Htc Desire HD not so good after all?

Whats up with the 1230 mAH battery? even worse than the one on the desire? i realize this new cpu uses less power, but still they should have gone with an 1500 mAh battery to have decent battery life :/ im worried they sacrificed battery life to built a slimmer device
Is the screen regular lcd os super lcd?
Why did they remove the kickstand and the hdmi port?

so everybody loved every inch of the desire hd? no complaints?

I personally would wait for reviews before passing any judgement. Looking at specs alone can be deceiving.
Just a few weeks ago, people were complaining about the 800mhz cpu in the G2/DesireZ. But benchmarks show that it's just as fast, if not faster, than the 1ghz cpu in the Desire and Nexus One.

I agree with with the OP i was all set to pre order the Desire HD until i saw it had a smaller battery, HTC claim the new CPU etc requires a lot less power but i`ll hold on until people tell us what its like in the real world.

Well I like it for the SIZE...... and comes with FROYOOo.... The specs and the initial benchmarks tell the CPU is faster and the GPU is lil bit faster than the Galaxy S. We will wait and see.

after my Touch HD i got the HD2 and it is HUGE, didnt feel right in my hand at all. sent it back and got a desire instead, so im not thinking i will like the desire HD

i know , btw i didnt complain with about the desire z cou haha , but what bugs me is that ok the new cpu might consume less, but take advantage of that an include the same battery as before to get BETTER battery life instead of trying to maintain the same crappy battery life

Yes, you didn't complain about the CPU. What I was trying to say is that you're complaining about a piece of hardware based on specs, just like how others were complaining about the 800mhz CPU previously.
My point is to just wait for the reviews. It could be that the battery life will last you a day and a half with heavy use. If that's the case, then there's no point in HTC slapping on a larger battery.

My opinion is battery life is the next big hurdle to overcome in terms of smartphones and I have to say I agree with the comments made along the lines of, where the battery is concerned, bigger is better.
It would be nice to go away for a few days without having to add to clean socks, skids and toilet bag, a mobile phone charger lol

These smart phones are mini computers ... and as such it's not suprising that you have to plug it in all the time ...
Look at the ATOM CPU... smaller CPU was ment for netbooks...
We have an evan smaller CPU .. ment for our " phones"

I agree with the comments and being an ex-user of HD2 which uses the same battery, the battery life really sucks as it will only last half a day when you have a lot of calls or sms.
What's the point of having a good specs smartphone but the battery cannot even last with such lithium ion, 1230mah battery since the size of the phone is so big?
In terms of sound and camera quality, HTC is still not good at these area no doubt they are in the smart phone market for many years than other manufacturers but their technology is still not as good.
Even if the firmware support is good but there is a limit with the hardware they have.

I'm a desire owner, personally I think the HD is just too big,hence for a second phone, I have the x10 mini pro,perfect for making all my calls and texts , whilst I use my desire for all surfing needs.....
Desire white does look soooo sexy though!

I completely agree with you. Keeping the same battery + Better efficiency = Incredible battery life. I don't see why they would want to make it the same or "around" the same as the other handsets ??

What i care about battery, most stupidest and annoying design flaw is PUT ONLY 512mb rom to phone. Only ~40mb is left for all applications, mail cache, facebook & twitter & so on work memory (most of rom is used for android&sense&so on basic phone installation that you cannot modify without root). When free memory drops to 16mb, low memory warning is displayed and after that you cannot install any application, get updates and gmail sync is not working. so between 40mb and 16mb is 24mb cap available to use. Way too little!

Yea unfortunately, I find that to take advantage of android to its absolute fullest, you have to root.

I have to counter your experience of the hd2 batt time. I easely cram over 15 hours from my hd2 - even if I run android.
I agree though that the 'out of the box' batt time is to low on most smartphones - but then again, most people doesn't seem to bother - iphone for example is terrible on batt time.

I was expecting a lot more improvements from Desire HD versus the Desire.
Like:
- Higher resolution of the screen. It's 4.3 but the same resolution as the Desire, so you will end up with bigger pixels.
- Front facing camera. Facetime like experience is kinda girlie thingy, but actually ended up wanting this for example when you are on a long trip and you want to see your family.
- A faster processor - why not 1.2GHz?
- A kick stand, like the HTC Evo. Ended up wanting one of those while trying to watch some episodes of Friends on the plane. I had to hold the phone all the time - kinda frustrating.
At the end since it does not have higher specs compared to the Desire and since I swap my HD2, first because of Android, second because of the huge brick that I had to carry around, so I'm sticking with the Desire 1st gen.

why does everything has to be 4.3 inchs, I would love to see a better screen then an iphone 4G, and a tegra 2 Chip be awesome.

