Whats up with the 1230 mAH battery? even worse than the one on the desire? i realize this new cpu uses less power, but still they should have gone with an 1500 mAh battery to have decent battery life :/ im worried they sacrificed battery life to built a slimmer device
Is the screen regular lcd os super lcd?
Why did they remove the kickstand and the hdmi port?
so everybody loved every inch of the desire hd? no complaints?
I personally would wait for reviews before passing any judgement. Looking at specs alone can be deceiving.
Just a few weeks ago, people were complaining about the 800mhz cpu in the G2/DesireZ. But benchmarks show that it's just as fast, if not faster, than the 1ghz cpu in the Desire and Nexus One.
I agree with with the OP i was all set to pre order the Desire HD until i saw it had a smaller battery, HTC claim the new CPU etc requires a lot less power but i`ll hold on until people tell us what its like in the real world.
Well I like it for the SIZE...... and comes with FROYOOo.... The specs and the initial benchmarks tell the CPU is faster and the GPU is lil bit faster than the Galaxy S. We will wait and see.

Agreed, a step too far in terms of size

i know , btw i didnt complain with about the desire z cou haha , but what bugs me is that ok the new cpu might consume less, but take advantage of that an include the same battery as before to get BETTER battery life instead of trying to maintain the same crappy battery life

Yes, you didn't complain about the CPU. What I was trying to say is that you're complaining about a piece of hardware based on specs, just like how others were complaining about the 800mhz CPU previously.
My point is to just wait for the reviews. It could be that the battery life will last you a day and a half with heavy use. If that's the case, then there's no point in HTC slapping on a larger battery.
My opinion is battery life is the next big hurdle to overcome in terms of smartphones and I have to say I agree with the comments made along the lines of, where the battery is concerned, bigger is better.
It would be nice to go away for a few days without having to add to clean socks, skids and toilet bag, a mobile phone charger lol
unplug your pc and see how long that lasts?
These smart phones are mini computers ... and as such it's not suprising that you have to plug it in all the time ...
Look at the ATOM CPU... smaller CPU was ment for netbooks...
We have an evan smaller CPU .. ment for our " phones"
I agree with the comments and being an ex-user of HD2 which uses the same battery, the battery life really sucks as it will only last half a day when you have a lot of calls or sms.
What's the point of having a good specs smartphone but the battery cannot even last with such lithium ion, 1230mah battery since the size of the phone is so big?
In terms of sound and camera quality, HTC is still not good at these area no doubt they are in the smart phone market for many years than other manufacturers but their technology is still not as good.
Even if the firmware support is good but there is a limit with the hardware they have.
Just my sharing.
HD
I'm a desire owner, personally I think the HD is just too big, hence for a second phone, I have the x10 mini pro, perfect for making all my calls and texts , whilst I use my desire for all surfing needs.....
Desire white does look soooo sexy though!

I completely agree with you. Keeping the same battery + Better efficiency = Incredible battery life. I don't see why they would want to make it the same or "around" the same as the other handsets ??
What i care about battery, most stupidest and annoying design flaw is PUT ONLY 512mb rom to phone. Only ~40mb is left for all applications, mail cache, facebook & twitter & so on work memory (most of rom is used for android&sense&so on basic phone installation that you cannot modify without root). When free memory drops to 16mb, low memory warning is displayed and after that you cannot install any application, get updates and gmail sync is not working. so between 40mb and 16mb is 24mb cap available to use. Way too little!

