Battery life seems to be deteriorating.. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I am on phantom hackers blazer rom 4.0 with the fb15 modem and when I first flashed I was getting a good 40 hours under moderate to heavy use now it seems like I struggle to make it through a whole day on one charge. What could be causing this deterioration? Seems like my idle battery use especially has gotten allot worse. I used to lose less than 1 %per hour now I seem to be losing around 4-5% per hour.

Probably the modem. Go back to the old one If you were getting good battery life with it.

Well thats the reason i switched to fb15 from el29 is because i was getting horrible battery life on el29. Fb15 was good to me for a good while. Just for some reason the last couple days the battery life seems to be deteriorating. Should i try wiping battery stats?

I've been experiencing this with all the new ICS builds.

Have you been in areas with bad reception lately? Maybe it's this or you just need to try different modems. Try the latest FC one

YES! Honestly I did not even think of that! In my house I am always getting 2 bars or less and sometimes I am even in roaming. I dont know about trying the new ICS modems though I have heard allot of reports of them making peoples phones really hot.

I struggled with the same problem, I moved into the lower level of my house and my battery life seemed to almost be cut in half. I usually get 1-2 bars down there vs. 4 upstairs. Now I know what the problem was. Thanks!

[Q] Best modem for EH17?

I know there's not really any answer, but anyone know what the best modem is for battery life on the Hurricane ROM? I've tried EG22 and EH17, and both really suck. I've heard that EC05 is good, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?
modem rarely seems to impact my battery, it's all about the rom/kernel/config..
For me, EH17 has increased my data speeds and my reception. I now get 4G where I didn't with any modem after EB13, 1 more bar on 3G and faster speeds over WiFi.
GPS is the about same as all other leaked GB modems, but slightly less accurate than EH06; I'd get as close as 3m with EH06 but 6m with EH17. Sitting in the same spot.
On a suggestion I tried the EE03 modem on EH17 to stop the random reboots but still get 1 a day at home on WIFI. I do get 5 out of 9 satellite lock with this though. None seem to affect my battery life. Battery life will be affected by modem if you are primarily in a low signal area. Then you would have to try each one to see if any give you better signal and don't make the phone hot when losing signal. Heat is an indication of battery drain.
Alright, thanks guys. I just knew it was my modem that was causing some things because I was on the EG22 one, and battery life sucked. Then when I had EH17, I could see it was draining the battery even more.
Strangely, though, the EH17 modem now seems to be really good. In my house, I'm getting 4-5 bars where I usually get 2 and no time without signal. I've had it on its charger though so I'm not sure if the battery will be any better, but I'd assume it would be.
Thanks for the help everyone!
edit: okay, so when I leave the phone alone it has good signal. Then I use it for something and it goes to none or 2 back and forth. wtf?

I have seen this also; it doesn't seem to effect the performance any, at least that I have seen.
I hope EI05 is better; EH17 modem seems better but the ROM reboots way more (for me anyway) I'm back on EG22 w/EH17 modem.

Yeah, I do too. I'm not going back to EG22 so I'll just live with it.
I think I found w00t with the ERA FatFree, no reboots and I'm using the EH17 modem.
I get much better signal since eh17. Ec05 was dropping my bars constantly.

EH 17 sux for wimax
The EC05 out performs EH17 in the wimax arena. Ifn I were able to get my head in the codez I would look into why that is.
I was able to hold a steady weak connection with ec05. When I tried the eh17 on RAE hurricane 1.6 it would never hold a connection in a weak area.

Weird battery readings

Hey guys, so I'm having some odd battery readings depending on what ROM I have installed... For the record my battery life sucks horribly but that's not the point of this. The point is that, on AOSP ROMs such as CM7 and MIUI (not sure if that's considered AOSP but it's not sense which is the main thing..) I have cell stand-by using a ton of my battery, like 50+%, whereas on sense ROMs I have display using like 70+% of battery.. does anyone know if there's a reason for that or if it's just messed up readings or something? Thanks in advanced!
If you're not using the phone, meaning screan is off, cell standby will use the majority of your battery. Whereas if the screen is on because the device is in use, the display will require the most battery. So... are you sure your user habits aren't to account for these differences?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
quite sure, the battery drops at pretty much the same speeds for both, and also i've tried having 3G off for AOSP ROMs all day and even maxed out display settings to try to get it up (just to see what's going on of course) and with the Sense ROMs I have display settings super low :S
That is some strange behavior. All I can say is battery consumption and lag seem to be the primary reasons many users stick to "senseless" ROMs. But you likely know this already...

Haha yeaaaa.... Though the new affinity ROM is super smooth! As smooth as many senseless ROMs! But then there's the battery haha, which is why I ordered a new one I've always had disgustingly bad battery life (max 8 hours on super battery saving ROMs with undervolting) so I'm hoping I've just always had a bad battery and the new one will be good and of larger capacity... And maybe that's why my readings are so wrong? ROM is confused as to where all the juice is going/has gone so it just throws the data somewhere? Just a guess haha
Its been discussed on here before that Sense ROMs just report the battery usage differently than AOSP. Its normal, and I would disregard. As long as you are getting decent battery life on the ROMs, the battery usage details don't really matter.

problem is that I'm not but I'm gonna wait until I get a new battery and see if that's better before going further into figuring out what's going on.. Thanks for that info though!
Did the short battery life come on recently? Bad battery is certainly a possibility. But can also be some sort of network issue. If you local tower is having problems, it can drain your battery fast, particularly if they are doing something to 3G, and your phone is constantly searching for a 3G signal or from 2G/3G. Notice any data reception issues?

Rarely any reception issues, I think it might be a bad battery as ever since stock I'd last maybe max 8 hours with medium-light use. Just never knew that that wasn't good until recently haha

Getting bad battery life on Sprint Galaxy nexus? Try this.

This is far from scientific, but it's been noticeable enough over the course of the last 4 days that I felt like sharing.
I was getting terrible battery life. Also my phone got really hot when I used any amount of 3G. About a week ago I was messing with the mobile operator settings and set the phone to LTE/CDMA mode, and accidentally left it that way even though we still have no 4G here in Boston.
I immediately noticed all these problems were gone. After a day I went back to CDMA only and guess what? Phone became a george foreman grill again, and battery life tanked.
I am one of those skeptical guys that don't think that kind of voodoo usually helps. But it did. And yes I know the constant LTE scanning would supposedly drain more battery, but try it, for some reason.. It actually has the opposite effect. It'd be great if more people tried this and reported back.
I'm going to have to try this. Every once and while battery drains at a mad pace and heats up!
Trying it now and reporting back tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip. I'm south of Boston and can get wimax in north weymouth, braintree, etc and have been really struggling for the past 12 days about whether or not to go back to the e4gt.

Have a few questions :)

I might be buying one of these bad boys. And i have a couple of questions.
1. How is the GPS on this device? Does it lock on pretty quick? Also im talking about stock, not with any tweaks or anything added.
2. How about signal? Does it get good signal? Like if T-Mobiles map says it has excelent 3g coverage will i get that inside a building?
3. Hows the camera? I heard it was the best and looking at pics taken from it it looks pretty spectacular. But nothing speaks more then users opinions
EDIT: missed one 4. Under moderate use, texting throughout the day, hows the battery life? Also hows it with heavy use?
Thanks guys for your time!
Battery sucks with any use, GPS locks on pretty quick(15 sec or so)
The camera is great, by far the best I have seen on a cell phone and just as good as our point and shoot.
I always have good signal on T-Mobile

Thanks! I figured battery life wouldnt be too good considering its using the Super Amoled + display. I was planning on buying an extended battery anyhow. About how long does it last? Like from what time do you unplug it till it reaches zero?
I personally believe the battery to be fairly standard, but definitely not horrible. I keep my display brightness at probably 75% and it lasts me ALL day and usually needs charging at around 10. Definitely manageable, and this is heavy to moderate use; ALOT of texting, maybe 30 minutes of gameplay, live wallpaper, wifi on for about half the time, AND this is on AOKP ICS ROM so battery life would be considerably better on a stock ROM or even one that allows under-clocking. Hope this helped!
Honestly I think battery on life on stock is great well at least for me....with modetate to heavy use...that including alot of Web browsing, text, calls....it last me a good solid 12 hrs. best battery life I've had on any smart phone I've owned. This phone is just amazing in every aspect the only phone I think that is better than this is the HTC one X. obviously using GPS and stuff is going to drain it more so it depends on how u use it..

The GPS on this phone has never failed me.
As far as signal. If its good near you then you will be fine. I get 4G in my apartment and do over 20 mbps dl speeds inside.
I think the Camera is better than my wifes Sensation..
I am a moderate to heavy user. I mean Texts, Calls maybe a game lots of web with usually over 2.5 hours of screen on time and on stock I was doing 13 or 14 hours..
Rooted, under clocked, and undervolted I have went over 20 hours.

Thats impressive! 20 hours! Woah! thanks for that i'll def consider making a profile in setCPU or tasker or even make my own apk which will under clock and undervolt when i want it
I have a second question though, what is the difference between the Samsung Galaxy S II (T-Mobile SGH-T989) and the Samsung Galaxy S II X (SGH-T989D)

LG8 Issues Anyone?

I just got upgraded to LG8 (finally), and while I am experiencing faster data speeds (usually 3x faster than previously), I have some other issues.
1) Music Hub doesn't work, unlike what the log says on sprint.com
and
2) Battery life is terrible!! It drops 6% battery life in one hour, completely idle!
Is anyone else having similar issues? I called Sprint, and they said that they have never heard of either of these issues for the GSIII and told me to take it to a Sprint Store (conveniently, it is $35). Anyone that has issues with the LG8 update needs to call Sprint. That way that can't simply tell us that there is no solution and that no one else is reporting an issue.
I am unrooted and completely stock.
Yes, I did notice after LG8 my battery life was worse... and the phone was a lot more laggy...
I live in Central Jersey and My 3G speeds have always been garbage so I havent notice anything with that.
It seems like everyone has different results with the different radios. If you don't have a good signal in your area, then the two lg radios can drain more battery. If you need more battery life then you could try going back to lfn.

Everyone has different results with radios because everyone attributes everything to the latest thing they installed. Further, almost no one is willing to do any kind of even remotely scientific testing. They just use the phone, check it, science.
Which is why everytime anything is released, you get this huge range of things that, in most cases, can't even occur.
I flashed and had trouble with all 4 radios, lg8 seems imo, to be the most stable, less loss of data connection to my Airvana for sure.
