I don't Know if I wanna switch from FB21 to FB27 because my 3g speeds on MIJJz ICS blend V1.3 are very good but I heard from QBking77 that the speeds might be better on the FB21.
Well, it depends on whether you want to try it or not. You can always change back if it's not good, how well the modem does depends on your device, and the area you live in.

3G speeds mostly depend on your modem and somewhat the kernel, not so much the rom. I've been using FB27 since it came out and it's definitely more stable then FB21, and GPS works for me on FB27, it didn't work on FB21 (may not work on every device)
thanks I just installed the FB27 modem before I got to school ill try it out

I was hoping to get some feedback babout which people think are best for battery life, signal strength, GPS, etc. I was hooked on EL13 modem then gave EL26 a try and it seemed to improve my 4g a bit. Then I went to EL29 and speed seemed great but battery was meh...however now it seems to be settling in nicely. Also, any thoughts about lockscreen mod and toggle mod using more battery?

EL29/EL29
So far battery life I've not had much of a problem and signal for me atleast has been great. Put EL29 in while I was in Mi over the xmas break and noticed that the signal I got while I was there was actually a little better.
As for the lock/toggle mods After redoing my phone to a new rom I've not reinstalled them and pretty much kept things stock. Didn't really notice any issues with widgetlocker when I was using it though.
I'm using EL26 modem and kernel with unnamed rom. Here is my personal experience with the different kernel/modem combos:
EL13 - best battery life, decent data speeds, least smooth of he three, very stable
EL26 - avg battery life, fastest data speeds, smoother than EL13, avg stability (some lockups, camera sometimes doesn't work, etc)
EL29 - worst battery life, avg data speeds, but most consistent, very stable, GPS sleep issue (this is the only kernel I experienced GPS lock issues with)
Given the battery drain and GPS issues, i'm disappointed that EL29 is going to be he official Ota update. I hope someone tweaks the kernel for better battery life

EL13 on Calkulin's latest 2.8.1.. everything else untouched.
I've tried ek02 modem for a while and EL29 recently. Because I've mostly used 3g, ek02 modem gives me slightly less signal but substantially faster data speeds. EL29 is better signal but slower speeds. My favorite kernel is desperado 1.3 ek02. The test setup I'm running now is stock odex el29, rogue stock el29 kernel and ek02 modem with hotspot mod. The performance of this setup is good so far and battery is holding up well. I've been running this for 24 hours now. I don't have the discipline and the attention span to test every modem ATM. I also 0'd out the multimedia proxies and ports and set the 4g retries to 15 seconds and -110DB receive, which made a huge improvement in that area.
EL13 Modem & Kernal with unNamed rom has been the best setup so far for me. Great battery life and everything works
I think the EL26/29 kernels and modems have poor battery life. EL29 modem gives me best coverage, but the battery life sacrifice is annoying.
Currently I'm running EL26 modem, Desperado kernel, and Calk's 2.8.1 ROM
See there's 2 sets of toggle mods. Gtg's has the 4g toggle and only a,couple of others like flashlight and 2.7 has no CRT. The AIO toggles has more to customize plus the lockscreen mod. Calkulin's 2.7 with Minimal Black with gtg's toggles seemed solid (all EL26) almost as good as my strongsteve all EL13 setup. I am worried that the toggle customization and lockscreen options are taxing my battery but I have zero proof...its just a theory because more functions are running..hmmmm....decisions

I'm on Unnamed Rom, EL29 kernel and EL29 modem, with moderate use today i had a little over 12 hrs and i still had 52% battery.
maybe not the best but way better than some combos i've tried
I will have to concur
i am using EL26 / modem /Kernal on caluk 2.7
average battery 12 hours but fast 3g speed and rom
change to EL13 kernal /modem
17 hours but half the 3g speed and slower rom
so i am sticking with EL26/modem/kernal for now

Calks 2.8.1 with el29 modem and stock El13 kernal have been treating me nice. 1day 6 hrs with 3.5 hrs of screen time. And I still had 15% left

Calk's 2.8.1 EL29 all the way sofar for me has been a great setup. I consider myself a abuser so 10hrs with about 5hrs screen on time. I feel is purty good also strong data.
OH hey SAINT btw. HAPPY B DAY now go get yo party pants on.
EL13 modem has the best data for me. I did speed test with all the modems and EL13 & EL29 were at the top, with EL13 a little faster. EL29 kernel.
I was wondering if anyone can help me with picking out a good modem I'm on dk28 right now thanks
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I came from the dk28 build so I may be at your taste level.
The most stable build I am running right now is
the "old Marcusant ICS V4" with ei22 modem and the new samurai 3 kernel.
I added the gps fix and this phone runs awesome.
Better battery life, faster 3g, better bluetooth, gps works, etc.
it's like running the dk28 rom, but faster and better.
The old marcusant ics v4 thread is locked, but if you pm marcusant he may still have the download.

The newest is ussually the best but differs from device to device depending on your location etc. Ei22 is the latest but there are numerous such as ec05 ee03 ef02 eh17 eg22 the list goes on there's a sticky in development for modems to flash

Play with it.
I agree with Biggoron that it does differ from epic to epic, i found that my girlfriend likes the ei22 with legendary's rom.
She says its more to her taste and seems to run better on hers.
I always stick to released modems like EC05 and EI22. They work the best for me. Blew up too many leaked modems.
Can anyone tell me if I can run the LostKernel with Calkulin's new ICS ROM? My menu pops up when I'm in low signal areas so I'm hoping to use the LostKernel as a fix.
No only ics kernels can be run with ics roms ....and vice versa .....it won't boot
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
GB modems will work on ICS though. I found EL13 the best for me. But EL26 and EL29 are good too...
I'm just curious to know what modem do you run on your E4GT? To this date i run EL29, because i get the best DL/UP speed on average.
Been running the fc18 and it seems to work great. Only problems I have experienced are because things with ics are still in beta. I ran el29 up until I recently flashed fc18. I also had great up/dn with el29. Haven't speed tested fc18 yet...

FC18 currently on xplod SE ROM. Works good.
Also, fc18 on the Goodness v2.5. Seems best so far but it varies by phone/location

FC18 modem currently, fracking fantastic gps locks, in fact first time since I've owned that this phone has consistently locked throughout a whole day. In seconds. Every time. 6+ out of 6+ satellites.
Tentative opinion obviously. Tomorrow is a new day. ;-) but it seems like they got something right in this build, on the agps end anyway.
but 4G data seems not as strong as signal as FC15 perhaps. 3G works as expected.
Currently on Calkulins EL29.

EK02 saved my phone.
I was getting tired of GPS issues (among other issues) w/ a few other modems, but the combo of ek02 modem and kernel works wonders on my phone.
The battery life on fb 27's immaculate! Can't stay away now if I could get the speed of el29 I'd be perfect!
Tried all the modems and I think the EL29 works the best for me too.

Hmm, which kernel is this again?
FC18 rom/kernel with EL29 modem. FC18 modem was painfully slow so I had to switch back to EL29.

FC07 is what am running now.
FB 15

I'm running EG30, personally I like LOS... Nah, I'm running FC18, best yet for me in Cali.
Which modems are people prefering specifically in LA, California.

I liked EK02 & EL13 alot. I might go back to EK02. Running FD10 now, its doing ok.
FD05 seems to be the best ive ever tried. Consistent and quick gps locks . Decent 3G speeds and wifi strength. But im in Upstate NY , lol.
I'm using FD05 on GB, no hitches, in NOVA.
Another vote for FD05 for me too here in southern NJ. Consistently quick GPS locks compared to most other modems for me
