No and you should delete this thread

Yes, the phone will still be usable as long as you don't try to use both phones at the same time. Only have 1 of them on at a time. I keep my donor in the truck in case my battery runs out on the EVO.

[Q] Can I disable 4g on a new phone and transfer it to my EVO?

I've been using an EVO for about a year and a half on Cricket in order to save a few bucks. I'm now back in a better job and ready to go back to a better service provider.
If I sign up for Sprint and get a new device with WiMax 4G (do they still offer those?) is it possible to program my EVO to use the 4G service and use it as a dedicated connection at home and disable it on my new phone (I don't need 4G while out and about honestly)?

The only way to do this would be to use the new device as a hotspot, thus sharing the 4g with the Evo. There is no way of just "transferring" wimax keys from one device to another. However, if you are going to get a new device on Sprint, why not just re-activate the Evo with new service?

Well this EVO has a bad ESN as far as I know, which is why I got it for use on Cricket. However, I tried looking up the ESN on some site that supposedly can check it and it said it was clear.
This phone is starting to age. It needs a new housing and the screen has gotten a few scratches. I wouldn't mind upgrading to a new phone at this point. It looks like Sprint still has WiMax devices so I'm good there. Maybe a Galaxy SII is in my future.
It looks like I can maybe get a new device and then once 4G is activated I can program the mac address of the 4G radio on the new phone into my EVO. I found some instructions that I think will do the trick:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447615
It seems like people have successfully transferred/shared 4G service between devices before. I think all I need to do is get aG service on a new device and then once that MAC is in Sprint's system change my EVO's 4G mac to that of the new phone. It doesn't look like I need to swap RSA keys between devices. This explains why you can do something like make your EVO 4G work with Clearwire's 4G simply by getting your MAC into their system.

[Q] What can The Epic be flashed too?

Hi a friend of mine wants to trade his Epic 4g Touch for my Evo Shift. I'm pretty sure it's worth the trade but before I do I wanna know what's possible on it first.
What all carrier(s) can the Epic be flashed to?
What's the best performing/fastest carrier available?
And is the flashing process easy?
Thanks in advance

First he's either trading off a bad device or doesn't understand his E4GT is superior in all ways to the Evo Shift.
Get the ESN and call Sprint to make sure it's clean.
Make sure he hasn't damaged it in any way, internal or external.
There are several Galaxy SII's so check the model number. Ours is SPH-D710 which I think can only be supported by Sprint, although it seems like there's a post somewhere about flashing it to Boost and US Cellular. (Found the links)

Keep in mind phones that run on Sprint can not run on AT&T or Verizon networks. (I stand correct, thanks booksyx) apparently it can be flashed to Verizon.
Flashing on this phone is super easy so long as you read and follow all instructions and when in doubt, ask questions. There are several incredible ROMs currently for this phone of both Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich flavors. Read in the development section to see for yourself.
The post above me has many incorrect statements.
The epic 4g touch can run on almost any CDMA network. I currently have mine running on Virgin Mobile. It can also be flashed to boost mobile, cricket, metro pcs, verizon, etc.
They key to getting it working on those networks is to have a donor phone where you can extract all the NAM keys, esn/meid, and data keys and flash them to the epic 4g touch. Really isnt to hard once you have all the keys to write them.
My epic 4g touch has everything working on virgin mobile. Calling/SMS/MMS/3g/Wimax. However you will have to go elsewhere for a wimax solution. Best part is I only pay $25 a month for all this!
The ESN is clean and it's also relatively new. Not 100% sure what the exact model is but i'll find out when he gets off work.
The whole reason he's making the trade is because EVO is his favorite phone. He was going to trade me his iPhone 4 for my EVO but then I found out that even if I flash the iPhone 4 that Data and MMS dont function fully. So I didnt want that.
But If the Epic is that much more superior that makes me want it more now, as long as I can get it fully functional on a prepaid service that is.
I wasn't aware there was so many different versions. Because he didnt tell me it was an Epic, all he said was Galaxy S II. So I ended up posting in the wrong forum. But his is Sprint though so everyone said it's an Epic 4g Touch.
That's good that it's relatively easy to flash. I personally prefer boost, but whatever is fully functional and runs the fastest
*Edit
Does every carrier require a donor phone to Flash to?

Many incorrect? lol I see one (oh make that two, didn't know that about Verizon) and that's why I said thinks like *I think* as in I'm not 100% sure, just going on what I've recently read here on XDA.
Thanks for clarifying that though.

HTC Evo 4g on Tracphone network - flashing etc

Hi everyone! This is my first post, hopefully I don't get canned too fast. Here's my situation - I have an Evo 4G that I had with Sprint. I no longer have the service, but still use the phone's wifi for internet and of course I also use the music application. I recently signed up for some weird government free phone thing with tracphone. I have a POS tracphone with 250 free mins every month. Instead of carrying 2 phones with me everywhere, I want to flash/enable the Evo 4G to be on the tracphone network. I basically want to use the serial number and phone number from the tracphone on my Evo 4G. And it seems like it's possible. As I'm brand new to this, my first thing was to download the "evo flashing tools.rar" file. I haven't opened it yet and have NO idea what I'm getting myself into.
Please note, I am NOT trying to get the Evo 4G's 3G/4G network speed going...I will be content with being on a crap network, the crap network that Tracphone uses. I will only be using web features etc while connected to a wireless network. I just want to be able to make calls and send texts from this Evo 4G while being on the tracphone network.
Any and all help is appreciated! As I'm a noob I'm sure there's many links and tutorials I need to know about, so if anyone is kind enough to help me out on this I would be so thankful! I'm sick of carrying around 2 phones!
okay I downloaded the main rar, and I'm reading through the "evo 4g tut" PDF. It seems like they assume thedonor phone can be plugged into the computer...but of course my donor phone is a $10 piece of crap that does not connect to the computer in any way whatsoever.
The tutorial is saying I need to get the ESN and MEID, HA, AAA, 1192 and 1194. How could I possibly get that information out of this phone? It's literally a $10 tracphone that doesn't have the capability to connect to a computer. What do I do now? Is this even possible?
Did you look under the battery?
For just talk and text to work, you need meid, mdn, and msid from donor. You will probably have to change PRL too. Does the tracphone take a sim card? If so, it is not possible to do what you are wanting to do. If you need a little more help or info, shoot me a pm

thanks!
Ok wait I just popped open the Tracphone and yes it does have a SIM card. Couldn't I just pop the sim from this and put it in the Evo 4G? All I want is talk and text.
But seriously? If it has a SIM card there's no way to use the Tracphone service on my Evo?
I found the IMEI.
Shouldn't I be in business?
How could I get the info I need from the Tracphone without it having the capability to connect to a computer?
There's an almost identical thread/method here but involving using the Evo 4G with Virgin Mobile. This has to be possible. Right?
It's not possible to get your CDMA Evo 4g on a GSM network. You're out of luck.
Does your evo have a sim card slot?

Flashing to Boost?

Since the Epic 4G Touch is out for boost now is it going to be pretty straight forward or will i still need a donor phone? I have never flashed a phone before amd am a bit wary. I'm currently paying $80/mo for limited service and would like to move to Boost. Every tutorial I've read about flashing to Boost are almost a year old and outdated, can someone point me to a more recent tutorial? I am rooted and using calkulins ICS rom if that matters. Thanks in advance!
*edit* I guess I should elaborate on what I meant about outdated, I meant that the tutorials were made before the epic 4g touch was available for Boost. Anyways I've already had my sprint service disconnected due to it being on my now ex-girlfriend's plan.
