This is a small easy fix that I use whenever I am trying to conserve my battery on the go. It is very simple I just disable my mobile network/ 3G Data under wireless settings. Using 3G/4G data consumes alot of the battery for some reason I've noticed more drain on 3G. This helps me alot with saving my battery for a day on heavy usage and I can still receive calls and text msgs. Then just use wifi when you browse or simply turn your Data back on. Hope it helps
You'd be better off with an app like "easy battery saver" which turns off your mobile data when your screen is off but still allows you to use the device when you need to without constantly toggling.

i use juice defender ultimate and setcpu to undervolt and set the cpu to 1ghz max. I havent noticed a single hitch, so its worth it for me. Also using Blazer 4.1. i never actually run my battery down since I charge overnight for the next day, but if I were to i could easily get 35+ hours on medium use.
I do that whenever I am in an area with poor signal or roaming. A Sprint phone will eat up battery hunting for 3g signal

That's for sure. I get pretty bad battery life..

whats your screen time? that makes the biggest difference. I went 35 hours and only went down to 51% once, but that was only with about an hour of screen time.
Best jump in battery life I've had it's flashing a modem from the ICS leaks.

I think turning mobile data off at all would be for only extreme cases where I was going to be away from a charger for a crazy amount of time. For me, the use of widgets (google reader, apw facebook and twitter) allow me to turn on my phone, flip to a few home screens, and turn it back off. Screen time for me is always incredibly low, which keeps my battery life high.
I do this when I'm running low on battery with no charging option

Juice Defender set on defaults gives me from 1.60 to 2.07 times normal battery life. I use the default Balanced settings and forget about it.
Works great!!

For those of you unfamiliar, JuiceDefender is a tool which toggles WiFi and Data when the phone is off, and turns on WiFi only when in a location where there's an accessible network. This software more than doubled my battery life on my Bionic, and so it was one of the first things installed on my phone.
I've noticed JuiceDefender has been sucking a fair amount of battery on ICS/GNex (usually 4% in the battery graph), so today, for an experiment, I uninstalled it for the day, and I've noticed that I've gotten better battery life than I ever have with the phone, across a mix of WiFi areas and 3G.
Has anybody else had this experience, or was this just an odd one-off situation? Could there have been a change in ICS which diminishes the need or hurts the usefulness of it?
I've had JuiceDefender off too and for me I seem to get slightly worse battery without JuiceDefender. Without JuiceDefender on I tend to get a steeper battery drain during idle times compared to leaving wifi and 3G on. I think the usefulness of it depends a lot on your usage habit and signal quality as well. I usually get spotty signals so that is probably why JD helps noticeably.
Interestingly though if you take a look at the battery graph in settings, every time JD toggles your data on it seems to force the phone into awake state, but just leaving data on would keep the phone in an idle state most of the time. That's definitely something that is making JD not as good as if should be.

Totally agree with this.
That's odd, as for me, the phone is mostly in my pocket all day. Maybe it's because I've got a 15 minute synchronization time for most things?
Day three without JD, still getting twice the battery life that I was getting with it on. Delightful.
I don't like any Kind of app that claims IT saves battery life because it just doesn't work! Fact is that its just another apps that sucks resources out of your phone!

Going to have to disagree and while there are many variables juicedefender can offer big saves depending on your usage. I have had 1.6x increase as stated in the app and confirmed by the extra hours with the incredible. I am waiting to try it with the GN until I have a idea what battery life is without it. First week is useless anyways with a new device as you check it more often and the OS is still refining the battery meter.
Its all related to how you use your phone. Disabling Wifi, Data, BT and so on automatically, managing autosync saves battery. The app itself sucks almost no battery power - if i can believe my monitoring app (SystemPanel 1.1.1) which i use unfrequently to control app behaviour on my Galaxy S1 (with ICS and before that, on GB). Im taking up this "Old" posting because i have battery issues on ICS - almost half of the lifetime after upgrading from GB. But i think its because im now more playing around with the phone, no app is sucking more power than usual.
I noticed that JD cant control networking (via apn change) anymore, can somebody confirm that? If i turn the display on, my 3G/HSDPA connection is there - under GB it took 3-5 seconds until i had internet connectivity back.
Don't use any type of battery monitor, widget or notification.
I was getting good battery life but had a few weird cases of reboots and where the phone would just shutdown and then need battery pull to get back up.
Since I stopped using any type of battery monitor/widget/notification my battery life is much much better (same usage pattern/apps) and I have not had a single reboot or issue.
I just wanted to share this for people having problems. Worth a shot.

There are a number of things that affect this. Most importantly, use CPU spy to check how much time your phone spends at each frequency, or rather in deep sleep. Some monitors in certain settings will keep the phone awake, draining battery.

Well the screen was on for 1 hour and 50 minutes (at max brightness) according to battery stats, so I'm not using it THAT much but the point is that a battery widget doesn't seem to have a big impact on battery life.
I also noticed that if I stop constantly closing applications after using them (by swiping on the ICS task switcher), my battery lasts a little longer

However, when I do not have the androidOS wake bug, if my phone is on wifi I lose ~3-7% overnight, which is good IMO
I went to bed last night with 96% and left everything on and syncing and woke up to 88% so I think I'm content with letting it do it's thing. That was my first night with it so I expect it only to get better.

