I was hoping to get some feedback babout which people think are best for battery life, signal strength, GPS, etc. I was hooked on EL13 modem then gave EL26 a try and it seemed to improve my 4g a bit. Then I went to EL29 and speed seemed great but battery was meh...however now it seems to be settling in nicely. Also, any thoughts about lockscreen mod and toggle mod using more battery?

EL29/EL29
So far battery life I've not had much of a problem and signal for me atleast has been great. Put EL29 in while I was in Mi over the xmas break and noticed that the signal I got while I was there was actually a little better.
As for the lock/toggle mods After redoing my phone to a new rom I've not reinstalled them and pretty much kept things stock. Didn't really notice any issues with widgetlocker when I was using it though.
I'm using EL26 modem and kernel with unnamed rom. Here is my personal experience with the different kernel/modem combos:
EL13 - best battery life, decent data speeds, least smooth of he three, very stable
EL26 - avg battery life, fastest data speeds, smoother than EL13, avg stability (some lockups, camera sometimes doesn't work, etc)
EL29 - worst battery life, avg data speeds, but most consistent, very stable, GPS sleep issue (this is the only kernel I experienced GPS lock issues with)
Given the battery drain and GPS issues, i'm disappointed that EL29 is going to be he official Ota update. I hope someone tweaks the kernel for better battery life

EL13 on Calkulin's latest 2.8.1.. everything else untouched.
I've tried ek02 modem for a while and EL29 recently. Because I've mostly used 3g, ek02 modem gives me slightly less signal but substantially faster data speeds. EL29 is better signal but slower speeds. My favorite kernel is desperado 1.3 ek02. The test setup I'm running now is stock odex el29, rogue stock el29 kernel and ek02 modem with hotspot mod. The performance of this setup is good so far and battery is holding up well. I've been running this for 24 hours now. I don't have the discipline and the attention span to test every modem ATM. I also 0'd out the multimedia proxies and ports and set the 4g retries to 15 seconds and -110DB receive, which made a huge improvement in that area.
EL13 Modem & Kernal with unNamed rom has been the best setup so far for me. Great battery life and everything works
I think the EL26/29 kernels and modems have poor battery life. EL29 modem gives me best coverage, but the battery life sacrifice is annoying.
Currently I'm running EL26 modem, Desperado kernel, and Calk's 2.8.1 ROM
See there's 2 sets of toggle mods. Gtg's has the 4g toggle and only a,couple of others like flashlight and 2.7 has no CRT. The AIO toggles has more to customize plus the lockscreen mod. Calkulin's 2.7 with Minimal Black with gtg's toggles seemed solid (all EL26) almost as good as my strongsteve all EL13 setup. I am worried that the toggle customization and lockscreen options are taxing my battery but I have zero proof...its just a theory because more functions are running..hmmmm....decisions

I'm on Unnamed Rom, EL29 kernel and EL29 modem, with moderate use today i had a little over 12 hrs and i still had 52% battery.
maybe not the best but way better than some combos i've tried
I will have to concur
i am using EL26 / modem /Kernal on caluk 2.7
average battery 12 hours but fast 3g speed and rom
change to EL13 kernal /modem
17 hours but half the 3g speed and slower rom
so i am sticking with EL26/modem/kernal for now

Calk's 2.8.1 EL29 all the way sofar for me has been a great setup. I consider myself a abuser so 10hrs with about 5hrs screen on time. I feel is purty good also strong data.
OH hey SAINT btw. HAPPY B DAY now go get yo party pants on.
EL13 modem has the best data for me. I did speed test with all the modems and EL13 & EL29 were at the top, with EL13 a little faster. EL29 kernel.

I'm running ek02 modem/el26 kernel/el26 rom (calk's) at the moment.
Out of the modems I've tried (all of them except el29), I'm pretty sure ek02 is the best. However, I haven't been able to narrow it down when it comes to the kernel & rom, what kind of results have you guys been getting? Specifically, with battery life. I feel like el26/el26 is decent but not as good as I could be getting.

Getting excellent performance and battery life with VeNuM VCS el29 Rom/kernel/modem. Gonna try on 800mhz after a few more battery cycles, should give me even better battery life. Still set at standard clock speed.
I got battery drain on el26 & el29. Running the ek02 modem with el13 kernel. Loving it.
Kernel should be matched to rom, right? If I go back to el13 I'll have to find an older rom for it.

EL13 based ROM (UnNamed) and EL26 modem and kernel is working great for me. I think anything EK02+ is basically the same though.

I like EL26 Rom and kernel (Calkulins 2.7) with EL26 modem. Good battery life and better data than EK02 for me. I flashed the EL29 modem on this setup and my battery life went downhill bigtime so I went back to EL26.
Running ek02 modem with el29 kernel & rom now. So far, so good.

5000+ Quadrant Score
I have found the best setup thus far for me.
Rom: Calkulins E4GT Rom (v2.8.1)
-ICS themed dialer, contacts, messaging.
Modem: EL29
Kernel: Team Rogue Desperado Kernel (1.3)
OC: 200 min - 1704 max (Unstable passed 1600 for me)
Set at:
-Max: 1350 MHz (mV)
-Min: 500 MHz
Conservative
Getting 5000+ quadrant scores with this setup and very good battery life with heavy usage throughout the day. Went an entire day without a single charge.
Absolutely no loss of signal issues.
I also have various scripts and background processes making things run smoother.
System CPU script
System Battery script
Superfreeze script (Defrost, Freeze)
My question is do different modems affect our battery life differently or not really?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Yes they do from my experience. They also effect your signal strength.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I'm aware what a modem is and that it affects signal and strength lol. Just wanted to know if they have effect on battery life. Thanks for the response!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Signal strength directly affects battery life, so that'll be a yes.
I flashed my modem back to EG30 a couple days ago because before ever experimenting, I got the best data speeds on EG30 Modem. So far it has been the same way since I've flashed back to it. I've been getting good signal strength majority of where I go. But my battery drains a little faster than it did on EK02. EL29 Modem also gave me unacceptable drainage.

