Hello,
I have an HTC EVO 4g that I had flashed to Metro. I had it working with text/1x web and phone calls for a few days. However, today I decided to try and get 3G working on the phone again to no avail. I'm not sure exactly what I did but whenever I place a call it now just goes to a 'If you would like to make a collect call' message. It sounds like maybe it's connecting to sprint again.
I've spent about 20 hours researching and haven't been able to fix it.
I've followed the steps on the following pages and it hasn't fixed anything. I've also flashed 3 different Metro PRLS and its still not making calls or connecting to the network. Anyone have an idea? thanks a lot!

ok make sure you min and mdn are in the right spot and if you did try that 3g thing then maybe you still have you phone in hdr mode change that back to automatic if none of that works then try prl 3025 if not then dial *2284 or *228 and update prl that should fix the prl and the min, mdn if none of that works pm me ill help you out !
Thanks a lot for the reply I really appreciate it. I tried the PRL update and i also did the *228 option, which connected me and programmed the PRL successfully. I'm still stuck on the to make a collect call message though. I had the phone moved over from Sprint and I think it had a different ph number in the MSID settings. I think i may have changed that MSID or the MIN to my current ph number? Should i take it back to Metro for a re-flash?
thx!
Got it all figured out. The MSID wasn't correct. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get 3G on this EVO. I am located in OC. Have you had any luck with it? 1X is terrible!
Yea i can get 3g working on stock 4.67 rom thats it w mms but not on custom roms what part of oc im in santa ana? Plust 3g here isnt as reliable as you think
Sent from my OG Evo
Thanks, Yeah i've heard metro 3g isn't that reliable around here. I'm in Costa Mesa by Harbor and Newport blvd. Should I just install the stock sprint Rom? 4.67?
Oh i know where thats at i used to work in that area im actually a mechanic lol if you woulg like or nightlys stock 4.67 rom they would both work
Sent from my OG Evo
Oooh nice. I may actually need some work done on my 2003 Hyundai Tiburon so I'll contact you if you do that sort of thing.
Do you happen to have a link to the nightlys 4.67 rom ?
also, is there a guide I can use to configure the 3G and MMS settings?
thanks again!
Well i just played w the 3g things and they have tge same speed in 3g or 1x so it dont matter
This is it stock not nightly

my phone has been rooted for 1 year now and so far have had no problems what so ever, but just recently i flashed synergy rom and all hell broke loose. my phones 4g works fine and so does wifi but my 3G would not start, it would turn on for about 1 second then go straight to 1x.
things i have tried......
update my profile and prl...nothing
##data##, menu, restore....nothing
pulled the battery like about 155752 times....nothing
nandroid restore to a time where it was working...thing
flashed like 6 different roms and still nothing works.
flashed new radios and still a no go..
i tried to do the whole metro pcs flash but then changed my mind not to go to metro as its network is crapy. i went to qpst and cdma and reverted everything back to how it was, so i dont see why it would mess up my 3G
i have no idea what else to do, any help will be greatly appreciated.
If it is 1x, that shows the true data strength. You may have excellent connection, but poor data in that area, or the server is just temporarily overloaded. It'll correct itself. Previously, sense roms would always show 3G even if it was a 1x connection, but most developers put in that fix to show the true strength, like in aosp.
Thanks for the reply. the thing is that my wife has an evo as well and shes right next to me and gets perfect 3g data connections, and i was getting error 67 upon trying to update prl and profile. as soon as i did the reset on the ##data## it went away, and now it wont even connect to 1x at all...man its so frustrating, ive searched and search but nothing.
same thing has happened to me, tried chatting 3 times, and called tech support once, so far no data.
try this...i did not work for me at all but it might work for you...good luck buddy you'll need it lol...this crap is frustrating as hell.

ive had similar problems... just flashed a rom,, 3g working but hotspot isnt.... i need help too
Sense ROM's show 3G to identify a data connection, while the bars are actually displaying the voice connection. I believe aosp ROM's strickly display the data speed since voice reception is generally good. This may just be a placebo affect and you think you have poor 3G. I would suggest running a speed test on both ROM's (your current one and the one you found "good" data speeds on) to ensure that it's not the ROM itself.

