[Q] cant update profile - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I live in an area with perfect 3g coverage yet im luck to get 3 solid bars of signal and download speeds never exceed 30kb/s. tried updating the PRL manually, no change. So then I tried to update profile but when I did i for an error no network connection message. I get this message regardless of whether im in wifi, 3g, or 4g. Is this a bug in the leaked ICS builds or is there something wrong with the phone?

No issue here, what build are you on?

Darkstar 1.0.2 (FB27), Same issue on FB21 as well though.

Try a different modem, I'd say kernel too but I'm assuming because we haven't gotten a repacked fb27 kernel yet your still on stock. I haven't had any issues with the FB leaks, occasionally I'd get an error message trying to update my profile and prl but i'd reboot, wait an hour then try again and it would update fine. I would try a different modem, since there isn't cwm yet for fb27 (unless your using fb21 kernel with a broken camera) you gonna have to flash a new modem through odin.

yeah im using fb21 kernel until pb27 gets repackaged. ill flash a diff model and report back.

Ya try that first man, because the FB21 rev2 break the camera, so it could be related to that too

Flashed FB15 modem. No change in data speed and still getting the "Error: Connection Error" when trying to update profile.

It's probably the kernel then man, flash the stock fb27 kernel through odin then try and post back

on it. brb

Stock fb27 kernel. same deal -_- maybe ill try reflashing but i remember having the same problem on fb21.

Strange stuff man. You've never had any errors on boot have you? Any failed flashes in Odin or accidently flashed a modem through the phone option in odin
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA

Nope, no boot errors. No accidental flashes. Maybe I'll odin back to EG30 and see if the problem persists.

Does your phone have a repaired esn? I never could update the profile or prl when I was running one. I always had to update the donor phone and then pull the info from it. Are you getting an error 67? What is your ping from speedtest? Usually 1X my pings will be 800-900 ms and 3G is under 300ms.
If your phone is legit, call Sprint tech support.
In my area, 3G is so bad the I hardly ever get over 100kbps and I have full bars.

Um, bought the phone legit from Best Buy. I called tech support this morning but they always got to the step where they tried to have me update profile which I cant do which is when I came here for help.
I'm in the process of Odining back to EG30. If its a problem there as well im going its going to make me think the phone is the problem and Im may look into getting a replacement. I want a white one anyway..

Just in case it wasn't obvious, update profile only works on Sprint's network. It doesn't work while roaming or over 4g.

Yeah, I'm not roaming and 4g is turned off. Thanks though.

I suggest you ODIN back to EL29 using the Full ODIN package in my signature. Then let the hands free activation (HFA) automatically run and update your phone. I suggest EL29 rather than EG30 or EK02 because your phone will try and download the EK02 and/or EL29 OTA updates wasting bandwidth and making your phone slow while it does so.
If HFA doesn't work, try update profile by hand. If that doesn't work, try ##786# reset from the dialer. Enter your MSL when it asks for code. To get your MSL, type
Code:
getprop ril.MSL
from adb shell

Ok will do. I re-flashed the fb21 kernel so I could make a backup of my current ROM real quick. Ill odin to EL29 once its done. Thanks for the suggestion.

Ok, so I'm back on EL29 and was able to updated profile and prl but download speed on 3g still only topped 40kb/s with 120 ping and 4 bars. I'm in a strong Sprint 3g area so I'm beginning to think there is something wrong with the 3g radio on this particular unit.

I doubt there is anything wrong with your radio with 120ms ping and 4bars.
It is more likely your tower is overloaded or you are connected using 1x instead of 3g. Stock Sprint software always displays 3G whether or not you are connected 3g. Although, with 120ms ping (1x would be slower ping), my thinking is you are connected 3g, just the tower is overloaded.

