this is basically a review on custom roms that ive tried...
my purpose of doing so is one to guide newbiez on sgy like myself
to give a background i was on galaxy 551 before switching to the sgy was running on custom roms myself i am no developer just an end user
currently i am running on stock rom with a couple build prop tweaks , audio tweaks, and customized layouts...following hhubs...
currently my device scores around 16xx on antutu benchmark and around the aame figure on quadrant....
yesterday i tried the hybrid 2.0
ive had high expectations on such custom roms specially the most talked about....and recommended roms...
now...ive installed hybrid which was a light and yeah fast rom....
well i couldnt feel the difference from my stock rom...
so i decided to run a benchmark test antutu and quadrant......
gave me the same score as my stock
16xx
but the thing was the rom was fast and lite almoat the same as my stock rom edited.....
if you have a different review please do post so that others can get a fair.review....
will try to review termas rom next week.....
--------------------------------------------------
termas review will be postponed...pc went down..cant flash his kernel...
--------------------------------------------------
adding aurora v2
pretty decent everyday rom
antutu gave a 1704 on performance governor...
i like the retro look..
would be giving it a rate of 9/10
for acouple of graphic glitches that are and will be fixed soon acocrduing to dev..
will write more later..

forgot to post working and bugs
everything was ok..except for the message about my balance...
the rom was overall a good rom with a sense ui feel.....

if you think that quadrant will show you your phone's actual performance then you re wrong. If you want hi scores on quadrant try searching for quadrant hack
I cant understand some mobile phone owners like you.
What do you expect from your phone?Magical abilities or something?

Hybrid 2.0 doesnt have sense ui feel
Hybrid 2.1 has the sense ui feel
and then again my antutu score with hybrid 2.0 would be 18xx to max 19xx
pls verify what hybrid did you use 2.0 or 2.1?

My apologies 2.1 for the sense ui..2.0 was running on touchwiz
Hmmm...good score for you mate
Mine was disappointing really

The sense UI is not that good! I have tried it on my sgy and i accept that it was fast but I removed it because of its buggy interface especially when the name of the app cuts in the dockbar.

i didnt say that i was basing my opinion on quadrant scoring...
i just mentioned it...
for reference i guess not really for anything..
for me i was expecting a lil bit better...
from a custom rom...
not just better aesthetics..
this is not my first phone and certainly not my first rom..
thou it might be true that performance cannot be measured by benchmarking...
but how do you measure or know if something is better that the other without benchmarking...
benchmarking is there for a reason,,,,
as for experience my galaxy 551,stock rom..almost the same edits that i have now,,except with a lower cpu of 600mhz..
scores right about 14xx
and with a custom rom from arkas right about 17xx
with a custom from perseus,,right about 18xx-2xx depending on setting made..
stock is good but a bit slow
roms from arkas are fast..
from perseus,,,hellluva fast..but battery...dead in 1-2 hour,...oc to 729..
why am i saying this,,,
custiom roms to my view should atleast give something that isnt offered in stock..
like a2sd from terma...
as far as cheating the benchmark..
why would you conduct a cheated benchmark in the first place,...like playing a good game but using a cheat...useless..
taking the exams and cheating...
Definition of BENCHMARK
1usually bench mark : a mark on a permanent object indicating elevation and serving as a reference in topographic surveys and tidal observations
2a : a point of reference from which measurements may be made b : something that serves as a standard by which others may be measured or judged c : a standardized problem or test that serves as a basis for evaluation or comparison (as of computer system performance)
See benchmark defined for English-language learners »
See benchmark defined for kids »
Examples of BENCHMARK
a stock whose performance is a benchmark against which other stocks can be measured
<this prize-winning biography will be the benchmark against which all others will be judged in future years>
First Known Use of BENCHMARK
circa 1842

btw..it would be cool if the phone transforms
guys i believe that ok maybe benchmarks are not perfect but they can show if a rom is faster than another.if your benchmark shows higher score that mean that something goes faster.but for better resaults you must repeat the benchmark for 4-5 times and from all scores get those that are more "stable" and most repeated.for example:if you run 5 times quadrant and get these results:
1050
1097
1129
1125
1130
take your score as around 1127.most times the first test shows lower result.
as for our custom roms i agree with OP but as long as we cant have a custom kernel, this is almost the best we can do.we can do much much more things and more ads and more tweaks and generally more speed for our roms if we had a custom kernel.but i think that all guys deserve our respect and thanks just only for the time their spend trying to do something better for our phone(this better could be faster phone or more fuctional phone or just more beautiful phone.whatever anyone can do).so i respect the opinion of OP whatever parameters he use.he flashed the roms,so he use them,so he can say his experiences!