Yea unfortunately, I find that to take advantage of android to its absolute fullest, you have to root.
@chong
I have to counter your experience of the hd2 batt time. I easely cram over 15 hours from my hd2 - even if I run android.
I agree though that the 'out of the box' batt time is to low on most smartphones - but then again, most people doesn't seem to bother - iphone for example is terrible on batt time.
Sent from my HD2 Froyo using XDA App
I was expecting a lot more improvements from Desire HD versus the Desire.
Like:
- Higher resolution of the screen. It's 4.3 but the same resolution as the Desire, so you will end up with bigger pixels.
- Front facing camera. Facetime like experience is kinda girlie thingy, but actually ended up wanting this for example when you are on a long trip and you want to see your family.
- A faster processor - why not 1.2GHz?
- A kick stand, like the HTC Evo. Ended up wanting one of those while trying to watch some episodes of Friends on the plane. I had to hold the phone all the time - kinda frustrating.
At the end since it does not have higher specs compared to the Desire and since I swap my HD2, first because of Android, second because of the huge brick that I had to carry around, so I'm sticking with the Desire 1st gen.
why does everything has to be 4.3 inchs, I would love to see a better screen then an iphone 4G, and a tegra 2 Chip be awesome.
Think I'll lay off the Desire HD and Desire Z for now. There's not much noticeable improvement from our Desires. I'll wait for HTC's next big announcement
Ok so now weve all had a decent play with our OX whats everyones thoughts?

Not much playing to be had here, battery life is just way too poor.
Are you considering a switch i lv put the ox back in the box an using my gs2 in hope a fix comes via OTA for all the little bugs

If your device is that bad then send it back as it's clear you're having a lot more problems than everyone else.
no problems here in anyway battery life is fine handset running smooth and fastttttt....................superb device love mine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After I found a way to move my Angry bird space progress without Titanium backup, I'm content using un-rooted one x for now.
I'd like to use Adblock for web browsing and Autostarts to stop some apps from running, but ICS RAM management seems to be working fine.
Battery life seems OK, got 3 hrs 40 mins with full screen brightness and 3G on 2nd full charge.

I will send it back after the bank holiday IF I can get an RMA off Handtec.
I won't quit moaning about it, the OP asked for an opinion so I gave it. It's a big chunk of change to put down on a device to have something important let you down.
It's hard to appreciate a device when you can only get 3 hours screen time off a 3 hour charge.
It totally undoes all of the good work HTC have done with it. If you took the battery life of say an iPhone 4 and applied it here, it would be hands down the best piece of kit ever to come out. Literally.
I wouldn't use it as often at home because that is what the laptop and high end gaming PC is there for, so when out and about without access to a plug socket you want it to be at least reasonable. It seriously isn't.
Waiting for software / firmware updates when you have a limited time frame to return it is too much of a risk.
If HTC would have pushed 1.27 on launch day as anticipated a lot of this ill feeling wouldn't be here.
Your buying a device that is different to what is in the reviews.
Battery isn't great but its nothing different than other android phones.
ok so having had it since 7am this morning i must say its amazing, its buttery smooth, not had 1 bit of lag or stutter,
as it stands atm its currently on 9 hours 17 mins and the use i have been doing is
downloaded 7 apps,
installed gta3 from tegra zone which the download to play is 492mb over wifi,
took about 30 odd pics 2 videos 35 secs each
phone calls for about 45 mins total
set up dropbox, browsed ebay for 7 mins and brought 2 items,
ran 4x benchmarks
browesed market place for about 10 mins
sent and recieved around 40 texts,
played around on facebook,
as im a phone shop manager i treated myself for a comparison on it with
the razr
xperia s
s2
my nexus s
mainly cameras , benchmarks speed tests, really testing day .
1 major astonishment i found was
i managed to take come off lock screen boot camera-take a pic before the xperia s got into camera mode. winner,
but so far so good no issues from me and my sexy white x
cheers,

Whats the problem,
At the moment, I'm getting a very similar screen on time to my SGS2 (3+hrs) & my HTC ONE X screen is much brighter then I ever had it on my SGS2.
Its also a known fact (due to reviewers) that 1.27, which we don't have yet, 'dramatically' improves battery life with 1.28 'rumoured' to extend it even further!

I guess it is the chance we take on buying the device at launch, there always going to be problems both hardware and software we sometime so-called "bata tester" get stuck with.
You could just return it and wait for couple of months to see if HTC made any improvmements.

That is what I don't understand about this launch.
The phone reviewed isn't what we have. The reports of battery life and such aren't what we have paid for.
I contacted HTC by email , phone and Twitter and nobody has any ETA and even deny knowledge of an update coming for general release soon.
I just want the device the reviewers had.