Please help, EVO 4G connectivity goes in and out after rooting

Hi guys,
Please help me out here:
After I rooted and unlocked NAND on my EVO by following the guides on this forum (part 1 and part 2), my 4g connectivity is totally unreliable.
The connection switches between 4g and 3g a couple of times a minute. Sometimes the EVO will have a full 4g signal and an ip address (according to the settings app), but when I open the browser it says that there is no network connection. Switching the phone to 3g fixes the connectivity issue.
I live on the 14th floor of a high-rise and had full 4g signal before rooting. I have tried the stock ROM as well as the Bugless Beast ROM and I get the same results.
Does rooting and unlocking NAND somehow mess with the 4g radio in the EVO, anyone have this issue in the past? Please help, I don't want to take this thing back to Sprint and go for the iPhone
Have you updated the radio? Go to settings and see if you baseband is 1.39.00.05.31
4G Radio
What is your current baseband at?
you should be at 1.39.00.05.31 or higher. If you look for the Fresh .2 Rom, they have the Radio zip. reboot into recovery and flash with the new Zip it will update your Baseband radio will be updated.
I had issues with 4G connectivity I updated my radio and I am all set.
-Joshonekenobi
Yes, I just updated to the latest baseband and it's still doing the same thing.
The phone shows full signal on 4g and all of the sudden switches to 3g and back to 4g again. This occurs several times a minute.
Is there some way I can flash it back to completely stock ROM?
Thanks,
Rayden1000
i'm rooted via unrevoked and my 4g is spotty. rooted or not. for me I think its 4g not set up yet. It is a work in progress. I'm in St. Louis. Speeds suck as well.

I am in Baltimore, the first 4G market. I really don't think it has to do with coverage....before rooting (and even after rooting, when on 4G), I get about 3.6 down and 1 up (upload is capped at 1 by Sprint).
I also live in a high rise that's half a mile from Clearwire's 4G tower........my issue is that after rooting, the EVO is not locking to 4g, it keeps switching back and forth between 3g and 4g.

Same issue here... Try this: go to settings and disable mobile networks (i.e. turn 3G off). When I do this, speed test works fine, but as soon as I try to do something real it disconnects and says there is no connection, even if it had a strong signal... not terribly useful!

L_Mo,
Were you having this issue before rooting (I am just assuming that you did root)? I swear that I did not have this issue before doing the full root and Nand unlock. When I just had Unrevoked root, I was using my Evo as my internet connection for my laptops for a full week with no issues and as a result I disconnected my Comcast cable internet.
I am just at a loss here, if I can't get this fixed, I will have to either flash the phone back to stock or take it back to Sprint for an exchange.
Rayden1000
I had the same problem after rooting. I am having better luck with Flipz stock rooted rom. I am using Flipz ota 1.32.651.6 rooted rom with the 1.39.00.05.31 radio. I wiped cache and delvic before flashing.
If this doesn't work for you you can get the stock RUU and reflash to unrooted stock.

Unrevoked is a ***** root and couldn't possibly mess with your 4G, sorry to say!
And, to the rest of you, rooting would not mess with your signal at all unless you dropped your phone or some ****. Installing the newest radio would be my only recommendation. Or you can unroot it and try to exchange it for a different EVO.

I had the same issue. Reflashed the RUU and still had connection problems (good 4g signal, but use the internet and it drops and switches to 3g). Didn't have problems with my 4g data card though.
edit: I actually thought I messed something up myself before I even rooted. I was in a bad area and kept roaming even though I could get a weak Sprint signal so I switched it to Sprint only and I think I mightve messed with some other settings under that mobile network tab. What are the default settings?
So basically, something in the full rooting process (not the unrevoked one), f's up the baseband or access to the baseband? I am not an electronic engineer, but it's obvious that doing the full root messes up 4G.
Any senior members in the know have a fix for this? I already exchanged my Evo once because of several stuck pixels, it would look suspicious if I went back to the store again...

Don't take what I said as a definite Evo or root problem. I'm curious as to if it's a 4g here in Philly problem. When I first bought the 4g card it was great, but wasn't using it so I returned it. Bought it again 4 months later and I returned that one because the 4g was terrible. I'm thinking 4g where I'm at sucks and is getting worse with more and more people jumping on it. I was a 3g early adopter so I'm not worried yet.
edit: I'm gonna go down to an area that's known to have a good 4g signal after work and sit around and do some "testing".
Which market are you in? Sprint has been doing a ton of testing in markets that aren't officially live yet.
I don't think it has anything to do with the ROM.
If when you are connected to 4G you can access the internet, only suddenly 4G it drops for no reason and switch to 3G and then reconnects to 4G and goes on and on, below is the solution. if when you are connected to 4G you can not access the internet at all, the below wont fix it for you and it is probably a problem with your rom.
You will need your msl code to fix this, loop up in the forums to to obtain your msl code from Sprint:
hit ##DATA# > Edit mode.
Put in your msl code
Chose WIMAX
Scroll down to Wimax_Idle_Sleep
Change the value from 10 to 300.
Click menu, commit changes and restart the phone.
This fixed it for me and i never drop 4g (when in good coverage) again.
Basically Sprint has some STUPID setting that tells 4g to go into "sleep mode" of no data is passed on the 4g connection after 10 seconds which is essentially disconnecting 4g.
The problem is it goes into sleep mode (disconnecting), but then rescans and look for a 4G signal > reconnects to 4g and if no data will be passed in 10sec it will do the same again in an endless loop.
10sec to put a connection into sleep mode is really low so change it to 300sec.
The odd thing is that this is only happening in certain locations and with certain towers.
I tried to call Sprint and explain about this issue but my attempts fell on death ears.
Go ahead and try the above. if it helps you please someone make this a sticky as you are not the first i see having the issue.