can someone please inform me how the tmobile galaxy s phone can reach quadrant scores of 2400 and im only pushing 1200
I've hit 2700 on my Evo my penor is HUGE!
haha funny i actually seen his quad score so i know its true
I wouldn't think too much of it. Cyanogen showed that the difference between 1200 and 40 gabillion in quadrant can be something as rediculous as the filesystem. I don't put much weight in those scores when comparing different phones.

ok so other then cm what other rom/kernel would reduce lag and increase speed right now im trying fresh 3.3.0.1 with king kernel #9

Why don't you try installing >>Snap 7.6 kernel on a Sense ROM and then try to enable TURBO? That'll *should* get you scores beyond 2000 but I'm not sure how well it works. >>Snap kernels are designed for CM ROMs ONLY and there is no support for installing a >>Snap kernel on a Sense ROM - but I've read about others who've done it. Maybe give that a try? I haven't done it so I won't be any help but I've read about it which means maybe it'll work for you.
Dude I really don't understand why you're so concerned with Quadrant scores. It's just a number.

Well, it does ultimately represent something. But unless you can see a real difference, I wouldn't care so much.
If your phone is snappy and smooth, it shouldn't matter what score you get in Quadrant. When I was on CM6 I was scoring 2000+, on Fresh I get around 1650 and I think my Evo is running way better with Fresh than it did with CM6.
well see ive tried fresh with the kings kernel and still not gettin that high i wanna try nets kernel but not sure which one is compatible i like baked but takes too long to boot i also like fresh
Have you tried the new official kernel? It's not going to give you crazy quadrant scores but it will make your battery last a lot longer + I think the way HTC lifted the cap makes it smoother than the custom kernels. It makes the phone more useful which IMHO is more important than Quadrant scores.

Hi all,
I've got Leedroid and would like to know how the hell people get the 3000+ scores on quadrant ?
I've used most of the roms with a lot of the kernels but the most i get is around 2500 - 2600 , i've heard that the kernel by Kamma is a good one but i'm at a loss as to which one i should use.
So if anyone could point out which one i could use for .
1. Stability.
2. Battery saving.
3. Benchmarking (without smoking my device of course)
Any answers would be appreciated.
Thanks.

the first thing you need to understand is quadrant is ****, it is not an acurate indication of the speed of your device, a few devs have made kernels that trick quadrant into giving it massive scores, but in reality there kernels are not the best that being said, you wont find a better kernel for stability or speed than leedroids one, it is flawless you can download it here

Have you noticed much difference between 2.0.5 and 2.0.6 kernels? The LeeDroid thread is getting very lengthy to read through these days to catch up on new updates lol!

Yeah the new one is based on the latest kernel source, with the 1.75 libs,

Tbh I use leedroids newest one an its really good, quadrant gets 2500 +
The device is smooth as silk, bit then again it always was.
I didn't know that quadrant was pants, I thought it was a good benchmarking tool.
Confirm that the newest kernel of Lee is the best!but in a few days he prepare a new awesome BFS kernel...
Mmm badly ****ed scheduler. My favourite.
If you want good quadrant, buy the paid app which gives higher scores than the free one. Do the I/O hack which core and lee droids use. Use Leedroid kernel at max freq, performance governor, and finally run it in airplane mode.
Follow all those steps and you will get around the 3000 score.
You should state if you use quadrant standard or advance when posting results as they do differ. Otherwise it's like comparing oranges to mandarins. They are both orange but one is always bigger.

