Hello... I have an r800at with generic r800i UK firmware on it... I have been using it rooted with this firmware for some time... but I wanted to install a custom kernel so I decided to unlock my bootloader...
Well... I have been having quite a time trying to get this to work... but I finally got everything working using s1tool... or so I thought...
Here is a quick run through on what I did... I downloaded flashtool, s1tool, and installed pc companion...
I checked to see if pc companion recognized my phone... and it did with no problems...
I installed all the Xperia Play ADB, fastboot, and flashmode drivers which came with flashtool...
I then went into s1tool and clicked "IDENTIFY" and received the following output:

It is to my understanding that since the line "5/28/2012 3:58:43 AM RUNNING S1_EROM VER "R9A021"" has a capital R... this means that my bootloader was locked at this point...
So I went onto prepare unlock the bootloader by shutting off my phone, removing the battery, and getting ready for the test point bootloader unlocking...
I went into s1tool again... and clicked on "Patch SEMCBoot"... I got the following output:

When I hold down the search button and plug my phone in... at first nothing happens... then the Sony Ericsson logo appears and the blue LED light turns on at the exact same time... but it changes to an orange LED and shows the battery charging screen a second later... When I try to flash a kernel is just sits on "waiting for device"... and my computer detects my phone in debugging mode...
OK... still not solved... but here is what I've done since...
I realized that the reason the LED was turning blue at all was because of the tweaked out version of clockworkmod I had installed... It wasn't official clockworkmod... it was the one you could flash onto the xperia play without unlocking the bootloaded... using the "CWM Auto-Instaler"(not a typo... actually spelled that way)...
Anyways... I noticed that in order to get into CWM you also had to hold down the search button... so I figured maybe it was causing a conflict... well after messing around for a bit... i decided just to go back to the generic UK firmware and go from there...
So I flashed the UK firmware again using flashtool... I checked if CWM was still there... it was not...
SO... I went back to s1tool and tried patching again... Yet again... it seemed like a complete success... the capital "R" became a lower case "r" and there were no errors in s1tool...
Good to go??? I wish... still NOTHING... when I hold down the search button and plug my phone in... it just does the same thing it woulda done if I wasn't holding down anything at all... at first nothing... then after a short delay, the sony ericsson logo pops up and then the battery charging screen... and orange LED...
Very frustrating...
Well... since nobody has given me any advice... I guess I am going to continue trying to troubleshoot on my own...
The thought jumped in my head that MAYBE... I'm having an issue because I have an AT&T Xperia Play... aka R800at... and the UK firmware is for the R800i... so, currently... I am really slowly (20KB/s) downloading the original R800at firmware... gonna try flashing that and then unlocking the bootloader from there...
IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS... I WOULD HIGHLY APPRECIATE THEM... I have definitely spent more than a full 48 hours just trying to unlock the bootloader for my xperia play... I'm not talking about trying to get it to work for 2 days in a row... i am talking about total hours spent...
Have you tried using different USB ports or cables?

I just tried both my USB ports with 3 different cables... with no luck unfortunately...
Not a bad idea though... I'm also prob gonna try on my friend's pc tomorrow as well...
thanks
Were the ports on the same PCI? Because on my PC one PCI works and one doesn't. Well, that was until the one that did work broke.

I thought you held down "back" when plugging in for fastboot?
have you tried going into fastboot with flashtool?
When you connect your phone in fastboot mode, does your S1tool driver turn into SEMCflashtool? Or anything like that (it's been a while since I used Windows).

I just checked and the are on the same PCI Bus... but like I said... I have a laptop with 2 USB ports... and thats it... I mean... I guess there is some possibility that the USB ports are somehow broken in a way that they work 100% for everything except letting me boot my xperia play into fastboot... but that would be a bit weird...
I am still planning on testing with another PC... but just haven't gotten a chance to yet...
thanks for the advice

I think it's supposed to the Zeus driver... I installed it during the testpoint unlock... but I still can't get into fastboot...
Update...
OK... so here is an update on what I've done...
I flashed the original AT&T R800at firmware back onto my phone... then used Doomlord's unrooting script to unroot my phone...
I then used s1tools to do a testpoint bootloader unlock... again... no errors... seems like everything should have worked... the capital "R" was now a lower case "r" when I click IDENTIFY on s1tool... so my bootloader should be unlocked... right? WRONG... tried plugging the phone in while holding search with no positive results...
OK... maybe it needs to be rooted... rooted using zergRush exploit in flashtool... success... OK... check bootloader... still not working...
Well at this point... I decided I needed the internet again... and currently...tethering my phone is the only internet I have... SO... since you can't tether with AT&T firmware... I flashed the generic UK R800i firmware back onto it... tried to get into fastboot... just in case it miraculously started working... and then went back on here...
SO... I am pretty much in the same position as before... phone is rooted, bootloader seems like it should be unlocked, using generic UK R800i firmware... and am able to tether...
DAMN IT... what's the point of having a phone with a gamepad... if it can't even run the games that are optimized for it without lagging!!! I need that custom kernel... curse you AT&T and Sony
Man! Why are you using s1tool??? You need to use omnius or setool, yo will never get it unlocked with s1tool.
After all if youre not able to unlock it, just use a ROM like NXT or jokawild, or simply clean up your stock rom and tweak it
When i had mine with locked boot i never had problems with games (only with muphen64 emu).

