also backup a stock rom, when its clean installed, and save backup on your pc, so you always have a clean backup of a stock rom, then flash cm7

Yeah but if you flash back to Stock Rom using Odin your filesystem is back to RFS
Not necessarily, the /data and /cache partitions aren't touched by Odin.

The solution to that is to format within recovery mode. If that doesn't work, dd RFS-formatted empty /data and /cache back into place. Let me know if someone needs those.

Hello,
I just odined to stock EC05 with a full data wipe and it is totally stock except for the prerooted 2.5 part. It has clockwork 2.5, but I want to convert to EXT4 and Clockwork 3.0, How can I do this?
Thanks

No but don't forget to have an EXT4 compatible ROM ready to flash after installing CWM3.

no it wont wipe data if you stay on stock but if you're flashing another rom and not staying on stock you will be required to wipe data.

I'd prefer to stay on stock. Don't really want to load a custom rom. Thanks for the heads up.

Then i recommend you root with the 2.5.5 version as
EXT4 will be no benefit to you bro i believe you have to be on a compatible EXT4 ROM

I've rooted already on 2.5.5. I was just under the impression that EXT > RFS so that's why I wanted to switch.

Yes it is better as proven by now. But since you want to stay on the stock ROM and not lose and Data then you should stay with 2.5.5
If its just a problem of losing your data you can always back it up with an app like "Titanium Backup" and try an EXT4 ROM but if you want complete stock with root then use 2.5.5
Maybe you should try using a custom kernal. One that is compatible with ext4
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Yes you can study on stick tom with EXT4. You need an EXT4 compatible kernel. It's not the rom. Just boot into cwm3 an let it convert your and then flash a kernel like genocide or twilight.

Just so you know, I tried it myself. Ext4 does not boot when 100% stock.

What if you remove some of the sprint bloatware?
That has no effect on the filesystem the kernel supports.

Yes, it's kernel-dependant. I figured as much but wanted to test it out. Stock ec05 will not boot ext4.
Hi, I want to ask you, if there is any way to backup whole rom without flashing new clockwork mod?
1) How do I backup?
2) How can I restore it?
Yes, but you do need to be rooted. Have a look at this thread.
Thanks, but I can't see here the answer for my two questions. It's not problem to be rooted, but I don't know, how to make full ROM backup before factory reset and flashing new ROM.

Using an alternative recovery
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
Except for backing up your stock recovery, everything else should ideally be done in CWM.
You'll get Nandroid backup which is a lot simpler to use than the dd command I explain in that other thread.

So, I flashed CWM a few minutes ago, but when I wanna make there backup, it's starting, but then it writes something like: Can't mount... I have to have ext4 partition on my sd card?
No, you don't have to repartition your SD.
What firmware do you want to backup? CWM won't work for 2.2.x AFAIK.

OMG thats great now i dnt want to use 3rd party app for backup of my intalled apps thans for in4mation
First of all, sorry for the thread title, but my problem is huuuge
My CM9 was acting weird for few past days. It was crashing, rebooting, etc. But yesterday it switched off itself and didn't want to boot. Actually it was bootloop. So I pulled out battery, waited while, put it back, aaaaaand... the same. Then I decided to do wipe. I wiped cache, dalvik cache and ofc data. Nothing has changed. So I formatted everything, but not SD card. Then bootloop was gone, but phone didn't boot either. It was just black screen, but led lights were working. Today I wiped everything, flashed stock rom, wiped everything again and still bootloop exists. I have no idea what to do, I removed SD card and SIM card, but it's the same all the time. Some of you are masters of Android, maybe you've got brillinat idea?
PS
Sorry for this this language - my english isn't well

Oh, I've got something new. Can't wipe data, what is probably the problem. In recovery it shows:
--Wiping data --
Formatting /data
Error mounting /data!
Skipping format...
[...]
Data wipe complete.
So I can't wipe phone. How can I solve that. I tried stock recovery, PX-recovery, and CWM
I have had this ones. And i fixed it by flashing everything stock with odin.
And after that i flashed PX-Recovery. And now everything works fine.
Have you flash stock rom with odin?

Yes here is the link

Then go to the stock roms section.
Download the latest version. And flash with odin.
After that you can flash a recovery you want. I hope this works for you.
I got it - I flashed EXT4-formatter and flashed 2.2.1 and it worked!

When I delete files from system/App after rooting, why don't they come back after I wipe data and cache and flash stock rooted rom found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743923)?
It even didn't work when I went into settings and did a hard reset
The only way I got them back was to do what is listed here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099) and start all over from a non rooted state
Any idea why?
Thanks

Did you format system too?
Hard reset or factory reset just will wipe data. If the system files was removed those won't be restored.
Just most be sure of format system.
In CWM is in advance and in TWRP is in Wipe. The second option in the right.

Only way would be if freeza's rom didnt have them. which it would. What file did u flash from his page? Are you sure you didnt download just the firmware? His file wouldve been around the same size as mine. 700-800mb. Unless you were flashing his deodexed version. mine is odexed which without a system wipe may have caused them to not show

I Guess you are on Un locked Boot loader.
You can flash this kernel, i think its pretty stable and working fine. You will get TWRP too. Or Not, its your wish. Anyways Both will work.
Now, What i normally do is delete the files in phone memory. Then boot into recovery do a factory reset or Mount /system , /cache, /Data and format. Triple format to make sure everything is wiped. Factory Reset wont be enough.
Now flash the ROM which you like. It will be like fresh installation, there wont be any leftovers from previous ROM.