Yea it's just the standard version of quadrant, I thought that it would do the job.
Also i don't want to trick it or actually buy an app just so it can give me higher scores, that's not actually helping at all, i'll try the airplane mode to see if that helps, my phone is rapid anyway so it's only for my own satisfaction and to see how high i could get the score to go to.
Okay I have been using the quadrant and been hearing about it with ROMs. I have had Quadrant scores range from 1000 to about 2500 so what does this really mean exactly? My reason for asking is I came from a custom ROM where my quadrant scores were close to 2200 all the time. Then I flashed the stock Ec05 ROM and my scores are in the low 1000. BUT.....I do not see any speed difference with either ROMs. I think the stock one is a little more stable and just as fast as the custom one I was on where my quadrant scores were sky high. Can someone please explain to me why exactly one would use the quadrant score for??
Quadrant is VERY inaccurate
and is just a measure of people's E-penis

LOL..That was funny. I would just hate to give up the stock ROM because it is so stable and (fast enough) to have a custom ROM with issues and a high quadrant score. I honestly think I will be sticking with the stock ROM. I hope somebody will be kind enough to make some kernals or themes to work with it. If not oh well. Stability over quadrant score for me.

I came here to post exactly this.
Get Quadrant Advanced to see exactly why it's BS - it's all IO scores, especially on some ROMs that use a little DB trick (no offense, if you guys still use it ) - then switch to Smartbench. Smartbench is a much more accurate measure, and the dev has actively reached out to Epic users in testing his latest version.
I was wondering about this myself. Think I'm going to check out Smartbench. Thanks k0nane for the tip and that awesome rom of yours

Thanks for your support! Keep in mind 2010 is designed for single-core phones, and 2011 for dual-core.
Didn't see a thread for this in here anymore so I thought I'd post. I know synthetic benchmarks don't mean a lot but I'm curious of what other people are scoring since mine seems to be lower than others tested.
My phone is a Telus SGH-T989D with a rooted stock rom with SetCPU running the system at 1.5 and have the V6 Tweak setup.
I find it interesting others have scored over 4000.
I was going to ask this same question. I tried smart bench on stock rom and the score was always between 2500 and 3400 when i see results of over 4000... I now have the Bombaridier v1.3 Rom and still get the same low results?
Is this normal score or could our phones have some cpu problems? Im thinking on going to T-Mobile and exchange the phone since it also has the camera pink spot problem and minor screen lines and spots on low brightness in dark colors...
finally had some time to sit down and enjoy my phone
Why are we getting our clock cleaned by so many other SGII models?
I don't know if this is a contributing factor, but they're using 2.3.3
We're using 2.3.5
To further this pattern, from what I understand, ICS is causing qudrant scores in the low 2000's and below on good phones..
The more advanced the OS version, the more it taxes the phone.. Just an observation.
I understand that it's fun to see your phone on top, but aren't these "benchmark" tests pretty irrelevant to performance and satisfaction? Is your phone laggy? Do you have any problems or is everything buttery smooth and running well? If it is then I wouldn't worry about arbitrary test results to be honest. You can run benchmarks over and over and get a different score every time. You can cheat on them. In the end just find a ROM/Kernel with the settings and features you like and enjoy it!
Yes that's true but every upgrade in OS uses more resources, so you're bound to see more lag on ICS than our current ROM

I guess not that many people use this one.
Hey guys I hear a lot of negative stuff about how smooth the GN isn't and how the hardware is not that good but I must say that after 6 months of SGS2 use with many awesome roms like Checkrom etc and overclocking to 1600Mhz running a lot of benchmark tests I have to say that my experience with the GN has been awesome. Its smooth, fast and pretty.
But I saved all my Antutu, Nenamark and Quadrant scores and i have done a series of scores with the GN trying different roms and kernels and I say that the results, even only clocked to 1350Mhz were on average above my old SGS2. We should consider how much more effort is required to use the resolution of the screen to produce 6800 scores on Antutu and 3000+ scores on Quadrant.
This phone is really the next logical step and I actually get it why Google went down this path.

Nice to see a positive post for once.
Sweet as mate
I started a benchmark scores thread in general.
If you dont mind, can you post your ROM + Kernel and any OC/UV settings u applied.
Also, have u used CF-Bench and what was your score?
Cheers. Its big ie oc to 1350Mhz with Franco kernal.