Think I'll lay off the Desire HD and Desire Z for now. There's not much noticeable improvement from our Desires. I'll wait for HTC's next big announcement

Hello everyone
I am using my HTC One v for about a week and the battery drains quite fast
I don't play any heavy games or use too much apps
I turn off the wi-fi when I don't use it and the screen is on automatic brightness
the battery drains even in sleep mode
and I would like to know the best way to charge the phone
I've read several forums and somwhere (I don't remember where) I've read that li-ion battery needs some time to become the full potential
Is this true?
and if it is does anyone know how much time it needs?
by the way the phone is not rooted

Like 3 or 4 % every 8 minutes

That's sad man really.......tweak the settings....if u r New then...please note that battery savers don't work...And go to the task manager and switch off the energy draining apps...like fb and remove auto sync...it saves a lot of battery...i tweaked my settings more i get a ful day of battery...with heavy gaming..note i have a un rooted device

[Q] HTC One X vs SGS3 Quadrant Score

I recently got my AT&T SGS3. I'm so disapointed by the service, but that's another topic.
My wife has an HTC One X. I installed Quadrant on both devices: the One X had a score of 5600-ish and my SGS3 had one of 4600--ish. What gives?!
My SGS3 is rooted, I'm running Launcher Pro, and have installed Google Now. Other than that, I'm running (way) more apps: FB, Twitter, etc. She runs pretty bare-bones. Could this be impacting the score?

clear running apps from both phones and run again. My One X and SGS III are within a few points of each other. However, don't get hung up on quadrant scores. They're pretty meaningless. The only thing that matters is how you feel like the phone is operating.

I did a couple of things: Killed LauncherPro and ran the stock TouchWiz. Also made sure I killed all apps. The score is significantly lower now. See attached.
The reason for running the benchmark was because I was complaining about the (1 day) battery life on my phone, and my wife says she goes two to three days without charging. So I was going to show her how much better my phone was. Imagine my dissapointment when not only did I demonstrate to her that my phone is much slower, but that her battery life is much much better.
The reality is, the phone is feeling sluggish, and I can't figure out why. Her screen seems to be better, battery life better, service (w/ Sprint vs. my AT&T) better, and performance better.
@gunnyman: Since you have both phones, I'd love to hear how you compare the two. At this point, I'm thinking of ditching my SGS3 and just getting the same phone she has.

That score tells me there's probably something wrong with your phone, or some app has a rogue process that is killing both performance and battery life.
Comparing the One X to the SGS III is very difficult. both have their plusses and minuses.
The screen on the One X is hands down the nicest one available today.
However, AT&T/HTC have locked it down to the point where even an iPhone is easier to hack.
Also the lack of removable storage was a dealbreaker for me.

How is the battery life on your two phones?
Also, any suggestions on how to track down the issue re something being wrong or a rogue process?

Well I sold the One X last week but Battery life is only SLIGHTLY better on it than on the sgs III I get through the day and have about 20-30% battery left before I put it on the charger. I'm a very heavy user. I see about 4 hrs of screen time.
When comparing battery life that's what matters. On your wife's phone how much screen on time does she have before she has to charge it up?
My wife has an HTC inspire which she has to charge every two days. However she uses her phone much less than I use mine.
As for tracking down what's happening with the phone, get better battery stats from the play store. It will track wake locks, which prevent the phone from going into deep sleep.
Install the program and check it at the end of the day and you'll get a very good idea about what is using the battery.

General consensus is that quadrant scores and benchmark scores mean nothing. If you want to compare try launching apps on both phones or just switching phones for a few days.

I wouldn't worry, there's little things you can change that wouldn't effect real world performance but would buff quadrant by 1000 points... If your going to test try Antutu, it is the most accurate Imo but I still wouldn't worry to much what it says. I've seen my gsiii score anywhere from 4000 to 9500 in Antutu depending on apps open, current rom/kernel, run time, battery temp etc.

Out of curiosity, I just installed and ran Quadrant on my i747M (Telus) running the leaked Bell Jelly Bean firmware. Before running the benchmark, I went into the Task Manager and killed all running apps and freed memory. My score was 5906.
If you're running Samsung firmware, make sure you don't have the Power Saving toggle turned on.

One my One X I generally get way better battery life than with my S3. Never bothered to run any quadrant scores, but I'm sure the general consensus is that the One X has a little better battery life.
I also play with the S3 more than the One X so that may explain my battery difference.