I am in baltimore, the first 4G market.
I have to tend to agree that something in "Part 2" is messing up something with 4G. I've done Part 1 and successfully "upped" the radio with no 4G loss. Living in $G Vegas, I would get solid 2 bars inside my office. Once I did Part 2 and redid the phone, I would get "jumping" from 3G to 4G...
I still have to wonder, when flashing the new radio, why (after Part 2) it gets "stuck" in formatting cache and you get no "confirmation" of an upgrade. I am an AnooBroid...but this just doesn't seem right to me.

Useless 4g after I Odin'd to FI03.

I have a wierd issue with ics but ONLY after i odin'd to FI03. My 4g stopped working. I tried diff radios and sometimes I can get 50 KB/s download (and yes I update my prl and profile) but most of the time 4g doesnt even open web pages even though the two arrows in status bar show that connection is active. All I get is error that there is no active internet connection. Now ive been on diff ics roms before without a problem, but after FI03 no matter which ics base Im on 4g doesn't work. Funny thing is when i flash any gingerbread rom on 4g i still get 1MB/s download. Isnt it wierd? Any ideas how i can get back my regular speeds on ics?

ATT GS3 losing Data Network randomly

This is the Task650 and Ktoonsez AOKP. VERSION: d2att(4.1.2 JZ054K) from December 2nd release.
My data network goes in and out at random. It actually started happening about 4 days ago on an older build by Task650 & Ktoonsez but I saw the new one so wiped dalvik and Partition cache and rom'ed. Even after flashing the new ROM, data is acting the same way. It is completely random, happens when the phone is in use or when it is locked. I can tell when data connects for short spurts because I hear the notices for new emails. All in all today, I've maybe had 5 minutes of HSPA/3G data and the rest all I have is cellular network for calls. reception strong, and I am in areas where I always have good connection and speed.
Any ideas? Kind of frustrating if I am out to lunch and want to catch up on things (stuff is blocked at work). Also I am paying for data I can't use :/

I am admittedly new to flashing, I just assumed everything was in the package. I flash the ROM and Gapps, is there a source for different modems?
This is definite disconnect of data DHTP. Can't get anywhere, and there is no symbol where there usually is on the reception bar. When it comes back for brief moments, it has either HSPA, 3g, etc.... on the bar.
are you able to send and receive calls? text?
I flashed that rom three days ago, and i had to replace it via warranty. it showed it had signal, but couldnt make any calls or text at all. then i Odin back to stock never worked again.
Don't think it has to do with any rom. Noticed that my wife's sgs3 has had a problem sending and receiving texts and the network drops a lot as well. She is completely stock with the jelly Bean update. My network has been a little suspect over the last few days also. Might just be the service.

Hey Guys, I may have found the culprit...sort of.
The wife has an iP5 and she said to me while we are driving to a holiday party 'I finally have official 4G LTE on my phone'. To which I of course ask what she means. Apparently the same day I started not being able to connect to data networks, is actually the day that ATT fired up their 4G LTE tower(s) in the Lehigh Valley area. When I do get data on occasion, it's when I bump down to 3G and HSPA. Unfortunately, the ROM has a bug where I cannot force it to look for just 3G, I go to save the setting and it immediately jumps back to LTE.
I may just have to flash to a version that definitely supports 4G LTE data. This issue occurred before I flashed to newest ROM, so it has something to do with the core build or modem that both versions use.
Ngriffin, if you find any successful modems please let me know. I like the ROM but I can't go without a data connection much longer.
So, for those who care, I flashed Gapps and also Flashed a new modem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898) version UCLG1 and it's a no go. A few in my area said it worked great for them so now I am a bit discouraged. Northeast Pennsilvania Area.
Modem coverage map (submitted by XDA users) https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msi...ll=40.898982,-75.992002&spn=0.052809,0.111494
Versions tried:
LG1 -------------Did not work
LEM
LH9
LK3 -------------Works but only 3G data.
LH1
CLI5
More info, tested using the Wife's Ip5 and realized we don;t have LTE at our house, so I'll have to wait until we get withing range of the LTE tower(s) to see if it has an issue. However, I now have data reliably.