I've got the same exact issue, but I've been on Synergy for a while now. As of last night though, no 3g... My France's unrooted EVO works just fine, and I've been in a few different areas, so I know it's not the tower. I've done the same things the OP has done and still nothing... Is it possible for the Rom to fry out the 3g??

Ok ive got mines working. However its still a little sketchy but atleast 3g doesnt go away. After going tjrough the steps in my last post, I did ##786# and resetted everything. Then reflashed my rom and walah!
This worked for me.
Step 1: Open dial pad , ##3282# enter
Step 2: Select "Edit Mode", then input your MSL number
Step 3: Select "Data Profile", then press menu button
Step 4: Select "Restore", then press ok. Should reboot on it's own. If not reboot.
You said you did something similar but figured it wouldn't hurt.
I did that, but didnt work for me. However every phone is different and every little bit helps.

hello, i am new to this, but have a little experience flashing routers. anyhow i flashed my epic 4g to boost last night and the the texting and calls work fine, but i have no 3g. i was wondering if there is a easy step that i can do to get the 3g working. also i was wondering if i shut my epic off can i turn my doner phone (sanyo incognito) back on? i see instructions on here how to do it ,but i already flashed my phone and am not sure if i can turn the incognito back on. i know that i cant have them both on at the same time. thanks in advance!!
This could have gone as a question here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=891077
But pretty much, turn off your epic, turn back on your sanyo, make sure you have internet connection on your sanyo by checking a webpage using 3g, not wifi, then follow those instructions.
If those instructions don't work, you definitely typed one of the passwords wrong. Do it again, preferably using copy and paste and make sure you're putting the right passwords into the right places.
i figured it out!! i was putting the 20 0's in for the boost AAA key.... the boost AAA key is shorter than the sprint one. the only problem i'm having now is my 3g speed is real slow. do you know of any tweaks to speed it up a little? i'm going to root my phone tomorrow.. thanks for the help and sorry this post was in the wrong spot...
Sounds like you might have to update your prl (preferred roaming list), It basically tells your phone what towers to connect to. Download the latest prl, mine is 11115. (And I have sweet service )
Basically using Qpst service programming, go to the roam tab and put your downloaded ".prl" file where you see an area to insert a file and click "write to phone" That most likely should help out, if not then it may have to do with the service in your area. I Hope that help you out.
Here's the link for the prl I use (11115)- http://team-nocturnal.com/showthread.php?41-Collection-of-PRL-s
epic 4g on boost -- only 3g is working
I loaded the 11115 prl file and my 3g speed is super fast now!! It created another problem thou. I cannot make or receive calls now. Also I sent myself a text from my other phone and it came thru, but next to the message it said "failed"???...
When I try to make a call it says "error 16 switch 172" then tries to redirect me to customer service...
Can I use this 11115 prl with my phone flashed to boost? Or is it for sprint only?
I would love to just use one phone, but I guess if I have to I can use another phone (service) to make calls and texts and get on the pay as you go plan and use my epic for the internet only, for $.50 a day..
Thanks for all the help guys. It is really appreciated!!
I just went through that with my buddy's phone cause he was bouncing back and forth between the Incog and Evo he uses. Just let the Epic bring you to customer service, give them your number, name and pin, and they'll do the rest. Its a new "security feature". Quick and easy. Keep the battery OUT of your other phone from now on. Just to be safe.
Thank you first of all in advance to everyone with aide to this issue...
Here are my current details
e4g
Rom:ciui
Radio 2.15.00.12.19