s1tool is supposed to be a crippled version of SEtool specifically for a 2011 Xperia phones... and most of all it's FREE... I absolutely REFUSE to buy into the pyramid scheme whoever makes omnius and setool have setup...
SOMEONE WITH THE CAPABILITIES... PLEASE... get the source code from SEtool and make a new FREE app from it... I thought that's what s1tool was supposed to be... but apparently it doesn't work like it's supposed to...
setool is total BS... selling credits in bundles of no less than 60... so that someone else could break them down and sell them to others... I don't know if you guys have ever seen how pyramid schemes operate... but thats generally exactly how they work...
causing continuous clutter on all android forums... BOYCOTT PAID UNLOCK PROGRAMS UNLESS THEY ARE DIRECTLY SUPPORTING SOMEONE YOU KNOW ISN'T A WANKER... I would totally pay for an app that Doomlord made for instance... but some pyramid scheme... are you kidding me? How is this not being regulated on ANY forums???
One of the reasons I am on XDA developers is because I refuse to pay ANYONE to unlock ANY portion of my phone... I want to figure it out and do it myself... if I wanted to pay someone to unlock my bootloader or anything else... I would probably be searching craigslist... not developer forums....

OK... sorry bout my little rant... I just really don't like omnius or setool...
Does anyone know if there is ANY other way to flash a custom kernel... a friend of mine was telling me there was some exploit for his device which made it so it looked like it was using the original kernel... but actually pointed to a different file (custom kernel) upon boot...
I haven't read anything bout that with the play though... I just really wanna be able to overclock my phone...
I followed the following video step by step and was able to unlock my bootloader successfully. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRH3pC7MhEA
After that I flashed the Gin2ICS rom by Vocal1992 with Doomkernel v14. Its amazing.
I can understand your problem because I faced the same problem. While going from Gin2ICS 1.6.9 to 1.7 I flashed just the -67 baseband and I was having the same problem (led turning blue for 1-2 seconds then back to orange color and battery charging notification).
After that I flashed the R800i 4.0.2.A.0.58 EnhancedV2 using flashtool 0.8.5. After that I flashed the baseband -67 again via flashtool. Then I was able to get into fastboot successfully and completed the process. If you want to try custom rom then you can try this. It might solve your problem. Just wanted to share my experience.

Thanks... I will give it a shot... i am actually using Gin2ICS already... but i just flashed the 58v2enhanced... i haven't tried flashing the -67 baseband yet... I will let you know if it works...
hi , have you managed to solve this problem cause i have the same one exactly.
thanks
if u go to ketpad and type: *#*#7378423#*#* (*#*#service#*#*) and then service info > configuration, bootloader unlock allowed: is it YES or NO?
Hello guys; I had Xperia Arc branded by Orange in Poland.
I know they locking, blocking and doing a lot of stupid locks on phones and i heard only testpoint will solve problem with bootloader.
I upgrade firmware to ICS (my xperia arc 2011 series device didn't get official ICS) and rooted.
Now used s1tool and installed drivers before i unlocked my bootloader.
I got small "r" the it was unlocked.

I had installed CWM with RecoverX, but i can't install Cyanogen mod 10.1 without fastboot.
you wont get fastboot with that way
you van only flash ftf kernels with that way
i flashed kernel ftf with holding down Back button and plug in cable to PC.
Bu holding down Menu button should get fastboot mode.

What is your phone's manufacturing date? It is under the battery, shown in the form of [2 numbers]W[2 numbers], for example 12W25. Please post it here.

Hello,
I, about 2 or 3 years ago hard bricked my xperia play.
Since then it has been laying around in my drawer.
I decided to give fixing it another try since I could really need it right now so i gave it a shot.
The red led flashes like 3 times when charging it and sometimes the green led flashes.
When I connect it to my laptop it is only recognized as unknown device, however when i connect the testpoints when plugging it in it is recognized QHSUSB_DLOAD.
Anybody got an idea how to fix it?
So when i try to patch with s1tool it gives me this message:

MAYBE YOU SHOULD UNLOCK PHONE BY SETOOL2 ?
Elapsed:32 secs.
In my device manager it is recognized as SEMC flash device now.
does blu light turn on when connected to pc while holding search button?
does green light turn on when connected to pc while holding back button?
if yes i would try to flash stock ftf from flashtools, or try repair with seus or pcc, if you havn't already..so, how did you brick it? bad flashing?
Yea the blue and green light do flash.
I tried flashing tft with flashtool but i got the ERROR - Processing of loader.sin finished with errors.
After trying some stuff with testpoint and s1tool it now even vibrates when pressing the power button.
Ye i think i did something wrong when flashing a rom last time.
Im actually pretty sure that i have a locked bootloader and that it is probably damaged now.
And ye i already tried both pcc and seus but seus doesnt seem to recognize the phone.
If it makes you feel better, my Xperia play is bricked for a while as well and has a similar problem to yours. If i find a solution i'll try and keep you updated. Good luck
