Going into my settings, then, sound, then notification, i can't find songs that are on my phone. What am i doing wrong?

settings, -sound,- notification,- then Android system. Ringtones you've made should be located under there. However when making ringtones how you save em is what they can be used for, meaning once you make a tone and if you save it as ringtone it won't show up, has to be saved under notification ringtone.

Try handcent. Worked on my epic 4g. Or try using whatever app u used to dl ringtones and set it via that app.

Android separates out your media and your notifications/alarms/ringtones so that way your notifications aren't cluttered with 1000 songs and your songs aren't cluttered with ringtones. If you want to use a specific song as a notification, go into a file manager and on your internal sd (not external) follow this path:
media>audio>notifications
and put your song in that folder. If it doesn't exist, create it. This way Android will put that song in with your list of notification sounds. Same goes for alarms and ringtones:
media>audio>alarms
media>audio>ringtones

Using your stock music player, find the song, select menu>set as .... and make your choice ....
Also .... there's an app that is as old as Android on the market that you can use to trim and set ringtones .... ringdroid ..... get it!
When I set my default notification for some reason when I turn off my phone or restart it the notification sound changes to what I changed it from. I have a Samsung Galaxy S8

Ringdroid is a good app in the Market for making your own ringtones. You can just use music on your SDcard to make em.

On my SD card I have a folder named 'ringtones', 'notifications' and 'alarms'. I'm guessing you know what I put in there lol. Whatever I put in those folders shows up when selecting ringtones or notifications, alarms, etc.

Because you are in the main contacts screen. You need to go to a SPECIFIC contact to be able to assign a SPECIFIC ringtone.
If you're just trying to change your ringtone for everyone, you can go to settings from the app drawer

Is there an app to change notification sounds to apps that only use the default notification sound?
Zedge you can go online and make your own and use the app to get what you made on your phone

Thanks for the suggestions. I checked out both of the apps above, but neither can do what I'm looking for...
For example... Say I'm using hey tell.. It has sound notifications when I get a message. But the notification is the system default and you can't change it in the app. I'm looking for something that will if it even exists? I don't want the same sustem notification for like 20 different apps
Actually in the new update heytell added the ability to change the notification sound. But the same situation applies for many apps...
With Zedge you should get a popup saying Zedge notification or android system I have jarvis from iron man saying you have a message sir for my text and master I have mail for you as my Gmail notification and I have different sounds for all my contacts

Tried to post in the relevant thread but didn't realize I need 10 posts. What I would like to know is how do i set separate tones for sms and notifications? I'm sure I was able to in previous versions/roms. If somebody could repost this in the jelly time thread would be much appreciated.

You probably need to go into the settings of the SMS application you use. If that doesn't solve anything try using GO SMS from the store. It's free and it's a speedy sms app that lets you customize a lot. You can have your own sms notif separate from the system.
mount your phone as a drive and you will see foldrrs - ringtones --- notifications ----- drop your sounds in them -- unmount restart then wander in sound settings
There is nothing in the settings menu of jelly time.. So by the sounds of it a messaging app is my only option

mount your sdcard to show folders - did it this aft on JT12
menu - sys settings - device - sound - ringtone [select] - default notification [select]

figured it out, had to assign sms its own ring time through the settings menu of the actaul message interface. Can you tell me the difference between "JellyBean - JELLYTIME for DHD/Inspire4g" (which I am currently using) and "UnOfficial AOKP JellyBean Nightlies"??
About the jellytime rom i amnot trying to complain or affend rb :goodi know he works very hard and has a family to take care of but people on the the development say that it is super buttery smooth but there is still some work to be done to the smoothness of it i cant wait till he gets triple buffering completely working

Get a file explorer app and put them in the ringtone folder on the SD card. Or you can use a ringtone app like rings extended. It's a good ringtone picker app.
👆that right there, I use ES File Explorer.
