Hey all! Just rooted my new TMo GSII, coming over from an Evo4G. Im still reading and such, but Wanted to get a quick overview on this phone Is there a generally accepted best ROM or most stable, etc? Anyone know of a blue themed ROM? I did find THIS ICS ROM, not sure if sompatible with the TMo SG2?
What say you!
First of there are many threads about ROMS, but I will answer your questions before someone comes and flames you.
Look in the themes and apps section for themes you would like with screenshots. Juggernaut is probably one of the top 3 most stable ROMS with pretty much all themes that work for it. So go with juggernaut and ICS theme from Alexia and you should be fine.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?

You beat me to the flame, but honestly don't we have a reason to do so when the answers are obvious? The ROM with the most views is more times than not the most popular and its not hard at all to visit the Themes and Apps section to notice the ICS theme being one of the most popular....then when people don't know how to thank you correctly for giving them a good answer (just saying)
Try the phone candy theme for juggernaut its blue and the one I use

BeastMod 4.3 has a nice ICS theme built into it. I'm running it and I like it.
darkside rom w sensation theme is what I'm rocking atm

۞ PHONE CANDY FOR JUGGERNAUT V5.0 & MACNUT & WARFARE & SlickMOD۞
IMHO the sleekest blue theme I've seen. Clean, simple, & tasteful! Doesn't have anything too dramatic or tacky things that screams nerd LOL
Choose a rom based on your personal needs and use; whether it be longer battery life, best performance, or features.

For the best all around rom, use DARKSIDE, digital warfare.

Lol i didnt like the theme tbh, felt the icons were "out of place" some parts i liked but mainly the theme was abit 2 much..
Jugs is a good rom but cant expect it to fit everyones taste..
@OP: best possible recommendation, simply either try a few roms, find 1 you like, or what works best for you, and if u cant find a theme, either put in a request or build your own its rather simple xD

Hi I've been reading here for awhile and just decided to post on here. I'm really considering rooting and was wondering. Are there any feminine type themes or ROMs? I did a search and all I found was this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860559 and it looks good but I'm really nervous on rooting because I don't want to brick my phone. I've read through the noob faq and also the ROM bible but I'm not sure if its what I'm looking for. Sorry if I'm confusing but I'm trying to learn more about making the phone my own. TIA!
29 views and no posts? No I'm not impatient or anything just wondering if anybody is gonna comment or help me out?
I think the reason people may have simply viewed and not posted is due to the lack of feminine themes out there. Are you looking for the latest and greatest, or simply a ROM that's nice and stable for now? Making themes for the Froyo ROM is much easier then making themes for the Gingerbread ROM. I am currently undergoing a massive undertaking of completely themed Gingerbread ROMs (as a hobby) and would not mind setting some time aside to make a few ROMs of the more feminie nature if enough people would like that.
It's good that you looked at the noob FAQ and did your research. before posting. As far as bricking the phone? There is always that chance, but the new methods for rooting the Slide are nearly foolproof now and wish it was that easy when I first rooted.
If you and/or other people post in this thread with if they would rather a CM6 or CM7 theme and how feminine they/you want it to look, I can lend some time to making a theme that is more suited to a womans taste. Do keep in mind that CM7 is experimental and has problems with a wide variety of users, CM6 however is much more stable.

Thank you so much for replying! I would like something stable without lots of problems. I wouldn't want to trouble you with taking time away from you working on something you are passionate about. But I do thank you for the offer. (if you do have the time to do so then thank you in advance) I'm gonna read around some more and hopefully see what I can find. Thanks again!
Also there is always the option to use apps such as adwlauncher, openhome etc that offer variety of themes

I've read about a few of those. I've tried adwlauncher before and I didn't like it to well (was moving between screens REALLY slow). Might try it again once I'm rooted. Thanks for the reply!
I posted a ROM over in the Themes and Apps section. Here is the link to the thread.

