http://www.androidcentral.com/bunch...rm=120306-49-cent+apps+in+the+Android+Market!
Tons of apps in Android Market (now being rebranded to "Google Play") for just $0.49. Titles like: SwiftKey, HomeRun Battle 3D, SoundHound, Shadowgun, World of Goo, NFL Flick Quarterback, Osmos HD, Quell Reflect, Dead Space, and many others.
I already picked up Shadowgun, World of Goo, and Dead Space all for $0.49 each! What a killer deal. Almost bought Shadowgun for $4.99 the last couple days.
Happy shopping! Support Android devs.

Thanks. Just picked up Dead Space! Not sure about the whole "Google Play" thing though.

Thanks for the info.
I'm really hating the whole Google Play thing though. It makes sense to spearate books, videos and music from apps but Market was cool for apps alone.
Play Store sounds like its trying too hard if you ask me. Market was a cool name, so was the old logo... this whole branding is lame as junk.

I'm not feeling it either. "Google Play" doesn't sound like a unifying platform. It sounds like a specific service. I would have greatly preferred "Google Market". I understand why they're trying to make it less of an "Android" thing and more of a Google property, but I think Play was a bad choice. Using a verb to describe a store doesn't make sense. You don't play books. And you don't play all apps either (unless you consider entering calendar events "play").
me: "Hey check out this app!"
them: "where did you get it?"
me: "from Google Play."
them:
me: ?

Just wanted to share a couple of ways I've been using to LEGITIMATELY get Free apps.
Amazon Apppstore, "Free app of the day"
http://www.amazon.com/mobile-apps/b?ie=UTF8&node=2350149011
* Mostly crap, but there are gems every so often (sometimes REALLY good gems, like OfficeSuite Pro)
GetJar
http://m.getjar.com
* Everything there is free, but in particular they have a Gold Star section where there's some really decent gems (like Samurai II, Beautiful Widgets and Backbreaker to name a few).
** One bit of caution though, the Getjar app runs 2 services even if you quit the app. I don't know exactly what they do, but as soon as I'm done with the app I also go through and kill those services.
Please feel free to share any other apps, tools and such (legit ones) that you use.
I would like the Windows Phone community to help me compile a list of popular applications (apps) that are available on iOS and Android, and the status of these apps on Windows Marketplace (free, paid and price, or not available). Also, an alternative app if one is missing would be helpful.

There is no native File Explorer; users have to use Zune Software.
There are loads of 3rd party Google map apps. My favourites are Gmaps and Bingle Maps.

There's an Xbox Live game called Spider Jack that is similar to Cut the Rope. Costs $2.99. Also you can play a HTML5 browser version of CTR for free, by going to http://www.cuttherope.ie (not sure if it works on WP7 or not)
You might want to narrow the list to top apps or most wanted apps.
Microsoft stated they would bring the top apps by the 2nd quarter. I think I read that.

I don't believe nicksti asked for advice on how to run the thread.
Please provide a link where Microsoft stated they would bring the top apps. Clearly they are not in control of third party software. There is no need for you to try to create trouble here. If you can not find a credible link stating that, please edit your post and remove the comment. It is clearly an attempt by you to discredit Microsoft and Windows Phone 7 with false information.

It does work although it takes a little to load and you also have to go into options and change to click to cut because drag will scroll you left and right. I've played it before and was surprized to see it in a post here.

I had put popular apps which I figured would mean most downloaded or top apps. So I bolded it now for emphasis. You have a good point though, because I would not want this to be a wall of any and every app.

We will have to give him this one. Top 25 iOS and Android apps are expected to hit WP in first half of the year. I will ads links too. Im on my phone and waiting in a queue to pay for my shopping but soon adding the link.

My apologies for sounding rude or making a suggestion. You can clearly name thousands of missing apps, that's why i suggested naming most wanted. Sorry if that creates trouble.
I think I read that information on this site.
Anyway I can't post here since I'm not allowed.