I run the stock GSM battery, it lasts all day so I have no complaints.
If I had the samsung spare battery w/ charger for business trips i'd be set for those flights and airport waits.
This app is great! It says I get 1.91x more than if I weren't to have it. I notice that after school (which I watch Netflix and play Modern Combat for about 3 hours and then 4 hours of standby) and come home with 70%+. There is barely any standby drain, like less than 1%. The awake bar is rarely on unless the screen on is on. The only complaint I have is that my Wifi Calling is going wack! I try calling and it would disconnect mid-dial tone. Then my wifi would flicker on and off and try to reconnect with the wifi calling.

i've heard wonderful things about that app...what's ur problems that occured to you?
I've got a lot going on my phone that contributes to good battery life (undervolted, dim screen, SetCPU profile to underclock when screen is off) so it is hard for me to say if Juice Defender is doing a hell of a lot for me. Saturday I went 16 hours on battery with moderate use, about 15 minutes of playing a game, and hitting 4G about half of that time and I had 52% battery when I went to bed. I would think at that point it is safe to safe Juice Defender isn't hurting anything. I am running Ultimate Juice (the paid version) and my guess is that it really is helping save some battery. The whole idea of JD killing my data connection when my screen is off seems like a good idea to me.

I got it for my mom and she has a lot of standby time. So I'm guessing juice defender saves more battery as the standby time goes up because it reduces battery usage significantly when screen isn't on.

I dont like the fact that when i turn my phone back on I see my twitter app has not updated for 2 hours despite juice defender enabling data every 5 mins.
^ Just have it enable data for longer, or have force sync instead of ping.
I get AMAZING battery life when I'm on wifi but terrible battery when I'm not. I send/receive about 300 texts a day easily and so I have the screen on frequently. I also use web a lot. On wifi my battery will last about 20-24 hours probably. Currently I'm at 67% on 6 hours. Without wifi, I will get about 8-10 hours with the same kind of usage.
I just want to know why there is such a large discrepancy. Im in NYC so my signal is pretty strong.
I used to think it was the screen that used up so much of my battery life but now I'm thinking it's the radio.
I'm on Juggernaut. If anyone has a suggestion I'm all for it. Should I try a different kernel? If so, which one?

So when you use your phone, do you not expect the battery life to go down? It can't stay at 100% after everything your doing..
I recommend Juice Defender. It turns off data when your screen is off. Sounds like you're getting a lot of screen off drain.

I do expect it to go down. Hence I thought it was normal until I noticed a huge difference in battery between being on 4g v. wifi and getting double the battery life while doing the same things.
I'm just wondering why the 4g takes that much more than my wifi and if a kernel would be an issue

The simplest explanation that I can come up with is twofold.
First 4G requires a MIMO type of connection, even on T-Mobile. So for the really high speed connection it actually uses more than 1 antenna and powering more than one antenna takes up more power.
The second part is that 4G connections are not as prevalent as 3G connections so your phone has to search for the closest 4G network more often to maintain the fastest connection and the network searching takes up even more data then than the MIMO style connection the phone uses for 4G.
The combination of these two will drain your battery much faster than a single antenna connection to your home wi-fi that does not have to pass as many syn/ack packets to maintain the connection as the 4G network and thus uses less energy.
(MIMO stands for multiple in, multiple out which means it uses more than one antenna for incoming and outgoing transmissions)
(Wirless-N is MIMO based as well but does need to use as many "discovery or syn/ack packets" to maintain the connection)
I second juice defender. You can configure it to turn off data while the screen is off which will not effect your ability to receive phone calls or text messages.

How long is school? What ROM/Kernel, if any, are you running? Is this the stock battery?
I am losing about 1-2%/hour while I sleep but I feel I get acceptable battery life. I am running Affinity with default Franco r249 kernel. I also have an 2100 mAh battery. Using WiFi almost the whole time this is my most battery life. I would recommend an extended battery and connecting to the school's WiFi if it's available.

What does your phone say is using your battery? Try clean flashing the ROM, or maybe a different ROM, and see if that helps. How often are apps set to pull data? Look at your battery stats after school and see where it's leaking from.

Do you leave your GPS on? Turn of data if you know your not going to be using it for a while.

There is nothing on (gps-data-etc.) i have only calling and texting enabled.
If you have a weak signal inside the building, and mobile network enabled for receiving calls, your phone will expend a lot of battery just trying to constantly find and reconnect to the mobile network. May even get warm. This is especially true if you also have automatic data-sync enabled and your phone is trying to sync a lot of apps over a weak signal. You could test this out by leaving your phone in airplane mode for a few hours. If you get no battery drain then, it's probably a weak signal causing the problem.
Above post is True. When I was in school in a full concrete building I drained heavely. At 10 hours I drained 2 full batteries with my S2.
Try turning in the airplane mode and you'll see a big diffrence. Turn it off When u have a break and are outside.
Btw 30% battery usage on 7 hours isnt bad..

Even with the phone completely unused and idle and the screen off, if there is a weak signal the radio will be working overtime trying to stay connected to the mobile network, causing battery drain.
I don't know what happened with the 20120914 CM10 nightly, but I've been getting incredible battery life since flashing it (dirty flashed from M1).
Where I usually got something about 2h 50min of screen on time, I'm now getting 4h+. This is with 3G data, GPS, BT (no connected devices 99% of the time), WIFI, automatic backlight and screen rotation on, CPU at 1350 MHz and GPU at 384 MHz. Good times :good:
