Wifi Data flow cuts off - Defy General

So ive been using Miui for the Defy for few months now and ive noticed that at my parents house the Wifi works fine...but when i come home it connects to Wifi nand works but only for a few seconds and then stops doing anything...for example stops at around 3% in a download.....and no more Data passes through or cant surf net or anything.....but it still says im connected to the wifi. have to then switch of Wifi and turn it back on...or just use 3g...my girlfriends ZTE Blade connects to Wifi fine here and has no problem downloading and it never cuts off...

is this the problem that i have?
chromloop.com/2011/09/how-to-solve-the-motorola-defy-me525-wifi-problem-wifi-connected-but-no-internet-access
i dont want to change anything that i dont need to...
besides...it wont let me edit tiwlan.ini because its read only...
EDIT: ok i figured out i had to mount the file first...
so ive changed it from 1 to 0 and rebooting...so lets see if it did anything...
EDIT2: well that didnt change anything...just tried downloading something and it got to 2.67% and stopped again...wifi stopped working...still connected but nothing s working
EDIT: fixed
installed cyanogenmod 9

Desire Wireless Problems

As the title suggests, I am not having much luck with the wireless.
I turn it on, but it does not see any wireless INTERNET in the area at all. This was working fine a few days ago, but have only noticed it now.
Have tried a factory reset and cleared the SD card to no avail.
Cheers for any help
Grady
reset the password on the wireless (can be the same password as ur old one) but it will cause ur network to go down for a bit, and come back up and when its coming back up, ur phone will report it as avalible, and u can access it again, i have noticed this my self. and found it extremely annoying, it seem to be appearing when turning off the wifi on the phone and then turning it on again, after that the phone wont be able to reconnect to any rememebered device(even if u choose to forget it)
Can u please try this, and report back here if its working or not.
incase it is, it might be a issue with the 2.1 for the desire, and should be reported back to android devs.
Thanks for the reply, but Im afraid no cigar.
Reset the router, changed the password and the desire is still not picking up any wireless networks around me even though my Nexus one is.
Pain in the grass as I was to sell my HTC desire today, but if the wireless isnt working thats a deal breaker.
download the free app wifi analyzer and have a look if that one can spot any wifi broadcasts in your area,
Downloaded and it cant seem to find anything at all?
Does this mean somehow my wifi has broken?
Funny thing this because my desire has just done this today.
I went in to my router and disabled the security. I deleted the key on the phone and the phone found the network and connected OK. Went back into the router and re enabled security and rebooted the router. The phone then found the network and asked for the key. Entered the key and all good connecting now.
I've been having the same problem for quite some time now..., send it back to repair came back after a month...,, did it the first time i used my phone. disconected it for battery saving.... and when i turned it back on again it didnt found any wireless connection...
I'm lost... dont really know what to do next....,,, I'll try this method when i get home today....,, hope it works... but does that mean u have to do this everytime you want to use your wifi?:S:S

Are you using stock android or a custom ROM. I seem to remember some custom ROMS having issues with wireless networks on certain channels.
Try changing the channel of your wireless router.

[Q] 4G problem?

I am able to connect to 4G when first booting the EVO (which is running CM7 RC2 by the way) using the built in tethering options which work just fine I am able to connect and stay connected for about an hour or sometimes more but other times I have lost connection and it will not reconnect. In the WiMAX settings it shows
Scanning...
Connecting...
Connected (if working otherwise after the Connecting status it'll show nothing and stay that way.)
Anyone else have this problem or have found a way to fix this? I have found that only by rebooting the phone that it works again.
it not reconnecting is a cm7 bug. either reboot or run a terminal command (which i am forgetting) its something like killall dhcpip
thanks for the info
I have the same problem. For some reason the phone seems to hang between 3G and 4G.
Reboot works, but I am not sure if this is a dhcp issue or another event causes it. It could even be heat related since I often get this during usb tether and the phone may be on the warm side. Google tether seemed to have a temp monitor but the cm7 thether does not. Is there a good temp app to check if this is the case?
4G hang shots.
I have no idea why things like youtube or voice search show up from time to time
I am not sure what to make of the overwhelming response

WiFi Connected but no Internet Access

My WiFi eventually stops working. It's been working fine for two months but for these last two weeks, it would not connect to any wifi network, regardless if it were home, someone else's home, or even the wifi at my school.
If it helps any, I'm running juggernaut 4.1 with bullet kernel.
I've looked around to the related threads but there was never a solid fix. Anyone have any insight on my problem?
bump? Any help?
Well if a clean instal doesnt fix it your phone probably needs replacing

It works like 75% of the time. It works when I reset it sometimes. It's not a "never works" type of thing. Do I still really need to replace my phone?
I have a smiliar problem, Once I disconnect from Wi-Fi and then try to connect to any network, it would say it's connected with full signal strength yet there would be no connection...
Not exactly sure if that's the problem you're having, but so far the fix I've found for my problem is to boot into recovery, wipe battery stats and fix permissions and then it's good to go. Only problem is it sucks having to reboot your phone everytime you have to connect to a new Wi-Fi network...
I had the same problem as you. The wifi icon had all the signal but still did work just on my phone... I tested it on my PC and it was all fine. I decided to go back to stock then reroot again. It fix it a little bit bit still happens sometimes
I suggested unroot it via Odin then test the issue for a few days on stock. Just to see what the problem is. Then root if wish

Weird... I seem to have this problem too!
Sometimes my WiFi says connected Excellent connection, but it does not work. I know my internet works because my PC works fine.
I just disconnect WiFi and use 4G, yeah it's a lot slower, but it is manageable.
WiFi seems to randomly want to work.