Hi aa,
I would be very interested in a feminine themed rom.
I currently have the SLIDE-Reloaded v1 which is in the bible by True blue. This guys really has it manned up so I had to delete a few things but what I really liked was that fact that it was pretty close to the stock rom. I had initially installed CM6 when I first purchased the phone and cannot really pin point what it was about CM6 that I didn't like.
I don't know a whole lot about this so please bear with me. Would installing another rom delete my apps and settings? To me the obvious answer is yes but I could be wrong.
Cheers!!

To be honest I did mention either CM6 (Froyo) or CM7 (Gingerbread) for the feminine themes, as that is currently what I am familiar with. I am going to make a more pink/lavender CM6.1.1 ROM in the near future as soon as I finish my newest CM7 project.
And yes, it is recomended to do a wipe before installing a different style ROM, like going from a Sense UI to a CM based ROM. You can always try an advanced nandroid restore and just restore data...

Awesome work
First of all nice work on DK5. Have no issues at all.
Second is a question...what kernel would you recommend for your ROM(s)?
---------- Post added at 09:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:49 AM ----------
I am posting this in the Q&A section because of my noob status and I registered solely to post this.
First a disclaimer: I have been a long time visitor/reader of XDA but never registered. I registered this morning for the sole reason of applauding DigitalKarma on such a fantastic ROM for the EVO 4G, DK5.
I’m not a developer. I’m an end user. More accurately though, I am a “flashaholic”. Not a day goes by that I am not searching for the next best thing in ROMs for my EVO.
I have run the full gamit of ROMs.
CM6, CM7, MIUI, MikRoms, Evervolv, MazWoz, Alter, Elite, Derp, Express, Nitrous, SOS, ODJDub. And that is just a start of all I have tried. AOSP, Sense 1, 2, an 3, ICS, you name it, I flashed it.
I look for aesthetics, speed, battery life, functionality and size in that order.
Those that look great and were fast, lacked in functionality with FC’s. Those that were functional and speedy, were usually so large that right after installation, I could not update apps do to the disk space taken up by the ROM, or, the battery meter moved faster than my gas gauge.
DK5 is hands down the best ROM I have tried in the past year. It meets and exceeds all expectations. Everything works. Everything is FAST and responsive, it is very pleasing to the eye (The Gomorrah clock is a brilliant touch btw). I have a new phone, and could not be happier with the results.
Stable, functional, fast, wonderful aesthetics and very good battery life.
Just wanted to commend you on your work and efforts and just say THANKS.
And I am all a flutter waiting for DK6. Keep up the great work!
hey sandtrapjack! thank you for taking the time to post thoughtful commentary on my rom and giving it a chance. the things you described are exactly what i had in mind while making this rom. i would love to hear more from you here on these forums.
as far as kernels goes, i still prefer the original Stock kernel that comes with the rom for the best stability. but if you're looking for an alternative i suggest you check out the kernels from ca1ne. he does great kernel work. links below for more information
Classic Sense Kernel: Stock kernel that behaves like a Stock kernel but with added performance tweaks. check this out if you want "closer to the stock experience"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557248
Underworld Sense Kernel: Stock kernel that behaves more like a custom kernel with over and underclocking capabilities, if you need to do that kind of stuff in your rom check this one out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570308
can't go wrong with either one. let me know how the kernels are working for you with this rom.
sorry if this is a stupid question,
are there any themes i can apply to this rom?
im looking for something pink or purple, for the wife of course.

nope not a stupid question at all, lol
currently there are no flashable themes for the rom. the closest thing to making the rom look appealing to the wife would be to go into htc wallpapers and use the pink flowery wallpaper thanks for trying out my rom!
Is there a rom and theme combo I could get her on? I really liked this one personally but she does not.