Even without the update, your still getting a battery life very similar to Samsungs current flagship device (which has had a few software updates) - this is with a much brighter screen, a larger HD screen & a quad core processor when compared to the SGS2.
Are you just pissed you haven't got the 1.27 update (& don't know when you will...), or do you really think the battery is that bad?
I know 1.27 is gonna improve the battery, but even in its current state - when I compare it, it ain't that bad compared to the competition.

I had the SGS2 and the battery life is better than what we got here, seriously.
And I did have a Sensation around launch , it was glitchy but again the battery life was not this poor.
But it could also be a case of not noticing it as much because I could carry a spare battery if need be, but never felt the need to use it.
Today our car broke down on the motorway and after calling the RAC then having to get a tow, the battery was nearly depleted and I had the worry of whether it would last long enough to take the call from when they arrived.
Then having to send a few texts to let people know we wouldn't be getting there, just how on earth are you meant to appreciate the greatness of this phone with the constant battery worries?
Random point, but do this.
Go into the Play store, scroll down the free apps for a short while, then check your battery status. 3 or 4% down having done practically nothing.
Such are the risks of getting a v1.0 anything I'm afraid, it will almost always not be as good as v1.1+. You take the chance of having initial issues vs. having the latest greatest device first. This has always been the way, some of the early release iPhones have had terrible problems until receiving patches.
At the moment I'm loving the phone, I don't think the battery is all that bad so far, but looking forward to the updates making it better, I'm certainly happy with the choice I made, no question.

Think I will try a swap out for another, see how that fares. If it is exactly the same then atleast I know i've given it a fair roll of the dice.
It's like I am really hoping there is something wrong with mine, and the battery isn't how it's meant to be but the pattern is common on here and usage stats are all pretty much the same.
I wouldn't say its right to compare it to the iPhone neither. HTC have had plenty of time to get this right. I've had the Hero> Desire > Sensation and now this. Each time I keep expecting them to "get it right" and they never quite make it.
The craziest thing is, the Hero is still my pick of the bunch judging by how I felt at the time and the fact I added a hench battery and made it even better.
i think alot of users were expecting too much from the phone massive hype led to a kick in the nuts for some .. ????take the phone as it is, if battery is going to make or break your decision then a machine like this maybe isnt for you.
end of the day it is android 4 with sense 4 big screen quad core - expect battery to be poor until you have a few cycles and updates are sent out, dhd was worse i had 2 off them....
cheers
Im getting my HTC One X on Tuesday next week from phones4u hopefully, cant wait!. But ive read such a difference in people experiences with the battery life of this phone that im not sure what to make of it! lol, ill just have to wait and see I guess and report back how i find it, it promising to see that the majority, correct me if im wrong, of UK users seem to be reporting good battery life though!
I dont start Polls every but I think that this one is important because why would HTC not release new official firmwares in the near and distant future that improves battery life?
I really don't know if this is a joke or if its fact, see thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610951
Another link: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...pdate-coming-to-improve-one-x-battery-1076825
I really will be surpised if people dont react to this, how would you react? Would you not at the very least send them a long pissed of email?
For some this is perhaps nothing, but I think battery life is the most important thing and is it not obvious why?
(THIS POLL WAS NOT MEANT TO MAKE PEOPLE EAT THEIR OWN FINGERS, IT WAS MEANT TO SIMPLY PUT PEOPLE'S OPINIONS TOGETHER AND MAYBE BE NOTICED BY HTC, WHO KNOWS?)
I think you're getting the wrong idea from the HTC statement. It isn't that they're not going to focus on battery life but more that the current One X battery life is how it should be. There isn't a quick fix available by moving the now known to be useless nVidia app into the correct directory. As the article states, they've already done some fixes to the screen autobrightness which should help with battery life and the flickering.
This is just a PR exercise for them to minimise the outrage and misunderstanding about that specific nVidia app. They're still a manufacturer who makes battery powered devices i.e. phones so they're still going to be concerned about battery life.

