You don't need to install any extra drivers. Works outofthebox with linux.

EDIT: you can't download from a phone, has to be via PC....

I have torolplus.
Do you even have a Linux partition. Do you even know what Linux is? Do you know how to decompile a boot.img? Do you know what a boot.img is? You're way over your head here bud. Suck it up and stop asking or buy a GS3 like you should have from the beginning.

Ubuntu phone OS announced!

Today, Canonical announced the Ubuntu Phone OS, which will, in the near future, will be installable on current Android devices, starting with the Galaxy Nexus I believe. Is it just me, or cam anyone else not wait for this?!
For those of you who haven't seen it yet, here's the link: www.ubuntu.com/devices/phone

Awesome the more options the merrier!
It looks pretty slick. Options are always better. Would love for our devs to be able to cook some of those features in android. Open source ftw!
I can't wait!

Exciting news
Wait I don't fully understand, will it be on new devices or can we get it on devices that we already own?
Man the possibilities with having a real desktop computer in your hands and being able to run desktop applications right off the phone and not the slimmed down apps we download from google play. Looks great too.

I wonder if they'll make it for tablets soon too. Eventhough the tablet I have has ubuntu ported already, but not for mobile. Just the plane desktop OS.
I second the dual booting idea! The Ubuntu phone looks awesome just like the Ubuntu Desktop looks awesome. But I can't help but think that like the Ubuntu desktop the phone will have a huge applications gaps to over come.
This looks interesting but when would the first alpha roms would show up? I kind of think they havent even open sourced it like open webos

Maybe it will be easiest to use someone else's PC first. After that Mobile Odin can allow flashing from on board your phone.

Other than the method posted, no. Did you use the files in the attachments linked to that root thread? As there are no exploits available to make flashable roots it must be done either with a computer or the method posted.

I apologize for sounding rude, but if you can't follow that guide I don't suggest messing around with your phone too much.
It's pretty straight forward, all you're doing is typing commands into terminal emulator once the required files are on your sd....not difficult in the slightest.
Why not just go to a library and use one of their computers? Or a friends? There's no one click root for the GS3 pretty sure.
Thats where I need help at the terminal emulator commands

Well anyway,
I did try the exploit on my computer and discovered that the exploit appears to be patched for AT&T phones on the latest update, which most people have, which makes this thread somewhat pointless.
It did work on the previous 4.1.1, but only with a computer, which still makes this thread pointless, and most people are going to struggle anyway with the way the terminal commands are given.
It's much easier to just use someone else's computer and use one of the easier root methods.

Rooting on a Mac?

I tried motochopper method and it fails and have been trying the heimdall method but am having problems installing libusb. Macs are easily accessible to me but since my pc crapped out on me I don't have easy access to a pc that I can download stuff on, anyone with Mac experience rooting able to help? I've already read the threads on it and can't figure it out and they are old and doesn't seem like support is there anymore. Thanks