Posting here to say that you are not allowed to post here? I do welcome the suggestion. Beyond the missing apps, I could name thousands of app that are present as well, but I do agree the exercise is to make a list of the most popular/downloaded/desireable apps.
This really all came about after reading posts with people complaining about missing features and apps. I wanted to get a sense of what is missing from an app perspective so people can be more informed about making a Windows Phone purchase.
Honestly, from a mass market consumption standpoint, the only thing I see missing right now is Skype (and that is coming).
Any more popular apps that I am missing?
Are we not counting the third party apps/ clients that do the same thing as the official apps?
If so, probably the title should say 'official apps' comparison?

Looked at another way, the addition to Skype to the Windows Phone apps market will help Microsoft "bridge the gap in top apps" between Windows Phone and the competition, and the overall goal is to ensure that all "top 25 apps" (from both iOS and Android) will be available on Windows Phone before the end of the first half of 2012. And Microsoft is also investing tens of millions of dollars over three years to promote competitors of key apps that will never, for whatever reason, be ported to Windows Phone. Pandora is cited as an example, alarmingly.

overall goal vs to be released.
I just looked at my iPhone for the top 25 apps (each costs $0.99 on the iPhone except camera plus, which is $1.99):
1. Where's my Water
2. Scrabble with Friends
3. Fruit Ninja - WP ($2.99)
4. Words with Friends
5. Angry Birds - WP ($2.99)
6. NFL Kicker
7. Angry Birds Seasons
8. Paper Monsters
9. Stickman Cliff Diving
10. Cut the Rope
11. Camera+
12. WhatsApp Messenger - WP (FREE)
13. Angry birds Rio
14. Bejeweled - WP (Bejeweled Live $4.99)
15. Doodle Jump - WP ($2.99)
16. Free Music Download Pro Plus - WP (Free Music downloader FREE)
17. Battery Boost
18. The Game of Life
19. Evi
20. TETRIS - WP (by $4.99 - Tetris7 FREE)
21. Pimp Your Screen
22. Reel Steel
23. NBA JAM by EA SPORTS
24. Color Texting for iMessages
25. Tiny Wings
Pandora and Skype don't even make the list.
My guess it that Microsoft uses a different top 25 list.
In any case, I marked the ones that are available on Windows Phone and included the price in the Windows Phone Marketplace.
The iPhone App Store does let you list the top and top free for each category as well.
Guessing the Social Networking category would be the most important, then maybe music.

There is another article somewhere talking about Pandora won't even be bothered to officially come to WP until Apollo. So Pandora - we definitely are using the clients even after Apollo sadly. But my feeling based on current rumours is - Skype app around Tango and Skype integration in Apollo to say the least!
Pimp my screen, Battery Boost, Tiny Wings, Color Texting for iMessages (obviously) are iOS only correct?
I am trying to compile a list that would be cross-platform. Would not want to include Android only or iOS only software.

Correct, I think. I am not sure what Tiny Wings is, so I'm not sure on that one.
So Trolli, the gummy candy makers have been having a promotion with Wal-Mart where if you buy any two trolli products (gummy bears, worms etc) you get a free EA Android game.
So I tried it first with my tablet (Googe I/O Galaxy Tab) and it said none of the games were compatible. Tried it with my HOX and two came up! So off I went and downloaded Dead Space and Spymouse (the other games offerred are: Bejeweled 2®, Peggle™, Need for Speed™, SimCity™). Sounds great so far, except every time I start either of the apps, they crash.
It literally opens, shows the EA logo, gets ready to load and then closes. Also, because it doesn't link to the play store, but rather just downloads the APK now that I have sold that HOX (AT&T) and got an international one I can't get them back.
Is there a way to link them to the play store so I can get updates? Any idea why they keep crashing?
Thinking about moving to WP... I remember seeing somewhere a web site where you punch in what Android apps you use and it spits out WP equivalent. Am I imagining stuff?
I remember something like that a while back, but I'm not sure if its still around or updated.
With that said, the WP market is growing every day, and there's some cross-platform apps and some unique apps (especially games).
If you list some of the apps you're interested in, we can put what we use or if the same app is available.
The ones I miss most are my banking apps (no apps for Chase, ETrade, or Mint.com yet). I know Chase is being worked on, but I'm not sure about the other two.
There's also no Words with Friends or Draw Something, which are both popular on Android and iPhone, but they're in the works and should be coming soon too. There's also no Scrabble by EA. For Angry Birds, we only have the original game, not any of the later versions.
There's quite a few good XBox Live games though, which I like how its all tied in with my XBox and achievements.
With all that said, if you're wanting to change to WP, I would wait for WP8 devices to come out.
Search for "E*Trade" and scroll through the matches. The app was just released.