That's normal. LTE is data only and isn't used for phone calls.
I've been running Task's AOKP on my SGS II and III for a while with no data issues. Check your APN settings. If you're in an LTE area, you should be able to sit on the ATT LTE APN and have no problems, even away from LTE coverage.

To update further, LK3 modem worked for a short while, but once I left the area of my immediate cell tower and it had to connect to another tower, it couldn't. I flashed ALL modems in my list a post above and NONE work. I'm kind of pissed right now.
Any ideas? I'll probably to a full backup and then flash a completely different ROM and cross my fingers. Is there an official JB stock ROM sans the bloatware that is stable and can connect to LTE (or any data network reliably for that matter)?
It was my APN *facepalm* Thanks for the suggestion. It was sitting on wap.cingular instead of the LTE and it was causing the issue. I'm on modem CLH1 and it is working, I have the 4G (3G) symbol now and data is connecting. Well, I learned something thanks! :victory:

I started having issues with mine about the same time. I haven't been able to figure it out yet. I had just gone to JB and flashed a new ROM. Then started noticing not just data being very spotty but also my calls (both incoming and outgoing) were very spotty too. Both seemed to only work about 50% of the time. I have since completely wiped and factory reset twice. I even Odin'ed back to a stock Rout66 jelly bean system but I still have issues
I have updated my APN to ATT PTA but that hasn't helped. What APN settings did you go with? Is ther some specific for LTE coverage? On the stock system now I can actually see the LTE icon when it actually chooses to connect.
Also, where did you find other modems. I was told in another forum not to flash any that weren't specific to Jelly Bean and all I have found is the stock I747UCDLK3 which is already on my phone. I did try flashing that seperately just to see if that would help but did not.
I need to get my phone working pronto as it is my main phone for both business and personal phone calls. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When you're on stock, only thing you can do is check with your carrier and they'll either tell you that it's something on their end being worked on or that your SIM card is faulty.
This happens to me on tasks AOKP ROM at least once per day, but it usually only happens when I turn on LTE. Basically what happens is the phone has cellular service but no data, after a few minutes it comes back. What I have noticed is that its to do with LTE so maybe there's a problem with that?

Task's AOKP doesn't set the default APN to LTE for Rogers so you might wanna make sure it's your default APN.

Loss of 3g and 4g data (mobile network state disconnected)

I have been having some serious issues with data ever since rooting and flashing custom ROM on my Galaxy SII which is on Boost Mobile. When i first got the phone before i did anything to it, i was getting pretty good 4g and 3g speeds. After rooting i noticed that my 4g and 3g speeds had dropped significantly. I called boost they said there is some work being done in my area, which i think was crap. I was running baked ROM 4.2.1 JB and it ran nicely but i had no 4g connection by this point and had only 3g connection but VERY slow. I thought to restore my saved backup of rooted stock and maybe my speeds will come back. NOPE 4g still doesnt work at all and NOW 3g doesn't work either. I've checked APNS it seems to be correct, but my connection status is still "mobile network state disconnected" . Oh, also i've tried flashing different modems and kernel repacks cause i know using custom stuff can bork ur 4g.
Can someone help please?

Right now i am on Stock Rooted, Using modem FI27. Before i was using baked ROM as my daily driver on FL24 Modem, thats when i noticed 4g had gone completely. I am using AGATs kernel FI27 repack. Its strange though my baseband says Fi27 but build number says FL24 on the end. Should it be that way?
oh btw my 3G came back, it just took forever to connect. But my 4g still wont work, it connects to the network but it still says "mobile network state disconnected".

Can't update profile

I've odin'd back to FC09 stock so many times and every time I try to update profile the 3G signal drops and then its only the phone signal bars and then I either get "Unknown error" "Connection Error" or something and I was told since everyone else in my house gets 4G and since my signal strength should be good enough to connect that that may help fix my 4G problem of "Authentication Failed". Anyone know why I can't update the profile or why this keeps occuring? Or should I odin back to an earlier build of stock for the epic and see if that works?

Since you're back on stock, just press *2 on your dialer and talk to customer service.