Well one major thing I seen is that your lte isn't there which means your going to be considerably slow reboot that's what I had to do last night as I was getting spoty lte service last night. Can also boot into stock recovery and clear your cache out also

I had the one x its lags ibplaces the s3 doesnt. I loved the build quality but yeah no ways its faster than a s3

The HOX has worse battery life. I just took mine back for an S3 and the S3 is getting two-thirds longer life with identical usage. I also had a locked One X, so I couldn't even try some of the tweaks resulting in better life. I'm running auto-brightness and wifi is always on now with my S3, and previously with the One X I had wifi off whenever the screen was off and the screen was turned down to 30% brightness.
The difference was more than I expected, and considering the spare batteries I've got in the mail - an option the One X doesn't have - I'm very pleased with my switch. I'm sure the extra playing on your S3 is the difference.

Seems like you tried too many things to make an already perfect phone into too perfect and somewhere in the path something really got weird and that could be one of the reason you are seeing those differences between HOX and Galaxy S3. Also, you said your wife's HOX lasts almost 2 days on single charge. Now the question is, did you try to mimic your wife usage of HOX on your GS3? That way at least you'll get a better idea, what she's doing with her phone that it lasts for 2 days or vice-versa. Please don't take my opinion in any other way. If you are talking about quadrant score, I have attached mine below. It's running stock UCALH9 with stock launcher and most of the bloatware disabled. The only thing different is that I'm rooted. Other than that it's bone stock.
Edit: Forgot to mention that my phone lasts all day with 4 hours of screen time.

CM10 seems to produce lower scores than Touchwiz roms.

now i wanna know what i must do for battery?
this phone is amazing i pay about 1,115$ in Turkey
i dont wanna root it cause i buy my phone 2 days ago so dont wanna lose my guarentee
and Core Control app running but i cant shut off or on core's its still working on 4x core
and my wifi works fine but my modem sucks...
really i need some comments from One X users

For the battery, not much you can do could try getting an App such as Juice defender but alot of the time they chew more battery than they save.
For your router, buy a new one?
For a quicker browser experience I would try Opera

Congratulation, although I don't consider Nokia as a bad brand and actually I fell Nokia is more like a RIM and focused towards business users.
About your wifi, if the signal is consistent than perhaps like you said, it's your router fault.
Also, check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579392 (You better start from last pages).
Also, you need to be aware roots app won't work without it. For the core controlling wait Jelly beans it seems HTC had a similar app already bundled with it.

1115$ = 2000 Turkish Lira and its very much. Smartphones at turkey is almost twice as expensive as usa or uk(thanks to taxes). As a turkish person I always buy smartphones from non-gsm and trustworthy places:good:

For the battery, there are some simple thing you can do; but first you have to clarify what you mean by "what to do with the battery"?
Do you wanna treat it well to have a long lasting battery over months/years, or do you want to use it economically so that you can have a longer battery life for every re-charge.
The first one is easy. Never let it shut down due to no power, always re-charge before %10; and charge it more frequently during the day, not draining it all and recharging back to %100.
The second one is tweaky and after years, I've lost my faith since the time wasted to learn and use that battery saving stuff and also the brain damage, is not worth it. totally my own opinion.
Just try to use Wi-Fi is you're at home or at work for long periods, swtich to 2G during those times, lower the screen brightness as much as you can and shut down vibration where possible.
One thing though, as the word spread about HTC OneX+ arriving, most of the sellers have reduced the price for One X, around 1600TL (which is roughly $880). Did you but it from 2000 TL recently? If yes, that should better be bought on an agreement with Turkcell, if not then you paid a little more =)

Agree with all the battery advice above. This is good information.
Would also add to steer clear of task killers/ managers. Your phone will manage apps itself (though I know a lot of people think it is a bit aggressive on the one x). If you are constantly going in to shut down apps, your battery life will actually take a hit. Just leave it to settle down and do its thing.

Armenian here Speak turkish fluently, Parents from istambul also.
I have two HOX's both international, One is in repair, my backup though is wonderful when it comes to battery life, I also agree those battery savers, and task managers really dont do anything in my opinion, its more trouble then its worth. My HOX thats in repair didnt do very well with battery, its rooted and all, but battery really sucked, but when I get it back I'm going to do a bit of digging. My backup is amazing, currently 14 hours and still have 63% battery life, and I have really done nothing with the brightness or anything like that. The battery will really depend on your usage. If your going to play alot of games expect the battery to drain rather quickly especially with 4 cores. I dont play many games really, and heavily mainly talk, text, and play games maybe 3 or 4 times a month. From what I've seen, the battery doesnt take too much of a hit until you go past roughly 15 mins of playing an intense game, at which point the cores start to heat up and the constant screen being on which drains the battery quicker.
Also I would suggest dont use too many apps that sync in the background, thats another battery killer. And as great as live wallpaper might be, thats another one that drains it. If you use data as someone said try not to and use the wifi, I dont use data ever and have shut it down and just use wifi.
But based on my two Hox's I have to say I think build quality of the phone has a big part to play in the battery life, but I am going to do more testing on this once I get back my other phone from repair.