With that said yo kid you really out did it with this one... 5 STARS hands DOWN! son... I'm pressing the Thanks bottom like 1,000 times if I can... People people people try this Rom... Ok DK, saw a "teaser" for your v6 ROM and went right to the OP to download, but v5 was still the latest and greatest. Just said "coming soon". Got excited is all.
Just keeping an eye out. you can bet as soon as v6 hits the downloads, I'll be on it like white on rice.
Cleanest ROM I've found for OG..... By Far!!!
I also registered just to let you know how pleased I am with Digital Karma. I've flashed more ROMs than I can count and have found a few that made the cut, but this one has 2 weeks running strong with no issues. NONE!!! Excellent work sir. I just want to say thank you........
Evo 4G
You sir have done an excellent job! Great ROM! No issues!
Ok first a thank you goes out to all the developers before I go on my rant and question. I started rooting awhile back but got real serious with my s2. This site and people here taught me a lot just by reading and following instructions. Now I was away for awhile playing around with iPhones ( I know I know don't kill me) anyway I went back to my android with a s3 and my wife a one x. I ran stock for a few months but as you all know once you go custom it's hard to stay stock. So I rooted a week ago but can't find a Rom I want to run. Now this not for the lack of roms that sound and look good but things have changed so much on this site I don't know what to run. With my s2 I would look at a Rom read through comments about what was working, not working, or problems the Rom has and fixs. So on to my question. Pardon me but wth is going on with dev.forum. I look at a Rom and have to sift through pages and pages of crap that should be else where. People talking trash about developers, people fighting cause one person says yes but didn't read another's question. I wanted to learn how to make mods and work my way up to roms but I can't even find what Rom I want to use through all the crap. What happened to all that stuff being removed and such? Anyway enough of the soap box if there is anyone that really knows what their talking about like a mod. A developer or such that when they have time help me find a Rom that works for me. I asked before and got 2 roms recommended and of course the just try one till you like it but again I can't get through the crap on here. Sorry people who wasn't to talk trash about what a Rom did to your phone but if you would read through post without all the crap you can tell if you want to try it just by responses. Anyway any help would be helpful. Thanks for reading.

Just some advice, not trying to be rude or anything, but most people won't read a big wall of text like that. Break up your post into a few paragraphs so that it's readable and you'll get a lot better response.
I get what your saying, but that's also my point I have read long blocks of text about roms and problems. Give the reason why I didn't have to join till middle of this year to ask questions because answers where there. Not reading even if it's a wall of text seams to be part of the problem.

I can only speak for myself but as a long time user of Android this Dev is one of many top notch working on the SGSIII.
This rom is Solid, stable and my DD.
YMMV

Story of every devs life, they should up the post count to 30 to keep noobs out of development with their useless questions. Although that wouldn't deter them much. What were you running previously on your s2(aokp,cm,what was the base)? That would help with pointing you in the right direction ROM wise

Blazer ROM on sprint for s3, you could flash that if you get sprint modems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746184
Or there are ways of porting it. Supposed to be a script someewhere around here. Gonna have to search for that though if you want blazer. Oh wait I found it:

I know this gets a little into the problem you commented on in the OP, but a lot depends on a couple of things. Do you like TouchWiz? If you do there a few options, a few of them will be ICS(LH1) and a few are Jelly Bean. Personally the best one out there is Triune(Not that any others are bad), there are also a couple of TW JellyBean ROM's too, Serenity 1.2 is a AT&T Rom ported from the Note II, which I have great luck with. If you are not interested in a "stock" ROM, then we're talking CM or AOSP, and obviously CM10(JB) is a huge name out there, but in the AOSP world there is Task's, The Collective, and Liquidsmooth. I haven't run Liquids yet, but my phone REALLY liked The Collective's ROM. For me, the only JB Roms that dont crush my battery is The Collective's AOCP, and with the Stock TW Roms, it doesnt get any better than Triune II
I know it's kind of a pain to wade through, but unfortunately, you need to try them for yourself. It really is the only way

You are the second one to lead me towards that rom,i tried a few jb roms today and had some issues, same as when i had the s2, before ics all the ics roms had problems. Which is probley why i stuck with blazer since it was a gb based rom with upgrades. Thanks for all the help to es veryone who has responded also. I understand you have to play around with the roms some i guess my bigger question was how did xda dev. forums get so childish. Seams to be alot of arguments that dont need to be there. I couldnt belive it when i seen people telling devolpers to hurry up,and if they dont update there rom every 2 weeks they should be shut down?? It just crawled all over me because they dont have to be doing any of this. I mean my kids dont yell at the people that dont GIVE them the good candy during trick or treat.