Im currently experimenting with all modems on Blazer ROM 3.9 Im not done testing at the moment but If I had to pick the best modem w/ respect to battery life right now it would be the EL13. Im in Chicago BTW

EL13 always gave me good signal. But my data speeds took major slow down hit. I might test it though. I am also running Blazer Rom v3.9

I'm just curious to know what modem do you run on your E4GT? To this date i run EL29, because i get the best DL/UP speed on average.
Been running the fc18 and it seems to work great. Only problems I have experienced are because things with ics are still in beta. I ran el29 up until I recently flashed fc18. I also had great up/dn with el29. Haven't speed tested fc18 yet...

FC18 currently on xplod SE ROM. Works good.
Also, fc18 on the Goodness v2.5. Seems best so far but it varies by phone/location

FC18 modem currently, fracking fantastic gps locks, in fact first time since I've owned that this phone has consistently locked throughout a whole day. In seconds. Every time. 6+ out of 6+ satellites.
Tentative opinion obviously. Tomorrow is a new day. ;-) but it seems like they got something right in this build, on the agps end anyway.
but 4G data seems not as strong as signal as FC15 perhaps. 3G works as expected.
Currently on Calkulins EL29.

EK02 saved my phone.
I was getting tired of GPS issues (among other issues) w/ a few other modems, but the combo of ek02 modem and kernel works wonders on my phone.
The battery life on fb 27's immaculate! Can't stay away now if I could get the speed of el29 I'd be perfect!
Tried all the modems and I think the EL29 works the best for me too.

I'm on Caulkin EL29 rom
Modem: FC15
Kernel: Rogue Desperado
With great battery life.
Everyone will tell you different. Ive gotten great battery life with Calkulins GB roms. Though, alot of people will say Blazer. Its the ONLY ROM I run on my phone now.
I've used almost every single rom since gb.
The way I'm measuring the battery life is,
1. Calibrate battery whenever I flash the new rom.
2. I take a walk almost everyday about 4 miles (spent 1.5 hours). During the walk, I turn on the music player with speaker phone + 3g for lyrics download.
3. Measure the battery consumption just after returned to home
4. The result was very vary based on the roms (+modems)
5. So far, the best result I 've got is thru fd05 (agat's tFD05 + fd05modem/kernel)
6. Based on this calculation I would get about 20- 24 hours with my daily normal usage.

Ive tried Calkulins E4gt GB The battery was great but the performance was a little laggy. I would go for Blazer Rom. Super fast with a great battery
life.
Well My battery life was great with Calk's EL29 rom. Now that I am on Blazer, I get super fast performance but crappy battery. Is there anyway to get extended notification toggles on Calk's Rom??
I am running StrongSteve's Odexed blue just updated last night and I am getting really good battery life. I would have to say the 2 best roms out right now are Phantom Hackers Blazer ROM and Strong Steves Odexed blue. The Odexed blue does run smoother at least on my device than any rom out hands down. Blazer would have to come in as second. I was running blazer with gunslinger v1.41 and fd10 modem with amazing battery life but it was a bit laggy. Odexed blue I am running FD10 modem and stock el26 kernal and the battery life isnt quite as good as on the blazer setup but it runs a lot smoother!
I'd say blazer 4.1

Given the ics rings are horrible on battery what's the best GB ROM or should I stay on El13 unnamed ROM
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I'm rocking calukins 3.0 gb rom with the gunslinger 1.4.0 kernel. I've been changing up the modem with the new FD releases but for a while i used either EL13 EL29 or FC22 and with those three I was getting amazing battery life. Right now I'm running the same set up but with the FD05 modem and I'm getting a full day with 3 or more hours screen on time and it still has some juice when I plug it in at night. The GPS lock on FD05 can be funny so I'm going to be trying out FD10 and FD16 the next few days to see if the battery life is as good but better GPS lock. Speeds are amazing with the FD modems in my area, these latest modems are feeling very very solid! Good luck and happy flashing buddy

I'd definitely give this a try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449023
Was on it for a long time, but I'm now on the ICS ROM from the same developer.
It has a bunch of flashable add-ons/mods, already themed, includes the Lockscreen settings, great battery life and very stable.
UnNamed was my favorite and I didn't want to switch until I gave that ROM a try. Needless to say I loved it and couldn't go to anything else because it had everything I was looking for in a ROM.
Blazer is my favorite with the sherbert theme.
And of course calkulin's !
They're very similar though. I'm sticking with blazer 4.1 until OTA ICS

i was running Caulkin's E4GT 3.0 ever since it came out and I loved it. I just recently flashed tFD19_v0.1.0 Rooted. Odexed to check out the whole ICS realm and I kinda like it. I'm still getting used to the interface and it's still missing the hotspot services, but I've been managing with wifi tether. This rom runs pretty smooth so far and I haven't seen any random restarts or errors. with tFD16 I was getting random pauses and apps closing, but so far this rom is running nicely. I have not encountered the notification problem that other people were talking about and with the FD19 modem, my connections are really stable and fast. The new tweaks on tFD19 actually greatly increase the battery life from tFD16 and it is so much faster than tFD16. Also included in this rom is the ICS launcher to run the ICS theme AND the twlauncher if you find the ICS launcher too new and confusing.
for tFD19
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610494
I still recommend a NAND backup before trying this rom out and it flashes through the Rogue CWM nicely
My favorite roms at the moment are Blazer rom and UnOfficial ICS rom.