I have a hard time accepting that this is what the battery life SHOULD be, because the 1X houses the Tegra 3 which is suppose to be the big game changer and reaaaaaally make the battery last. I am fine with my 1X but I cant believe that this is the way the battery life will be forever. I mean look at my Samsung Galaxy S2 it can go 3 DAYS strong before it dies (Amoled bla bla) this is where Tegra 3 comes in and the 1800mah battery.

The Tegra CPU does have that extra low speed low power core but the problem with the One X battery is when you're actually actively using it. During those times, the CPU will most likely have the other 4 cores running and the power hungry LCD + backlight will also be on. If I'm not really using the One X then the battery is great but thats because it is mostly asleep running on that low power core. If I'm playing a game then the battery drains alarmingly quickly.
Before you claim that I'm just following HTC blindly, I would like to state that I would appreciate better battery life as the One X isn't amazing in that regard. I just don't think that HTC are going to completely ignore battery life in their firmware as you originally stated. They'll do what they can but there isn't a 20% increase hiding in there just by moving that specific nVidia app. There might be gains in there from altering the voltages or frequency scaling.
One thing which HTC have stated and does directly affect the One X along with its battery life is that they did studies where consumers preferred a thin phone. This puts massive restrictions on what battery you can use and whether it is removeable. I'm not sure the value of the studies they did since everybody is going to say that they want a thin phone.

The mistake is mine, like I stated I never start polls, and it not meant to be hostile I mean what would the point be in that? Attacking ourselves? hehe.
I just believe that the battery could improve ALOT if given proper attention, another thing is the camera, I dont understand why the pictures are never larger than 3 MB?
Maybe I should write it in the OP that this is not a hate Poll, its more a customer satisfaction Poll.
I mean the clients are the most important in the end.
HTC did a good job on the phone physically but I think most people can agree that they were surprised by the power consumption in the units.
The Asus Prime also houses the Tegra 3, and it has 3 power control options, maybe HTC should implement such a feature.
Cheers!
When DHD came out, the battery life wasn't the best, cos of its monstrous screen , anyway, customs roms improved the battery life a lot and I think they will improve one x:s battery life as well, but it would be a bad move from HTC to officially announce that they are not doing anything about their flagship phone's battery life

Im sure the SGII has a bumpy ride before getting a nice battery life based on software improvements.

No, it's not, it's a poll for "If HTC no longer focuses on battery life in their official roms, how would you react?".
How would I react? I honestly couldn't care less, but the option for that is stupid and insulting. You're essentially implying that anyone who doesn't care that HTC is no longer focusing on battery life is a "sheep" and cannot think for themselves.

I will repeat it again and again if I have to, look since the sheep thing upsets people then I would change it to 'indifferent' because thats what it is implying and if you dont want to answer then dont, its more to see what people think about the whole battery issue not YOUR personal self-insulting issues or whatever you have going on.
I also wrote in the beginning that I never start Poll and yes I am abit of a crude person but thats just me.
I also added this : (THIS POLL WAS NOT MEANT TO MAKE PEOPLE EAT THEIR OWN FINGERS, IT WAS MEANT TO SIMPLY PUT PEOPLE'S OPINIONS TOGETHER AND MAYBE BE NOTICED BY HTC, WHO KNOWS?)
And if I may say I really cant believe that you couldnt care less if the updates didnt improve the battery, I think you belong in the less than 99.9% group who do not want the updates to include battery enhancements or performance, and again about your sheep-complex its something you have to sort out im sorry im no psychiatrist.

It's not even the fact you typed those 4 letters that makes me think this poll is stupid, it's the fact that by using the options you have done (including an insulting term in the counter option to what you believe) you're pretty much 'forcing' people to agree with you. You're not going to get accurate results with this poll (y'know, completely defeating the whole point of it).

I just don't care about battery life that much. It's fine, it does the job (Mine's currently at 60% after 7hours and 24minutes on battery).
Not sure about my "sheep-complex", as you so eloquently put it, but someone who flips out and argues with random people simply because someone disagreed with their point of view must have some sort of god-complex.
That can't be healthy.
Johnny0906 said:
Why would it yield innacurate results? Im sorry but I have to ask.
Because of the sheep things? I think strong minded people dont care about stuff like that.
And again I think 99.9% of the One X owners would like to see updates that improves battery life asides from other stuff.
You're one wierd little one...