Kernel: [email protected] #1
this issue started on monday night. When i attempt to call certain LAN lines the number is busy at all times, when i call certain cell lines or 800 the call goes thru. I tried to resolve the issue by flashing diffrent roms from aosp to sense, cm7, cleanrom, miui, ciui you get the idea... also i flashed alternate kernels for aops and sense properly by clearing the caches before flashing.. also flashed previous prl zips... still today the issue remains... lastly i called sprint tier 1 support for the status on the towers around my area, the network was fine.. any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You again.
When on sense 1.0 rom, get msl and dial ##3282# then go to evdo and make sure it's set to automatic. After doing the ##3282# click on edit

Hey,
Flash to a sense rom update your data profile and prl that fixed my issue, but you might want to call sprint and see if there is an outage in your area I know sprint all the time has the same tower by my house go out and it will say network busy because so many people are using the only working tower and yeah -_- ( I love sprint....) but try calling them and waiting it out a few days if that other fix doesnt work!
If I helped please hit the thanks button!
Stevo
I've had my network disconnecting completely for the last 4 days called sprint tower was supposedly fine blah blah well tower is with in walking distance of my house so I walked by there and there's a repair truck sitting there so i waved the tech over and he's like we're adding
network vision to this tower so I have to keep rebooting the server
We are legion, for we are many
happened with me a month ago called sprint...they told me problem with there tower...i used the roaming coverage for almost 12 hours and it counted from my 500 minutes which i dont used any way.

Anyone know how to pull the PRL out of the Galaxy Nexus? I tried the *#*#8778#*#* that worked with the NS4G & QPST, but no dice. It would be nice to be able to use something like the 11115 PRL that allowed 3g roaming on older/other phones. I tend to get stuck in areas that have zero Sprint coverage for work a lot of times.
EDIT: *#*#3424#*#* Will put you in the right menu, I'm still working on figuring out how to get QPST to recognize the device though.
EDIT #2: From what I've been reading, the Galaxy Nexus will not work with QPST because it is not Qualcomm compliant...need to find VIA/Spirent PST to be able to do this? Anyone have any input regarding this?
I found a way to change the PRL. I'm not 100% sure that it actually changed the PRL and not just the number that shows in the menu though. The idea came from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639839
So using Better Cut I followed the first step he outlined, JUST THE ONE ABOUT THE PRL THOUGH. Phone went through and did its reboot came back up.
At first it showed unknown as the PRL, MIN & My Phone Number. I went into *#*#yourmsl#*#* checked under edit and my info was correct, checked under *#*#3282#*#* and my username was correct in the data profile. Went back into about phone and everything had repopulated correctly.
Now where I am sitting its still showing me as connected to a 1xrtt network, but that very well could be because I'm in the middle of WY at the moment. I should be going into SLC tomorrow and I will try to force it to roam while I am there and see what happens.
Seems the post has been edited and no longer has instructions.
1.Download Better Cut (Google it)
2.Install on your phone however you see fit. I just downloaded the apk to my phone and installed from there.
3.Copy your chosen PRL to the root of your SD card and rename to Test (so instead of 11115.prl, it will show up as Test.prl)
4.Create a shortcut using Better Cut, go "Activity", "PRL Write"
5. Go back to where the shortcut is and click it. The phone will reboot and shortly after the PRL should show up in the "About Phone" section of your settings menu.
My friend just got a sprint nexus and he needs to force roam on it. His palm pre had this tweak working.
I've been using corporate PRL's on every phone I've had with Sprint and up until this phone, it has been very easy to do. From what I've read none of the traditional methods work because this phone does not use a Qualcomm chipset for the radio, it is using a VIA chipset. I will report back tomorrow if this actually changed the PRL or if it just changed the displayed numbers. It's hard to say in WY whether or not 3g service is actually available and from what I can tell I am rather far from the tower I am connected to.

The PRL should auto adjust as soon as you change regions. If its not changing and you're experiencing bad reception....etc...contact Sprint cause chances are you aren't alone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Actually none of the phone's I have used with Sprint in the past few years have changed as I moved around the country. The point in all of this is not about bad reception really, just that when roaming certain PRL's you will get 3g roaming as opposed to the regular 1x.