Yeah, some of the users can get a bit childish in their expectations and their responses. It can be a little trying sometimes, and I've seen more than one dev step out because of it. It's too bad. But, people have also started stepping up and reporting bad posts to the mods, which seem to help some. With the amount of users here now, it's a little to be expected. You have to have the good with the bad
All I want is the stock rom with no bloatware, no spying stuff, and toggles (flash light)
I don't want any fancy teenage roms with crazy green aliens/monsters at the splash screen or gangham style music on intro. I am a professional and can't have that crap playing in the background while at work.
Any good light stock roms out there just slightly tweaked/lightened w/ toggles (flash light?)
Again--please NO TEEN AGED ROMS
Looking for clean, light, professional w/ stock appearance.
Well I can recommend not insulting half the developers here first especially if you don't want to get some angry responses. And second, MIUI or CM9 would be a logical choice for a stable, customizable and alien-free ROM.

Are those installable using CWM?
Also as far as insulting people, it's only an insult if you take it as one. I've donated to many developers here. I want what I am asking for and there's no other way to get my point across other than to ask for it. Not sure why every rom has to have alien sounds or giant monsters on the splash screen. I guess its their way of having fun. There seems to be no option to reverse that stuff.

You know their is a way to remove boot up sounds and in some ROMs change the boot animation, or remove it all together. Do a little research before just flapping your gums. Rushing made a no frills ICS ROM. Jedi Mind trick or Knight us pretty stock. Since I don't like your attitude, you can find out on your own where to find them or to remove the boot up sound.
Eugene's Plane Jane ICS should suit your needs.

Thanks for the "help" guys. It takes less time to not be a smartass and say "i liked the new miui! but xyz is popular".
Frosty Jellybean is an excellent "stock"-ish rom, but it has been discontinued but is still very stable.
Right now I'm on Darthstalker v8 and it's very smooth and close to stock. I've also used Wicked and Domination and they're excellent roms as well.
For your needs, a rom that is as stock as possible, I'd recommend Frosty Jellybean and Darthstalker (Frosty Jellybean is as stock as a rom can get and is very stable, but as I said before, development is discontinued.)
If you do go with Darthstalker, I'd recommend flashing the "STOCK UVDLJA FONT" and "REVERT CLOCK TO RIGHT" mods that are in the first post in the thread. I've yet to test battery life, but so far it's very snappy.
Thanks GenericAsianGuy, Darthstalker looks good. Definitely gonna need that font switch tho.
I personally prefer AeonFluxx, but everyone's tastes are different. Ask 100 different people, and you will get 101 different answers.
Doesn't take much time to look through the development sections yourself and choose your own favorite either..

Thanks for the "help" guys. It takes less time to not be a smartass and say "i liked the new miui! but xyz is popular".

I agree, look at the mods for each rom, and see the last 10 posts, if you do that you will limit what is wrong, and what people think of the rom. I did this a bout 3 weeks ago planning on making a template of the roms that are available for our phone, with a bio on each of the roms... I asked if people would like me and some others to do this and got little response, so I didn't think it was worth it.
My favorite JB rom is domination. Works 100% out of the box, no extra mods or anything you need to flash, fast and good battery life.
Thetenthdr, you're totally right about the opinions thing. I'll be checking out those other ones too. It'll take a while to get the jargon down, much less all the different features/pros-cons so I really appreciate getting some opinions so I can jump right in without a PHD.
I thought questions like this weren't allowed, why is this still open

elflip88, just to make you sad. mt3g, that's a great idea! The Vibrant had a great rom bible, don't quite see anything like that here (but maybe I just missed it)
Root66 is perfect for you.
Flip is correct. These threads are frowned upon because they almost always turn into a pissing match.
Mt3g's plan is what I usually tell new users. Browse the Dev section and pick a few you like and read their OPs. Then read the last 10 pages (not posts) or so to find out about some bugs/questions. Pick one you like and start reading.
Btw, many of us came from the Vibrant and yes you are correct, there was a fantastic "bible" over there. Would love to see one like it over here.