Haha, I'm a bizarre person, I wont lie!
And no, strong minded people wont care, but they probably wont vote.
I think the 161 views and only 4 votes speaks for itself, don't you?
I think that they will be working on codes to optimize battery-life..
Read here from Engadget's article:
We also discussed battery life and competing phones that come with physically larger batteries (especially the Droid Razr Maxx), but Vice President of Phone Strategy Bjorn Kilburn claims that for most customers going into the shops, power consumption is not on the top of their lists. In fact, HTC claimed it tested a large battery concept with selected customers and carriers last year, but it didn't sell.
It turns out people just prefer thinner phones (or at least initially they do), and therefore HTC chose to take a holistic approach to improving battery life through power management optimization, choice of power density, choice of voltage and many more.
HTC's preference to wired charging over the comparatively slower wireless charging also helps reduce phone downtime, of course.

I just read thru the article fast.
I really hope they focus on battery improvments.
Me and some other people were discussing on a thread if it could be possible to change the 1800 battery to a maybe 2000? that is more or less the same size and if its not too much of a difference in size then maybe even a 2200.
If you notice on the back of the 1X the poly-body is 'soft' if you press it abit, and also opening didnt seem TOO difficult.
But first think is to find the correct battery model but stronger and go from there.
Another possible scenario could be to make use of those 5 pins on the back. But at least for me its unclear about what they exactly do or will do, of course a Dock comes to mind but will it get charged via those pins?
In that case you could have a cover with an extra battery or something
Cheers

So if you knew this to be a fact, how would you react?

Well, since it's not a fact I'm not going to react at all. How you got that HTC's abandoning focusing on battery life out of this is beyond me. If their phones suddenly become known as the worst of all manufacturers for battery life they may as well shut down now. It's a competitive industry and their battery life needs to be competitive also. They're not idiots.
This week, at its Frequencies blogger event, HTC said it was looking at ways to prolong battery life without adding more bulk to the phone itself. Speaking to bloggers in Seattle, HTC's vice president of phone strategy Bjorn Kilburn said that the company had rejected models with huge 3000mAh batteries because they were too thick. PCMag reports that Kilburn said research indicated customers wanted a phone between 8mm and 10mm thick and that customers weren't happy to buy a phone any bigger than that.
"We experimented with putting in a lot more battery, making the device thicker, but consumers don't want to buy it," Kilburn said. "So we spent a lot of time finding other ways [to maximize battery life] than the brute force approach."
HTC is now trying to find ways to improve battery life without whacking a great big battery in the phone and calling it a day. Kilburn highlighted the HTC One X's LCD 2 display, which he says is less power hungry than an AMOLED display as an example of the company's efforts.
My desire is now 22months old. I've upgraded to BCM ICS. Stable enough to be pretty sure it'll reach a polished and reliable state over the coming months.
I've trialed ICS and it's great but the battery life often leaves me with a dead phone when out for the day.(highly annoying). This starts to hamper my use of the phone because i'm mindful of it running down.
My dilema is whether to upgrade my handset. I want the newer functionality of ICS and if I can get acceptable battery performance out of Desire I'll keep it for another year or so. I have just extended contract for another 24months sim only - got a great deal.
I'm trying to work out if a new battery will bring a decent (ie 30%+) improvement to the battery life.
There are plently of anecdotal threads about battery life such as this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478267&highlight=replace+battery
Many people on this thread are claiming 2 days+ use which i have never seen. In fact using say just using navigation will flatten battery from 100% in around 1.5 hours.
But these threads are irrelevant since there are too many varibables ie usage and network.
3 Questions:
1. So i've tried the AnTutu tester and scored 391. Anyone else used this - please post your score, age of phone and max CPU speed?
2. If you are aware of a more popular battery testing util which has lots of stats for desire users please let me know
3. Has anyone replaced battery stock with stock and used some testing software to compare performance? What did you find?
I just replaced my two year old battery with a new HTC battery. And even on the first charge I got at least one hour more screen time. So if you're gonna stick with your desire its definitely a good idea to get a new battery.