Yeah it sucks... It was working normally before but not its mess up
I still haven't found a solution to this problem. My only solution has been to disable wifi, turn on data, turn off data, turn wifi back on, and it will work.
With this information, does anyone know what's wrong? I have restored back to my freshly rooted nandroid and wiped and reflashed to three different roms, all with the same wifi issue.
Is there anyone with a solution?
Try this:
turn off wifi, then...
in adb shell:
su
rm /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-eth0.lease
rm /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-eth0.pid
or:
if you dont want to use shell, get Root Explorer (or equivalent) and navigate to /data/misc/dhcp/ and delete those files.
then:
restart wifi. You may need to reboot.

I can't find those files. They don't seem to exist in my phone.
So far the only way I have been forced to turn on airplane mode and switch it off to use my wifi. I have to do this every half an hour or so. Does anyone have a more permanent solution?
same issue here. on wifi or on data, it will just drop, even though i have full wifi bars. I get between 75-100% packet loss. Sometimes jumping to airplane mode and back fixes it. Sometimes jumping to data and back to wifi, rebooting fixes it.....it seems.....for a while. Tried multiple roms/kernels. Same issue. during all this, my phone will try to sync data (2 gmail accounts) and just chug and chug, heat up my phone, and drain my battery. Any ideas?
I deleted those files, rebooted, lets see what happens.
T-mobile my account..... Do u have it installed? If so freeze it or uninstall it and problem will go away. I had same problem made a thread and posted my findings and turned out lots of people had similar issue of wifi sometimes working or both data and wifi signal showing when only wifi supposed to be on, wifi losing connection after a little bit. etc. In the end tmobile my account was the culprit
nope. No tmo my account, no green (or whatever) battery saver.
Deleted those files, and still had issues yesterday and today.
I had this problem. turns out my sgsii wasn't playing nice with my wrt 400n, gradually lost connection more frequently. flipped back to the trusty linksys g router, never had a problem since. I think it has something to do with n.
Turns out that it happens with all routers - for me anyway. It just loses internet every 20 minutes or so even while I'm still connected to the router.

No 3G and GPS

Hello,
so let me explain my problem with my desire. I'm using 3G network nonstop (data connection), actually , used to use. Since last Saturday (was using it everyday until that, nearly unable to get lock) I'm not able to get a gps lock (well, tbh just used 'cold start' in some gps toolbox app, and got lock without network in <10 mins, went inside obviously lost it, started data connection - no 3G even tho im using 3G on phone which is next to me ... on same carrier.. only EDGE ... and I'm unable to get the lock again, it takes some mins for the sensor to even see that there are some satellites out there.. and i've got 7/8 sats lock 10mins ago.., actually the phone is out for 5mins or so, with gps turned on and edge turned on and it says that it doesnt see any satellite..).
Well, second issue is as I stated up there with my mobile data connection. Same part with the Saturday, was using 3G everyday, whole day... and now, I get only EDGE, everywhere, phone standing next to my phone on the same carrier has 3G and I've got EDGE...
'What did I do?'
Well, I've tried reflashing ROM (CM7), no change .. only EDGE and hardly some gps signal.
tried nandroid restore, no change so i guess this is not a ROM problem as i was using CM7 without problems for 5 months+.
So I have a bad feeling that the HW in my lovely desire is starting to fail.. ... * i guess it found out that im going to order galaxy nexus soon *
Thanks for any ideas or solutions for my problem...
* going to check the phone outside, did another cold gps restart as i couldnt get lock with edge/wifi turned on... let me see ... yay , I't doesnt see anything, and by anything i mean anything..
... forgot to say, phone is rooted (you already know it as im on CM7) and S-OFFed.. but thats for the whole 1.5 year I have it so ...
let me check the phone again, .. 4/4 gps lock.. lol! .. tbg , screen attached ... turned gps off, turned edge on, and returned the phone to the same spot... nooothing ... no instant gps locks like the ones I've had in last weeks...
..hmm tried to use sim in other phone (which i found out is not working.), and now it says that i don't have a sim card.. must try the card in another phone..:crying: //edit , ofc it doesnt work when i pushed the sim the wrong way.. ... so this one is solved...
well, suddenly , i've got 3g ... and tried to start gps just for fun.. straight lock .. so ...

anyone ever had a problem with downloading CM10.1 updates through updater?

i use wifi and the download seems to cut out after a few minutes. but if i download on my computer and transfer over wifi to the phone that way, it works fine... it doesn't matter honestly because i dont need to download directly to the phone, but it's just wierd that it doesn't work via updater on wifi but if i use another app and send it from my PC over wifi to the phone it never has a problem.... just odd... any thoughts?
i'm not sure what caused this but the nightly from yesterday fixed it i think, it was happening since nightly from mid may
one of the fixes is to set wifi policy to never sleep, although for me, even tho i had wifi set to sleep when the screen was off, i was locking my screen on and it was still cutting out the download, so i think there is a seperate issue.
edit ----> today i had wifi set to never sleep and it still cut out, wierd.... it can't be my internet cuz i have never had a single cut out when downloading from PC.