PRL's CAN be region specific. However, some networks (Sprint included) Only have 2 or 3 different PRL's (Virgin mobile's...etc..) So whatever PRL you have now should be fine unless Sprint lights up new CDMA networks or adds more spectrum. If you have an old PRL (dunno what revision it is, I'm on VZW) update it with ##873283#. Any connection issues you're having likely aren't the PRL and are probably more related to carrier issues or the notorious Galaxy Nexus Data Drops that almost every version of the phone has had.
Edit: You could always try the Sprint Partners PRL's...dunno if it will work though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Smokeey, I don't doubt that they can be region specific. But again, the only point in me doing this is for times when I am actually roaming due to the places I go for work. Ex: I have been in Wyoming for 5 weeks now, Sprint has Zero coverage here. So again it isn't about connection issues. It's about EVDO vs 1xRtt while roaming. The only time I use Roam Control or similar functions are to test the ability to get 3g while roaming.
Aside from that, I do not think this is the best way to go about changing the PRL manually on this phone, but for now it will do.
So .... with the 11115 PRL I was only getting 1x in WY, should have been 3g. Today I got into Salt Lake where there is Sprint coverage and I was still roaming, with the phone and Roam Control set to Automatic. I restored a backup of the stock ROM, refreshed profile, updated PRL and was back on Sprint 3g. Then went back and forced the manual update of the PRL back to 11115, tried switching to roam only mode and the phone stayed connected to Sprints network. By the time I got back into WY and was roaming again, it did properly switch to a roaming partners system and I still had 3g coverage. So it seems that everytime you write the PRL with Better Cut, you could get a different result. FOR ME this is fine, as long as it works when I am actually roaming.
I'm sure down the road a VIA compatible PST and associated drivers will turn up so that this can be done in a similar fashion to the way it was accomplished with QPST on other phones. But for now I am content.
I've linked to your post in my thread for how to update PRL manually. Your post was first.. so it's only right
and for completeness... here is my thread detailing how to use VIA tools the same way we used to use Qualcomm tools. I've linked back to you in the second post which details PRL writing. It looks like even with VIA chipsets.. we aren't so locked out after all.

Looks good, I'll give it a shot soon. Hopefully it will work in a VM, stuck with 64 bit on my laptop....

PRL write not listed in any cut or better cut
I can't find "PRL write" in either Any Cut under activities or Better Cut(v3.3) under all activities. I have Test.prl in /sdcard/. I'm running a vzw gnex on CM9.1. I've tried changing it's name to TEST.prl. I've tried several different prl files.
Anyone one have any advice.

Roam control works for you?
Do we know of another way to change the MSL?
I prefer mine to be 000000, but with QPST not reading it I'm stuck.
I could try and dig up a CDMA workshop, but most of those are virus ridden, and i'm not sure it would connect to it either...

Any hints on what could cause this?

Hello xda. I need some help with my GS3 and LTE. I rooted my phone on day one and have moved from rom to rom. I live in the SF Ba. Area and they are turning LTE on. Using sensorly I found some LTE areas, but my phone won't connect. I have tried different roms: CM10, Paranoidandroid, Ktoonsez, and now Liquid. I started with radio LJ9 and am now on LJ7.
I hope someone can give me a few ideas on what to try next. I heard updating the PRL can help, but I don't know how to do that.
Sorry if I did a poor job of searching, I am on my tablet, on 3G, and I couldn't find much
To update your profile and prl (prl is for roaming and doesn't effect lte).
menu -> settings (scroll to the bottom) -> system updates -> update profile / update prl
I'd odin stock JB or ICS and test LTE that way.
Though all of the ROMs you listed should have perfectly working LTE.
good luck
I flashed back to a Odex stock, and updated my profile and prl (just incase). I still don't seem to get any LTE.

On CM10 (and all AOKP ROMs based on it) eHRPD authentication is not working right yet. I think they're close to a fix, but for right now, if you're in an area with a weak LTE signal; you're gonna have some problems