This, I would have done exactly that if I was to buy a hox at this time. Though I got mine a few weeks before they announced the hox+ and now I am stuck with a 2 year contract with t-mobile. 56,- euros a month and all I get is shítty internet and no connection around my school. Yay :victory:

after nokia E-71 this phone amazing... i can do anything i can imagine... its like little PC with more functions
brose speed amazing... its goint to be heat when i use but its not annoying... i installed samsung's whistle sound for Notifications
now planning install few games and enjoy the Tegra 3
funniest thing i have some people trying compare their iphone 4 or 4s with my phone... :laugh:

Battery life on android is way below the performance on symbian. But you have much more flexibility and apps on android then symbian.

You remind me the good old time with my Nokia phones (big like a brick) that could last 1 week with one single charge :angel:

Killing apps to "free RAM" (why do you need it free?!?) and preserving battery are two mutually exclusive things. My advice is to stay away from any automated task managers and accept the fact that the only way to preserve battery is to use your phone less.
BTW you could've come to Bulgaria to buy the phone - it would've cost you much less

HTC one x battery life

Hi I've just recently decided to swap my xperia ray for a second hand HTC one x and unfortunately the battery life is horrid, under 4 hours and the battery is below half. 3g is on 24/7 and I didn't browse the internet for even a second , only text and call and I can't believe it, seriously considering taking this back unless somebody can convince me otherwise. All I use is the internet and calls and texts, and if it can't even handle those , then how am I going to be able to use the internet ..

All I use is the internet and calls and texts, and if it can't even handle those , then how am I going to be able to use the internet ..

are u using a custom rom ...? if not then say which base it is...3.14 oder 2.17 ...

You might try searching the forum, there are LOTs of battery related threads.
Install BetterBatteryStats (search here for it and how to use it), and check wakelocks and partial wakelocks, should tell you what is preventing the phone from entering deep sleep.

i like the battery life of my phone very much but also think, when you are using a custom rom, the rom and the kernel need to settle and i think, this take a time.. try one and give it 1-2 days, until you see the real battery draining

Came from Xperia arc myself, but wasn't expecting tremendous battery life, tbh. That said, there's virtually no drain in screen off on any stock based rom, so it evens out. Haven't tried aokp, cm10 or miui due to the pretty horrific battery life on the arc with them.

mine hox have nearly 1 year, but no better or worse battery performance. max 1 day :crying:

the battery life of the htc one x is an enigma to me (no other word can do justice to how much confusion it's causing)....I understand everyone uses their phone differently but the battery life shouldn't be all over the place as it is. My battery is lasting between 24 and 48 hours regularly with normal use i.e. normal everyday use on my one x, calls texts, camera, finding a place on maps while lost etc etc

I understand a lot of the problems are being caused by the phone not going into deep sleep. One of the ones I pinned it down to was if you go into Maps and check the location settings through there...i've turned them all off (and i still get correct google now information).
If someone wants to try that and then let us know what its like then that'd help everyone.

well not quite sure what you're doing with your phone - in that image, your mobile signal is only on for about half of the total time? did you have it in airplane mode or something?
my battery is pretty terrible - actually shocking the past few days. I can't even get through a full work day without it being down to <30%, which is only 9 hours or so. I've had power saver turned on all the time, too. I use it a bit for texts during the day and that's about it - no heavy data use. so I have no idea what's sapping it so heavily. it's quite bizarre. even if I try to micro-manage my data by turning it on only when I need it, I still get down to 40%.
this is on a stock ROM by the way. considering changing to a lighter weight custom ROM to see if that helps, as this is just ridiculous!

idk if this is normal or not cause its new. also im coming from 2 hr battery drain on g2x so idk what is normal nowadays

actuallyi just glanced at ur screen shot and for u it might be the mobile radio. It seems like ur signal is spotty for most of the time. this drains battery like no other when trying to find a good signal this goes with wifi too

HOX's battery live was terrible at first. (ICS & Old kernel)
Now it seems that it has reached its max capability. It saves the day, but it would be great, if the battery had been 2100 mah. :angel:

I actually don't know what happened then since i had gone to sleep when the mobile network decided to go off... But i haven't turned on airplane mode ever

How much was your screen on time tho? I could just leave my phone doing nothing and have over 1day battery.
@op you could try the battery calibration. Charge phone till green light, once fully charged unplug and switch off the phone and charge again till green light now switch on and use phone.
You should now have better battery.

Calibration doesn't do nothing and certainly not gonna give you better battery life.