Thanks. I guess i'd be interested to know if you measured the battery vs the old one with an app so i could compare. (my old battery may be in much better condition than you old one so replacing may not improve things much.
Where did you buy your official one?
Bump.
Anyone?
Hi all, I bought my brand new original HTC One X 3 days ago and it got the newest android version for it, JB. But there is a big problem and it is the battery, it's just horrible to see such a awesome phone with a battery life like that. Does anyone know which things I can do to have a better battery life? I already have the almost lowest brightness, no live wallpaper and no antivirus on the phone. I also use the official energi saving function that comes with jelly bean but it doesn't even make the battery better at all, not even a little bit. Please help!!!

You will find your phones battery life will improve, mine wasn't that good for the first few days.
When ever i get a new phone i always charge it over night & then when its off charge leave it till it bleeps to be put back on charge, do that for the first few times as i find it gives the best life.
Mine is very good now

can u say how long your on screen time or general battery life is? but at the first few times/days/weeks it's really bad but after few charge cycles it will bet better because the battery has to improve itself with the information the phone gives, you know? wait and charge and after a week or so it will be really better...
Or if you just disable google now you will be good. If you disable google maps aswell your battery life will be perfect. Something is wrong with those two
That issue is just with jelly bean

if you play more then 1 hour or so then that's not so bad because if you play a game or two only from full charge you can reache 2- 2,5 hours...with games like THD games or other which make a lil bit more heat or so ....and if you play only games like solitaire for this time or so ...then that's really not normal...you know that in the hox are 4 cores and 8 gpu cores, and therefore the battery isn't like in a phone with 2,500 or more mAh because our has only 1,800 mAh ...if yo uwant to disable it press long home button and then you can press the menu button and there will be settings in that you can disable google now and for the other google things just go in settings then apps and then all apps and there you can click on any app ! but don't deactivate system apps! and if you click on them there will be a button deactivate and yes press it and it is disabled
I usually play Dead Space but not for more than 20 minutes because the phone heats up like hell -.- And I disabled google now hope the battery will be a little bit better, but any more ideas how I can get better battery life please
With my HOX, I found having brightness at 60% or less made the biggest impact. Also, disabling wifi when not needed made a huge difference. Decrease the time between auto syncs, and also check for wakelocks. Might have an app waking the phone a lot.
But I do understand where you are coming from. The battery life was killing me also, so I bought a Note 2 as a primary phone and now use the HOX as a music player for which it is outstanding haha
the first time the battery is always bad ._. just wait some days or so and it will be better...and look with betterbatterystats which wakelocks you have then you can see which apps might make the battery life also more worse...
Thank you very much I will try them, the battery seems to be a little bit better when I turned Google Now off
i have the AT&T HTC ONE XL (L For LTE)

Pretty obvious, isn't it? Plus the Snapdragon S4 Krait has a better manufacturing process (I think 32nm) compared to Tegra 3's 40nm process, so it's more efficient and less power hungry.

Not true. Look at the RAZR Maxx. If Motorola can put such a huge battery in a thin phone, there's no reason other manufacturers can't. Also, it was definitely possible to put a bugger battery in the One X, but HTC just didn't do it. They instead released One X+ sometime later and claimed better battery life as a 'feature'. That's just wrong, and very similar Motorola releasing the RAZR, and then the RAZR Maxx soon after. The phone should have had that battery since the start. The only reason I can find with Motorola is that the RAZR is slightly thinner for those who want it that way. But the One X and One X+ have 0 design difference.

My point was in comparison to old phones.it'll be a long time before we get as good batrery life as on old phones. Reason being smArt phones just do to much nowadays..many forgetting it's actual purpose

Just don't forget that the T3 is a pretty "old" chip, it needs a lot of power.
Nevertheless, I think the One X isn't that bad regarding battery life. It will drain quickly if you start gaming, but you should expect that. It's no gaming device, it's still a smartphone. Of course you can play your games every now and then but if you expect you can game with that thing for hours without getting it to heat up or charge it in the meantime, you put your money on the wrong device