Yeah, I downloaded it the day after it came out. Unfortunately its a BIG disappointment from their banking side. You can't do anything with checking/savings accounts other than see the total balance. You can see transaction history, no transferring of money, no mobile check deposit, no bill pay, etc.
IMO, it was a rushed job, especially when compared to the Android and iOS versions.
Nokia released a migration tool for pc called Welcome Home, if you have an Android/iOS device you need to sync with it and it will give a list with the apps of your current phone for WP, if it cannot find the correct app it will give you an alternative.

I use and hate the Yahoo sports app.
At first glance it's great & easy to use.
But the news section sucks.
Every bit of news is just a one paragraph click-bait to click open an external site and 75% of the time the external links are super slow to load or don't load anything at all.
I tried the ESPN app and didn't like it much either.
Wanna keep up to date on NBA, NFL, NCAA and MMA action.
The Score. Easily destroys Yahoo's app and everything about ESPN is awful so I'm not surprised the app is bad.
Another vote for the score.
Nothing beats The Score. ESPN app is too unwieldy.
I use theScore as well, been using for past three years or so. Just their new releases have messed up with long character club names, though that's only for football I have noticed. No idea about those sports though, but they were there when I installed the app, so could try it.
Thanks guys. I downloaded theScore and it's almost perfect!
A big issue I'm having is how to follow favorite teams, etc.
The app just presents me with local teams at the top.
Then I have to scroll through hundreds of other teams from various leagues or search by name.
Does anyone know how to make it only show you NFL teams so you can choose NFL. Then only show NBA teams so you can choose NBA, etc. etc.

I do recall that being dumb/non-intuitive. I'm pretty sure there was a way to just search by name. I don't recall and I cannot replicate since you only do that at startup. I remember it took forever to find the Cubs, and I'm wondering to myself, "how does it suggest all these teams to me but not the Cubs?" Note: I live in the suburbs of Chicago, so this is just preposterous. I like the idea of suggesting certain teams for convenience (based on location) but it needs some better algorithms, and should make finding other teams simpler.

One shortcut was that I checked the scores of the teams I wish to follow, then from those individual matchups, I clicked the stars for the teams I wanted. However, you can also go into Settings, Alerts to set up your teams.
CBS Sports Fantasy is pretty good.

This Pixel is the first voice response engine that gets my voice requests right 99.9% of the time. No more "what's the latest Bronco's score" being translated as "what's the latest bongos door" or some such other nonsense.
If you haven't tried it, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. It works for all sorts of requests, not just sports scores.
I just use Google assistant now. It's learned my teams and the phone shows the appropriate sport symbol in the top left when a game is on.(hockey sticks etc) I get very reliable updates, recaps, highlights, upcoming games,

"The Athleti" for Android
I have to saw I absolutely love this app and what these guys are doing. Option 1 is to read the same old recycled articles on the major websites for free, or Option 2 is to subscribe to The Athletic and read carefully researched articles that are actually worth your time. I can't say enough good things about The Athletic and I'm fine paying for content if it's new, unique, and interesting. Keep up the great work guys!!
