Tested with Wild Blood. Using the compact controller.

I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere, so I apologize. But I figured out how to get N64oid on my Amazon Fire TV a few days ago and got a couple ROMs. Pretty stoked. I have an old original Nintendo 64 Controller AND a USB converter for it that I used to use when I had an emulator on my old Sony laptop. I've got all the buttons mapped great to the N64 controller EXCEPT the stinkin' analog stick. It doesn't register to run, it's like I cant push it hard enough to any side to get it to move. For example, in Super Mario 64, I have a really hard time doing the long jump because Mario won't do anything but a medium walk.
Is there any way to fix this? Am I doing something wrong mapping the buttons? I can't find anywhere else online in forums of someone actually using an N64 controller with a USB converter to play, everyone else is using XBOX controllers or PS3 or something else.
Thanks, for any input everyone!
I wish that N64oid would have been completed so it could run games without randomly soft freezing after a short time.
My best results are with CoolN64.
I recently found out that changing the flicker reduction method can also affect the graphics in a positive way.
I switched to the Q-method which makes most of the graphics display properly such as Super Smash Bros. having perfect graphics using Glide.
N64 controllers are notoriously known for the way their sticks stop working over the years. Is the stick very loose and does it move a lot when you shake the controller? If so you may just be out of luck and may need a different controller
I recommend a Gamecube controller if you can find a joystick adapter for it.
I USED to have a 3 in 1 style adapter with two USB slots built-in that I randomly found at Wal-Mart a long time ago,but lost it and all of my controllers for a BS reason.

I believe it worked well with the actual N64 that I used last year... It could be the stick though, I'll try another one. If not, is there a better N64 emulator I should try?
I downloaded the ROMs through XBMC Free ROMs program, and got N64oid sideloaded through ADB on my Mac. I'm pretty new to all of this though, as you can see this is my second post ever on XDA.
Mupen64 Plus AE is the standard one,but has not been updated in quite a while since the 2.4.4 version.
There is the normal free version, and a donation version just for kindly supporting the devs.
There is a dedicated forum for this one.
CoolN64 is the fastest and smoothest one yet,and it has been getting more updates lately.
